Reviews for Hotel Caravelas
Review 1:We chose the hotel because of the 24h reception as we arrived late from the Sao Jorge by ferry. The hotel's location is good. All in all, a normal boring hotel.
Review 2:There is room for improvement for the breakfast and some renovation would be welcome in the coming years...
Review 3:The room was comfortable and spacious, very practically furbished (spacious closets, etc.).
Review 4:No wifi in rooms Pool water got green after one day of raining
Review 5:- Great location, very convenient if arriving by boat, short walking to everything. - Very helpful staff, much more informative and useful than tourist information. Gave us great tips on where to go. - Comfy bed - Bath - Beautiful pool area - Good breakfast with local cheese and local fruits - Everything clean and tidy
Review 6:Nothing remarkable
Review 7:It is a great hotel to visit Pico. Close to the Ferry harbour and near to restaurants and rest of the attractions. Swimming pool is great for having rest after climbing Pico.
Review 8:Avoid room Nos. 35x-36x (IIRC), which we got first but asked for a change and got a nicer view. No restaurant on property, there's a slow-food (quite sloooow) place next door (if you exit to the east, to the street facing the mountain, not the port) but they mixed up our orders and then blamed it on us.
Review 9:Not sleeping the first night due to the heat. On arrival I was given a southwest-facing room with a great view, but the A/C didn't work (which the staff admitted they were aware of). I was moved to a smaller, cooler room the other side of the hotel, and though the room was fine, re-packing and moving everything was a hassle. I could have used some assistance but it wasn't offered.
Review 10:The location, right by the harbour and ferry terminal, was great as I arrived in the evening and didn't collect my hire car until the next morning. The hotel is right in the village (where there was a colourful 'festa' the day I arrived) with plenty of parking. Finally, breakfast was excellent, and when I had to leave early to catch the ferry they were happy for me to take some food along with me.
Review 11:We were asked to pay all in advance. This doesn't usually happen and shows no trust in the customer. These is no internet in the rooms, only cable internet, so you need laptop and even that is so slow or often non existing, you need not bothet.
Review 12:For the price we payed the hotel offers a lot. The breakfast is plentiful, the parking in front is easy to use.
Review 13:Unfortunately wifi not available in the room. The sink didn't hold the water when i wanted to take a bath. The balconys knob/handle was completely broken and has to be repaired
Review 14:Very nice located hotel with rich breakfast buffet, free wifi and really comfortable rooms.I think I got an upgrade from single to doubleroom with view on the ocean. I got a free shuttle service from the hotel to the airport, that was very generous!
Review 15:Had an unpleasant experience when checking in with the young lady on Reception, but thereafter other staff very polite. A kettle in the room would have been nice
Review 16:Rooms very comfortable and excellent breakfast with fresh produce, ferry port just opposite hotel
Review 17:The hotel is pretty pricy, considering whats on offer. Wifi is available only in lobby, not in the rooms. Hotel is U shaped, so your view are balconies opposite. Sauna cost 50 euro per hour, that's really a lot. I guess is better to stay in Horta and commute to Pico on frequent ferry.
Review 18:It appears this is the only proper hotel on the Pico island. Hotel is situated right opposite ferry port, you can not miss it. Room is good, standard 4 star size. Everything in the room seams to be new, perhaps the hotel is new as well. Bed is very comfortable and staff very nice. At the reception you can get information what to do, timetables and further information. Breakfast was good too.
Review 19:Impersonal service from reception staff. They definitely play their role in making it feel like a very big hotel. Boring breakfast buffet, exactly the same every day. Lack of good coffee.
Review 20:Nice, fresh, spacious room with big, comfortable bed. Good air conditioning system.
Review 21:Room has no style.
Review 22:Staff, location, fruits in my room.
Review 23:Breakfast buffet was poor.
Review 24:Comfortable room with balcony. Good bathroom.
Review 25:no wifi in the rooms,
Review 26:rooms are ok
Review 27:No wifi in the room
Review 28:Excellent hotel! We liked almost everything :-)
Review 29:A.c didnt work for there days! Wifi worked only in the lobby.
Review 30:The foud was good THE LOCATIN IS GREAT
Review 31:I found it very expensive for the spa and think the gym should not have a charge.
Review 32:great breakfast, friendly staff and efficient.
Review 33:The Coffee was very bad.
Review 34:Clean good lokation , close tot the harbour. Very good bed, breakfast : excellente.
Review 35:staff not really enthusiastic, breakfast refilling slow, no wifi at all
Review 36:great location, fruit basket, very clean
Review 37:Very near from the port and center of the town.
Review 38:Staff wasn´t very helpful.
Review 39:Nice and very clean room, welcome gift, excellent breakfest
Review 40:Great location, friendly staff, cheap food, easy for vegetarians, amazing wildlife, two minutes walk to whale watching, diving etc
Review 41:Wifi not working in rooms Sauna access not free
Review 42:The hotel is located next to the ferry terminal, really handy to go to Faial for a day...and in center of Madalena Nice swimming pool outdoor
Review 43:No negatives
Review 44:Hotel that is easy to reach from the Faial ferry. Staff was very kind and helpful. A complimentary gift of fruit was an unexpected pleasure. Furthermore, the lady of the reception desk really knew what 'making someone welcome' means, my unreserved compliments!
Review 45:I liked the comfort, efficiency, breakfast, location near the center of Madalena, Pico volcano and ferry to Horta and the staff. Aleixandre who works in the evening was especially helpful. Usually, large, resort-like hotels are sterile. This one was the opposite.
Review 46:Breakfast is average and the coffee in the espresso machine is terrible.
Review 47:rooms nice atmosphere if you get a view over the harbour. Many rooms simply face inwards over the parking. There was a fruit basket in the room, which was very nice.
Review 48:Works @ harbour, but not too much noise. OK for 1 or 2 nights.
Review 49:Madalena + Lajes are the only places on the island with a few restaurants and bars, OK for spending a few nights. Drive around the beautiful island, go hiking, visit the wine museum, lava vineyards, ...
Review 50:No Wi-Fi connection in a room, when we were there it was a harbor reconstruction just in front of the hotel, so it was a little bit noisy and a view was spoiled
Review 51:Good breakfast, spacious room, very convenient location for the further trip to Pico (hotel is located next to the ferry station)
Review 52:The breakfast is again basic plenty to choose from perfectly average.
Review 53:The hotel is basically modern, clean, and mainly a base for the mature walkers which suited us fine. No evening meals a small bar service and no entertainment was to our liking.
Review 54:The staff was absolutely below par for a 4-star hotel. Reception staffmade a mistake when checking us in and then behaved rudely and treatedus as if it were our fault. Breakfast staff was not able to keep up withthe guest turnaraound, so we had to wait for a clean table, for coffee, for bread, whatever.
Review 55:The location is great. The facilities are good, modern, comfortable, maybe a bit out of context in the Azores but still.
Review 56:good breakfast, close to harbour, very clean and modern, and have hairdresser and beautician salons, close to restaurants,. Our room had a balcony facing the sea- it was worth it
Review 57:We didn't like the colors and material used in the decoration of the hotel, it looked al a bit old and dirty because of it. The sheets on the mattres contains plastic, which makes you lay in your own sweat. The cleaning ladies were present on our floor most of the time, which made us kind of nervous when we were relaxing in our room during the day. The town doesn't have many restaurants, let alone nice restaurants.
Review 58:Friendly staff, nice location in town
Review 59:Unfortunately, the area across from the hotel is under majorconstruction and the noise was fairly constant. Not something the hotelcan control but perhaps they could provide ear plus to guests orsomething similar to make up for it.Our major issue was that the hotel has a very musty, mouldy smell. My partner developed sinus issues while we stayed there which lead us to believe that there was likely a mould problem in the walls. I would not recommend staying for a long period of time or at all if you are sensitive to mould/mildew. There was no wifi available.
Review 60:Staff were helpful and there were lots of options at breakfast. Poolarea was well taken care of.
Review 61:This may just be us, but we don't like being asked to pay the minutewe arrive at a hotel! This was the only place in the Azores wherethis happened. The hotel is a big one, clearly catering for largegroups. We wouldn't have chosen it for a longer stay, but it was finefor our purposes.
Review 62:The location was fantastic for us, just off the ferry in the middle ofa terrific storm, it only took us a few moments to get to the hotel. It's in the centre of the town and close to restaurants. The room was agood size and comfortable. There was a wide choice for breakfast. Itwas a bit hectic in the breakfast room due to the large groups, butnothing ran out.
Review 63:Breakfast, atmosphere of hotel lobby, A/C in the room
Review 64:The room, location
Review 65:Wifi non available in the room.
Review 66:Location useful if you do not have a car. Right in front of the ferry harbor. Breakfast
Review 67:Ugly building.
Review 68:Good breakfast.
Review 69:Very nice room. Great breakfast.
Review 70:Clean and nice hotel. Very friendly staff.
Review 71:Room cleanness was not very good. It is a bit pricy.
Review 72:Location is superb. It is in the city center and the port is across the street.
Review 73:The hotel is well-located, right next to the ferry port. The breakfast is very good with lots of choice. The staff are helpful.
Review 74:Prices too high. Not booking.com worth!
Review 75:Situation... Staff .... Cleaness
Review 76:Very expensive internet, sauna, towel for pool
Review 77:Located in Madelena
Review 78:The location is excellent. Nice breakfast. Friendly staff.
