Reviews for Clonmara Cottages
Review 1:Clonmara Cottages is in two locations. One is Clonmara Garden Cottages in the same location as the café and the other is down the road a bit. When booking through Booking.com it was unclear which location you're booking. On the Clonmara website it states all cottages have air conditioning and on Booking.com there is no mention of it so it was unclear if there was or wasn't aircon. The owner didn't return my call when I attempted to find out prior to booking The owner wasn't at all helpful on the occasions we talked to him. The kitchen utensils are old and falling apart. There was one small plastic salad bowl only. There wasn't a good sharp knife to be found. Suggest you take your own.
Review 2:The cottage was clean and comfortable. There are condiments for use and a few free additions such as milk and some complimentary biscuits.
Review 3:Booked late the night before travelling and the rete dropped $20 later in the day before or just after we arrived. If you are ordering breakfast, hand it in rather than leave in the breakfast box as they don't always check it at the end of the day. We did have it in in plenty of time, they just forget to check it.
Review 4:Rooms very nicely laid out, view out the back very rural, great setting, however the bed not that comfortable
Review 5:not at all a bad experience but bed and sofa just a little bit lumpy.
Review 6:privacy. the bathroom was amazing great look and feel. very clean. added treats like a xmas pressie and card for us, a really nice touch.
Review 7:Excellent and peaceful location. Beautiful cottage and well appointed. We even took a picture of it. Slept very well. We arrived later than expected but the proprietor took great effort to get the key delivered to us.
Review 8:not a bad experience but breakfast started late, would not suit travelers wanting to move on early
Review 9:Location Friendly and very helpful staff Very good spacious rooms
Review 10:Nice garden settings, peaceful and location was ok. We went non tourist season which was even better. Population 2 thousand during tourist season population 12 thousand.
Review 11:The noise from the trucks passing on the main road beside the cottage was unbearable. We moved out after the first night and didn't stay the second night, even though we'd paid.
Review 12:Charge for wi-fi. Travellers appreciate access to wi-fi and offering this service without charge would be a welcome plus.
Review 13:Location a little out of town so a fairly long walk but a quick drive. Beautiful setting and garden, peaceful and lovely. Comfortable bed, practical bathroom, effective heating and fan, all necessary comforts. Helpful owners - good local information. Complimentary port and chocolates were enjoyed!
Review 14:Our little cottage was so homely & we had our own garden very private & beautiful. We were welcomed to our cottage by the most friendly Doug who was happy to help with any thing we needed. Also great advise for what to see in the area & where best to eat.
Review 15:Nothing
Review 16:We arrived in a cold snap but were soon cosy with the little stove glowing in the sitting area. The cottage was very well equipped and comfortable.
Review 17:It would have been nice if the breakfast was included in the price of the room.
Review 18:The cottage and grounds were absolutely beautiful. The bed was very comfortable and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay.
Review 19:showering in the spa was a little daunting as we had to climb in bit rough for old legs
Review 20:We were there on our 50th anniversary they really did make us feel welcome would stay there again
Review 21:The bed was a little uncomfortable, possibly due to personal life preference.
Review 22:Lovely location and beautifully appointed cottage. Very thankful that the log fire was going on arrival. Complimentary chocolate and port was a hit!
Review 23:Beautiful !! Loved the Aplacas that were outside our bedroom window... Warm and Cosy Heating on before we arrived.. Lots of added extras very pleasant owner !!
Review 24:Fabulous setup in cottage Great gardens, easy to find and the extra little touches that we're classy. The port, chocolates and appointments with the spa
Review 25:Our welcome to the property was fantastic with lots of advice of things to do in the area, places to eat and how to get around. The recommendation for food and drinks at Coffin Sallys was amazing and the cottage was a lovely way to finish our trip of the GOR.
Review 26:Very warm welcome on arrival. Cottage cosy warm and clean~ loved the little teddy bear and the friendly Alpacas! We were able to hire bikes from Big 4 park and loved exploring the town from the cottages central location.
Review 27:This accommodation is one of the best I've stayed at. Run by a lovely couple who you can tell are passionate about what they do and care about their guests. A nice tranquil place, great for relaxation.
Review 28:Shame about not getting the full breakfast as the chef / owner was sick for some cereal & toast - could have also discounted the room! Had to step into the bath to shower in the spa cottage which we did not like.
Review 29:Nice and quiet, very relaxing looking at the llamas :). The cottage was comfortable and quaint:)
Review 30:Air conditioner set to Auto and came on at 3am. Took 5 minutes to find the controller then another two episodes to stop it. Quite difficult to get in and out of shower as over spa. Nowhere to put down two big wash bags in bathroom. Had to wipe down balcony table, chairs.
Review 31:Stayed in a small cottage with lovely view out back. The vaulted ceiling
Review 32:Nothing.
Review 33:The beautiful 'cottage' and styling. Just right for Port Fairy - both are quite magical. The huge spa bath - definitely big enough for two and a real treat. And because the tea room on site is temporarily closed the complimentary breakfast tray was very much appreciated. The owner is a lovely warm and helpful host and we enjoyed our time with her. We loved this place and can highly recommend
Review 34:If we had been staying longer than one night, the kitchen could have been a bit small. The cottages are located on the main road so the ones closest to the road may be a bit noisy. We stayed in cottage 3 and had a good sleep.
Review 35:Due to a family health crisis, the tea house was not open so we were offered complimentary breakfast, wifi and chocolates and port. In the bathroom there were loads samples of body lotions, bath salts etc that were normally available for purchase. Bed very comfortable and cottage very nicely furnished. Extremely large bathroom.
Review 36:The cottage is in a little garden with fruit trees and flowers, beautiful. We were welcomed warmly. It is in a very quiet spot. There was a small bottle of port with chocolates on the mantle shelf , milk in the fridge and tea, coffee provided.
Review 37:Sad that we couldnt enjoy the tea rooms as Doug was unwell, we will be back another time to enjoy this feature. We wish Doug a very speedy recovery.
Review 38:loved the warm friendly greeting from Doug, who toured our cottage, he genuinely cares about his business.
Review 39:Comfy bed, brilliantly clean, high quality furnishings and even got an upgrade as owner was away at time of check in. Lovely quiet location but easy to find. We loved it.
Review 40:The shower over the bath in Arrondoon was a nightmare. The bath too narrow and close to the wall, the shower tap placed to hit you in the ribs and the shower curtain had nowhere to go but wrap itself around the body. Ditch the bath and put in a stand alone shower. The bedlinens were clean and fresh however the doona and quilt were both musty and the yellow curtains in the bedroom just smelled nasty. There were three taps over the kitchen sink but as we saw no staff whatsoever during our stay we don't know whether there was town water and tank water or what the third tap was for.
Review 41:Loved that we could wander over to tearoom and have breakfast, lunch or just afternoon tea. Was made to feel so welcome. Had the use of barbque whenever we wanted it. Nothing was too much trouble. Loved the Alpacas at our balcony ever morning and afternoon. We will definitely go back again.
Review 42:Breakfast served a little late for us early risers. However, this meant we drove to discover the delicious offerings at Rebecca's Cafe in the township.
Review 43:Attention to detail with furnishings and decor created a relaxed ambience. Homely, welcoming feel of the cottage. Glass of port in crystal glasses to enjoy at the end of the evening.
Review 44:After a nightmare of a journey which left us arriving three hours late (8pm), despite ringing as soon as we were in phone range we were greeted with "I wish you had rung earlier, I kept the staff on until 6.30." Staff, what staff.? The place is advertised as a touch of Britain (England?) including the Basil Fawlty greeting.
Review 45:The atmosphere since you step in the garden of the Cherry Plums cottages is beautiful, a hidden gem in blossom. Service is great and the cottage was simply perfect.
Review 46:Highway noise at night but that's life.
Review 47:Very welcoming hosts. Lots of space in well appointed and maintained individual cottages. Ours had a private garden. Lots of nice personal touches which made us feel special. Excellent breakfasts. We would recommend highly.
Review 48:Excellent helpful staff with great suggestions for eating out and things to do Cottage had wonderful olde world charm in a peaceful setting close to town
Review 49:I am finding it hard to think of anything. Apart from the weather which was overcast. But I guess even our hosts could not have done much about that.
Review 50:From arrival we made to feel welcome. Our host were very knowledgeable of where to eat in Port Fairy, and made a range of suggestions from cheap to a little more expensive. Breakfast was absolutely awesome, and the pot of tea was just right.
Review 51:No Foxtel limited cooking facilities
Review 52:Doug was most hospital meals excellent, loved his garden and vegetables and enjoyed the AlPaca's in the paddocks .
Review 53:No negatives.
Review 54:Very welcoming and helpful owners. A gorgeous cottage with wonderful amenities and services. The tea room is lovely with delicious food. Would have loved to have stayed longer and will definitely stay here if we return to port fairy in the future!
Review 55:The warm welcome you receive when you arrive is lovely and some local information is very useful. The information book within the room is very helpful to allow you to plan your days and evenings. The cottages are perfectly situated for privacy and the facilities are nicely laid out within each area and I loved having the gas fire in the lounge area, the bathroom is great in size and the spa bath is a definate luxury. The cottage was clean and crisp, with attention to many of the small details some places forget. The cat, dog, chickens and alpacas add a homely touch to the place. Unfortunately we didn't get chance to try the tearooms but that was our fault as they are closed Monday and Tuesday :-( I would have liked a litte hoptplate or combo oven but that is a personal preference not a fault with the cottages. Nicely located within a short walk or drive from the centre, we would definately recommend a stay here.
Review 56:A minor point but the cafe that is part of the operation does not open for breakfast until 10am
Review 57:Self-contained cottage with atmosphere' friendly owners.
Review 58:Didn't actually see any staff, but was likely due to us staying mid week and arriving late in the afternoon. Some road noise from nearby highway but not too bad.
Review 59:Great rooms, nice location, port and chocolates was a nice touch
Review 60:We didn't have the chance to stay long enough to enjoy the place fully !
Review 61:The kindness of the hosts and all the attention to details put in the setup of the appartment.
Review 62:There was nothing to not like!
Review 63:Upon our arrival Doug was very welcoming and friendly. We were upgraded and offered free wifi and a late checkout to suit my business meeting the following day! We had an awesome stay and look forward to returning soon! Can't not mention the rasta dog, coolest little guy about!
Review 64:Although the cottages are self-contained, the kitchen facilities in the cottages are limited to a microwave, so guests cannot self cater.
Review 65:Cottage style accommodation and lovely english garden setting, with views of paddocks and alpacas from studio cottage verandah.
Review 66:It's a bit a walk (or short drive..) to the centre. But Port Fairy has lovely places to eat. Unfortunately the tea room was closed on Monday and Tuesday, the days we were in Port Fairy.
Review 67:We stayed in Cherry Plum Cottage. Very private and cosy place. Had everything we needed. Having a drink and a book in the garden at the end of the day was very relaxed.
Review 68:The fact we were only there 2 nights; could have stayed 2 weeks! The off street car park could have been bigger. A bit squeezy with all big cars, but hey I'm scraping the bottom of the barrel to find something wrong!
Review 69:A lovely, quiet country cottage setting, just right for a relaxing getaway. Apartments 3 & 4 were joined but there was no noise travel & they were still private. The cooked breakfast in the tearoom courtyard was oh so yummy, we had it both days, and didn't need lunch. Good coffee too!
Review 70:The bed. Too small for tall man. the lack of window covering in the shower and toilet that looked out over the car parking area.
Review 71:liked the garden and the decore of the lodging. The proximatey to the main shopping area. the outdoor eating area at the Clonmara cottages. the Privacy of the lodgings. The friendly staff. The good hearty breakfast. We will go there again and so will our friends who found the whole experience lovely.
Review 72:We didn't stay longer :)
Review 73:The instantaneous comfortable feel that you experience the moment you arrive! Also, food recommendations were awesome as well!
Review 74:Booked via Booking.com and did not include breakfast, even though advertised as "B&B". Our cottage was very close to the main highway, and there was a lot of traffic noise all night.
Review 75:Well appointed and comfortable. Friendly hosts, but made it clear they weren't impressed that we arrived after the "6.30pm" usual check in limit.
Review 76:Note that you cannot check in later than 18:30, other than that, nothing I didn't like about it.
Review 77:Very accommodating host; comfortable bed; TV; iPhone dock; and complimentary wifi, port wine and breakfast.
Review 78:We loved our stay here so relaxing and great hospitality had everything we needed! We would Definitly stay here again and recommend anyone to do the same...loved it!!
Review 79:Great cottages set in a wonderful landscaped gardens. Had a great welcome by Sam the dog! Doug was fantastic and welcoming, told us about what walks to do around town, and where the best places to eat were. Unfortunately the tea house was closed but had a lovely breakfast (complimentary Euro fare) and complimentary port, which was fantastic sipping in front of the fire after dinner! Highly recommend staying here.
Review 80:The weather, but you can't do anything about that!
Review 81:Comfortable bed, warm and very comfortable. The nice litle touches like the teddy bear and bath salts, and particularly the fresh coffee and port and chocolates.
Review 82:We liked the personal touch of food in the fridge and port and chocolate every night. The owner is friendly and very helpful. The garden setting is great.
Review 83:The bed was way too soft ended up sleeping on the floor. Was ok for one person but with two in the bed too much partner disturbance and
