Reviews for Karelia Alpine Lodge

Review 1:Returned from a day at the snow to have no hot water. The last thing you want after spending a day on the slopes, is a cold shower. Bumped into the owner (after my cold shower), who said he forgot to turn it on. Single bed room was tiny. I'm only 178cm tall, and the bed was too short for me.

Review 2:Overall, lots of character in the lodge. It has that european feel to it.

Review 3:A bit pricey.

Review 4:Perfect location close to chairlift and ski hire a warm and comfortable place to stay. Lodge had a homely feel about it. Breakfasts were great.

Review 5:Room and bathroom was tiny, hot and stuffy and you couldn't move at all, could barely walk around in it and couldn't even dry yourself in the bathroom without banging into something. Could hear everything, didn't sleep at all for the creaking floorboards and downstairs noise. I'm not one to be overly critical of a place but this was probably the worst sleep I've ever had in a motel. One tiny flat pillow didn't help either...

Review 6:Not much. Breakfast was ok.

Review 7:The 2 bedrm apartment isn't actually in Karelia, it's about 100 metres away. That would be handy to know before you & 12 pieces of luggage are delivered to Karelia. It's up three short flights of stairs which may be a problem for some. No sink in the separate toilet.

Review 8:Two bedrooms, one with two bunk beds. Very snug with great heating. Well equipped kitchen and comfortable dining area and sofas. TV in every room. Really well priced for great value.

Review 9:No hot water during our first night. Small bathroom/toilet. Spa is outdoor - can't really use during the winter.

Review 10:Common lounge with fireplace using real firewood. Staff helpful and friendly. Original booking of apartment unit not available. Offered 2 rooms in the lodge inclusive of breakfast.

Review 11:I could only pick up WIFI in the common hall area and not my room. I did not discuss this with the owner and he is such a great guy that I am sure he would of done something to help out. It was not not really an issue for me but may be for others.

Review 12:Nice homely ambiance. Staff were nice without exception. Each day in the lounge there was always nice snacks available to have with a hot cuppa.

Review 13:there was nothing to dislike about karelia. the owner jerry and his staff were excellent. the food was 5 star. i don't know what else to say other than this has to be one of the best lodges on the mountain.

Review 14:Totally disagree that this is a 4 star boutique (alpine) resort. I paid $1200 for 2 nights for a deluxe room which was far from average. Room 1. I would have liked in the morning to open to curtains and see natural light but instead all I could see was a veranda full of wood fire logs and old papers. The room needed artificial light at all times. The bathroom was the smallest one I came across in all my holidays on land. The outside jacuzzi water did not look clean. I hope that for other customers sake this property should not be listed as 4 star, not even in alpine rating, it would be very hard to give a 3 let alone a 4. The Falls Creek transport after 2000 was a let down and we acknowledge that is not Karelia lodge fault. However I was surprised that even we called booking.com around 1300 to inform of our arrival between 20-2100 no one let us know how we can go to the lodge as you can not drive there. We called the lodge manager Jerry several times for help with no answer despite being aware we should arrive late. After almost 2h of wondering around we reach the lodge by foot and talking to Jerry he was not very helpful and told us that booking .com should help us more as they take half of the money we paid. And the story goes on and on but I would stop here. After all of this at my suggestion Jerry agree with a late check out. we left 1300 not 1000 what "a bonus"?!. Again what is advertising on website about Karelia is far from reality and definitely not value for money

Review 15:Sauna. However the time for use was 1500-1900 but usually a day at ski finishes 1630-1700 leaving not much time especially when dinner is 1830-2000. being an outside sauna could go a bit longer than 1900. I also appreciated that the drying room was spacious

Review 16:room far too small

Review 17:Friendly and excellent service. European settings and memorabilia.

Review 18:unable to access wifi, poor connection

Review 19:relaxing, cosy
