Reviews for Tokyo Plaza Hotel
Review 1:charge for baggage keeping but no keeping room.
Review 2:good location and surrounding with many restaurants and convenient stores. Staff was very helpful and friendly.
Review 3:Hotel is actually on second floor and no elevator.
Review 4:Short walking distance to two train stations Shin Okubo and Okubo station which basically takes you to all areas of Tokyo. Breakfast there is affordable and great. Staff speak English and are helpful and polite. For the budget minded this place is excellent. I would stay again.
Review 5:Refridgerator wasn't working. The morning receptionist at that time seemed new at the job making her unable to give us a good suggestion. No slope from lobby to the ground floor making it hard to carry down luggages.
Review 6:Location is great. Worth the money.
Review 7:Bathroom was incredibly small, very overdue for an update. Stairs to lobby aren't conducive to large suitcases.
Review 8:Friendly staff, spoke good English and very helpful Price was good by Tokyo standards Good dining options
Review 9:Only small complaint was very early housekeeping which made me wake up a few times. Would stay here again.
Review 10:Good value hotel. Room was decently sized for Japan. Wifi really fast, 1-2 minutes walk to Shin Okubo station on the Yamanote line so convenient location for getting around. Staff were friendly and helpful. Didn't book breakfast as lots of shops and restaurants around to get food from so can't comment on that. There's also a coin laundry and post office within 5 minutes walk.
Review 11:The window does not open, so the room can be stuffy.
Review 12:The hotel is located close to JR Yamamote Line and there were a lot of restaurants in the area. There is also a grocery store next door to the hotel.
Review 13:A bit inconvenient that the lobby is on second floor, have to walk up the staircase with luggage.
Review 14:Prime location, half block to JR station, plenty of dining choices on the street in early morning or late night.
Review 15:The rooms are overdue for a renovation and showing their age. The breakfast was an unvaried egg, sausage, bacon and toast.
Review 16:Location was ideal, with stations on two major train lines nearby and Shinjuku Station just one stop away.
Review 17:The room size is super small , big size og lugguage is difficult to fit in.
Review 18:The most strength odf this place is locations. There are a lot of food stores and convinient stores near by. It is near JR shin-okubo and JR Okubo (2 minute walk). Amenities in bathroom is completed provided including toothbrush, comb. Good quality of shampoo, conditioner and body wash.
Review 19:Nothing really. I had low expectations due the great price, but everything was absolutely fine.
Review 20:Great location near Shinokubo station. Staff were friendly and helpful.
Review 21:Check-out time is 10 am - fine, but of course there will be lots of travelers who have needs to store the luggage for a few hours, which in all the hotels and hostels I stayed offer as a free service. This hotel, on one hand requests 10 am check-out and on the other hand only offers free storage till 3 pm. After that the charge is 1,000 JPY per hour! Their argument is they have small space in the lobby (which by the way I wouldn't call a lobby). But I've come across many hotels in land-constraint cities and none of the hotels there has such unreasonable rule. The most RIDICULOUS part is they allow customers' luggage arriving one day earlier to store OVERNIGHT FOR FREE!! You also have to carry on your luggage through some steep staircases before reaching the lobby and the lift. Don't expect anyone to come down to help you. I've stayed in bunk beds hostels that have better services.
Review 22:there's NOTHING I'm happy with this hotel.
Review 23:The hotel was very comfortable and had heaps of facilities in close proximity. Staff were lovely and the yummy breakfast was a great way to start the day.
Review 24:The only difficulty would be the stairs to the reception area, but the staff are only too happy to carry your luggage up the stairs so that really wasn't a problem
Review 25:Very friendly staff, nothing was too much trouble. The breakfast was a delight, an open scenario with views of the outside activity, egg, bacon, toast and a surprisingly tasty green salad, coffee tea etc. The staff were very helpful even though their English was limited. We will certainly stay here next time we come back to Japan. Great locality for a real Japan experience, handy to transport and great wifi
Review 26:Staff were not hospitable, very rude as if theyre not working in the hospitality industry. Rooms were smelly and dirty, bathroom was miniscule. Amenities such as towels seems dirty, not well laundered. Aircon is not working well, as complained, we were not entertained nor asked someone to go up the room and check. Front desk just replied for us to read the instructions properly or was questioning if we knew how to operate. Asked for extra pillows, none as allocation was just 1 per person. It was noisy and there was no adequate soundproofing. All three rooms had fixed tainted glass, thus, no window for good ventillation but just a doggy hole underneath. The slippers provided were not the disposable type so mot hygienic while used mugs and glasses were not washed even if you ask for a make-up room. Worst hotel ever. One deserves a break while on vacation. Our Japan trip was memorable except for this hotel. Dont stay, this hotel sucks!
Review 27:Just the location, nothing more.
Review 28:- Wish this hotel has a lift or escalator to lobby as we had to carry our luggage ourselves. But that was not a major issue.
Review 29:- Near from two train station. - F&B outlets and mini marts available 24hours nearby. - Friendly and helpful staff.
Review 30:The hotel is quite old and the lobby hotel is in the 2nd floor. To access the lobby you need to take the stairs as no elevator or escalato. It is difficult for those who bring big luggage
Review 31:No lifts or escalators from ground floor to reception area. The room we stayed in was great for two people, was a bit a tight squeeze at times. Bathroom was small too but its seems to be norm in Japan.
Review 32:Great location, surrounded Japanese and Korean Cuisine. Two minute walk from Shinokubu station which is only a few stops from Harajuku, Shinjuku and Shibuya Station on the Yamanote Line. Overall I would recommend this hotel for budget conscious people. The staff were very helpful and approachable, shout out to Jimmy for Excellent customer service. Would we stay here again? Yes :-) I would rate this hotel an 8/10
Review 33:We were not able to use the TV. Not sure if it works. Would have been helpful if hotel can change USD to Yen though.
Review 34:We like that the hotel is very accessible to Shin-Okubo JR station, 711, tax free store, and a couple of local restaurants. Staff are very friendly and nice. We like Kang a lot. She's very friendly. They are responsive to our needs. Even offered us umbrella when it snowed. Wifi is strong as well. Value for money. We will definitely stay here again if we decide to return. Thanks!
Review 35:Stairs to hotel lobby. Difficult to carry big luggage climbing stairs up to lobby. Suggestions...hotel should offer help in carrying.
Review 36:Near train station and food shops.
Review 37:The staff was very friendly, especially the lady who helped us book a shuttle from incheon airport to our hotel in Korea the next day. Hotel is located next to many food places to go to and is centrally located.
Review 38:It met all our needs, just a bit small for family of 4 but we expected that in Tokyo.
Review 39:Staff Close to transport - we had no problems getting around once we worked out the subway etc. Breakfast staff very friendly. Although small, good little find , good value.
Review 40:we stayed on jan, the room is a little bit cold, i thought it was because a sliding window which can not close properly.
Review 41:location. we can used our JRpass to reach the hotel.
Review 42:Room a tad too small. Would be more comfy if it's a little bigger. But considering it's in japan, it's still acceptable.
Review 43:the location is good with few minutes walk to the train station. Many shops along the street and many restaurants are open 24hrs. Would say it's really convenient and at a superb location.
Review 44:Check out is 10 am and they charge you 1000 yen to stay till 11. They do let you leave your luggage in the lobby though where they keep an eye on it. Only cooked food on premises us a small breakfast for 5000 yen...restaurant stops serving food at 10:30 am. Although there is a grocery store right beside the hotel. Other than those 2 small details, a great place.
Review 45:Right on the main train line for getting around Tokyo. Walk One Hundred Yards West after getting off at the North Exit of The Shin-Okubu station on the JR Yamanote Line (Green). This is only one stop away from the Shinjuko Station which is also where the Narita Express Train stops.
Review 46:There's no elevator from hotel entrance to the reception which is on the second floor. Pillow is not comfortable. Bathroom is very small.
Review 47:Excellent location. Just 3-5 minute walk from the train station. There are many restaurants and convenience stores around the hotel. The staff are friendly. There's free wifi at the room.
Review 48:Staff informed that their cleaner found out a few towel inside the room. This happen because we stay 1 night outside for skiing. But the way they informed to us, it seem we trying to hide and stealing the towel. (No value at all) Furthermore, they questioned us in front of our friend and other customer. It is totally wrong etiquette. Will never come back.
Review 49:Just for sleeping only.
Review 50:The stairs and they charge us for 15min late check out even i have handed in the keys to them on time. Very annoying it is.
Review 51:Plenty of restaurant around the corner
Review 52:The hotel is old. The flight of steps to the hotel lobby is steep and unfriendly. There is only one lift in the hotel - need to wait for a while if someone is checking out with huge luggage. The toilet is horrible - it is like an airplane toilet once you remove the bath tub.
Review 53:The location of the hotel is good - stops for two different lines - Yamanote and Chuo Sobu lines. Lots of eateries and convenient stores around hotel.
Review 54:advertised a lounge.. really wasn't a lounge, rather a very small smoking room with a vending machine and 4 chairs and barely any extraction
Review 55:location, staff, comfort of bed
Review 56:The stairs from the entrance to front desk... But the staffs willing to help carrying our bags & luggages
Review 57:Value for money, great service from the staffs.
Review 58:Only had 3 electrical outlets but we made it work.
Review 59:Great location and staff was helpful. Held concert tickets for me with no problem. Room was efficient and water pressure amazing. Would recommend!
Review 60:haha... of course it's the stairs we didn't like as we had to carry our luggage all the way up to the first floor before checking in at the counter... Anyway, it's is not really a big problem..
Review 61:The location is great and it is located in the Korean street where one can get his meals, either breakfast, lunch or dinner easily. Moreover, the hotel is very near to the train station .. which is very convenient. The staff is great and they even have a weighing scale which we borrowed to weigh our luggage before we checked in. I would surely recommend it to friends..
Review 62:bathroom stinks like a porta loo and is an add on to the room. beds are very hard pillows are terrible
Review 63:location staff friendly food available every where
Review 64:I can only write about room 305, because that’s the room I was assigned. It was a small room, but that’s not the problem; the furniture was justthrown in without any thought for who would be staying there. A squaretable from the restaurant served as a table, and each time I wanted topass I had to turn sideways and inch by - several times I smashed my hipwhen it was dark during the night. The windows didn’t open, the hotelentry rug is torn, dirty, and smelly. The staff are ok. I looked intosome of the ‘love rooms’ and they seem spacious and well thought out,but when I asked to be transferred to a better room they said nothing isavailable. So, it’s basically only a ‘love hotel’ now, and not a regular-hotel anymore. I wound not stay there again.
Review 65:It's a fairly good location, but not a single restaurant on thestreet has any vegetarian options - and it's a long street... Idid not eat in the hotel restaurant (only serves breakfast), so Ican't comment.
Review 66:Bathroom smells, it' s very small, the towells look ancient, you cannot watch anything on tv. The metro station near to this hotel has no escalators, it's difficult with the luggage
Review 67:Wi-fi good
Review 68:Wonderful city with friendly and helpful people. Excellent and reasonable shopping and dining areas. Attractions and tourist sites in Tokyo and surrounding areas are all easily accessible with public transportation. Beautiful temples and gardens. Safe and clean, including the air - unlike some other major cities in Asia outside of Japan.
Review 69:Location is perfect. Many shops and restaurant around. That is my thrid time to stay here. The reception staff are very cheerful and friendly. They are awesome!
Review 70:The location was excellent with only a 2 minute walk from the small shin okubo train station. With only one exit it was so easy to get out of the station (compared to the massive Shinjuku stn) and an easy 2 min walk to find the hotel. There were plenty of little restaurants to choose from, a 7/11 with an ATM to get cash, a 100 yen shop for anything, pharmacy etc. Great spot and the staff were extremely helpful and spoke good English. Thank you Jimmy :) I thought our room with a double and single was fine for my husband and I and our 15 yr old son. Yes the bathrooms are small and there is not much spare room in the room, but you are only sleeping there. Also, to the people they say you have to walk and carry your bags up a flight of stairs to reception... well get real... at the train stations you have to haul your bags up stairs but who complains about that??? A really good breakfast for 500 yen too. All in all a great convenient place to stay with easy access to all the main sights on the Yamanote train line which is covered by the JR rail pass to. Thanks for a great stay :)
Review 71:You have to walk up a long flight of stairs before you reach reception. Its absolute hell for those with heavy suitcases but a good work out I guess haha A bit cramped but so were all the hotels I stayed at
Review 72:Right in the middle of Shinjuku (Korea-town) Clean, nice hotel Friendly staff
Review 73:The hotel is in a good location and a 2 minute walk from Shin Okubo station - only one stop on the Yamanote line from Shinjuku. Shinjuku station is MASSIVE and hard to find your way around when you first arrive in Tokyo dragging baggage. I am pleased we stayed at Tokyo Plaza as it was so easy to find. THe staff spoke good English (not common in Japan) and were extremely helpful, especially Jimmy :) Thanks! Other reviewers have complained about having to walk up a set of stairs with their suitcase to reception. But get real, you have to walk up and down stairs with baggage at the railway station, but noone complains about that!!
Review 74:Small rooms, No coin laundry available, vending machine area is not well kept and shared as smoking room.
Review 75:Near to Shin Okubo station, Korea Town and lots of eateries nearby.
Review 76:The staff were friendly and helpful, the train station was just a couple of minutes walk, great location close to Shinjuku, Shibuya, Harajuku. Lots of restaurants and convenience stores right outside the hotel. Very handy for takeaway when travelling with small children - when you can't always eat out!
Review 77:The apartment was situated amongst the bright lights, busy streets and many restaurants along the strip known as 'Korea Town'...and only a stones through from the Shin-okubo station, McDonalds and 7/11. Even though the street was super busy, from our apartment we weren't kept awake by any noise what so ever. The staff at the hotel were lovely, and were able to communicate great directions and help where needed. We stayed in a room which had 1 Double and 1 single. I was a little worried when I read some reviews about Tokyo Plaza and the size of rooms, facilities, but for the price and location I didn't have a problem, I actually found it rather nice and for someone who has a horrible sleeping pattern- I slept like a baby. I really enjoyed our stay, and If I ever travel back that way I'll be sure to book again!

Review 117:No lift so you need to carry your luggage up to 1st floor
Review 118:Room big enough, nice breakfast and only 100 mts from Shin Okubu station
Review 119:Smoking room felt eerie for some reason. Area of hotel (Koreatown) not clean like Shinjuku.
