Reviews for Vilafoia

Review 1:Staff locked up and left for the night at 6pm and there was no evening meal option so we had to get a taxi to and from a restaurant in Monchique as we could not face driving up and down the mountain in the dark. Rooms felt very sterile - not for us.

Review 2:Lovely location but tortuous route to get to.

Review 3:Pretty steep entrance road (last 50 meters), but this is more a place feature.

Review 4:Nice romantic location with a small but wonderful garden outside. Spacious quit room with a terrace and magnificent view (our room was called Eucalyptus). Welcome fruits. Good breakfast (includes cooked eggs and good cheese selection) in a separate terrace (or inside a roomy hall when weather is not good). Easy access to the nearest mountain peaks (Foia and Picota) and natural trails. Not far from the coast (less than 1 hour by car).

Review 5:Having to drive along quite narrow road to nearest restaurant but only about 5mins.away so not too bad. Would benefit from 2 comfortable chairs and small table on the balcony instead of 1 lounger and 1 hard chair.

Review 6:Fantastic location up in the hills with wonderful views to the coast from your balcony.Good quality bedding and huge bed, extra towels provided for pool as well.Great breakfast with eggs cooked to order.Surrounded by cork oaks in very peaceful surroundings. Really lovely.

Review 7:Other than shower gel no toiletries in the bathroom but hey...great place to stay.

Review 8:Easy so find mountain hideaway following the directions provided by the hotel. Comfortable room and ensuite with smashing balcony with grand views. Good breakfast on the terrace served by friendly staff. Excellent Wifi. We recommend La Charente restaurant in town.

Review 9:Nothing really, I would have preferred an extra pillow to sleep more comfortably.

Review 10:The location and the considerate staff in acknowledging my late arrival and for contacting me to explain the access arrangements.

Review 11:A small point but only having one lounger on our terrace seemed strange - only one of us could recline in luxury and drink in the views while the other had to perch on a hard, fold up wooden chair! The addition of a second lounger would have made everything perfect!

Review 12:Fantastic location, views to die for, great atmosphere, accommodation to compete with a very expensive hotel. Lovely fresh and varied breakfasts, fruit, tea and coffee always available.

Review 13:Most of the staff were fab but as a family we seemed to manage to irritate the manager a lot - using the provided cutlery and plates to make a salad was frowned upon, asking for some (already laid out) breakfast before 8am and trying to bring in some hired bikes were all behaviors which met with disapproval. She was obviously tired and we overheard lots of grumbling about being fed up with working 12 hour days but it left us feeling like we had to walk on egg shells.

Review 14:The location, the peacefulness, the fab accommodation, the scrummy breakfasts, the Portuguese staff. Blissful place.

Review 15:Some noise from the quarry. The setting on the balcony was a little bit strange - one chair and one sunbed and no table ... (The frindly staff borrowed us one table thou :))

Review 16:The facilities, the friendly staff, the view

Review 17:Plastic sheeting under mattress not very comfortable.Couldn't quite work out which way the quilt was supposed to fit.Could do with proper furniture on balcony

Review 18:Everything here is spotless. The rooms are big and comfortable. The view from the balcony is fantastic, especially at sunset when you can see all the Algarve lit up.The breakfast is superb. The staff here are wonderful and will do anything possible for the comfort of guests.

Review 19:Not really anything bad but the room size was a bit small and the room lacked a proper table to put things on (there was just a small ledge).

Review 20:The view, the helpfulness of the staff, the cleanliness, modern bath and the nice terrace. Breakfast had a nice variety of foods including hot dishes like eggs.

Review 21:Nothing!

Review 22:Vilafoia was an excellent place to stay - it had everything we needed, was very well equipped and the staff were incredibly helpful and friendly. We couldn't have asked for a better place to stay to explore this delightful area of Portugal.

Review 23:Smart hotel. Tastefully furnished. Helpful staff. Underfloor heating meant it was pleasantly warm in February. Views to die for. Great restaurant at the end of the road.

Review 24:Hotel being renovated early morning noise. No breakfast till 9 am a bit late if you want to walk

Review 25:Lovely position with spectacular views . Good breakfast. Nice staff

Review 26:A car is a must to reach Vilafoia. The driving direction needs improvement as we did have difficulties in reaching.

Review 27:The location is very good and the view of the mountain and the sky is very clear. Very personalized service by Staff members creating a feel of a second home.breakfast too is good.

Review 28:Very anti smoking. There was a designated area outside downstairs. High in the hills so not for the nervous driver/ passenger.

Review 29:Very nice hotel. Clean rooms, comfortable bed. Staff very helpful. Exceptional views from balcony.Good choice at breakfast. Free teas and coffee.

Review 30:We spent a very relaxing 4 days at Vilafoia. Stefanie could not have been more welcoming, and helpful, giving us loads of information about the area. The hotel is spotless, and in a beautiful location. Highly recommended.

Review 31:The room was a bit noisy due construction and the use of electric blinds in the early morning by all rooms

Review 32:Very friendly personnel Comfortable room Good location and exceptional view

Review 33:No fridge in room. No kettle in room. No furniture on balcony. No privacy on balcony, from adjoining rooms. No Filter coffee in restaurant. Rain drops onto balcony, from drain pipe 2 metres above,,......noisy.

Review 34:Nice views.

Review 35:No kettle or fridge in room. location up windy steep roads not enough signs lower down hill. Breakfast choice could be better. Bit overpriced for a basic modern clean room with a view

Review 36:Modern clean hotel

Review 37:It is not a real defect, but the hotel is in a position slightly isolated (should be taken into consideration when you choose)

Review 38:Peaceful atmosphere, beautiful spacious rooms, friendly staff and breakfast

Review 39:The breakfasts were a little repetitive. It would have been nice to have some pastries etc. and a larger selection of cereals.

Review 40:Vilafoia is very well run, clean and the staff were friendly and helpful.

Review 41:Would have preferred there to be two sun loungers on the private balcony.

Review 42:Lovely setting.spacious balcony Stephanie was very helpful but not intrusive. Breakfast was great sat on the terrace with such wonderful views. Hope to go back soon. Great restaurant within walking distance. A very enjoyable stay.

Review 43:very friendly staff

Review 47:Great walks through beautiful woods...lovely place to stay....amazingly quiet...

Review 48:Just a little out of town ,taxis are around 5euros so not expensive.

Review 49:Small hotel dedicated staff more than helpful.

Review 50:Good location.Modern Building.Enjoyable breakfast.Helpful staff.

Review 51:Nothing to point out.

Review 52:Place, staff,layout.

Review 53:No restaurant, didn't spot it in the hotel listing, although great places 5-10 min drive away.

Review 54:Rooms could have more home furnishings

Review 55:Swimming pool and coffee and tea making facilities in the communal areas

Review 56:Such a lovely position and the staff made us feel so comfortable. Within easy reach of some super restaurants.

Review 57:Lovely location in the hills above the Algarve a great base to explore away from the ugly coastal buildings.

Review 58:The staff were so lovely and friendly. Stefanie was especially a pleasure deal with. Just the perfect hotel and staff...!!

Review 59:Wonderful location and very friendly/helpful staff!

Review 60:Very clean and tidy, extremely friendly and helpful staff, great room with space and wonderful balcony with views

Review 61:Quiet, view to die for, roomy balcony, seclusion and the village of Monchique was lovely with friendly people.

Review 62:surrounded by cork trees in peaceful mountainside idyll

Review 63:The comfort and luxury of a villa in the heart of the mountains. This was a return visit staying for a week and we loved everything about it.

Review 64:The neighbours dog's were a bit noisy

Review 65:The view.size of the room.

Review 66:the room was too hot at night- maybe we did not work the system properly?!

Review 67:The views, location, staff, and breakfast excellent

Review 68:Staff, very friendly and helpful. Good breakfast, nice room

Review 69:lack of comfortable chairs to look at the view!

Review 70:The view

Review 71:plastic undersheet although i understand this is standard in portugal

Review 72:beautiful position good facilities excellent design and decor

Review 73:To leave this place !

Review 74:Very beautiful hotel with a charming and thoughtful staff. An ideal haven of peace to relax in the middle of cork oaks.

Review 75:It was a bit noisy - soundproofing between rooms isn't amazing.

Review 76:Tranquil, great pool, amazing views, wifi was helpful. Stefanie was very helpful and had good suggestions of where to eat.

Review 77:What I didn´t like at all and will probably be a reason not to come back is that cleaning is not included for stays under 7 days. Being in the countryside, with ants and insects and dust entering, it is really important to clean every day, especially with a crawling baby, and nobody likes to be cleaning 1 hour each morning while on holidays, at least I didn't. Given that the price payed is not cheap and given that we are in Portugal where cleaning staff is much cheaper than the rest of Europe, this should definitely be included with no extra charge.

Review 78:We stayed 4 days in one of the Studios, where the view is not as nice as in the main building but still very nice, only the quarry ruins it a bit. Beautiful and peaceful area, comfortable studio, well equipped kitchenette although microwave is missing (really important with a 1-yr old baby). Very nice baby cot and eating chair left for us there. Very nice to have heated floor, nicer than air conditioning which is also available. It was too cold to be sited at the balcony but I imagine it is a great place to read and nap during summer months.

Review 79:I would have preferred a double bed and not two single beds pushed together.

Review 80:I loved the peaceful atmosphere, the trees, the cuckoo calling in the afternoon, the relaxing swims in the pool, the night sky and the lights of Portimau and Lagos twinkling in the distance. I liked the rosemary and lavender growing everywhere and the care taken with the gardens. Stefanie was very nice, helpful and gave us some good suggestions. We went for peri peri chicken at Restaurant Rampa, very basic but lovely feel of being in the mountains and good peri peri chicken. We enjoyed walking in the mornings before it got too hot, the walk to the convent is lovely in the early morning and so is the circular walk at the top of Foia Can't wait to go back to Vilafoia...

Review 81:as others have suggested, we would have preferred breakfast to be available a little earlier than 9 a.m. - but loved eating the breakfast out on the terrace. weekend was very quiet, during the week there was a little noise from the quarry across the valley, but nothing too intrusive.

Review 82:lovely place in a lovely setting. great room, well equipped. peaceful, and very quiet at this time of year. Suggested restaurant close to the hotel was excellent - but got very busy on Sunday lunch.

Review 83:Stephanie, who greeted us, was very welcoming and thorough in explaining the amenities of Vila Foia. The rooms are very comfortable, the view is great, it's a nice walk to Monchique and good restaurants. You can enjoy the pool or sit on the terrace. Breakfast on the terrace was wonderful, especially after arriving from temperatures of -20 C. Stay if you can!

Review 84:Poor TV signal and some interruption to Wifi connection.

Review 85:Location among the cork trees. Lovely studio with kitchenette and large balcony. Quietness and relaxation Leila was an excellent hostess, so friendly and helpful. Village and restaurants. West coast beaches.

Review 86:Very minor point - not huge amount of character in rooms but extremely comfortable and nicely finished.

Review 87:Stefanie was an lovely hostess and made us feel very welcome. Modern tecnhologies in the hotel, beautiful views and stunning landscape gardens. We were the only guests in the hotel as low season. yummy breakfast.

Review 88:Opencast quarry across the other side of the valley! Grounds were lovely but had an 'off season' feel and were perhaps not maintained to the standard of the summer?

Review 89:Staff were great and location was lovely.

Review 90:Nothing.

Review 91:Brilliant service from Leila, lovely comfortable rooms, great swimming pool and gardens, amazing views, excellent nearby restaurants. Perfect.

Review 92:Check-in only until 8pm and no staff in the building after 8pm

Review 93:The view is beautiful. The swimming pool area is really good to relax. The peaceful atmosphere, the kind staff and the value for money are the strongest qualities of the place.

Review 94:If restaurants nearby could be closer... But 15 minutes walk with fantastc landscape view on safe road will not kill you and for sure make your vital power stronger ;0)

Review 95:Fantastic customer touch, great place to rest in mountains with fantastic paronamic viev on Lagos, Alvor and Portimao, We got great recommendations to visit West coast cosy towns and beatifull beaches. For sure one of best places to stey in Algarve, escape from south coast and enjoy silence, nature and calm atmosohere, what was great our 5 and 7 years old children loved that as well ;0) If you are looking for better version of Tuscany go to VilaFoia ;0)

Review 96:Nothing we didn't like. You would have to have a car.

Review 97:We loved everything about our stay at the guest house. The room was spotless and well equipped. The staff were great and gave us tips and maps for beaches and restaurants. This place gave us the most tranquil, resting holiday we have taken. The beaches were only a short drive away, the scenery was amazing and we will defiantly be returning.

Review 98:Leaving.

Review 99:Beautiful retreat in the hilly countryside a short distance from Monchique. The view from our balcony was across the valley and all the way to the Atlantic Ocean. Beautiful. Breakfast was excellent. The accommodation was lovely and restful, and the staff most helpful. We basically replanned our stay in the Algarve based on staff input as to beaches to explore and places to eat. We planned to stay 2 days and ended up staying 4.

Review 100:we did like Vila Foia very much, clean comfortable room, big bathroom, wonderful view, great choice of food for breakfast, free tea whole day, swimming pool in lovely garden and a lot of place to visit nearby. Stefanie and other staff were very helpfull during our stay with recommendation of what to visit. we will definitelly return one day.

Review 101:No service on Sundays (no cleaning, beds not made) - but Sunday rate is the same as for every other day... . Inflexible, late breakfast time: 9.00 - take it or leave it!

Review 102:Location, building, gardens, staff, breakfast.

Review 103:This is one of the nicest hotels I have stayed in. Location is brilliantfor anyone wanting to forget the outside world and relax, while all thecomfort makes you do it in style. I would definitely go back there againand again.

Review 104:N/A

Review 105:This hotel was heaven on Earth! All the modern amenities anyone would want (+ more!) tucked away in a beautiful location. The staff was extremely helpful and friendly as well! Highly recommended!!!!

Review 106:Especially the location in the cork forest. Everything perfect- the host,Stefanie, the room, the view, the breakfast.

Review 107:Stefanie and her staff were very friendly and personable......we had a great stay!!

Review 108:I felt like I was at home. Well if my home was a beautiful house a top a mountain

Review 109:The welcome of Stephanie(the manager), the situation in the nature of the hotel, the view from the room and the breakfast!

Review 110:A good way from the town centre - a car is essential.

Review 111:Everything!

Review 112:Stephanie was friendly, efficient and helpful. The breakfast which was included in the price was excellent. A perfect value for money stay.

Review 113:Super relaxing atmosphere!

Review 117:Location was outstanding, A wonderful B&B with very friendly and helpful staff.

Review 118:Very cosy hotel, make us feel at home. Great breakfast and swimming pool.
