Reviews for Hotel Grand Chancellor Launceston

Review 1:Fittings a bit tired though this is an older style hotel. Must have been magnificent in its day. Bath small...I'm only 163cm and felt like a giant in this bath! Still, was nice to soak in after a day sightseeing.

Review 2:Comfortable king size bed. Parking good

Review 3:On arrival our bathroom floor had pubic hair on it. Checked the mini bar there were items missing, had to inform the front desk. Room wasn't cleaned daily only bed made, tea, coffee and milk wasn't restocked. Same towel left in bathroom for 2 days

Review 4:Great location, in walking distance to main shopping area. Good sized rooms, with a great shower. Staff on check in where friendly and helpful.

Review 5:The cleanliness of the room was an issue for me, I've never stayed in a dustier room. More time needs to be spent cleaning. There were even toenails under the bed!

Review 6:Great location, close to the city and restaurants and the park.

Review 7:There were only two towels for four people, so we needed to request more - they were sent up very quickly. Also, no glasses in the room.

Review 8:Staff were friendly and helpful, room was clean and big enough for our family of four. Parking is at a public car park next door, but there were plenty of spaces.

Review 9:portable air-conditioner was so loud we had to switch it off to sleep - the window wouldn't open so we were extremely hot and comfortable

Review 10:location and staff were great

Review 11:Room was so hot even with a noisy air conditioner running day and night. Staff not always helpful.

Review 12:Walking distance from some of Launceston's attractions

Review 13:The only thing is ...that I didn't like the pillows .. Too high and on the hard side. Found it hard to get comfortable ... Complementary wifi would have been good

Review 14:Layout was good and the shower and bathroom was great.

Review 15:Have had 2 thefts while staying at this hotel and dealt with very poor customer service subsequently. Will never stay here again and unlikely to give the chain a chance if this is reflective of their service.

Review 16:Our stay was a short, one night stay that required us to have to be relatively central and have access to car parking. The GC provided both - with overall good amenities.

Review 17:As others have said, there is only a portable evaporative cooler in the room which is quite noisy. We turned ours off overnight and opened the windows which really wasn't an issue. The room itself isn't overpriced but everything costs extra - breakfast ($28pp), internet, room service fee, and 10% extra on food/drinks on public holidays. There was a large bottle of water by the bed which cost $6.50! None of these things would put us off staying again - just beware that all of the 'extras' are quite pricey.

Review 18:Room was very spacious, quiet, clean and comfortable. Great location and staff were friendly and helpful, even giving us a 12pm checkout at no cost.

Review 19:No air conditioning, a portable machine in the room that didn't cool and was very noisy. Staff provided a very bland excuse for the lack of AC. Room furnishings old, with torn curtains, carpet stained. No ambience with little attempt to create a welcoming environment such as art work and scatter cushions. Poor service in bar area, tables not cleared away. Breakfast buffet 'hot' food cold, fruit platter full of rotten fruit, yet fruit salad fruit was not ripe with a poor selection available VERY expensive for the standard of accommodation provided

Review 20:well located near city attractions

Review 21:The noise from all the other rooms water, showers/toilet in the wall was so bad ..it woke me up several times .. and the portable aircon that was a extra noise on top.We were on the top floor so not sure why the water noises so bad . Even tho the hotel and staff is great. Rest is the most important part of the stay when traveling so this noise from water pipes needs hotels attention. Rm 6016.

Review 22:Dinner and buffet was wonderful ..my pasta dish was the best and lamb shank was amazing

Review 23:The lighting in our main room was very dim, there was no control to adjust it for brightness.. The Portable Airconditioner is very noisy in the room and you can actually hear the neighbouring rooms Portable Airconditioner on as well.. The controls were not sufficient enough to lower the noise level.. Above all the room and Kingsize bed is lovely and comfortable and the Rainshower is beautiful..

Review 24:No express checkout system - old fashioned and had a queue that took about 30 minutes. Wi-fi/Internet quite a hefty additional charge. No ducted air-con - just a very noisy machine in the corner that didn't work well and made it hard to sleep.

Review 25:Well located. Nice bar area and excellent buffet breakfast. Staff were all pleasant and helpful. Happy hour at the bar was good fun.

Review 26:Airconditioning was exceptionally noisy and did little to cool the room - noted the internal coridoor was cool, shame about room. Car park was full so we drove around the block long enough to get a sought after park on the street and thankfully it was Saturday night so we weren't booked.

Review 27:2 double beds

Review 28:For a property that has been around for over 25 years it holds up quite well. Some of the fixtures and fittings are very dated and a refurb. would bring it up to date.

Review 29:Great position, walking distance from the CBD and many of the better restaurants in town. Excellent bar and bistro on the ground floor and parking is on the grounds.

Review 30:Bathroom needed an upgrade - I seriously stubbed my toes on the huge doorstop situated right in front of the toilet, and almost fell! Light shades were tattered and needed replacing. Room was advertised as sweeping views - but basically all I could see was some rooftops and the window was very dirty. Wasnt impressed that I had to pay for parking.

Review 31:Generous sized room - big bed. It had been a hot day and the chiller was going when we arrived, so room was nice and cool.

Review 32:Our room was incredibly hot and there is no way of altering the airconditiong that feeds into the room. The portable cooling unit was ineffective and windows can be opened but cant be locked open, We spent a very restless night and I must say this would effect us booking again except maybe in winter

Review 33:The hotel is in a great location and we found the restaurant good value. The staff were wonderful and very helpful.,

Review 34:A one-off occasion: an end-of-school year "do" blocked off the entry to the hotel with no chance of entry for an hour

Review 35:Staff were helpful. Location is close to city and South Launceston.

Review 36:Facility is terrible. There is no air condition, only cooler which is named 'air conditioner' . It is too hot, we even can not sleep at night. When we check in, the staff said there was free wifi. But, the wifi can not be accessed. The facility is too old, looked 'dirty'. This hotel does not deserve the price and the rating. We will never ever come again.

Review 37:Location is great!

Review 38:Showered needed replacing in our bathroom; calcification doesn't suit a 4 1/2 star hotel.

Review 39:Super comfy beds. Quiet. Good staff and tasty room service.

Review 40:The bed was really uncomfortable, I think they need to invest in some new pillows. Mine felt like I'd slept on a bag of rocks and messed my neck up for a few days.

Review 41:Good location and easy to find because the building is huge!

Review 42:We found the bar fridge to be noisy and interfered with our sleep.

Review 43:Grand Chancellor is a very comfortable hotel well situated in the CBD of Launceston. The rooms were well decorated and airy. Facilities were clean and service excellent.

Review 44:Nothing bad

Review 45:I liked the fact that when I stated I had booked a twin room and was put into a double, there was no problems at all getting it changed. They were helpful and obliging. Very friendly staff. The location was excellent. Very close to shops, restaurants and taxis.

Review 46:Checked in and staff very friendly. Only problem was we were paying for parking for 2 nights. First night okay on our return for second night the car park was full that was really frustrating as it was late at night. Would stay again.

Review 47:I was so disappointed at the outdated room. I can't remember when I last booked a hotel with this star rating and had to shower with a stained shower curtain flapping around. The toilet seat slid sideward In the pan and was stained. The bottom of the fridge broken. The curtains yellowed and the furniture appears to be the original- damaged and faded. I went down to ask for a late checkout. This was granted to 11 am and I then raised my concerns about the room. The response I received was "at least you have a late checkout at no charge". Unfortunately no one told the cleaning staff who came in at 10. Won't be back.

Review 48:It was close to where I needed to be and easy to find. Even though the furniture was marked and stained, it was clean.

Review 49:Broken chair, curtains off the hooks, tissues, tea bags not replaced. Emailed the hotel and response was Manager would contact me, that was 4 weeks ago and still waiting.

Review 50:Friendly and helpful staff, central location

Review 51:Had to park across the street as the car park was full due to a function.loud door banging constantly early in the morning.not sure if it was the cleaners or other guests

Review 52:Breakfast was good with a good range of cereals, fruit and hot food

Review 53:Tired overall decor and dirty hall carpets and stained couch, dated bathroom, dirty windows ,unappealing lobby .

Review 54:friendly staff and good breakfast and dinner meals.

Review 55:The Aircon unit in room was shocking, very noisy and ineffective. We moved rooms because of the noise but no better. We were told that all rooms had the same free standing units and they were the best solution with the new renos. There were vents above the door, we are guessing it was too expensvie to use these again?? An old wet towel was left on the bathroom floor.

Review 56:The room I stayed in is getting a little tired, particularly the air-conditioner but also the bathroom could do with some renovations.

Review 57:Excellent Staff throughout from service desk, to restaurant to cleaners, all were friendly, efficient and professional. First Class in my opinion.

Review 58:This place is a dump. Using the name Grand Chancellor to hide a run down old third rate hotel. Stayed in an executive suite with a tiny horrible ensuite and some sort of weird R2D2 type of air conditioner in the corner of the room. So noisy that it was impossible to sleep with it on. Appalled at the amount charge for the hideous hotel.

Review 59:Didn't like much at all

Review 60:Roll away bed was very uncomfortable, there was no complimentary newspaper, complimentary anniversary gift was of insignificant low value, old and stained crockery

Review 61:Location and room rent

Review 62:The room wasn't vacuumed properly, there were peas under the coffee table in my room when I first arrived.

Review 63:The front counter staff were very friendly and the location is so central to all Launceston has to offer

Review 64:Friendly service from reception and was a good stay with a clean room. Have stayed here twice already and would recommend it to anyone that is looking for a nice hotel to stay in launceston.

Review 65:Check in the staff member behind the desk seemed annoyed he had to do his job. Was rude when we wanted to pay the bond for the room by cash not credit card. Check out they tried to charge car park fees when we didn't have a car. Claimed it was a mix up. So double check all charges before paying. Rooms could do with an update to be more modern.

Review 66:room size was good. Beds comfy.

Review 67:Paying for car parking was disappointing & no wifi in the hotel which is a standard inclusion in most hotels these days

Review 68:Location was good & easy to get around

Review 69:Room felt tired. The fridge was noisy (until I turned it off) and when I got hot at 3am it was a choice of either turning on the air conditioner (which sounded like a 747 taking off) or opening the window and hearing all the drunks making their way home.

Review 70:Great location. Staff were mostly friendly.

Review 71:Room could of been a lot cleaner, buffet breakfast and dinner the night before were disappointing for the price. Expensive wifi/internet, which you needed to look up attractions as there was no tourist info to be found.

Review 72:Level 1 room facing street a little noisy

Review 73:Old worldly charm with all in-house facilities and access to Launceston's great shopping and eating Reasonably priced

Review 74:Very dared facilities, Paying with credit card attracts an additional 1.5% fee. If payment made by eftpos credit card security fee which is entire fee apparently can take up to two week to be refunded. So you actually pay twice.

Review 75:Location

Review 76:2nd floor Room which overlooked entry to a nightclub. drunk patrons yelling and swearing til about 2am. Very unenjoyable stay. Left exhausted. Checked under bed before leaving to find old chewing gum packets and soy sauce sachets which had obviously been there for some time.

Review 77:location

Review 78:A bit noisey, could hear music from a venue both saturday nights we stayed. No tissues in room, no tourist information available.

Review 79:Central, great lounge/lobby area.

Review 80:The noise from the pub/night club across the road. Also the dust that flew out when you opened the curtains.

Review 81:The central location. The fact that you could open the windows for fresh air. The food from room service was excellent.

Review 82:On arrival our room was extremely warm. It was 10pm at night and quite cool outside. We turned the cooling & thought no more of it. However the room got hotter and hotter and was extremely uncomfortable over night. In the morning we complained to management and they said they would get a service person to look at it. We left for the day and on returning found the room to still be very warm. They offered us a fan. And apologised that the service technician had not been able to attend. On closer inspection we noticed that the stand alone cooling unit wears disconnected from the pipe and so the reason the room was getting hotter was bc it was sending the hot air out the back of the unit into the room. My husband went down to reception and complained and they offered us free car parking ($12 value). When my husband said that wasn't sufficient and at a minimum we expected complimentary breakfast he was told it was already on our room but that the manager was 'waiting to see if we pushed for that.' Room service only refilled 1/2 of the in room Items and we had to follow up twice to have the missing items bought to the room.

Review 83:Central to Launceston. Hotel is very clean and in the process of being modernised.

Review 84:Windows filthy so couldnt enjoy view. Also smell of cigarette smoke came through ventilation system so much it set off my asthma

Review 85:Very comfortable room and bed.

Review 86:Air conditioner was noisy, and didn't cool sufficiently

Review 87:Spacious comfortable room, ease getting to room Lovely cafe, facilities were excellent Nice walk to local shops

Review 88:Located next to a lift well with known scheduled major works to occur on a public holiday. Not notified of such important info until woken at 0700 to extreme notice levels that continued throughout the ENTIRE day. We had to vacate the room for the day as it was intolerable to be in it. Bathroom shower was full of mould and should be renovated for the amount being charged per night.

Review 89:Great location. Staff very friendly.

Review 90:It took 3 attempts to get us the right room. 1st had the bed head on the elevator shaft and the second had a horrible musky smell

Review 91:The location is great

Review 92:The fan in the bathroom didn't operate. The breakfast room food, amenity and staff (particularly the blonde woman on for breakfast Saturday morning 24 October 2015) were snippy. Not enough staff on for check-out time either. One person. Seriously lengthy delay. Also, the whole keeping your card funds for four or five days when you use cash to pay for the accommodation at check-out needs to be looked at. Seriously not okay.

Review 93:Location was fabulous and rooms were neat, tidy and comfortable.

Review 94:excellent location - easy walk to all areas of city, lots of restaurants nearby, Harvest Farmers Market across the street, City Park at the end of the street

Review 95:The noise until 2am from the night club next door and the noisy young people on the 2nd floor banging doors after attending a function at the hotel. Apparently spoken to by the night security several times.

Review 96:The convenience to the city and shops.

Review 97:Only one criticism, which was the dinner in restaurant. It was ok but not up to standard I expected.

Review 98:Lovely room, very comfortable. Great staff. Had a very pleasant stay. Breakfast buffet was very enjoyable

Review 99:We thought this stay, breakfast was not up to the usual standard. Food was not as presentable and appealing as normal for example the bacon had a lot of fat on it. The scrambled eggs did not look appetising at all.

Review 100:Portable reverse-cycle air conditioner was a bit noisy and didn't seem to be working efficiently. Had issue with front desk on checking out: one staff on duty was reluctant to believe we had complimentary parking permit and that we did not watch any movie in our room the night before. Parking space shared by house guests and the public is on "first come first in" basis so it can be an hit and miss affair.

Review 101:Location; value for money for the promotion special package we got.

Review 102:Noisy - banging doors through the night and people talking loudly in corridors. Generally staff were helpful but one staff member gave us incorrect information about payment which was then refuted by the staff member the next day. Bedding configuration 1 queen and 2 singles actually not available although I had booked this specifically on line.

Review 103:Great location and nice to have access to restaurant for dinner.

Review 104:The bathroom was very small and a little dated but clean

Review 105:We were upgraded to an executive room and for the price we paid it was excellent value for money. A large room with seating area and a very comfortable king bed.Good position with easy walk to restaurants bars and shops.

Review 106:Room on Level 1 was tired - very noisy fridge. No sound proofing so very noisy in the morning with plumbing and doors opening and closing.

Review 107:Location great, as was the breakfast. Nice foyer area. Room was spacious.

Review 108:THERE WAS NO HEATING IN THE ROOM AND WE WERE COLD. WE COULD ONLY SEE AIR CONDITIONING. WHY WOULD YOU WANT AIR CON IN TASMANIA. YOU NEED HEATING MOST OF ALL.

Review 109:No kids menu in the hotel restaurant. We were near the lifts and it was quite noisy. Room had 2 x towels for family of 4. The reception staff said they would have 2 more sent up - they never came.

Review 110:Reception staff were friendly and helpful and the rooms were very clean and welcoming.

Review 111:All staff were friendly and highly professional however the girl serving at bar on the evening we stayed was unprofessional & unhelpful.

Review 112:Location great could walk to everything . Buffet breakfast great good value for family.

Review 113:5 year old daughter found empty stubbie next to bed, biscuits in drawer had been half eaten and not replaced, extra bed ordered was not in room on arrival.

Review 114:Was in the centre of town

Review 115:They were Under age guests and the mini bar was meant To be emptied Prior to arrival. It was full on check in to the room and only when the guests returned after their function later in the evening did they see it was emptied.

Review 116:I felt well looked after at all times. Very comfortable and the staff were accommodating. Wonderful breakfast!

Review 117:When I checked in it was with a smile and your reception explained that there was building works going on and a lift out. I was late for dinner yet was still accommodated with a smile.

Review 118:Had a meal in the restaurant. The Angus Burger was probably the best I can ever recall. "perfect" Excellent breakfast too! The staff were very helpful, rooms were comfy. Would defiantly recommend to friends to stay.

Review 119:Showers never had much hot water, would only heat to maximum luke warm. Bathroom was quite cramped. Needed a better tea and coffee station and somewhere convenient to plug in kettle. Difficult to get to sleep some nights due to noisy events on in town. No temperature control in rooms.

Review 120:Decor and furnishings lovely. Great location. Comfortable bed. Good views of Laun.

Review 121:3 rooms booked - none available until 3 pm. Light globes missing in 2 lamps. Breakfast trays (outside 4 rooms from previous guests) left in corridor until late evening. Could not see out of windows in 1 room because of grime. (So different from excellent service & accommodation at GCH Hobart).

Review 122:Good location.

Review 123:No hot water in the shower. Temperature was luke warm at best. Also no water pressure in the shower, making it rather difficult for someone with long hair to wash it. Wifi was just ok. I had a very noisy room right next to the housekeeping area, I was woken up very early by the noise of the staff.

Review 124:Great location

Review 125:Pillows were very uncomfortable and I had to turn the fridge off as it rattled all night over priced as I think prices go up just cause the Afl footy is on

Review 126:Close to all shops

Review 127:Overall, the appearance of the hotel was quite tired and in need of a revamp, which I assume they are completing as one of the lifts was out of service for maintenance whilst we were there.

Review 128:Very central and located close to facilities.

Review 129:We booked a twin got yo hotel went to room, 1 bed, 4 people, advisedreception, fixed...... Went to new room, same issue, , again on toreception new room...yay beds for all!!!!!I would have to say if we paid for the breakfast I would have ask for a refund

Review 130:We did have issues with getting the correct room, but Nick the managersorted it well, drinks( very nice hot chocolates

Review 131:The room! It's dirty, and very out dated. After coming from GrandChancellor in Hobart, we were expecting a similar standard - being thesame hotel chain. The whole place is a contradiction in decor - the mainlobby and our room. Crockery in the room and used for room service ismismatched and very dated (not even 'vintage'). Update thebathrooms - please! The shower curtain and nasty little hair dryerattached to the wall need to be replaced. And... It would not be hard tohave matching complimentary toiletries - we had three different brands -making it look like leftovers. There was no hook/rail to hang thehand towel anywhere in the bathroom. The wardrobe is very small andpokey. Lighting needs to be updated and all very shabby and dirty lampsneed to be removed. The room decor needs updating - the furniture andthe carpet needs replacing. It is a really bad look to have a portablefan and a portable air conditioner stored in the corner of the room (inthe middle of winter!). This makes the room look like a cheap motel.Aircon system needs updating to cater for heating and cooling. Theethanol 'heater' in the main lobby looks totally out of place inan older building that could have it's features highlighted andenhanced. (And is not very effective for heating such an open area). Itis not a good look to have an empty shop in the main lobby - makes thehotel look like it is not thriving. The doorman was standing outsidegreeting guests - it was 2 degrees, and he had no gloves. Give him somegloves as part of his uniform! Please adjust your policy for access touse the computer and printer in the lobby - $5 for 30 minutes - really! Most hotels will just print out your airline boarding passes for you, oryou can access the computer for smaller units of time eg 10 mins for $2- all that is needed to print boarding passes. (I refused to pay the $5and we used e-boarding passes saved on our mobiles).

Review 132:Daytime reception person Jarrad was extremely polite, pleasant and veryhelpful every time we spoke with him. The older evening shift gentlemanwas abrupt and less inclined to be helpful. The breakfast staff werecheery and helpful and breakfast was well presented, good range offoods and very tasty. Room service food was good - as requested. Bedlinen was nice!

Review 133:Having a bottle of water placed on the bed side table saying to enjoy and they would charge like $6 onto the room. I don't think so! Over priced room service. Staff we not friendly. $6 to park in a half empty car park. Bed was hard as a rock. Very small and dated room. Noisy hallways. No real facilities to speak of.

Review 134:The price was low. But it needs to be low or no one would stay there. Was okay for one night.

Review 135:Overpowering smell from cleaning products or air fresheners used in room.

Review 136:Obliging staff - happy to move our table in the restaurant away from the draught from the door.

Review 137:Minor point that the car parking is next door and when I parked I got the very last spot - not sure what would have happened if no further available.

Review 138:Great location just slightly out of the city centre. Room was exceptionally large given the cost. The hotel ambience is one of a much more expensive hotel.
