Reviews for Estalagem Abrigo da Montanha

Review 1:Coffee at breakfast.

Review 2:Great view from private balcony as well as from the rest of the premises. The pool is nice. Even though we were with just a few guests all breakfast tables were prepared which gave it welcome feeling.

Review 3:There are a few small things in the hotel in general and in the room in particular that need attention. The beds were quite hard but that is a personal preference.

Review 4:The location. The effort made by the receptionist to be of help to us.

Review 5:Despite requesting no or few stairs as Myvwife is disabled the entire place is built into a cliff with stairs and stairs and stairs everywhere. She just cried when she saw it. Dark painted cork ceilings and paneling everywhere. The decor and furnishings don't look like they've been changed since the 1970s Bed like rock. Tiny synthetic pillows. Cracked bidet. Shower shot water across the bath onto the towels. Smell of damp and mould even in reception. Breakfast all plastic wrapped on your table in the heat. Even the ham Coffee barely warm the ham was warmer! . Hotel is up for sale and limping along. Overwhelming sense of decay and age Could be a fantastic place with a lot of money and great vision was applied. Needless to say we only lasted one night but were charged 90 euros Found a real four star beautiful hotel a couple of miles away beautiful and comfortable. Everything this hotel is not

Review 6:Location and wonderful views and the gardener. He at least was full of smiles

Review 7:We struggled to lock the door to the room (needed a demo). The hotel restaurant was closed, and the nearby one shut at 7pm. Parking was pretty tight and had little shade. A fair number of steps to climb from the car to the room.

Review 8:Spacious room with excellent views over the surrounding hills and coastal plain. The rooftop pool was lovely and I used it as much as possible.

Review 9:Internet connectivity not that good :p

Review 10:Overall design, Big room, reasonable large bed and very confortable, heater on the toilet and hair dryer are a plus and they have it. Last but not least the breakfast was really nice^^

Review 11:We were the only guests in the hotel. Old but clean. I don't think it will last another year. Little choices with the breakfast, with moulds in the yoghurt and on the cheese and old bread.

Review 12:Beatifull view over the valley and a nice swimmingpool.

Review 13:- The breakfast was not a buffet, the table was set every day with the same food - since we spend 10 days in this hotel, the breakfast was a bit monotonous with the time... But it wasn't bad and we got fresh oranges from the hotel's own cultivation everyday! - The wifi connection isn't that good and just exist partly in the room (e.g. behind the door, in the bathroom but not from the couch).

Review 14:In the beginning we hesitated to book this hotel due to the other feedbacks (need of renovation etc.) - luckily we booked this nice hotel and had great holidays. Its not a new hotel and some stuff (e.g. shower head) could be replaced, but from our point of view this hotel is definetely not dilapidated. The staff is friendly and the hotel and our room were clean. We had a nice suite with living room and sleeping room and the terrace offered a wonderful view!

Review 15:Nothing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Review 16:The owner was most welcoming he could not do enough for us.Theviews from the swimming pool and verandas were out of the world. I defiantly go back for the experience again

Review 17:Only downside is the location as you have travel quite a bit to get to hotel as its high up in the mountain. But then again, that's why the view is so great.

Review 18:Beautifull views from every part of the hotel. Great staff, very friendly & helpfull. Spacious clean room with gorgeous little balcony. Magnificent views poolside.

Review 19:hard to get there at night without gps

Review 20:friendly staff

Review 21:Very welcoming host and stunning mountain location

Review 22:Personnel not friendly at all- not smiling - not saying hello.

Review 23:Helpful staff, great views from everywhere.Good restaurants close by.

Review 24:chambre spartiate et triste

Review 25:abords de l’hôtel amabilité du personnel

Review 26:Long wait for hot water.

Review 27:Location, ambience

Review 28:location, view from the above, good restaurant nearby, pool, big room with balcony, friendly staff with good english

Review 29:Hotel was basically closed - no restaurant, no other guests. Ten minutes for hot water. Toilet paper must be put in bin, not in toilet, however, our bin had not been emptied. Did not stay - very disappointed!

Review 30:Location was fantastic

Review 31:Could do with some TLC and modernization but did see signs that it was up for sale everywhere so not much effort to change needed yet I guess.

Review 32:Gorgeous View over the mountains down to the ocean. Close to everything but in a lovely quiet mountain location! Fantastic breakfast.

Review 33:4-star hotel without 24h front desk - or any other services after 8 pm :) Lots of ants and other bugs at breakfast table. Bread was baked probably a week ago. Gekkos at corridoors, but hey, those keeps bugs away..

Review 34:Spacious, very nice room. Quiet location. Nice, compact pool area at roof. Excellent public areas.

Review 35:The staff couldn't speak other languages so I was unable to gain any information. Breakfast wasn't on offer until 9am which meant I left at 7:30 without food. The room was dirty and hadn't been hoovered. There were massive ants everywhere. The place is up for sale and obviously unloved.

Review 36:Location as it was set into the hillside and the views were beautiful.

Review 37:The property is for sale and it is perhaps fair to say that it is time for a renovation of the bathrooms, windows and doors and the terrace areas. I am however a builder so I may be more critical than most guests.

Review 38:The service offered by Gildo the owner was excellent, the bed was very comfortable, the swimming pool was large and good, the views however were spectacular.

Review 39:A cosy hotel with a breathtaking view, especially from the swimming pool (which was also great). Breakfast was excellent and staff was very nice and made us feel at home. Instead of a tiny mini-bar, we had a big fridge+freezer full with juices, water, snacks, etc. This hotel has an excellent relation quality/price. Location is perfect: in the mountain but only at 30 km from some of the most well-known beaches. A great place to relax and enjoy life.

Review 40:When replacing lamps: don't buy the bright white energy savers but buy the energy savers with a nice yellowish light.

Review 41:Beautiful view all the way down to the beaches and sea. At night the countless lights of the holiday resorts by the sea and the countless stars in the sky. Friendly staff. Nice swimming pool on top of the roof. Great value for money.

Review 42:we wished we could have stayed longer, A charming hotel perfectly located for visiting monchique. Very friendly, couldn't believe they offered free use of their computors. Within easy walking distance of places to eat at night.

Review 43:There is no longer a restaurant on site - only a pizza place open until 1800h but there are a selection of restaurants within a few hundred yards.

Review 44:Just outside town, this hotel provides the best view of the Algarve that it can be possible to see. From many view points within the hotel, you can see the sweep of coast from Portimao to Lagos, framed by rolling green hills of orange, lemon and olive plantations. The pool is at the highest level, large and deep ( over 2 m in places - not the usual 'paddling' pool of many establishments) and fed by a pure mountain spring which made swimming refreshing and delicious. My favourite pool of our journey through Portugal.

Review 45:Needs updating Restaurant closed Breakfast choice

Review 46:Large room view

Review 47:Beautiful setting, really friendly owners, we were there out of season so it was very quiet. We stayed in one of the suites and it was lovely.

Review 48:Very friendly place

Review 49:Great swimming pool with a beautiful view.

Review 50:Nice and quiet area

Review 51:Nothing worth to mention as dis-likable

Review 52:Location, swimming pool, staff, breakfast, nearby restaurants

Review 53:The service was not very impressive. Sometimes felt like we were aninconvenience to the manager!

Review 54:The suite room, the swimming pool and the view.

Review 55:Spacious room. Very quite place. Beautiful view. Swimming pool. Very good place for relax.

Review 56:Very friendly atmosphere, all guests treated very well. Breakfast was excellent and the service was really very good.

Review 57:Although it is headed south, it is cool inside. It is on the slope ofa mountain.

Review 58:Amazing Hotel. Staff so friendly and helpful. Fantastic place to escape and kick back and relax. Views are out of this world. Will be going again

Review 59:Pool could be a little warmer...

Review 60:Very nice stay, nice people and good breakfast. Excellent view from the room.
