Reviews for Villa Termal Das Caldas De Monchique Spa Resort
Review 1:Hotel: wifi not in all rooms and generally slow. This is a real shame for such a worthy and well kept four star estate. Noisy and annoying A/C. - Spa: small pool (appr. 10x10 metres), missing hooks and lockers in the changing areas; most changing cabin doors cannot be locked (poor maintenance, missing oil).
Review 2:A quiet place. A most beautiful, laid back, setting in midst of lush green. The exterior of many of the various buildings looks like early XXth century, while the interior is fully modernised. Ample breakfast buffet. Memorable restaurant "1692" with tasty meals and five star waitors. Spacious sofa lobby with kettle. Friendly staff in the spa.
Review 3:The restaurant was very good both for dinner and breakfast had a very good selection. It was a shame that the facilities were not open until 10 am as it would have been nice to have a massage before breakfast.
Review 4:mattresses are too hard on aging bones!
Review 5:The spa facilities; very friendly and helpful staff - supportive while my husband was hospitalized in an emergency
Review 6:Hated and I repeat HATED the food in the pub. It was over priced and tasted awful.
Review 7:Wifi in the lobby only which was very inconvenient. The pool cost 15 euros with the cost of the swim hat which was expensive. Parking was okay for November but would be terrible during busy time. The breakfast was very good
Review 8:booked the hotel thinking there would be access to the sauna and steam room, however on arrival we were told that we would have to pay a surplus charge to use the facilities which were in fact, advertised on booking.com in te description of the hotel.
Review 9:The room was really small for 2 people for a four start hotel. We may have liked it more if we stayed fewer days. We actually stayed for 8 nights.
Review 10:The location is beutiful and well maintained. Breakfast was exellent.
Review 11:None of the doors locked and had to wait in the room for 2 hours due to Valuables. Spa was fully booked and was not advised to book in advance Was told the pool needed to be paid for when after investigation the outdoor pool was free. Water to the whole suite was turned off on the Thursday morning - Could not shower, brush teeth etc All in all a very poor experiance
Review 12:Service was a bit hit and miss in the restaurant. Room smelled a bit of drains.
Review 13:Interesting location, good facilities and spar, cheap for a hotel of it's type. Nice little bar with great Tapas.
Review 14:You need a car if you want to visit the surrounding or if you want to have dinner at a local restaurant which is not the restaurant of the hotel. It was not clear which swimming pool we could use, there are 2 small outside pools which we can use for free. Unfortunately, at this time of the year the bar of outside pool area is closed. The receptionist told me about an indoor pool and I thought we could use it but it is part of the thermal centre which we have to pay an extra to use. Moreover we had vouchers for pool towels but did not find where to get them. We thought it was at the outdoor pool but it was at the reception. So at the end we did not have a chance to swim at the hotel, removing one of the only activities to do on site apart from the thermal centre. The coast with nice beaches to swim is anyway at 30min drive from there. The food at the restaurant is not really local, more continental. All in all it was overpriced for what we got.
Review 15:The location: it is a hotel complex looking like a small mountain village with a central place with a terrace to eat, cobble streets, a bar, a garden, an art shop. There are many buildings constituting the Vila thermal and another hotel on site - the thermal hotel with the thermal centre - as well as a factory for monchique mineral water.
Review 16:No advise to book treatments before hand so treatments were fully booked during our stay. We still enjoyed ourselves but felt let down that we couldn't fully indulge
Review 17:Superb setting in lovely building
Review 18:Everything was going wellish, until we were woken at 2.30 am by scratching in the ceiling (some sort of animal/rodent!!!)which continued for entire night, we were wrecked leaving hotel, only staying 1 night as a Special Occasion treat! Still waiting for some comments from management 2 weeks later. Receptionist passed on our grievance and I've EMailed twice.
Review 19:The thermal bad has only three small sauna and a thermal pool with relatively cold water and only daily tickets are available for 15 €
Review 20:nice location and view for our room but not all room have nice view
Review 21:No wifi in hotel room. Restaurant and Hotel are in different buildings. Borh driving and walk are not an good idea if you are in a harry or not in the mood for a walk.
Review 22:Whilst i found bed to be very comfortable, my husband found it too hard. Coffee/tea making facilities would be good. Balcony door didn't work. Call-out resulted in immediate response but it still sqeaked (petty?)
Review 23:Breakfast inside or in the square. Tranquility. View from balcony. Proximity to other restaurants within walking distance. Excellent base for exploring other parts of algarve. Fridge in room very handy. Daily replenishment of bottled water in room
Review 24:Very poor Wifi - none existent, food at 1692 restaurant in the square looked good but average nothing special.
Review 25:Location and accommodation was excellent although we did stay in a suite, a truly beautiful place and good value
Review 26:I really didn't like the hotel where the room was (on the website it was not specified that it is actually a hotel but a resort)
Review 27:I really liked the building where the restaurant is.
Review 28:very rundown room: it felt like staying in a youth hostel, with chipped paint, bathtub in terrible condition. Poor lighting. Very uncomfortable bed. Everything needs upgrading. Poor value for money. Restaurant rather poor
Review 29:Pretty location. Friendly staff
Review 30:The reception is up the road from the hotel. The spa is down the road from the hotel. It would be tough for someone who does not walk with ease to navigate..
Review 31:I liked the clean, newly decorated suite and its glorious view. The bathroom was very modern with a shower with jets going everywhere. The breakfast was delicious. The spa treatments were professional. The spa staff was outstanding.
Review 32:Advertised bicycles, but when we inquired they said they only had one and that the others were in the shop and had been for a long time! The spa was a disappointment, there is only one look warm pool inside and the facility is old and dank. The town of Monchique doesn't offer much., but we we had two really good meals - one just above the caldas and the other in Foe (sp?)
Review 33:A substantial, yet uninspired breakfast. Great seating in the courtyard under the old oak trees.
Review 34:No towels for pool area. Not enough loungers as I have problems getting down to grass level. The bar at pool had run out of beer and could not be rectified It's a lovely location but the hotel need to really get their act together and accommodate their guests The spa was rather tired looking and no water available after massage which was poor especially since after massage u should promote water especially when bottling hall 1 minute from spa
Review 35:The restaurant was good as were view to pool but could do with more signs as how to get to the spa Enjoyed the live music
Review 36:Misrepresented having bicycles. Threadbare towels. Room a bit shabby. Had to hunt for pillows for fold out sofa which was very uncomfortable. Would not recommend this place. Indifferent servicedisappointed
Review 37:Kind of pretty
Review 38:Lack of sun loungers. Had to get your towel on one early as people took them for the day. Coffee not very good. Proper coffee machine needed
Review 39:Excellent location and helpful staff. Relaxing stay. The breakfast buffet was very good.
Review 40:the small bar one of the staff a girl was unhelpful and don't think she knew how to smile only went there once but the rest off the staff were great
Review 41:the location, the spa and the main restaurant
Review 42:Spa closes at 6 so we were unable to see how it is. The rooms are old and the facilities are old.
Review 43:Best part about the entire property is the bar and tapas.
Review 44:That I had to leave....I love coming to thermal!
Review 45:The spa The massage therapist The prices The restaurant The little bar The setting The apples and free water
Review 46:No spa treatments allowed for me as a recovering cancer patient, with the all clear!! I think it was unfortunate that they limit the things you can do without offering an alternative treatment, but was assured by management they would look into it, which I'm confident they will.
Review 47:The location in the hills of Monchique is idyllic. Listening to nature outside our window was mesmerising. The Autumn is a lovely time of year, quieter but all facilities still available. Great stress free location.
Review 48:The lack of hot water in the room, also there was a problem with the toilet flush sometimes! And due to the time of year there was no restaurant choice. As my friend has mobility issues it was disappointing that the spa was so far away.
Review 49:The various treatments available. I had a facial and body massage by Anna! Both were excellent. The staff in both the hotel and spa were very helpful.
Review 50:The resturant food was not really that good , the burger bun was transferred from the resturant to the wine bar so was cold. No where open after ten at night th get a drink
Review 51:Good selection at breakfast ,the wine was great and a good price a bottle , the spa was great a bit of a walk but worth it.
Review 52:Having to come out of the villa to go to the restaurant, not far away, but not nice when it rains, as it did the night we stayed.
Review 53:The decor was lovely and the rooms large and comfortabel.. The restaurant was good for both dinner and breakfast.I asked for the plastic coated mattress cover to be removed. I think these are unnecesary and make you hot. The staff came immediately to change.
Review 54:O'tasca bar staff disinterested. Noise from the spa extraction until 7pm when it's switched off.
Review 55:Location/setting, views, room and very helpful staff at reception. Excellent breakfast and evening meals. Nearby walks.
Review 56:Nothing we couldn't fault it except maybe the coffee but that really is being picky!
Review 57:Everything about this hotel was spot on, it's gentile atmosphere makes it perfect for rest and relaxation. The breakfasts were delicious and we couldn't fault the suppers when we ate in. The absolute antithesis to the Algarve.
Review 58:The staf didn't help. They where friendly but they let us sit on a couch for 15 minutes. We were waiting there because is was raining very hard. We were under the assumption that we had to walk 100+ meters to our room. It turned out to be a 3 meter walk and de the lady at the desk knew this and she didn't say anything. The spa circuit is a joke. You have to pay 15€ extra. This isn't on the booking.com site. If you book with them directly is it free! The spa circuit itself is quite old. At the gym 60% of the equipment doesn't work. And the turkish steamroom smells like a sewer. They told us it was because they couldn't use aroma's because of a special treatment for a special group of customers. But that doesn't have to mean that it should smell like a sewer.
Review 59:The room was very nice. It was a good bed and the bathroom had a bad and was as clean as possible. We had a look out over the courtyard. The atmosphere of the room felt cosy. Skip the local restaurants in de spa area. Drive of walk up the hill and after 500 mter you find the best Italian place, hmmmm.
Review 60:Not very welcoming staff, especially the bar staff. Room was dated with peeling wall paper & broken safe. Wi fi does not work majority of the time so they should not advertise as a service
Review 61:The breakfast, facilities & surroundings were good
Review 62:Restaurant was expensive. Quality of dishes was average. I expected the food to be better. Only facilities to make coffee in the room. Nothing for making tea.
Review 63:The Spa was lovely and the room was spacious and very clean.
Review 64:The actual spa was a bit disappointing could do with an update but very minor fault
Review 65:The tranquil setting so beautiful very relaxing not bothered by traffic or just day visitors very spacious
Review 66:Location (while quiet and seemingly remote in a good sense, it's only 20 minutes drive from a relatively big seaside town of Portimao if you get too bored), scenery, outstanding value for money.
Review 67:Constant noise from the nearby water bottling plant.
Review 68:sub-tropical garden with pool Sumptuous breakfast with home-made jams, freshly baked bread and eggs prepared separately Tranquility of location
Review 69:The bed and the pillows were not very confortable. The room was a litle dated and not very clean when we arrived.
Review 70:The pool area was nice with few people, very calm and relaxing. The breakfast was really good and the location is nice to visit places nearby. The burger in the outside pub was very good.
Review 71:I was primarily given a room at the back and the bottom floor, were the light had to be on all the time. The lighting throughout both in the room and the breakfast area is quite dim making the place a bit dull, better lighting and a splash of colour would enhance the ambience.
Review 72:The area and the the staff .
Review 73:not real SPA, only littel swimmpool
Review 74:Very bad meel the worst i have eating in years .having to pay to use the pool
Review 75:Nice large room and good bed

Review 120:Perfect spot for relaxation Excellent breakfast with even pancakes and Honey
Review 121:the spa pool was not included in the rate, there was a discounted extra charge for guests.
Review 122:we loved the view and the balcony, the bed was large enough for a whole family. The breakfast had a good selection for all tastes.
Review 123:Lack of wall sockets for power. No bacon with eggs for breakfast.
Review 124:Very helpful staff. Old fashioned rooms and furniture but ok. Very few electric wall sockets. Excellent breakfast although no bacon available.
Review 125:The restuarant sercice on the first of 2 nights was very poor. The bath when emptying flooded from the drain up through the floor of the bathroom.
Review 126:The food, location and spa facilities were excellent
Review 127:Needs tea and coffee out of hours or access to make your own. Some staff were grumpy others were delightful.
