Reviews for Hotel New Otani Tokyo the Main
Review 1:Queues for breakfast too long so on our first morning were late eating and not much food left.
Review 2:Comfortable bed and pillows Small but well designed room, allowing seating area Large shower/bath area with good water pressure Beautiful gardens
Review 3:We like it because it is a big hotel, spread over 2 towers, with a lot of activity -- a real part of Tokyo life; others may prefer more reclusion.
Review 4:We go back to the New Otani mainly because of the gorgeous Japanese garden and views (including the 40th floor buffet breakfast restaurant). Location is central, service excellent, rooms are quiet and price is competitive.
Review 5:If you want to be near the subways the hotel is a bit far from the nearest station. You can not walk out of hotel and be near restaurants and shops.
Review 6:Great hotel and room.. very relaxing. Lovely garden and the breakfast was delicious
Review 7:Thin walls....room service food average/so-so...better facilities needed in room for western guests...ie better tea and coffee etc....
Review 8:Nice room...staff helpful....nice gardens.....
Review 9:Requested a king bed, but they could only provide us twin single. Not good for our 20th anniversary! Also requested room with view of the garden. View turned out to be of the roof of the function centre in front of the garden, not of the garden itself. Way too overpriced for what we got.
Review 10:room was clean and spacious
Review 11:If you like 60's style cruise ships, Stephen King films and dated rabbit warrens you'll love this hotel. I think we may have been a bit young for the crowd? styling? atmosphere?
Review 12:Room was great. Beautiful surrounding park. Lots of dining choices.
Review 13:Very expensive room rate, if compares it with the room's decoration which is very poor indeed. The information desk gave me a room in the back side of the hotel and the 4th floor, with a smiling face. They were acting like I am just a foreigner and not aware of these. I payed full of their money but what they gave me nothing.I also did not satisfy your booking service, you never guarantee your clients any hotel's beauties or advantages like having a good view.By the way, I forgot my watch at my room, and informed them immediately, when I was heading to Narita Airport at the hotel's shuttle. So far, the hotel could not find my watch in the room! Fyi.
Review 14:The Hotel's facilities are quite extensive, like restaurants, stores, good access to public transportations and.etc.
Review 15:Stay was excellent, just wish the pillows were softer!
Review 16:Wonderful old school charm. Very grand, stunning gardens and staff were extremely polite and helpful.
Review 17:the pool is not for swimming, just fun, the reception team weren't nice at all and every thing you want you had to pay more.
Review 18:the conciser was very nice.
Review 19:Restaurants were quite expensive compared to local ones (Akasaka). Quite noisy at night, could clearly hear peoples conversations in adjacent rooms and everytime the toilet flushed.
Review 20:Good stay all around. Staff were very helpful and accommodating. Lots of restaurants to choose from. Good location with food and subway close bye.
Review 21:Not atvthe center of Tokyo, although good subway and close stations
Review 22:Great room, attentive service, . very clean, good atmosphere Loved the beautiful garden
Review 23:Food is expensive there. There is no coin laundry.
Review 24:It was really conveniently located. The staff were very helpful. The facility was clean and nice. There was a convenience store in the hotel.
Review 25:Sky bar (Misleading advertisement! This is not a bar, but a restaurant. If you want to have a drink, you cannot sit in the rotating part!Frustrating) spa (I booked this hotel because of the spa! There are 2 ofthem. Chaotic. Very expensive without any reason. Frustrating again).Breakfast (Primitive and extremely expensive! So are the otherrestaurants as well.) garden (Wonderful view, but no way to sit on aterrace. The whole hotel gives a feeling of being in a big prison. Therefore the garden is useless.) if this is what one is looking for, Ido not recommend this hotel!
Review 26:High standard hotel. Good spacious room. There is a cigar lounge. Veryfriendly staff. Good location.
Review 27:We were told on 4 different occasions that we had a breakfast included but when we checked out, we were charged for breakfast. I contested it but was told the morning shift had already left and they could not confirm the "complimentary" breakfast, so they charged me the 6652 yen for a bowl of fruit, toast, coffee, & scrambled eggs, sausage, toast, coffee....so, that is around $57 USD for a small breakfast! Never would have eaten breakfast in their restaurant if it was not included in the booked rate.
Review 28:Nice staff, clean rooms, comfortable beds, close to train station
Review 29:The Japanese gardens on site. The 20 plus restaurant choices within the three hotel building complex. Great room, great bathroom., great lighting. Super service. One of the best hotels ever.
Review 30:The prices in the restaurants are outrageous--clearly geared toward businesspeople on expense accounts! Even a cup of coffee was absurdly expensive, NYC style. But there are more than enough other places to eat within walking distance.
Review 31:The staff is wonderful and speaks very good English. We had a beautiful view out a huge window, overlooking Tokyo and the hotel's gardens, and even a view of Mt. Fuji in the distance. Very clean and well run.
Review 32:Very soft bed, but others may like that. Lack of English speaking TV channels.
Review 33:Excellent WiFi. Helpful front desk staff. Short walk to Metro stations. Many great restaurants in local area. Beautiful gardens.
Review 34:Beds were not great, or maybe mine is just too soft at home:)
Review 35:Staff were great, couldn't do enough for you. The view over Tokyo was just what we were after. So many places to eat 3min walk away. Would stay again...
Review 36:Quality of food served restaurants and especially in room delivery was very low, and it was unacceptable for a hotel of this category.
Review 37:Location and variety of shops
Review 38:Having the FIRST words (BEFORE 'Welcome to the New Otani') out of the desk clerks mouth be 'our check in time is 3pm but I'll check if your room is ready').
Review 39:It's a familiar hotel to me (I've stayed there many times) so consistent Location near Akasaka is perfect for further ventures afield
Review 40:Room is clean but is a little bit old. Need to wallk a long slope from the subway to reach the hotel. To go to the hotel room, need to take two escalators to reach the room. It is a long way if someone is carrying a luggage .
Review 41:Hotel is close to a subway station. lots of good restaurants and shops around .
Review 42:Beds were a little in the firm side and the restaurants were a little expensive for our tastes but the quality and service was excellent.
Review 43:Staff were fantastic! Very friendly and helpfull. Excellently presented hotel with great facilities. Short walk to the Metro to gain access to anywhere in Toyko. Highly recommended
Review 44:In hotel dining options are ridiculously expensive. Walk 3 minutes to Asakasa and you can find multiple equally good or better dining options for a fraction of the price.
Review 45:Rooms are spacious, usual good facilities for a 4-5 star hotel.
Review 46:Nothing.
Review 47:Everything. The staff were amazing, the room was excellent, the hotel was immaculate and the price was very reasonable. Close to transport as well which made going out and about very easy.
Review 48:The Executive lounge closes at 10pm, a little bit later would have been nice.
Review 49:We stayed in the Executive House Zen, the free food & drinks of the lounge are great. The view from the lounge and the room was fantastic. We also had free access to one of the work out rooms, which is usually not the case in the hotels in Japan.
Review 50:Stayed at the Zen executive level. Received excellent service from the staff at the Zen lounge on level 11. Short walk to the Tokyo Metro station with easy excess to anywhere in Tokyo. Lovely gardens around the hotel.
Review 51:When I am in an executive room and pay an adequate price I dislike it if the bottles of the complimentary water are counted: "one bottle per day and per guest". I missed a plug for my phone at my bed or at the work table which in a way did not even exist as such. I had to put in the password for the Wi-Fi every day new, a little annoying. That I could use the spa for free only until 10:00 a.m. also seemed not quite generous.
Review 52:Everything, every aspect is almost perfect.
Review 53:The prix fixe early dinner in the Satsuki, the mushroom soup was excellent but served tongue burring hot. The grilled pork was overcooked. The strawberry shortcake from Patisserie Satsuki was wonderful. I was seated outside the normal dining area and felt like I was in the kitchen with the noise. The waiter never checked on my table with long times between plates. For the check, he chased me after I got tired of waiting and went to pay at the front. Probably, not a place worth returning given the options in the New Otani Hotel. Unfortunate. The 17th Floor Bar had the same service. Best to go across the street to enjoy the experience in the nearby restaurants.
Review 54:The room was very comfortable with a large window and chairs to look at the city; a nicely placed wall separated the bathroom/closet from the bed area. The hotel garden and grounds are an amazing retreat from the confines of the Tokyo crowds.
Review 55:We cannot think of anything we didn't like.
Review 56:Everything was excellent from friendly, professional reception, quality of room and in-house buffet. The location permitted us to walk to many varied venues. There is no question but that we will recommend the hotel to family and friends and would return should we visit Tokyo again.
Review 57:It is a huge hotel so it is very very busy . and you need to walk a lot .
Review 58:the location. The rooms at the main building are spacious and very comfortable.
Review 59:the service at SKY buffet. the furniture in our room: the sofa's leather is peeling and outdated, this also includes coffee table, desk and beds.....
Review 60:House keeping, hotel front desk and staff.
Review 61:The price is absolutely too high for the services offered. At least the breakfast should be included and the view should be much much better. Rooms clean but quite old style. Again too much for te price.
Review 62:The building is very nice of course and the rooms are very big which is something quite rare in Japan.
Review 63:It was our most expensive hotel on the trip. The price to use the pool and to eat breakfast was about $30/person each. So didn't do either. Our room in the Tower faced Akasaka-Mitsuke which was just a view of buildings and roads. The other side of the hall overlooked the beautiful New Otani gardens. I wish we had been on that side of the hallway. The closest laundry is not really walking distance, so we didn't use it.
Review 64:Airport Bus from Narita airport takes you right to the New Otani entrance - it was the 3rd stop on their route. The room was large for the 3 of us. It had a small table for us to eat breakfast in the room, and the TV had a couple of English language stations. Room had 2 sinks which was nice. Beds were firm. Curtains made the room dark. Close walking to Akasaka-Mitsuke subway station. Many restaurants in A-K area as well as a Citibank ATM. Hotel staff speaks English. I offered to tip the bellhop but she refused tip. Not in the heart of areas to visit, but A-K is very clean and not as crowded as other areas (like Shibuya & Ueno). The wifi worked in our room even with 3 iPhones and an iPad. The garden is very nice. I'm glad we stayed here for the first nights of our Japan trip. We bought breakfast stuff (yogurt, bread, juice) at the mini-mart in A-K.
Review 65:Wifi its a must and should be available in rooms too. Concierge service staff should be a bit more expirienced with english speaking tourists.
Review 66:Excellent service and polite staff. Amazing views of the famous gardens. Value for money for the level of services.
Review 67:The hotel has a reputation of a luxury hotel, but accommodation is at best decent. It is oldish, the mattresses should be replaced, the rooms smell of old (and a bit of tobacco, even though non-smoking). It features a swimming pool, but it is too crowded for one to be able to swim in it.
Review 68:The hotel is well situated, the rooms spatious and with views, and offers the professionality of a 5* hotel.
Review 69:Gym not so good and a few overpriced restaurants in the hotel complex to be avoided.
Review 70:Spacious rooms (connecting if booked well in advance), great views, helpful staff, outdoor pool and gardens, great location, lots of explore.
Review 71:1) Garden rooms need major renovation 2) Don't enjoy buffet breakfast. Too crowd and it was untidy
Review 72:1) location is convenience 2) staffs are polite and helpful
Review 73:The hotel is a bit outdated, as well as the beds. We used the pool once, but it took so long time to get there from the room, so we didn't do it again.
Review 74:Location is perfect! Big rooms. Excellent concierge service.
Review 75:I had to stay an extra night, the hotel couldn't find any solution, and offer me a rate of 500$. As an returning guest, I found it annoying.
Review 76:This is my second time in new otani, the hotel located in a good place, the surroundings including the garden, are very nice and well kept. I do recommend the hotel for business and pleasure.
Review 77:As other have remarked the pool (3000 yen) and the restaurant have rather steep prices. Knowing that we found it had great value for the money.
Review 78:Very helpful staff. Considering the location and the service it is great value for money.
Review 79:the bed was not very comfortable
Review 80:I became quite unwell while I was staying at the hotel, the manger and other staff were fantastic orgainisng translators and doctors. I felt extremely well-cared for.
Review 81:None
Review 82:The staff was very courteous, professional, room smells good, clean sheets all the time. Location was amazing!!! Overall excellence. Will stay in the same hotel when we come back.
Review 83:regular rooms are too small, we had to upgrade to a small suite to be comfortable
Review 84:Location is beautiful, service is great
Review 85:Great service, great facilities
Review 86:We would like a "Sento" bath.
Review 87:Amazing hospitality, location, atmosphere.
Review 88:We loved the room, space, comfort. All the amenities is the hotel. Options of the restaurants.
Review 89:No gym in the price included. Overpriced breakfast. Interior would require some touch up.
Review 90:Location.
Review 91:Lots of restaurant choices. Beautiful Garden.
Review 92:Breakfast quality varies upon restaurants. Expensive stay overall.
