Reviews for Hotel Metropolitan Tokyo Ikebukuro
Review 1:Unstable WI-fi in the room.standard double room a bit small.
Review 2:The strategic location in Ikebukuro: close vicinity to many restaurants, major department stores like Lumine, Tobu and Seibu, and also the Metropolitan Theatre. The arts and shopping all in one neighbourhood!
Review 3:Bed is kinda stiff, I had to adjust to it for the first few days. The rooms are small but that didn't bother me, the problem was the size affected the layout of the bathtub (not pressed against the wall, and shower curtain did not cover completely); every time it was used, water would spill all over the floor. But then again, this was taking a shower, if you did a traditional Japanese bath, this wont happen.
Review 4:Very friendly staff (they all speak english!), nice decor, interior all very presentable. Location is VERY convenient. Bakery and restaurants located within building. Staff will assist in escorting you during check in as well as check out with moving luggage onto shuttle. Airport Limousine goes straight to and from this hotel.
Review 5:Our room did not match the ones in their photo shoots. There wasn't anything wrong with it, but it was smaller and less luxurious than we were expecting. The hotel restaurants were priced higher than we thought they were worth.
Review 6:My husband and I stayed here and loved the location. It is really close to the train station, shopping, and restaurants. The staff also lent us scissors at no cost when we needed to make a footwear alteration.
Review 7:Check-in strictly after 15:00.
Review 8:We got a recently furnished room in very good condition. We booked a small room, but the size was still OK even according to European standards. Excellent location close to Ikebukuro station. Direct bus access between Airport and Hotel. Supermarkets and restaurants are next to the hotel.
Review 9:Very nice hotel located next to a major JR train station allowing you access to all of Tokyo with ease. Rooms are cozy but very clean and staff is very helpful and polite.
Review 10:We will stay in this hotel when we visited Tokyo. We had spacious room with 2 bigger beds for 3 persons for our past stays but this recent one of 5 days, a small room with 2 single and add-on bed given instead which we found crowded and discomfort.
Review 11:Good location surrounded with shopping malls. Hotel is nearby to train station.
Review 12:The room is smaller than our expectation. However, based reviews of other hotels, this hotel offers reasonable room size. Maybe, space is very expensive in Tokyo.
Review 13:Hotel is on the west side of train station. Shops and restaurants are on the east side of train station. Walking distance for shopping and food, without too much noise. I really like the little bakery at hotel lobby. Airpot bus pick up and drop off in front of lobby. Very convenient!
Review 14:Very happy this time staying at higher floor. Bad experiences twice staying at level 4 or lower near to the church side. Couldn't sleep at all due to loud pounding sound during late night. Please request for high floor should I book the hotel through you. Have stayed in this hotel 5 times already.
Review 15:Great location with full facilities. 5 mins walk to train station, dept store and supermarket. Need not really have to queue up for food at restaurants and cafes in the vicinity. Courteous and helpful staff at the hotel.
Review 16:The room is tight for 3 adults but roomy for 2. We had brought our mature daughter in our second stay here.
Review 17:Very good location. Just 150 meters from the Ikebukuro subway exit.
Review 18:There's not much to dislike - at most, they didn't have any complimentary packs of instant coffee, which is barely an issue since a convenience shop literally sits across one entrance of the hotel.
Review 19:The staff were amazing in service - most could speak sufficient English, and took any requests very seriously and courteously! I would personally love to stay with the hotel again in the coming future. Additionally, the wi-fi service is pretty good - it seems like they've improved it significantly since older reviews made on this website.
Review 20:Just that the room is too small and the pillows are too soft.Had a neckache after waking up everyday.Wall was not soundproof could hear my girls laughing from next room.Overall stay was good.
Review 21:Friendly and attentive staff. Location was less than 5 mins walk to Subway,Jr line.
Review 22:I was charged different rates compared to the rate that was published in Booking.com website. For certain days the rates were increased significantly because those were Fridays and weekend. The front desk told me they do not honour the rates I booked with Booking.com.
Review 23:The proximity to Ikebukuro station is a plus.
Review 24:My room was not the room I booked. Booked a queen superior and ended up with a standard queen on the corner of the building with about 4 square meters on floor space and no desk. Not great when you are on a business trip and need a desk to work on your laptop.
Review 25:Very good location for easy transit and restaurants.
Review 26:The staff lady served us very warmly and proccessed the check-out super fast even if it was 4am. In-room massage price seemed to be very reasonable though we didn't get time to try it.
Review 27:When I checked in, the hotel charge me a pre-authorization amount that was 15% more than the total I was going to pay for my stay. When I checked out they cancel the pre-authorization but that messed up my credit card limit, I had to call my bank to fix it. This was annoying and unnecessary.
Review 28:I stayed in room 2114. The set up was funny. In short, one could bump one's head easily with the way the baggage rack and water-kettle table was set up. And it was supposed to be a superior room. Not good value at all.
Review 29:friendly staff, perfect location!!the hotel is nearby the Ikebokuro station but is in a reasonable distance away from the noisy streets. The room is reasonably big.
Review 30:We were not able to pay by visa on arrival. Had to use a mastercard initially and the payt was to be cancelled on checking out -then we could pay by visa. We are still waiting for the refund on mastercard to be cleared 4 weeks after our stay. Not at all happy about this situation as it tied up the amount paid on mastercard from that point forward until now. Surely an International hotel should have accepted visa payment on our arrival like everywhere else we have stayed.
Review 31:Excellent value for my money. Friendly staff, clean environment, convenient location, comfortable rooms, fast wifi. Shuttle bus goes directly to/from airport. I'd recommend this to anyone wanting to stay in Tokyo.
Review 32:Convenient location: No need to walk to the limousine bus stop, as it comes to the front door of the hotel; very close to Ikebukuro Train station; Supermarket and Food stores in the basement of Tobu Department Store; many restaurants nearby; convenient stores nearby.
Review 33:Cannot find anything that would fit this category.
Review 34:The best experience for our honeymoon. They upgraded our room and were very kind and helpful through the trip.
Review 35:Terrific location. 5 minute walk to station. Lots of shops, restaurants near the hotel. Staff were very friendly and efficient, spoke excellent english! Special mention to Mr Blatter, very helpful and had lots of tips to make our stay in Tokyo more enjoyable. Thankyou!
Review 36:I did requested for non smoking rooms when I booked in May, unfortunately they gave us smoking rooms when we arrived in November, at the end we make a complained then they only gave us one room non smoking
Review 37:Convenient
Review 38:Great location for the train and local nightlife. The staff was very friendly for my one week stay. The room was clean and comfortable. I hope to stay there again!!
Review 39:small room and nothing you could find in fridge. no swimming pool for kids and for adults you have to pay!!!
Review 40:Good and helpful staff. good location to use jrline or metro.plus enough mc donalds and italian resturant nearby for kids.
Review 41:Our room is spacious and comfortable. Staff are friendly. Hotel is close to the South Exit of Ikebukuro Station, with many restaurants and convenience stores nearby.
Review 42:There was no food in the fridge, at least water would have been nice. And the pillow was uncomfortable.
Review 43:The staff were so nice, helpful, and patient! The room was pretty big for the price. I loved the bathroom :)
Review 44:Check in at 15.00h. TV could have more english speaking channels (it only had CNN). Apart from that, nothing really.
Review 45:Located close to Ikebukuro subway station, with spacious rooms for Japan, and very confortable. The staff was very attentive and nice. Lots of restaurants and shops nearby
Review 46:No complimentary mineral water, no teaspoon.
Review 47:I like the size of the toilet, comfortable, proper vanity top & bath tub. Close proximity to Ikebukuro station, west exit. One of the airport shuttle bus destinations.
Review 48:The room price should be including Gym and Swimming pool , and 12th floor double room not providing any tea bag and instant coffee , but 18th floor have it, its seems a bit unfair.
Review 49:All the staff was very helpful
Review 50:The room is small.
Review 51:The location is very good, it is very closed to shopping malll, ikebukuro station, and you can book shutter bus to airport in the hotel.
Review 52:Very convenient. Just about few minutes walk from metro station. Nearby has Tobu and Seibu department stores. Sure I will stay here again in future.
Review 53:Room has not much storage space for clothes. This may be an issue only if you stay for a long time.
Review 54:Really close to Ikebukuro station. From there you can go everywhere using several train and undergound lines. Lovely neighborhood, with many restaurants and massive shopping malls. Comfortable bathroom. Spectacular view from high floors. Ask for a room having west oriented window and you'll have chances to view Mt. Fuji in clear days (most likely in spring).
Review 55:room size is too small even we booked a triple room for 3 persons, luggages cannot be opened. Though we opened 1 luggage, it blocked all the room and we couldn't walk.
Review 56:bed &location
Review 57:This hotel has an excellent location with airport limousine bus at doorstep along with train station across the road. Restaurants on your doorstep, it has everything at your convenience.
Review 58:Nothing.
Review 59:The location is very convenient. The comfort of the room, clean and very well kept. A special thanks to their guest relations staff Mayumi Okuma and Mariko. They tried their best to help us made reservation to 3 michelin starred restaurants promptly. A big thank you to them, really appreciated it. Will definitely stay with them again the next time when we visit Tokyo.
Review 60:unfortunately we had very bad mannered neighbours (not Japanese!): adults and children we shouting all the time (seems they could not have a normal conversation using an acceptable voice volume) and particularly children we totally out of control: they were running in the corridor from one room to another and jumping on the floor until 1 a.m. We called the reception to complain, but apparently they did nothing - in the end we had to directly complain with these people and ask them to stop. we would have appreciated a more strong action on the hotel management's side to stop this behaviour.
Review 61:modern, western-style hotel, very close to underground Ikebukuro station and Lumina mall. english-speaking personnel.
Review 62:Very convenient for station. Pleasant, friendly staff. Room quite small but comfortable. Plenty of toiletries, clean bed linen and towels. Only ate in restaurant once as so many places to eat round about. Convenient for getting around Tokyo area.
Review 63:We were in a non-smoking room on a non-smoking floor (Level 21) but there was a constant smell of stale cigarette smoke as soon as we got out of the elevator on the floor and in our room. After days trying to figure out how this was possible we realised it was coming through the air conditioning system, so it was obviously being carried from smoking floors throughout the building. It was really gross.
Review 64:The hotel is literally a 5 minute walk from Ikebukuro Station as well as plenty of restaurants and shops! Ikebukuro is on the very central Yamanote Line and so easy to get everywhere of interest around Tokyo. The rooms are small but good for Tokyo standards
Review 65:The 'leisure facilities' were extremely disappointing. I'm always wary of having to pay an additional charge to use them - generally means that it's essentially a private gym operating in the hotel - and so it proved. Gym was packed any time I looked, and it overlooked the pool / hot tub area.
Review 66:Good location. Plenty of restaurants, coffee shops and department stores close by. Also good rail access to almost everywhere via the Yamanote line.
Review 67:Direction provided in the internet is not specific. I suggest hotel can be more specific in providing a more accurate direction. For example, instead of West exit at the JR station (which I found out is a longer route to hotel). Hotel can indicate, look for Metroplitan sign/ South exit, walk up the escalator etc. you will see hotel on the right side..(this route is barely 2 mins walk from South exit.
Review 68:Location.
Review 69:They have some policy whereby hotel guests are not allowed to eat food in the hotel lobby. When we brought sandwiches from the nearby convenience store and ate in the hotel lobby while waiting for my family to come down from their hotel room, the staff saw us and was very agitated, waving her hands and telling us not to eat in the lobby.
Review 70:We were given an upgrade to a room on a higher floor. The night view was awesome and room was bigger. The hotel was in a good location, near to the subway station, convenience store and shopping area. The staff were very helpful especially the staff at the reception. They gave us a room upgrade and helped to recommend and make restaurant reservations.
Review 71:The single is a little small. But it has everything I need in the room.
Review 72:Very clean and comfortable room. Location is good. Several shopping malls and a lot of restaurants are within a few minutes walk. Close to subway.
Review 73:Location is great, close to train & subway stations, restaurants, department stores, 24 hour convenience stores, etc. Staff very friendly, rooms a bit small but expected, got in-room safe, complimentary bottled water daily. Very convenient Airport Limousine Bus from the hotel, straight to Haneda or Narita.
Review 74:there seems to be a wifi cap daily.
Review 75:The location was convenient for Ikebukuro. 3 convenience stores close by and the train station is just across as is the department store.
Review 76:We booked a non-smoking room, but none were available so we had to make do with a smoking room that had been deodourised. It was a disappointment at first but we got used to it. Note that they are renovating the elevators so some are out of action. Should be finished in September 2015.
Review 77:Our room was on the 22nd floor and had a great view over busy Ikebukuro. This is a great place to base your visit to Tokyo. The hotel is 2 mins walk from the railway station. The hotel is clean and comfortable with friendly helpful staff.
Review 78:Had to pay an additional 2610 Yen to use the gym facilities which is absolutely ridiculous and not disclosed prior to booking. I chose this hotel over others in the area as it had fitness facilities. Had I known that it would have cost such a ludicrous amount I would have booked another hotel instead. Carpet in our room was also stained and very aged.
Review 79:Location was good and within walking distance to the subway.
Review 80:No complaints.
Review 81:My fourth time at this hotel and it never disappoints. Small but comfortable, well appointed room. Friendly, English speaking staff. Excellent location with easy access to Ikebukuro Station. Restaurants and shopping all within easy walking distance.
Review 82:Very crowded and noisy at hotel lobby when we checked in. Strict check in procedures.
Review 83:Direct access to airport via airport limousine. Staff speaks English and helpful.
Review 84:one of the support staff came to our room to show my friend how to connect to wifi. The hotel building withstood the shakings of a tremor that we experienced shortly after we checked into our room.
Review 85:Nothing at all.
Review 86:Location is very good. Near to convenient stores and the train station. There are many restaurants surrounding the area. Very clean and staff are friendly!
Review 87:Felt impersonal, a bit "industrial" hotel due to so many rooms (25 floors !). The room was small, there was not much space left to move once the 2 suitcases were open.
Review 88:Located 2-mn away from Ikebukuro station so extremely easy to catch the Yamanote line or subways. Loads of restaurants of all kinds around and surrounded by malls. Staff was very helpful and dedicated.
Review 89:the carpet is terrible this time, I think they should care more about their house keeping.
Review 90:excellent location, easy to Kawagoe, that's why I choose here again.
Review 91:First I thought the room was a smoking room, but after switching to another, It seemed the whole hotel smells weird... old in some way.. you get used to it, but...
Review 92:good view very helpful staff
Review 93:Have never before been to a hotel in Japan that was dusty in the room. When we arrived in the room I could smell the dust. I ran my hand on the surfaces and found thick old dust. Complained and they moved us to another room that was the same. The breakfast is very poor for the price. I wanted to print out three pages of boarding passes and I had to go to a room where you have to use a slot machine to use an old computer and keep putting in coins to keep the computer running. Paid over €200 per night and had to pay 20 yen per page to print three piece of paper. If you don't have the correct coins you have to use a converter machine.
Review 94:I'd. stay again anytime please forward any promotions
Review 95:Hotel is close to train station so can easily go anywhere , We went to Kyoto on bullet train and Mt Fuji, Hotel accommodations are very thoughtful. There is an excellent sushi reastsurant on lowere level and across street excellent hamburgers French fries and onion rings
Review 96:Price is just too high for what you get. The restaurants in the hotel as well as the room service is priced through the roof.
Review 97:The hotel staff were very polite and attentive, the rooms was clean and well maintained, the location was very easy to get to.
Review 98:No breakfast. I think with the current price, breakfast should be included.
Review 99:Quite spacious room with bath tub (we could soak in when tired, it's totally a plus). Direct access to Airport Limo Bus.
Review 100:most of the staff can speak English but some weren't too friendly
Review 101:Room was spacious and clean. near to station and shopping mall. price is reasonable for the location and space
Review 102:The price of the room was a little too expensive for such a small room, overall I wouldn't say it was bad, but we expected more with that price.
Review 103:The attitude and helpfulness of the staffs in the hotel
Review 104:Restaurants can be very busy at dinner times and we often found it difficult to get a place at the buffet which was very popular. I suspect the restaurants are used by non-hotel guests so it would have been helpful to have known in advance so we could have booked a table.
Review 105:Excellent location close to Ikebukuro station, all major sites in Tokyo easily accessible by subway or train.
Review 106:No complimentary bottle water for a 4 star hotel. Furnishing a bit outdated.
Review 107:Near to Ikebukuro JR station along JR Yamanote line which is very convenient to most Tokyo attraction (Shinjuku, Shibuya, Ueno) without the need to change line.
Review 108:Staff was helpful and responded to my request immediately. Excellent location, as Airport Limousine bus comes right to the hotel; very close to the food floors in the basement of Tobu Department Store.
Review 109:Everything was more than we expected, we highly recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a great place to stay in a good location, near good transport.
Review 110:Had to pay for wifi. I would have expected free wifi.
Review 111:Great place to stay when travelling with a small baby. Clean comfortable cot provided. Yamamoto JR line was close by & easy to access with stroller.
Review 112:The bathroom, though well appointed, was very cramped. The bed was too short for the average person. The tea and coffee making facilities left much room for improvement. There was no black tea, minimal coffee sachets, no mugs only tiny tea cups, and no cutlery, so after buying our own tea bags and instant coffee, there were no spoons for measuring, nor knives for assisting with food purchased, eg for buttering bread.
Review 113:Hotel is well situated for local transport, modern and clean. The staff spoke enough English to be helpful to the non-Japanese speaker.
Review 114:My husband has trouble with pillows A selection would be helpful.
Review 115:That we were close to every thing Shopping was great. Our friends were able to see us With out to much trouble. We enjoyed cake set too with our friends.
Review 116:Check in is rigid on timing which means a queue when it starts. If you want an early check in it's near impossible. Breakfast queue can be vast when groups are in.
Review 117:Convenience, comfort and consistency are of a high level. The hotel is very well situated nearby the train station. Cleanliness is always very good.
Review 118:The rooms have become considerably smaller, making it very difficult to move around and lay out luggage. A little disappointed with the lack of space. It somehow makes the rooms no different from the cheaper hotels with small rooms in Tokyo.
Review 119:The cleanliness and location.
Review 120:We arrived at 7:30am from an overnight flight from Melbourne - there was absolutely NO way they would allow us to enter our room before 3pm.Very dissapointing as it is a hugeHotel.
Review 121:A lovely Hotel in Tokyo & very comfortable. We had a lovely stay.
Review 122:One of our rooms had very bad smell. My daughter was moved to another room. Staff very efficient in dealing with the problem.
Review 123:Helpful staff, lovely, clean rooms.
Review 124:TV Channel, lack of international channels AC seems to be turned off in the morning, need to open my room door to get fresh air.
Review 125:WiFi, Plasmacluster, Bathroom accessories
Review 126:1. Long queue for breakfast in the morning
Review 127:1. Friendly & helpful staff 2. Clean room. Well furbished bathroom 3. Limousine bus from Narita has a direct connection to the hotel
Review 128:Nees to charge 500 yen for wifi per stay, it's just small amount but if make it free will make guest feel better
Review 129:Location is good, near JR Ikebukuro station and subway station, staffs are friendly and helpful, speak good English
Review 130:No wifi. With the price they charge, and given that it is 4 star hotel, they should made wifi available for free in every guest room.
Review 131:Comfortable, clean rooms. Helpful front desk officers and duty manager. Great location, not too crowded. Easy access from and to airport by airport limo, which stops right at the hotel doorstep. Would definitely stay in this hotel in my next visit to Tokyo.
