Reviews for Argosy Motor Inn

Review 1:No really bad experiences, just quite noisy, which is what l would expect from a country town type motel, where the design of the building has the cars at you doorway. Handy but noisy!

Review 2:Proximity to water, pleasant evening stroll, looking at the various boats, with the children.

Review 3:All was great

Review 4:Very clean comfy rooms, stayed here for the night before heading to Melbourne on the Spirit of Tasmania, so close and convenient. Easy check in, have dinner at the pub, great service and good pub food. We were a group of 3 couples and 3 kids, best kids play area I've ever seen.

Review 5:The menu was good but if your staying 10 nights as we did you quickly run out of choices. My LasagneI tasted more like it had been frozen, was not fresh, barely any sauce to it , mainly pasta layers and was very badly burnt even after I waited 20 minutes for it, the female chef shrugged this off.Xmas lunch was very good value .

Review 6:Staff right throughout the motel were welcoming , friendly and nothing was a bother

Review 7:Very small bathroom.

Review 8:Great access to Spirit of Tassie and highway to Launceston and Hobart. Was fantastic having additional facilities for meals and entertainment on the premises.

Review 9:In Dire need of attention to OH&S re power points, kettle. Basin cracked & brown. No fly screens - bugs an issue. Cracked internal plaster. So bad we took photos - advised staff.

Review 10:Beds were comfortable, shame no double glazing as heavy traffic noise prevented decent sleep.

Review 11:Not enouraged to eat at the attached restaurant by chap at reception & I got the impression that they were not very interested in running the restaurant - therefore I decided that the food turnover would not be very high. heater in room was ineffective - place needs a good paint job - looking tired & run down

Review 12:Location

Review 13:Bathroom had a few trip hazards. No room beside of the bed. No place to sit to watch TV except on the bed.

Review 14:The price of the room was very good. Staff were very friendly. One of the best cooked breakfasts on the trip.

Review 15:A bit remote unless you have a car.

Review 16:Nice size clean room and great staff. Good Bistro attached and Bottle Shop next door. Nice river views from more expensive rooms.

Review 17:Our 2 nights stay at this hotel was just OK. The hotel itself is old and looks very tired. It’s in need of some attention. The staffs were friendly and helpful. Location of the hotel was very good and easy to access. We dined at the hotel’s restaurant on the first night. The food was good. On our first breakfast, we were told they had run out of sausages. One can’t afford to be in a rush because it took quite a while for the food to arrive. Would we stay there again, I doubt it, unless some renovation and tidying up has been carried out.

Review 18:It was a typical motel room but I could not fault it. There was a fridge, microwave, toaster, coffee and tea making facilities, iron and ironing board. There was enough room. It was nothing special but what one would expect from a motel room

Review 19:There was a OHS issue in the dinning area re a cord coming from the salad bar going into a power point that was around a meter away as it was a trip hazard my wife triped on it we Manitoba it to the dark haired waitress and she stated that she would pass it on to management we sat and had our meal and were in the area for over a hour and nothing was done to rectify the issue We then mention it to the redemption is the next morning and found out that nothing had been said etc but the lady assured me that she would get some one to look at it the wording part is that it was so obvious that it should have been fixed but it appeared that it had been like it for a while

Review 20:The staff were very friendly and informative. We had an excellent meal at the restaurant. The room could do with an update, especially the bathroom, but was quite all right for the two nights we stayed in Devonport.

Review 21:Pillows were awful but at least the bed was comfy.

Review 22:Comfy bed. Great standard motel. Good heating. Good location for us. Really happy overall...would just benefit from better pillows.

Review 23:Unusual TV-Video setup with no 'how to' info, but quickly taken care of by staff.

Review 24:Friendly helpful staff. View of the Mersey from balcony. Generous size of the unit. Fresh milk provided.

Review 25:our last stay had noisey people staying below us very loud all night other then that we will stay again

Review 26:great location frendly people and the resturant ajoing was lovly place to relax and the meals are awsome

Review 27:Basic motel room, clean and tidy. Older style not suited for someone that has high standards but if you are just looking for somewhere to sleep that is clean and reasonably comfortable I think that it is value for money.

Review 28:Only one reception staff to deal with a lot of check-ins from the ship, and the tavern on the property could do with a green vegetable or two.

Review 29:Finding this motel, from the Spirit of Tasmania was easy. A great place to stay after a huge day at sea.

Review 30:room 33 is in need of immediate renovation - perhaps this block is also in similar condition?

Review 31:excellent location re Ferry terminal Room 12 was excellent

Review 32:On the first night's stay, the room was not set up properly. No shower curtain or floor mat for the bathroom. Lots of little things missing. This was rectified on the second night. (without asking). Lots of road noise.

Review 33:Convenient

Review 34:My first night at the Argosy motor inn was an extremely uncomfortable one, as it was a very cold night and the air conditioner would only blow cold air. This forced me to turn on the electric blanket and get into bed too try and stay warm.

Review 35:The stay at Argosy was made pleasant by the staff, who put themselves out to try and make the guests feel comfortable. The breakfasts supplied were very good and were well worth the cost.

Review 36:The hotel was very happy to arrange the later details of my trip after I had booked. The staff were friendly and very helpful in all areas: reception, bistro and breakfast room. The food was excellent and well-priced. The room was very clean, comfortable and pleasant. The hotel had a very safe feel to it with excellent lighting. The Argosy had good facilities which were very clean and well-maintained. It was a hotel both my brother and I would recommend to others and would certainly stay at again. It was a very good value and maintained high standards for the traveller.

Review 37:See above.

Review 38:Like all other Tasmania locations apart from Launceston the WiFi was slow or non existent. Used hot spot on phone when there was mobile reception which was very spotty around Tasmania too. There were times when we had no communications with our families for 2-3 days. But whether that is a problem at the motel or state wide I am not sure.

Review 39:An extremely comfortable 2 nights, Clean, comfortable and accessible units. Lovely and cosy during very cold weather. Only minor complaint was going into a cold bathroom which needed to have the windows open to let the steam out. An exhaust fan would have been better.

Review 40:I wanted to arrange late check out as ship leaving at 7pm but they wanted full day extra to check out at 5pm :(

Review 41:Bistro meals in bar/lounge EXCELLENT comfy bed Great heating on cold night

Review 42:arrived after a long delayed trip on the Spirit of Tasmania. Staff were very helpful even offering for tea to be made for us all at the pub next door even though it was well past 8pm. Bed was comfy and freewifi was very quick.

Review 43:Unfriendly breakfast staff. We purchased a breakfast the night before and were charged extra when we helped ourselves to cereal and milk which apparently were not included, but there was no one in the dining room when we entered. When the single kitchen person came to take our order they bluntly explained that we should not have taken the cereal and would have to pay extra.

Review 44:Friendly helpful reception staff

Review 45:The heat pump was not working in first room, but I was happily moved. This a basic motel, the food is cheap and cheerful.

Review 46:Friendly, helpful staff. A good room rate and Seniors' Card discount as well. Location is excellent if you are meeting people on the Spirit of Tasmania.

Review 47:Only one small issue, the fridge had a loose element on the back of it and it intermittently would rattle, which when you are trying to sleep was not good. But I did tell them and hopefully it will be fixed.

Review 48:This is the second time we have stayed here and we like it. Nice comfy room and the staff are friendly and helpful.

Review 49:Movie channels not working and a little noisy from door closing.

Review 50:Comfortable. As a short stopover. Kitchen facilities i.e toaster, microwave, fridge and dishes/cutlery a bonus .

Review 51:Motel is dated spouting leaks in rain Room was average but the Bathroom was showing it's age no exhaust fan , no door on toilet floor was sticky to walk on window in Bathroom sticks Microwave supplied but only cups and saucers no crockery if you heat up food

Review 52:Location to Spirit of Tas Restaurant attached to motel was convienient, food was OK

Review 53:Not enough staff to cater for busy times.

Review 54:Quiet room, everything and more that you need is available. Beds comfortable and clean. Large room. Great breakfast. Car parking outside your room. Close to Ferry terminal.

Review 55:The photos of the room on. The internet that I booked ..was not the room e We were giving ..false bookings . Why show the room I booked and not get it

Review 56:The resteraunt was very good with the menue

Review 57:The beds were comfortable and the facilities clean. The close proximity of the restaurant with delicious meals made the stay more enjoyable. The staff were very friendly and efficient.

Review 58:External stairs very steep & narrow. Would be difficult in wet weather. Saturday night in the adjoining bistro was unbelievably crowded & noisy with very long waits for very average food. Much better places close by to eat. If not travelling by ferry, would definitely give Argosy a miss.

Review 59:Superior room, very roomy/comfortable. 2nd floor with views up & down the river. About 1 km to the ferry terminal------convenient if travelling to the mainland.

Review 60:It is tired, went to eat in bistro and left - not very inviting. Curtains didn't run on track properly.

Review 61:An exceptional amount of room in unit. It was quiet given just near highway. Free wifi.

Review 62:We stayed in an executive room which was nice and large facing the road which was a bit noisy at times but it didn't stop us from having a good night sleep.

Review 63:It was very convenient location, only about 2 minutes from the Spirit of Tasmania. It was excellent value for money. We stayed there at the end of our trip as well.

Review 64:The bathroom was old and in need of repairs. There were ants everywhere, so food had to be stored away. No allocated parking big 4 X4 kept parking at doorway.

Review 65:Large room, with microwave , Location close to shops and Spirit of Tasmania docking.

Review 66:Terrible the food in the bistro. we sent mine back, chicken was well over cooked & dry, veges consisted of beans & corn kernels (obviously frozen bagged veges). Chips were under cooked but soggy too.

Review 67:good value for money, good location, close to spirit of tasmania and the CBD. rooms old but comfortable

Review 68:We were hurried through our meal after waiting for it quite a while. We waited for an inordinate while to be served at the reception desk- only one girl there even though there was a queue of 6 people..

Review 69:Parking was a problem for the unit we were in - 31. Bays need to be defined with clear white lines and marked with room numbers.

Review 70:Convenience to Ferry Terminal, kitchen facilities, room overlooking the river.

Review 71:The motel room was very spacious, clean and quite. Also in close proximity to the City Centre and the Spirit of Tasmania. The motel offered breakfast/dinner facility which was very handy.

Review 72:2 seater couch needed replacing, door lock was hard to use, wouldn't open easily with the key which was hard to remove after finally gaining entry, staff member was advised of this on check out.

Review 73:Room was clean if a little dated, bed was comfortable. Amazing water pressure in the shower. Tasty and reasonably priced cooked breakfast.

Review 74:After a long trip on the Spirit of Tasmania it was good that it was close to port. Meals were good sizes and delicious. Everyone was most helpful. Rooms were of a high standard.

Review 75:The location was great for boarding the Spirit of Tasmania, however the rooms facing the road were very very noisy with passing traffic throughout the night and the train. Perhaps the rooms away from the roadside would be much quieter. We didn't take advantage of the free wifi so can't comment on its performance.

Review 76:The room was large and clean. Facilities included a bar fridge, tea making items and a toaster. The Argosy bar and bistro served a good variety of meals at reasonable prices and seemed popular with guests and locals.

Review 77:The fittings were old, a small step down into the bathroom a problem for a disabled person. Needs a complete refit. Not enough room to move around the bed.

Review 78:Location and ease of access to the Ferry and the City.

Review 79:The service from the staff who were friendly and helpful was excellent. The food was great and we would not hesitate to recommend to anyone else to stay there, especially if they were travelling on the Spirit of Tasmania as the location is perfect.

Review 80:The toilet and bathroom echoed into the bedroom which was at times annoying. A door from the bedroom into the hall where the toilet and bathroom were would be good. The view from our room was of an old trailer with junk in it, a shed and a clothesline.

Review 81:The room was very clean and the TV had inhouse movies. The staff were very friendly and helpful.

Review 82:Traffic noise parking bays not corresponding with unit number

Review 83:Proximity to the wharf (our arrival was by ship) and highway (brought our car across). Eating at the restaurant no hassle Easy to settle in for the night and early departure for our holiday.

Review 84:Rather noisy early in morning due to location near main roads and ferry terminal.

Review 85:Location and integration of motel, restaurant and entertainment areas.

Review 86:Near the main road. Noisy during night time.

Review 87:Spacious room and near the ferry terminal. Staff very helpful. I cannot carry my luggage upstairs. The receptionist girl carry the 20++kg bag.

Review 88:The Argosy was a welcome visit after our long boat ride on the Spirit of Tasmania. It was very closely situated and the staff showed high levels of customer service. It was the first time we stayed at the hotel and I would recommend to any weary traveler if they are after great accommodation of comfort, a perfect nights sleep and amazing food at the attached local restaurant.

Review 89:It was difficult for my mother-in-law to get into her room, but that was probably our fault as we didn't specify that she was somewhat disabled.

Review 90:The Argosy was an excellent hotel for what we wanted after spending Christmas day at a family function.

Review 91:Bathroom needs an urgent upgrade. Shower over bath and old fashion look looks dirty (tiles).

Review 92:Staff were upbeat, bubbly and lovely. Room was very spacious, clean and comfortable.

Review 93:The bathroom facilities were reasonable but tired and would benefit from renovation. The better rooms probably cost more and on a two story block with less traffic noise.

Review 94:The room had all the basics and quality of decoration and floorcoverings reasonably fresh.

Review 95:The toilet and bathroom will do with an upgrade

Review 96:it is close to the ferry terminal which meant we did not have to travel far to check in and settle the two infants for the night. The restaurant staff were very helpful and friendly.

Review 97:Reception staff very rude. Off milk and they said that was how ash groves milk is. Being a chef, I now what off milk looks like and smells like and was chunky. Don't get a room on the main road with transport constantly roaring by especially when the boat gets in, early in the morning. Very dirty, dated, old and run down.

Review 98:Mixed grill in their restaurant

Review 99:Too close to the freeway, dingy bathroom with filthy grout - desperately needs an upgrade, sandwiched between a pub and a bottle shop. Definitely a trucker stop.

Review 100:The free movie channels in the room

Review 101:Internet in the room in a myth. You can go down to the bar or restaurant, but you cannot connect from your room as they advertise.

Review 102:Associated with the hotel is their restaurant. The food there is very good and the dining area over looks the bay. The rooms are very nice.

Review 103:Rooms a nice but bathroom is a bit tired needs to be updated

Review 104:This hotel was quite comfortable, and had the bistro for dinner and breakfast available as well for a reasonable cost.

Review 105:The taps in the shower were very hard to turn on and off I think needs new washers, no bowls or desert spoons in the crockery line

Review 106:value for money.and having the bistro close was good.

Review 107:executive room spa didn't work and in wrong place could easly fall in if going to toilet. balcony atrea open to all on that level reducing privacy

Review 108:location eating and gaming facilities

Review 109:spa hadn,t been used in a while and sent dirt and oily substance out when switched on. Rooms came on special while we were there but we were still charged booking price a difference of $25 p.n. Rooms could do with a make over very out of date.

Review 110:To come back to a cleaned room. Having coffee on the balcony after a long day.

Review 111:Bathroom and toilet windows fixed in open position, thus can't keep heat in bathroom.

Review 112:Location, value - I stayed a second night Did not eat meals there, so cannot comment.

Review 113:We did not find anything to dislike.

Review 114:Convenient location the staff were very pleasant. The onsite Hotel was a good place to spend an evening and enjoy a meal and chat with the locals.

Review 115:The shower was hideous and the hand basins were cracked n dirty looking. Food in the bistro was very average and inconsistent. Restaurant prices but really just overpriced pub food in a mass market setting. Tables only set for large groups.

Review 116:The size of the suite was generous

Review 117:The price we paid for an online booking which was $95.00,only to discover when we arrived they advertised $85.00 per night. We asked they said because we booked online it was dearer.

Review 118:Room was a little small and an extra chair and table would have been good.

Review 119:We enjoyed our 3 night stay. The staff were very helpful, meals in the bistro were lovely. Bed extremely comfortable. It was great to have a microwave and toaster in the room

Review 120:very convenient for travel to ferry

Review 121:Room was clean comfortable and staff were helpful and friendly.

Review 122:Close to ferry terminal? Rooms older but very clean and serviceable. Close to freeway exit

Review 123:Location (ferry) and good place to begin walks and bike riding.

Review 124:Small room

Review 125:Locality. restaurant facility

Review 126:One chair in the room for two people

Review 127:Food was over cooked. We arrived late so probably got warmed up pre-cooked meals but at restaurant prices not what we expected

Review 128:Easy to locate from Spirit of Tasmania. Easy, no fuss breakfast the next morning
