Reviews for Historic Plains Hotel

Review 1:On our first visit the room faced an alley, we could not get the heater to work, power cords & plugbars under the desk were crazy....all over the place and seemed in violation of fire code regulations. Dead end hallway made us feel unsafe. NO functioning lighting in closet. It was really bad...but is one of the rooms that has not yet been refurbished is our assumption. They upgraded us to the suite for our return visit to avoid a cancellation.

Review 2:I like the retro look and sense of old world shabbiness. We stayed overnight coming and going from our destination and the first room was a disaster. The suite on our return was wonderful. Bright, clean, well-appointed & equipped and spacious. It was convenient to locate and to our main route exit and entrance. Restaurant had delicious food AND good pricing.

Review 3:Horrible service in the restaurant both at dinner and breakfast the next morning. Someone should teach the breakfast cook how to make oatmeal. Wasn't able to access Wi-Fi either.

Review 4:Clean room, great bed. Excellent location to my reason to be in Cheyenne.

Review 5:Extended Parking is only available 2 blocks away. Sink had no running water, hot or cold. Had to use the bathtub for water to wash-up.

Review 6:In town to meet family at the Train Depot, Plains was right across the street.

Review 7:Historic! This hotel is pre-historic! You need to park on the street or Off-Sight. Do you think the girl at the front desk would provide a map or even good directions to the free city parking area. We are still waiting for breakfast. I left to shower and get on the road. My wife put 5.00 on the table for coffee and tea and then walked out. The elevator is so small I would not ride in it Took the stairs a lot. Good conditioning. Find another alternative in Cheyenne.

Review 8:Location....EXCEPT PARKING

Review 9:room was very dark and not very welcoming. There was a cockroach crawling on the wall next to us while we had dinner. The waiter had to go across the street to get wine for our dinner.

Review 10:historic

Review 11:Our room was very gloomy, I believe lower floors are being renovated and it would have been nice to have been offered one of these. I appreciate the lift is probably of another era but I was always glad to get out of it!

Review 12:the location was very good, right opposite the Depot and Museum. It was good to stay in a hotel with some history but we had to ask for a leaflet about it. the leaflet however was very informative.

Review 13:Hotel room was small and hot, air unit did not cool the room well. Hole in the wall of room covered poorly. Windows in room did not close all the way. Old historic hotel that needs some work.

Review 14:No parking. Unfriendly staff TV reception was lousy. Nothing in the rooms to inform you of what was available and where to find things such as ice. Stool on bathroom had not been flushed.

Review 15:Being an old building. Very nicely preserved

Review 16:the washbasin in the bathroom was very cracked and should have been changed. I was also surprised to find there was no hairdyrer

Review 17:Our room was changed to a suite after our complaint about the washbasin, so plus marks for that

Review 18:The A/C in the room was quite old and cycled on and off constantly, while providing very little cool air. Fortunately, it was not a hot day when we were there. Also, some of the amenities were very old - tub/shower needed upgrading and it took forever to get hot water.

Review 19:The staff, with the exception of one person at the registration desk, was excellent. Very helpful. The prices in the restaurant and bar were very fair and the food was quite good.

Review 20:Nothing.

Review 21:Nice historic hotel with central location. Things to see and do within walking distance. It's an old hotel so you expect things to look old when you book it. That's the charm of historic hotels.

Review 22:They gave me a room already in use by someone else, complained about in organization in front of me, change to a lower grade room without any discount or warning. VERY BADLY MANAGED _ if your stress level is high, really not recommended !

Review 23:Historic and downtow

Review 24:on arrival the desk staff did not appear to have our reservation which had been booked months before, however I had a copy of the booking with me which I gave to them and then they gave us a room . Elevator is tiny and slow we ended up carrying our bags down the stairs on check out it just would not come. The room itself was shabby , the window which was frosted with wire mesh in the glass looked onto other windows and noisy aircon units not at all nice. The bathroom was very old obviously original but unfortunately not pleasant , cracked tiles stained bath , stained towels and we never used the shower one look at the shower head put me right off . The location is good and we were lucky to park outside but I would not have been happy to park further away. This hotel needs a lot of money spending on it to bring it up to a good level it's such a shame as it could be lovely.

Review 25:Location

Review 26:The elevator was very small, and only one in the hotel. The room that we had was very small, the cart that we had with our luggage on could not fit in the doorway of our room so we had to leave in the hallway to offload the luggage.

Review 27:The lobby was nice, the restaurant was nice and the location was easy to get to.

Review 28:Could hear EVERY noise from outside and people upstairs (traffic, creaky floor boards, etc.) No laundry facilities, no breakfast Phone wasn't even plugged in Bathroom stained, rusty Parking lot was blocks away, so we had to unload everything at the door Not a huge deal, but no staff ever offered to help

Review 29:Within walking distance of good food Historic downtown location Housekeeping staff very friendly Interesting decor Downstairs restaurant had good dessert

Review 30:Dirty worn rugs. Old worn out bathroom. Drapes dirty and did not slide. This should not be allowed to operate as a hotel. I can not believe it has a 3 star ratting at bookings. Com

Review 31:Location of hotel

Review 32:Our room didn't have any windows that looked outside. Room and furniture were quite dated, but clean and comfy.

Review 33:The price was good, the place was clean and quite acceptable for a quick overnight.

Review 34:Steve from Florida. Very cool historical building. Clean and comfortable room. Dinner and breakfast at their restaurant was very good. Friendly staff.

Review 35:1. On arrival hotel had 2 rooms booked for us which did not reflect my booking confirmation. 2. hotel charged us a higher rate than rate confirmed but reception staff corrected and gave discount for our bad experience. No manager available to speak to. 3. Emailed hotel during my stay about the room rate but no reply ever received to date 4. room carpet had what looked like wood shavings on floor - couldn't tell if room was clean - lights too dim and bathroom furniture too old and corroded to distinguish. Window frames looked rotten and couldn't open window. The room decor and ambience was not what you would expect for the room rate chargeable. We spent over 3 weeks in numerous hotels across North American and this experience was certainly sub-standard. I know the hotel is upgrading some rooms but the room rate does not reflect the current poor quality. We itched all night! 5. couldn't work out how to use the shower which was decades old (it took staff 20 minutes to go and look at other showers in the hotel to compare and then tell me how to use it - shower head came away from the wall (health & safety issues) 6. One unwrapped polystyrene cup provided for coffee for 2 people 7. bath towels threadbare 8. On street parking or hotel has a car park some distance from the hotel

Review 36:location is great but parking facilities poor. The hotel lobby is lovely and presents a history of the hotel.

Review 37:Room keys/cards problematic; had to get them redone twice and even then chancy. Parking a real problem. We lucked out with on-street parking, but the lack of on-site or very near on-site parking would lead us to avoid the hotel in the future. Very small/aged elevator. Location a plus, but traffic noise of major thoroughfare under the window is a a negative. Pillows too soft - no real support for head.

Review 38:Location is excellent. Restaurant/coffee shop good. Nice, helpful staff at desk and restaurant. (But, desk person didn't insure that lobby computer - for boarding passes, etc. - was operating correctly.)

Review 39:Shabby. Tiny elevator. Rough neighborhood lots of bars around. Stained sheets. Tiles missing in bathroom. Old old TV.

Review 40:It's interesting because it's been there since 1911 but I would go in look around and stay somewhere else.

Review 41:The room that we were allocated was very poor. It was very small, at the end of a corridor, and the main window was screened out, so you could not see out, making the room very dark. Hotel parking was two blocks away at a railway siding in an unattended piece of wasteland. We did not use this facility, as it didn't appear safe.

Review 42:Just the location.

Review 43:guest rooms in serious need of an update.

Review 44:great downtown location. very historic.

Review 45:The lack of breakfast

Review 46:Enjoyed the ambience of a historic hotel.

Review 47:Elevator a tad slow, took the stairs instead

Review 48:The oldness and history

Review 49:More gluten free items, especially gluten free pancakes!

Review 50:Waitress was great...good ghost stories excellent service.

Review 51:On street down town parking

Review 52:Ambiance

Review 53:Elevator was out and there was no prior notification or bell service. Should have been notified when booking.

Review 54:Elevator did not work

Review 55:The hotel, restaurant, and staff were very good. Old hotel very nice and well kept maintaining the old charm

Review 56:Elevator

Review 57:Beautiful lobby, nice rooms, great location.

Review 58:No place for parking.

Review 59:No Parking or Valet (they really need Valets.), Very Noisy if you're in a room on the street.

Review 60:Friendly Staff, Cool Rooms

Review 61:Still needs repairs and quality finishing to be a great property.

Review 62:Price was good for a historic property.

Review 63:The restaurant floor was waxed and the next morning it was dangerously slippery.

Review 64:The gentleman that picked up our car was very nice and helpful.

Review 65:Poor quality room with very little natural light. Bathroom in need of updating

Review 66:Really nice central location. The staff was so friendly!

Review 67:Parking was difficult.

Review 68:parking, restaurant, no valet, out-dated room

Review 69:Single slow elevator - but I understand why - old, historic building. Parking was at a premium with the BrewFest and had to use the lot. Expected the front desk to give me something for the dash-board that I was a guest in the hotel, but I was told it was not necessary. Was afraid my car could be towed, if security could not verify I was a hotel guest. Happily, the car was there in the morning.

Review 70:The bar - Troy was very personable, as was Flavia.

Review 71:No coffee/tea in room, though there was a coffee maker, no cup.

Review 72:The central location and closeness to airport, free airport shuttle, and old world feel of the hotel.

Review 73:Parking - unsecured parking resulted in having to replace a slashed tire on the rental car. We were directed to park on the 3rd floor of a municipal parking ramp that was unsecured. Over 6 cars had slashed tires. This needs to be changed.

Review 74:Historical value

Review 75:The microwave in the room on top of a small fridge...while practical and desired by some, this took away from the ambiance of the room. Some mildew patches in the bathroom. NO parking during the week would be problematic...Saturday through Sun a.m. is available on the street.

Review 76:I liked the old time atmosphere and a lot of original building materials, tiles, lighting, even the old elevator. Great tile work, piano in the lobby.

Review 77:I loved the decor of the old building. This isn't a plush hotel, but if you like to stay at a place that has character and local history then this is it. The wood and tile work were very pretty.

Review 78:The parking availability, and having to move the car throughout the day as to not get ticketed. The rooms are dark, and we don't care for the window heating/air units.

Review 79:The restaurant is amazing! We enjoy the historic feeling, and being right downtown and accessible to the I-80. Our kids like getting their pictures taken by the big cowboy boots, and the 'Iron Horse' across the street. It's nice having the family suite with 2 queens and a fold-out for our family.

Review 80:Room was oddly shaped and small, making it hard to get around, howevernot unexpected. Shower took forever to get hot.

Review 81:Loved the historic feel of the hotel. Even the small elevator hadits charm. The restaurant was very good, and the staff friendly.Room was clean.

Review 82:Need for Valet parking, BUT, it was handled quickly and very friendly. it's only drawback is if you forgot something in the car. Not so easy to "run and get it". This would NEVER prevent us from staying again.

Review 83:Everything ....... starting with the staff. Location is great. The history of the hotel is well worth any very MINOR modern inconvenience.

Review 84:The bathroom needs some updates. There were no outlets and the sink was not functioning properly.

Review 85:Authentic historical atmosphere Crossed the street from downtown events.

Review 86:Staff seemed overwhelmed, had problems with everything. After readingother reviews and talking to another guest, this seems to be routine.

Review 87:Historic, funky hotel. Going back in time, with just enough modernamenities. Convenient location.

Review 88:Room was not ready until after 4pm, parking was on street or their lot was 2 blocks away, air conditioner in room had missing air vents, air blew over the head of the bed and could not be redirected, had to turn it off to be able to sleep, tv reception was poor. There was a round table for eating or desk work, but no chair was supplied.

Review 89:The historical aspect.

Review 90:The wireless internet was terrible. It got slightly better once some bandwidth became available, but having reliable internet is absolutely crucial for both business and family travelers. Plains Hotel management: you need to fix this or I probably won't be back. If this is fixed, I'll come back again and again.

Review 91:The Capital Grille was probably the highlight of our stay. It's a delicious restaurant, complimented by the carefully restored decor of this historic hotel. The customer service was very good. Our room was a bit small and outdated, but I felt the historic charm made up for it. The location was also very good; it's right in the middle of downtown surrounded by a lot of good restaurants and shops.

Review 92:Air conditioners were old and needed replaced!!! Why have them, if a person cant turn them on high! There was a sign on one that said, "It will freeze up the air cond. so don't turn on high"! Also you need to replace those old single pane windows with new thermal unit windows!!! Not only will it save you money on heating and air cond. but it will greatly reduce the noise in the rooms by the streets!!!!!

Review 93:Budget-friendly.....and if we didn't have to go to bed early, the celebration across the street looked like fun!

Review 94:The elevator is small, so while the luggage cart, my husband and mom & dad took the elevator, I took the steps - but that was really a good thing that I needed so I shouldn't complain.

Review 95:A wonderful historical hotel with a beautiful foyer and great staff. The bed was comfortable and the old fashion "pink" sink and bathtub were a real charm. I'm glad that Plains decided to retain the historical aspects of the hotel, while still upgrading it for safety and convenience

Review 96:Rooms were tired and noisy - tv did not work, toilet flapper valve hadto be manually adjusted to prevent constant flow

Review 97:The historical significance and authenticity of the property isnoteworthy

Review 98:I slept on clean towels because sheets and pillows were covered instains. Also I had let them know in advance that I would be a latearrival in advance, and they still gave my room away.

Review 99:Front desk didn't tell me the wifi password, after I went down and got it, never did get it to work. Also, Front Desk didn't give me the voucher for breakfast. Had to ask for it and they acted like I putting them out. No apology.

Review 100:Location Historic Hotel

Review 101:Carpet seemed a bit dirty and sink we not in restroom.

Review 102:The decorations and the kind service. Especially loved the old hand written letters framed in the lobby . So much history was very cool.

Review 103:Front desk was having issues with computer. I reserved another night forthe following week. After driving 7.5 hours, confirming with the frontdesk while traveling that we would be late and arriving @ 11.45 pm, myroom was gone. Again, "computer problems". I was put up at aMicrotel. Not what I wanted!

Review 104:Historic and beautiful.

Review 105:The Curtains in the rooms are 8ft long but only 1 ft wide. Window is 4ftwide and deep !! So like it or not, the sun will come into your roomearly am !

Review 106:The History of the Hotel and all it's unique little touches. And itstasty restaurant. There is also a Classic old-style cinema across theroad, with modern surround sound ! ( adults only $2.50 or $3.50 !!).

Review 107:Room was bit stuffy and bathroom small and old fashioned. Very limited eating and drinking options in city centre

Review 108:Location - central to main activities and things to see. Bar was nice and reasonable with passable food

Review 109:Hard to find ice machines. Old and put dated fixtures with purple tub and sink. Small room. Lack of outlets. No hotel map. Not too tech friendly. Elevator tiny and slow since historic.

Review 110:Price. Historic.

Review 111:The staff could not find my reservation. They also cold not find another one for the guest at the next window that also booked thru bookings.com. They accepted my e-mail confirmation. They told me that bookings.com faxed in conformations and that it can "take a while".

Review 112:It's not a castle, but it is historic. It has been updated while maintaining its history. I will come back!

Review 113:Dark room. I don't believe the hotel was full but we were in a room way at the back of the hotel.

Review 114:A must stay to really visit Cheyenne

Review 115:We were given the wrong room than what we had paid for. There wasnt hot water and the room was noisy.

Review 116:The facility, while historic, needs a lot of updating.

Review 117:Loved the quality of the food in the restaurant.

Review 118:Food service poor, food poor also

Review 119:Elevator broken, overall poor condition

Review 120:street side room was too noisy.

Review 121:Location to where I had to work

Review 122:The fact that the hotel has not been spoiled - it still has the old features and it is a great place to stay. It is a bit of history!

Review 123:Hotel did not receive our reservation from you. Luckily we got rooms but not what we had reserved

Review 124:Nice restaurant and mezzanine.

Review 125:All good, no complaints

Review 126:Beautiful old historic hotel , great location, recommended!

Review 127:Hotel did not seem to be in a safe area at night. Room was marginal, at best. Air conditioner was noisy.

Review 128:Complimentary breakfast

Review 129:Rooms were basic, but more than acceptable for the price.

Review 130:Nostalgic feel of the hotel. The lobby is beautiful.

Review 131:no parking without walking

Review 132:nice atmosphere, clean and comfortable rooms, good restaurant
