Reviews for Otsu Prince Hotel

Review 1:However, the carpets were not exactly the cleanest and looked tired. As this hotel obviously caters for large tour groups it can cause congestion in restaurants. Shuttle bus from station to hotel was further than anticipated.

Review 2:Good sized room and facilities with a terrific view from our room over the lake. The restaurant had a good buffet selection for both Japanese and western tastes. Staff as always in Japan are extremely gracious and helpful.

Review 3:The beautiful swimming pool was closed during our stay 1-5 th Oct despite gloriously hot sunny weather as was the pool side dining facilities.

Review 4:The view from the rooms of the lake are stunningly beautiful. The staff were very helpful and hard working

Review 5:Carpet was gross, bathroom had mold, beds were very hard, PLUS the shuttle did not pick us up on the scheduled time/at all one night. By the time you take the shuttle to the station, wait on the JR to Kyoto, it takes a good 45 min from hotel to Kyoto station. The hotel needs some serious updates. ALSO, there are no restaurants near the hotel, unless you eat at the hotel's (which are expensive) I've stayed in hotels around the world, and this ranks as the worst I've ever stayed in - not sure how this got so highly rated.

Review 6:Not very much to like about this hotel.

Review 7:Further away from main station, Transfer train for 2 stops and then wait for shuttle bus. A bit time consuming in getting to main attractions where yo have to get back to main station

Review 8:Great views, Japanese style bed

Review 9:We stayed in a Japanese style room, sleeping on futons which were a fun experience for the family. The Welcome Centre at Kyoto Station was very useful to drop our bags at for a few hours while we explored before going to the hotel (as we arrived after the 2pm cut-off for transfers to the hotel). We used the baggage transfer service on check-out, which gave us another full day sight-seeing in Kyoto without carrying our bags around.

Review 10:Beautiful view from our room at the top. Large room, very comfortable huge beds. We had a very pleasant stay. Walking distance to restaurants and shops, nearby train stop to Mt.Hiei.

Review 11:While there are a few in house restaurants to choose from for dinner, they were all fairly expensive (although they were reasonable for lunch).

Review 12:The staff were very helpful and kind. The room was fantastic, very spacious, comfortable, and a great view. The shuttle service to Otsu station was great and reliable.

Review 13:not much choice for the food inside the hotel, none outside. some restaurants and the bar might be closed for private functions. waiting time for the elevator

Review 14:nice room with a view

Review 15:- very expensive (access to pool 1000 jpy by person, sundeck 1000 by person - we had to pay 4000 jpy just for one hour as it was closing at 5 PM and we arrive late) - french restaurant - food was very good but still overpriced - a bit far from the JR station, had to wait for the taxi to leave next day - expected minibar but it was just empty fridge - a bit strange for this level hotel and it was deluxe room - have to wait to be able to enter the breakfast room as not enough space for all visitors (10-15 minutes waiting), I think breakfast was not on the same level than restaurants, and they should have more space for it

Review 16:- nice view from room, bar and restaurant - big room (31st floor) - nice shop to buy clothes - friendly staff - big outside pool

Review 17:breakfast not included

Review 18:Lake view Room

Review 19:Even non-smoking still have smoke smell. Service not so good.

Review 20:The view is very good.

Review 21:Location and rooms are perfect

Review 22:The bus and bicycle can be provided to customers for a longer time.

Review 23:Feel comfortable and relaxing

Review 24:None

Review 25:I like everything about this hotel. In fact I always choose to stay in this hotel every times I go to Otsu.

Review 26:Location and outskirts

Review 27:TV system. No international channels, obscure remote.

Review 28:View, comfort, value.

Review 29:It's a bit far from the city, and everything nearby closes at 8 pm.

Review 30:The view is amazing. Can't get enough.

Review 31:Remote from business district. No restauruants or shops nearby.

Review 32:Classy hotel. Great views (31st floor)

Review 33:none

Review 34:It was the best choice to stay just a step away from Kyoto by lake Kiwa in Otsu Prince Hotel. Very piecefull with beautifull view of the lake. Big rooms with all facilities. Cycling round the lake is great.

Review 35:The shuttle is every hour it's a bit of a walk and the last one I think is 9 or 9:30 so if you have a late dinner in kyoto be ready to walk about 25 minutes to the hotel ironically it is a lovely walk in the day specially during cherry blossom season. You can get a cab for 800 yen or so

Review 36:Very nice view, big room .. Nice to walk by the lake , ten minutes to the otsu station from kyoto station

Review 37:All I can offer is how wonderful the staff were, but I can't tellyou anything about the hotel because they actually moved us to theirsister hotel in Kyoto, which was a better location for us as travellersintending to visit Kyoto anyway. It's how they did this transferthat was so impressive. The following won't help you with analysingthis hotel but it's a great story to share if you have time. Theyclearly felt very guilty about overbooking their hotel and wereobviously nervous about asking us to move, but they were so good aboutit, and so appreciated our assistance with freeing up a room for them, that they paid for everything, including the 1-hour taxi to the cityhotel, the 2 nights in the room, breakfast that we hadn't originallyordered or planned on having anyway, and a free meal for the firstnight. Not only that but they gave us the biggest room in their entirehotel, which turned out to be what seemed to us as the presidentialsuite. It was massive, it had 2 huge twin rooms, both with their ownbathroom, and in between there was a huge lounge room and also, believeit or not, a board room with a long board table and 10 chairs around it.There was also a small kitchen/bar in the board room. We had floorto ceiling windows across all 4 rooms, with a view of the InternationalConference Centre and the, or at least a, city behind. All for free! Howlucky can you get?

Review 38:Rental bikes low quality and too expensive at 200¥ per hour. Poor English of certain staff

Review 39:Staff very helpful. Excellent location. Very spacious room. Availability of rental bikes. Free shuttle bus to Otsu station

Review 40:Breakfast expensive for what was on offer. Very disappointing. Hotel needs painting, walls badly scuffed and carpets need replacing

Review 41:Good service, great views overlooking the lake, shuttle service a bonus

Review 42:A little old and dated rooms, smokey restaurant / bar.

Review 43:Great views. Not too far - worthwhile to taxi from station (1,500yen). Good access from Kyoto JR (2 express stops). Sensational building.

Review 44:There was absolutely nothing to dislike ~ Highly recommended.

Review 45:What was there not to like. It is simply spectacular, the Staff were simply much more than helpful and friendly. It was a classy Hotel with 5 star facilities. Awesome views with spacious rooms ~ Highly recommended.

Review 46:Smoking is still allowed in bars and some restaurants in Japan.

Review 47:Very friendly and courteous staff. View over Lake Biwa was fanastic. The room was big and clean. Free parking. Top floor Sky Lounge.

Review 48:It took me 45 minutes to get the room for me and our group ( 10 rooms). The trainee at the counter did not understand English at all. I talked to a lady , I couldn't remember her name, a few days before I arrived in Kyoto . She understood what I told her but when I was there, I had to start the process of my booking again. That quite annoyed me. The second thing is the Breakfast room is too samll for the guests, I have to wait 20 minutes to get the table.

Review 49:The cleanliness The view of the room

Review 50:It was a 'tourist-class' hotel with less staff & staff who look like they are used to dealing with coach tour groups. We choose the hotel due to the location, with specatcular views, however we were disappointed with the staff. Also the bathroom floor was not clean initially in the suite, with obvious wee spots around the base of the toilet. The breakfast was very ordinary compared to all the other hotels we stayed at in Japan & not good value for money.

Review 51:We were not asked what sort of room (smoking / non-smoking room) we would like. They gave us a smoking room which we could not have slept in due to the strong smell of smoke. We spoke to the people at reception & they gave us a corner twin bed suite instead, which was very nice.

Review 52:Be careful if booking.com offers breakfast with this room as it may be a mistake. We had breakfast included in the deal but upon arrival we were told that we would have to pay extra for breakfast (which is quite expensive). We finally didn't have to pay extra but were made to feel 'lucky' that we could 'get away with it this time'. A little bit strange as Price or Booking.com made a mistake, not us... Keep in mind this was a small hiccup and the whole stay was very pleasant otherwise. I still recommend this hotel highly.

Review 53:The view is great, the breakfast buffet is big and the room we stayed in was far bigger than a typical hotel room in Japan. We pulled the table and chairs to aim out the window at the lake and sat there being fancy drinking wine and eating cheese and olives in our bath robes...ahhhh...

Review 54:The dirty floors with spots

Review 55:The view was excellent. Bed was clean but the floor had dirty spots. Every thing else was ok no complaint.

Review 56:A bit far from station. Shuttle runs hourly from station. - too far apart.

Review 57:Large room, great view, sky view bar excellant,

Review 58:Spacious rooms and great view of Lake Biwa. The sunrise was fantastic.

Review 59:Nice Staff
