Review 1：Rooms are tired and need upgrading. Not so sure about value for money.

Review 11：Staff and customer service is just terrible. Rooms on ground floor are damp, smelly, full of ants, mould in the bathroom. Restaurant is like a school dinner hall. Whole hotel needs a refurb. All inclusive is encouraged but it's an absolute pain - staff aren't interested as less chance of them getting a tip. You have to sign for everything. Spent 3 days repeating our room number and signing bits of paper. Watersports overpriced and old machines/equipment. Spend a bit more money and go to a better hotel

Review 13：The reception staff tried to cheat on us at all time by calculating the room rate in a different matter.They let you book the room in USD first, then they convert the USD into Sri Lanka Rupies in the most expensive possible way. At the end you need to pay 10% more for the room as the initial booking. Eventually we didnt pay a penny more, but lost at least 2 hours in negociating about the payment, instead being at the beach.

Review 14：Food was great. Room was ok.

Review 15：Bathroom was small and a bit moldy around the edges. Some staff seem snappy and overloaded, deciding everything from tolletpaper to room prices, while other personnel idled around smiling. Also weird: a female Hospitality advisor called our room seven times in two days -at all hours of the day and night- formally to check if the room was ok but probably to look busy to her manager. We had to unplug the room telephone to nap, sleep or read in peace. Which is a bit of a red flag for a hospitality department.

Review 16：We liked the building, the layout, the huge and well kept garden with trees full of squirrels and birds, a truly lovely garden. The rooms had original details like rounded windowframes and wooden shutters. The room design was bland but comfortable. The beach was pink, quiet and beautiful, with huge waves for long swims nd walks.

Review 21：We discovered that if you use Booking.com then they have special rooms for you. On the first floor and right outside the window there is some kind of ventilator making bad noise. Stuff said that for booking they have these rooms ( cheaper and not so good as other rooms in this hotel). So if you want nice room, contact them directly without booking.com

Review 25：- Horrible staff, expect one person the sale officer " Pradeep" all staff were horrible, they were not at all friendly or helpful, The guys at front desk got very bad attitude and are not at all ready to help. we reacehd early and requested an early check in , we were even ready to pay for getting the rooms early, even after having room the front desk guys were not ready to help and we waited 3 hrs at looby and thru the help of the sales officer the guys gave a room which looked horrible and looked liked it was not cleaned for months. During out wait the front desk people were not even ready to get our luggare into the lobby, for 3 hours all our baggage and valuable were left outside the hotel in the car drop reception. when asked why r the luggare dropped there, the guy at counter said they got cam there, wht is the point if we loose our valuables and having snap shot of the video clip, we had to wait out side the hotel next to the luggage, they treat customers very badly, our booking was for 2 rooms and both the rooms were not clean to the standard of 4 star,i wont recommend for any one even if u get it free

Review 27：Everything else unfortunately. We took a basic room. We were initially assigned a room which was unlocked and apparently the mini bar was unlocked too. We were then changed to another room with 3 beds despite being only 2 persons. When they removed the extra bed, the underneath was extremely dirty and dusty which shows how unclean the place is. The light over the sink in the bathroom was not working. The electricity kept going on and off as the key card slot was not working properly. As we were there for just 2 days, we did not inform the reception as we didn't want to change rooms again. On the day of check- out, a member of the staff knocked on the door and proceeded to walk in to 'check the mini-bar' and I had to inform him that this was unacceptable as we were sleeping in the room. Either pay more for a better room or move to a better hotel.

Review 33：I would rate my overall experience as horrible. When I entered the room it was so humid and the floor had dust mixed with humidity. The bed had dust fallen off from the ceiling fan. The washroom looked so dirty. I really don't know how the room service cleanliness works. I saw the room service guy takes the face towel and started cleaning the toilet before putting it into the laundry. Most of the time the requests are not entertained by the staff. Meals are horrible except the breakfast.

Review 37：The beds were not comfortable. The bed linen looked dirty and was bobbly. The bathroom was very dated and shabby, with mouldy areas in the shower cubicle. When it rained heavily, water came in under the balcony door. The reception staff were very grumpy and not welcoming at all. All the staff generally are not very happy and not hugely competent, especially in the restaurents. For example it took us 5 requests and about 15 minutes to get a teaspoon for our tea, having already gone and sourced the sugar ourselves! The food is ok but not great. The buffet restaurent is very big but just too busy and chaotic for a relaxing breakfast or dinner. There is very little shade around the pool with only 3 parasols for over 800 rooms!!

Review 38：The location is great. The hotel is on bentota beach which is beautiful. The pool is also great but is very deep (8 foot) in places. The grounds are large and beautifully looked after. Great seaviews from the room.

Spar in the hotel is run by a private company and managed by a 23 year old boy who has no clue nor fully trained? still charge European prices for untrained staff. whilst massaging he answer his mobile phone. Ten minutes later he leaves you in your room to go and do something else. Worst spar I been to!

Review 54：The first room had a terrible smell and the bathroom, especially the shower, was dirty. We got a smaller room as replacement. Again the smell was bad, but the bathroom was cleaner, allthough the toilet seat was broken and the water drain was not working. Second day the sink was full with ants. We assume the bad smell has to do with an old sentralized airconditioning system.

Review 58：There are only few restaurants and other facilities outside the hotel. There are only beach hotel resorts near to this hotel, so it is better to take a half board and to stay in the hotel for the evening. There is not much to do outside.

Review 59：Nice, luxury, clean hotel, two swimming pools,tropical garden, gymnasium. Very large nice and clean sand beach. You can walk few kilometers on the beach on the both sides. Most of the day quite big waves - rough sea, difficult to swim more than 50m from the bank. Room is with shower, balcony, comfortable double bed, AC, TV and WIFI. Tasty buffet breakfast and dinner.

Review 60：The staff was one of the worse I have stayed with worldwide. The majority of guesses were russian, and we got interrogated by rude several times every hour if we were stayed in the hotel, as they were worried we were just using their pool... Also at check out I had questions about our bill but they were not interested. They asked me to leave the seat so the next costumer could pay. There are many actually 5 star hotels along the beach were you can stay for cheaper.

Review 61：The beach is stunning, however there are no sunbeds, umbrellas or toilets! For a self-acclaimed 5 star (more like 3 star) you would expect facilities on the beach.

Review 65：Отличный отель за соответствующие деньги. Мы обошли все отели в округе, и вернулись в Bentota beach во второй раз. У соседнего The Surf при всей внешней привлекательности полное отсутствие приватности: на ваш балкон может легко прийти любой человек с общего пляжа. В Cinnamon Bay маленький пляж, очень много людей, очень дорогие рестораны и очень странная политика бронирования - наше оплаченное проживание отель отменил за день до заезда. Taj - прекрасен, но это совсем другой бюджет. Так что Bentota Beach в компании с бурундуками - отличный вариант.

Review 66：The room (702) was not particularly clean . No attention to detail eg. Drawers were not cleaned properly so clothes came dusty and dirty. They did not fit properly and had mites in them. Bathroom was in serious need of refurbishment with mould in many places and limescale all over the glass.

Review 72：Nothing... really ... but one comment though. If you have a bad or wounded leg or having trouble with walking then you should ask for a room close to the reception because some of the rooms do have incredible long walking distance.

Review 73：We had two spacious rooms side by side on the second floor with a view to the garden and the pool area which was great. Our beds where big and comfortable. The buffet breakfast was just perfect, one of the best we had in Sri Lanka. The garden was huge and the beach was in less than 5 minutes walking distance. I wanted to extend my stay but I didn't have more days to spend now.

Review 74：Comfortable room with a view and a/c. Large gardens with relaxing views. Expansive uncrowded sandy beach. Wide variety of buffet food available. Friendly and easy check-in and check-out. Short walk to many small shops, restaurants and bars.

Review 75：Check the minibar tiny fridge in the room when you arrive, and then every time they pretend to stock it, because it may turn out in the end that "the crisps are opened" and a few bottles have "loose caps" as in "you obviously drank this vile-looking local soda and then filled the tiny bottles up again, you rascal you :)". It won't cost too much, but annoying nevertheless.

Review 76：This is probably the best hotel in the whole island for boring couples and families trying to soak up some sun and salty air in a quiet place where they get pampered but pay quite reasonable money. Great beach, great grassy lawn all around, sport facilities, nice pool, attentive staff... The cooking in the restaurant below the dining mess hall, and also the room service cooking, are far superior in quality to, and just as affordable as, the generic lunches and dinners in the dining hall.

Review 77：The staff at reception had no clue about the area, transportation, tourist attractions, or the hotel it self. It was one of architect Geoffrey Bawa,s most significant buildings. Sri Lanka,s most important architect and modern contributor to the arts. He designed parliament house not to mention many other important building all over Sri Lanka. They didn't even know who he was. They knew nothing of local and interesting tourist attractions and had no clue on how to get to them, When I asked how I could get to the airport in the morning I was told to go outside and find a taxi ( at 6am) as the hotel taxi would be more expensive and it would take 3 and a half to 4 hours to get there?, then I was told 2 to 2 and a half hours by other person and then one and a half hours by another person. At 6 am when I went to "find a taxi" there were none available?? It takes one and a half to 2 hours on the NEW expressway to get to the airport from the Hotel. Maybe your staff should ALL know this. Also the bathrooms are all very very unclean. I understand the building is old, but a simple clean with bleach especially in all the showers is a very easy way to properly get rid of all the mould and soup scum all over the shower. They need to be cleaned properly. It is not acceptable to have mould all over bathrooms with dirty shower screens.

Review 86：Such an amazing experience! We were Group of 5 Irish girls. Got an amazing offer and honestly felt like we hit the jackpot! Felt like a 5* hotel. The staff were amazing,really nice and treated us as though we were their friends!They even came to wish us off in the taxi! Deepal at reception was so helpful and Bala the pool assistant couldn't have been friendlier! The location was perfect as it was right by the beach, so we could have the best of both worlds switching between pool and beach! GOT so many amazing photos, monkeys and puppies on the beach! There isn't much nightlife in Bentota, but it's the kind of hotel that you don't need to as enjoying the luxury and the views is better off it hour a hangover! We bought a bottle of wine one evening and sat on the beach which was nice. The rooms are beautiful with lovely views and spacious beds. its close to water sport facilities. Could not recommended it more!!!

Review 92：The toilet was awful. I paid a 100000 Rs through Bookings.com and Ifeel cheated as I don't think I got anything of value anywhereclose to that amount. We had some Arab guests who harrassed us thewhole Sunday and it truly spoiled our day. Management said theycouldn't do anything about it unless they physically harassed us! Ispent so much money to spend the afternoon being afraid to come out ofmy room. Dinner could be improved. The desserts for every meal could bevery much improved.

Also Bentota is a terrible town to visit if you want to leave the hotel at any point- dirty, loud, rude people and not traveler friendly!

Review 100：Requested for late check-out at 4pm. The response was flat 'No' without any attempt to go the extra mile. The only response I got was to come back with the request the next day. On 2nd day, I was asked, "so who promised you that this could be done? We can only extend till 2pm." I agreed and left it. On the check-out day, they called at 11:38 to say that I have to check out by noon. Totally disrupting my rest and not demonstrating any sense of coordination again when asked (now by another staff): "who promised you that?". Getting their act together is probably a good first step.

Review 102：Really inconsiderate regarding noise early in the morning. Our room was just not very clean. Food at hotel wasnt great especially buffet where one guest was trying everything before serving onto his plate with serving spoon. At the Cocktail bar by pool, we ordered and paid for drinks only to be shouted at as we were leaving saying we owe 100 rupees as the barman that served us got the price wrong. Dinner isnt served until 19:30 which was a little late. Would not recommend staying here!
