Reviews for Hotel at the Lafayette
Review 1:The breakfast area was quite dark. Perhaps a smaller area or breakfast.
Review 2:A beautiful refurbished boutique hotel. Bar area very original. Lovely carved wooden bar. Good breakfast. Clean rooms and friendly staff. Thanks
Review 3:The breakfast wasn't great or the service at breakfast but that's not what we were there for and it was free so ...whatever
Review 4:Staff were amazing. We were celebrating my husband's 40th and they surprised us with an upgrade to our room. Beautiful hotel!
Review 5:It would have been nice to have more options for lighting in the room. Either all the overhead pot lights were on, or very dim bedside lamps. Brighter bedside lamps or an accent lamp on the desk would have created a more cozy atmosphere.
Review 6:Loved the decor and the historic building. The staff were really welcoming, and the included breakfast buffet was good. The room was relaxing and clean, and decorated with sensual textural elements.
Review 7:I called down for my car ahead of time expecting it to be at the door for me. When I went to desk, she said it would be a couple minutes. Valet didn't even start to get my car. I had an appointment which I was worried I wouldn't make.
Review 8:I thought the location was excellent. The restaurants were great! Loved them right on sight
Review 9:No restaurants open (in hotel or area) on Sunday evening. Front desk referred us to Allentown pizza delivery (good!) but would have liked drink, real meal.
Review 10:Historical, interesting building. Kind of iffy location at night, but we did walk a bit in the area- lots of history there, also. Very good breakfast. Much more than continental that they advertise.
Review 11:the only negative was the buffet breakfast. A little more attention to the quality of the food would make it outstanding.
Review 12:Location, room decor, staff, clientèle all great. The room was especially well-designed, like a mini-suite.
Review 13:I would question the colour scheme. San Quentin grey hallways and Lilac bathrooms wear on one quickly. Also, check the TV remote batteries occasionally, ours was dead. The beds were irrationally soft - oooh my aching back!
Review 14:Great historic hotel with nice rooms, close to the downtown architectural highlights of Buffalo and not too far from some great neighbourhoods. Love the backstory of the building and the architect (take the stairs for more).
Review 15:Was there for a wedding and the bartenders could highly improve on their customer service and ability to hide comments. then after the wedding at the hotel bar the same rudeness of customer service carried with those bartenders.
Review 16:The rooms were amazing and clean. Very comfortable and modern.
Review 17:Disappointed with the breakfast provided. And they promise to accommodate the late check out when I booked the room by phone, but refused to do so when checked in. Would not booked the room if they cannot accommodate. Really not happy about it.
Review 18:The re was an odd smell in the corridors and in the room. There is a little bit dark in the appartment
Review 19:The room are very spacious with a lot of cupboards, the kitchen was equipped well. The bathrooms were clean
Review 20:Our suite had burnt out light bulbs and the floors could have used a sweep. AC took a long time to cool our room down.
Review 21:Great old building with immense character in heart of downtown with very friendly and helpful staff. Valet parking was a reasonable price.
Review 22:Breakfast is horrible. You are better off buying a cup of coffee outside and a muffin. The manager, she was unpleasant to say the least. I had requested a room with street view or at least a room which has a decent view and the first room they gave us was a room that looked at a wall and windows all around. The attitude was horrible. But she changed it after complaining. Price for the vallet is relatively high but even if we say that it is fair, the vallet personnel as soon as you give them your car say "the price per night is this and that does not include the TIP". They come at you so strong and rude.
Review 23:Just the location was good. It was close to the everything. The room was clean and nice.
Review 24:First things first. Upon arrival to our room we took showers andfreshened up for our night out. When we returned to our room I calledthe front desk for additional towels to be brought to our room. Fiveminutes later our room door opened and in walked a member of the hotelstaff! No knock, just walked right in. He immediately apologized andsaid he was new and didn't receive good instructions on where to gettowels and thought our room was the place to get them. I understand theyoung man was trying his best but we were undressing when he walked inand we were more than a little shaken. When I called the front desk(still shaken and more than a little mad) I was told the young man hadbeen on the job for three days and was still learning. I was told that Iwould hear from hotel management the next morning but never did. What Idon't understand is how the hotel management can give a master keywhich opens every door in the hotel to a new associate. Well I can tellyou we didn't have a very restful nights sleep since the doorsdon't have the extra security of a chain or bar type lock in everyother hotel I've ever stayed in. It's sad that we didn'tfeel safe staying in/leaving our belongings in a room we werespending $230 for. The room however was nice with the exception of aused bar of soap that had been left by the previous guest and somehowmanaged to go unnoticed by the cleaning staff even though it was on theshowers liquid soap dispenser (which only had enough soap in it for oneshower). One other thing that was disappointing was there was no fridgein the room but I should have read up on that, I assumed because it wasa suite that it would have one but no biggie really. Basically mydisappointment is with hotel management for not caring enough abouttheir guests to even honor their word to contact me on the concern. Iremember when places like this took pride in their name.
Review 25:Loved the location and the design.
Review 26:Wish there was a mini fridge and the option to purchase movies! Everything else was great.
Review 27:Great food and cocktails at Butter and Bourbon downstairs! We had an awesome room in the Junior Suite with a great shower that came with a window and no door. Very romantic and fun. We had a great time.
Review 28:We asked for help with our luggage while checking out. So the reception sent us someone with the luggage trolley. What he did shocked me. Maybe it's acceptable practice in land but it was new to me. He coolly asked have us the trolley and asked us to load and bring it from floor 2 to reception! I find that not good service.
Review 29:The staff at reception were very friendly!
Review 30:The junior suite did not have a refrigerator! I thought that with the quality and size of this room a dorm size refrigerator would be appropriate. Then the ice machine was broken. I called the front desk and they brought up a bag of ice when needed.
Review 31:Very modern plush accomidations. Junior suite was very large with ample room for entertaining.
Review 32:Noise was a bit of an issue. I wished we'd been placed on a floor away from the wedding party.
Review 33:Loved the staff, the room, and especially the shower. Awesome deco - so much better than the cookie-cutter hotels.
Review 34:Things were missed by the cleaning crew. Candy wrappers in the floor and bar of soap under the sink. Did not like way the bathroom had a window you could see in from the bedroom. Bed was very uncomfortable
Review 35:The room itself was nice
Review 36:For that much money a night, there should at least be a mini fridge
Review 37:Bathroom is amazing. Room was very nice. Suite was comfortable, very clean, lovely.
Review 38:It could have used a mini fridge.
Review 39:This didn't feel like the typical sterile, cookie-cutter chain hotel rooms. It was cool, eclectic and comfortable. The fire place was really neat!
Review 40:One of the wall lights beside the bathroom mirror was burned out. We were only there for one night so not a big deal.
Review 41:A quiet location in a good location. Loved the art deco accessories in the room.
Review 42:Booking.com over charged me for the room. there where more rooms at lower prices!
Review 43:Location is awesome, Bedding and room service are top notch. The Staff (Mike) was amazing super friendly and truly welcoming.
Review 44:I loved it here, I wish I had stayed more than one night! It's become my go-to hotel staying in Buffalo, the facilities are top notch and the on-site restaurant very good.
Review 45:Vending machine was broke and a bottle of water from the room was expensive.
Review 46:The room, shower and bed were awesome. Could have stayed in the room for ever!
Review 47:Loved the character of this hotel. It is an old building maintained beautifully and extremely clean. The room was beautiful and the bed and pillows were amazingly comfortable. We enjoyed are stay very much and was in a great location for going to a concert at the first niagara centre.
Review 48:Disappointed in the fitness center, what you had available and how to get to it (scary). Expected glassware and someone serving coffee in the morning, not processed eggs and paper cups. Didn't stay to eat at night as the side room of the pub was filled with inattentive parents and their squealing 4 to 7 year old little girls running around. Stopped staying at Hamptons and Embassy Suites because we were looking for a more adult and sophisticated atmosphere and wanted to get away from the soccer tournaments and dance recital families.
Review 49:There is so much rich history in the building yet the lobby looks like something from Mad Max. Loved the spa type bathroom and the rooms overall. Love the original check in desk area, wish that was used. So glad that downtown is being renovated, embrace the history!
Review 50:Pop machine on our floor was out of most of the selections.
Review 51:The hotel is gorgeous, the staff friendly, the food at Pan American was delicious, and our waitress was amazing, and the bed was like sleeping in a cloud!! Will be back again!!
Review 52:I did not like that on a Saturday evening after 1 am I couldn't get something to eat. I thought the bars would be open for business and they were not.
Review 53:I lives the hotel. Very comfortable and the location to the Arena was great. The Train was so accessible ...
Review 54:The onsite restaurants were not terribly vegetarian-friendly, and there is little else to eat in the neighborhood. We walked around for nearly an hour trying to find something, and the staff couldn't seem to think of anything for us to eat other than pizza.
Review 55:It's a gorgeous place, with friendly staff. It was close to the new Canalside attractions, and relatively inexpensive.
Review 56:the valet service is awful hit and miss when we were leaving no one helped with the door or bags. they valet choose to stay behind the front desk Which surprised me as I have been there many times and i thought they were stationed at the front doors. the gentleman that was working valet at the night time was outstanding.. room was dirty for 225$ the walls had some kind of stains all over it. and food on the window ledge sad as this was go to hotel ( 1 time a month) for the last 2 years :(
Review 57:good service great spacious room kind supportive help by the staff
Review 58:The only thing I would change would be to have room service after 9 PM.
Review 59:We loved the suite, it was extremely comfortable. The decorations at the hotel were beautiful. We ate dinner in the new restaurant , which was wonderfully elegant and delicious! The staff was extremely solicitous. I definitely appreciated the valet parking.
Review 60:By the time we got down to breakfast there was very little remaining to eat (and no plates!), so we left and ate breakfast at another venue.
Review 61:Proximity to the First Niagara Centre. We took in a Leafs/Sabres game.
Review 62:the valet service is ridiculous and poor service. the staff do not care about your luggage or you. inconsiderate and ignorant to the needs of the customer
Review 63:Breakfast not very good. Extremely poor wi-fi signal in the room, but OK in the lobby.
Review 64:The room was very stylish (and clean) with a large bathroom including both a shower and a tub, and there was an FM radio in the room. Nice staff. A beer brewery right next doors and a good restaurant/bakery downstairs! Good location, walking distance from the bus terminal.
Review 65:the poorly managed continental breakfast : better not to have one : replace with just coffee in the rooms no need for a poorly supplied poorly located confection to spoil the wonderful ethos the hotel's reanimation has created
Review 66:The attention to detail. The 20s design, the quality of the restoration The positive can do, will do, attitude regarding its position in the vanguard of the great Buffalo resurgence the spacious rooms and their quality fittings
Review 67:The room did not have a book with information (phone numbers, hotel amenities, etc.) like most hotel rooms. As such, for example, I am unaware whether there are any exercise facilities.
Review 68:This is a beautifully restored hotel that is quiet, comfortable and luxurious. The old construction is so solid that I thought that the hotel was mostly vacant, but it was in fact fully booked. Since it recently restored, the bathrooms are large, modern and immaculate, and the beds are tremendously comfortable (not too soft like many these days). Staff are friendly and all seem to be young, energetic and anxious to help. The free WI-FI worked well and it is nice that the hotel does nickel and dime guests by charging for such. Overall, I will absolutely stay here if I am ever travel to Buffalo again and I will recommend the Lafayette to all family and friends.
Review 69:The surrounding neighborhood has seen better days but u can get where u want via car. I went to buffalo to see the Albright-Knox and the Martin house on the way to Toronto so downtown wasn't my destination other than the Sullivan Bld.
Review 70:Good job of redoing this gem of a building. Valet parking was easy to use.
Review 71:Had to pay for parking
Review 72:I loved how the hotel has been renovated in keeping with its history. Everything well appointed and the staff was very helpful and friendly. Kudos to the wedding planner who steered us to many local jaunts she's a gem!
Review 73:The rooms were amazing. Spacious and huge bathroom.
Review 74:Front desk let phone ring too long without answering
Review 75:Most everything
Review 76:Traffic noise could be heard and drafts could be felt in the room
Review 77:No pool or hottub.
Review 78:Wonderful bed and buffet breakfast. Very friendly staff. Great downtown location.
Review 79:Valet parking was expensive
Review 80:Nice hotel, great location, helpful staff
Review 81:Sofa bed wasn't ideal for 2 teenagers View from the room was a gloomy courtyard at the back
Review 82:Valet parking Character Value for money
Review 83:Few more items on breakfast
Review 84:Lovely old building
Review 85:Wi fi speef
Review 86:Comfort bed
Review 87:Wifi is not good sometimes
Review 88:Perfect blend of old character with new modern appointments.
Review 89:classy and clean Just cool
Review 90:full kitchen.Wow! Priced like a small hotel room but came off like a 5-star apartment.
Review 91:The bed was too soft
Review 92:Friendly staff Nice architecture
Review 93:breakfast was not good
Review 94:location, room was awesome, staff
Review 95:It's Buffalo
Review 96:Spacious rooms and great value
Review 97:I wish you would provide a fridge in the room to keep beverages cold.
Review 98:The Staff Was professional, and courteous. The room was great
Review 99:Love the rooms and the location of this place.
Review 100:Breakfast was so so. Had to wait for coffee, orange juice etc.. Hot food was okay and hot though.
Review 101:Love the rooms and staff.
Review 102:Toilet tank did not fill properly. Ran all night Also pot lights in entrance were not working
Review 103:Fireplace did not work
Review 104:Nothing. Love it
Review 105:Architecture and history of building .butter woods bakery yummm
Review 106:Breakfast isn't good
Review 107:Location. Not the best area.
Review 108:Love the nostalgia. Bath/shower was awesome!!
Review 109:We just planned it as an overnight stay coming from Niagra Falls but should have stayed longer, as the rooms and the hotel are great.
Review 110:Beautiful room. Wish I was stayed more than one night but it was worth it. If I'm in Buffalo again Lafayette is where I'll be.
Review 111:No safe in the room
Review 112:The whole feel of the hotel is luxurious with original deco features, this has to be the best looking hotel in Buffalo. Beautifully restored a few years ago, this hotel has spacious rooms, with modern facilities. The suites are great if you want to self cater with well appointed kitchens. The public area are very grand and the hotel has 2 great restaurants. Sorry if this review sounds like a brochure but, having stayed in some of the best hotels around the world, I really rate this place. If you cant get in here try their sister hotel The Lofts on Pearl
Review 113:The only "complaint" I have is that there was no mini-fridge in the room. My boyfriend and I had eaten dinner in the restaurant downstairs and were unable to take leftovers because they would have gone bad without having a fridge to put them in.
Review 114:The room my boyfriend and I had was gorgeous and very comfortable. We will definitely be staying there again.
Review 115:Trivial but could have used another garbage pail; coffee packets hard to open.
Review 116:The room was so gorgeous. The decor, plus fireplace, televisions so great. Loved the bathroom. Quiet and comfortable. I would Highly recommend.
Review 117:Two times during my stay we had to evacuate the building due to the fire alarm going off, both false alarms due to equipment failures. On the plus side: the alarms were very well done. I was able to clearly hear them in my room and they were very understandable. On the minus side: two alarms in the same day and both of them woke me up. Not a good thing at all!
Review 118:Very excellent in almost all areas.
Review 119:Lack of proactiveness of hotel management to inform guestsand take measures to ensure guests would be taken care of when because of a snow storm (not horrible) ALL three restaurants were closed including the bars, which in turn did not allow any dinner or cocktails at the hotel. when asked about other local restaurants or for delivery options, they handed me menus and advised I could call around. (Really -shouldn't they have done that in advance knowing they had guests and would need options?!?). The next morning when I inquired about a potential discount due to lack of all amenities, I was told the storm was not the hotels fault true, but the lack of practive management in caring for the guests was. the complimentary but very mimited continental breakfast was then offered...little to late... Parking is difficult and what I think is pricey (20.00 a night). I would not recommend.
Review 120:architecture is very good
Review 121:Bed is too soft. Complimentary breakfast is very limited (coffee/muffins/yoghurt). Only valet parking. No hotel parking lot.
Review 122:Size and high end quality of rooms. Free password free wifi. Great room service.
Review 123:If your happy with not having a bar or restaurant on site then try their sister hotel, Lofts on Pearl. Same quality for less money
Review 124:The usual level of professionalism, design and attention to detail that you come to expect from this company. Another stunning hotel
Review 125:The fact it was valentines weekend and we were on the 3rd floor and aparty disrupted sleep that wasn't ending until 1a. The bathroom doorwas broken and not repaired (could not stay closed) and there were usedwash cloths in the shower still from the previous night. It would reallytake a lot for me to stay there again even though it looks nice on theinside the poor attention to these detail (even during busy times) isunacceptable
Review 126:Room was definetly modern with an island sink/dishwasher and a 5burner stove was excellent
Review 127:Breakfast room was dispiriting way to start the day. Dark. Loud tv. Unappealing food. Given nicer spaces that could be used, suggest anything would be improvement.
Review 128:Room was very pleasant especially after we were moved away from the music emanating from the bar below. Staff were very helpful.
Review 129:Nothing
Review 130:Our room was spotless, with modern new furnishings and appliances. It is located right downtown, within walking distance of theatre and sports arena. Fantastic spot. Would definitely stay here again, especially in one of the suites.
Review 131:We got back to the hotel after a show around 10:30pm and there was nothing open to get a drink or coffee. Front Desk staff wasn't very accomodating, and the bar in the hotel had already done last call. Was disappointed our night away from reality bound us to our hotel room the rest of the night.
Review 132:I loved the history of the building and the architecture. Rooms were very nice, updated and the mattress was very comfortable.
