Reviews for Alkmaarse Bed And Breakfast

Review 1:The two boxes ofouse poison that we found in apartment No sink in bathroom Terrace dangerous for children and adults The owner avoided you Neglected place

Review 2:Location spot on. Alkmaar is a beautiful place. The B and B was right by the canal and close to town centre.

Review 3:We were given a sort of garage as an apartment where the bedrooms and the two bathrooms had no windows at all. Moreover we had been rudely accused to have caused the interruption of elettricity we suffered most probably due to an improper power system. The staff entered the apartment without knocking at the door and using other keys. The following morning we had the unpleasant surprise of water dripping from all over the ceiling and had to argue when we informed them we intended to leave the acccomodation as they asked full payment although the apartment was not serviceable. We finally agreed to pay the first night only and staresti in a wonderful 4* hotel in Alkmaar for about the same price.

Review 4:There were holes in the walls of some of the hotel rooms, that opened out into the hallway so we felt a bit exposed. Also, in the room I stayed in there was no door to the shower! It just opened into the main sleeping quarters. Lastly, the manager was either very stressed or just naturally...sketchy. He practically threw us out of our rooms early to accommodate other guests (and this was three hours prior to check-out time. He basically asked us to pack up and leave.)

Review 5:Loved that it was on the river right near the center of town.

Review 6:We booked two rooms for two couples and there was no indication on the reservation that we would be sharing a bathroom, but that was the case. Our rooms were on the third floor, with a very steep stairway. I would not recommend it for the elderly or anyone with a lot of luggage. The bed was okay but the linens were awful and the towel was so stiff and scratchy that we elected not to shower there. There is no close by parking. We parked across the canal and took a short free ferry to the B&B.

Review 7:Location for seeing the cheese market or old town is perfect. Jacob checked us in and was very helpful on where to go and what to see.

Review 8:Amazing building along one of the canals. You can sit in the breakfast room or in the living room enjoying the beautiful view while drinking a cup of tea. Very close to the city centre (5 minutes walk). Extremely friendly and helpful staff and great breakfast!!!!

Review 9:Friendly, great location, good breakfast, great information before arriving to ensure I found the place, had parking and knew what to expect. Overall a wonderful stay.

Review 10:had to pay in cash

Review 11:location - in a lovely quiet spot within old city & only 10 minute walk from railway station very helpful -allowed me to leave luggage at start & end of stay kitchen and sitting area were pleasant and allowwed me to re4lax

Review 12:No basin in bathroom & setting out of apartment was a bit odd, sitting area downstairs next to bathroom/toilet then upstairs to lounge/kitchen bedroom. The bathroom was very small & using kitchen sick to brush teeth etc is not really acceptable.

Review 13:The apartment was spacious, clean, good location & staff very helpful.

Review 14:We had written instructions to phone on arrival, even though we were outside the door. Phone was engaged and no means of leaving a message so we were stranded for 90mins before we had any contact.Meanwhile ...the parking metre was ticking and we had 90mins less to sightsee causing frustration and anxiety after our journey! Not a good start!

Review 15:Excellent location,5minutes walk to the centre, yet quiet. Great overall character and potential. Comfortable beds for a good sleep.

Review 16:Whiny American Alert: There is no air-conditioning and the bathroom was strange for us (no shower curtain, just a wet room), but both of those things simply come with the territory when staying in such an old house in Europe, so neither were really a problem and just added to the experience.

Review 17:Staff and the owner were wonderful to deal with and provided us with a lot of good information about the local area. The location was beautiful and simply walking around the area was a treat. Really cannot say enough about the kindness and humor of the staff - only stayed 1 night and left feeling as if we'd made a new friend. :)

Review 18:3 bed room facing the street/park with single glass windows = very, very noisy. No sink in the bathroom = you have to brush your teeth in the "kitchen". No curtains = hard to sleep. Claustrophobic sleeping area (2 separate beds) "upstairs" = very, very steep stairs. Did not feel too fresh.

Review 19:Nothing, the accommodation was a big disappointment.

Review 20:it is a bit far from the the train station (30 mims walk / 15mins walk + 5 Mins bus)

Review 21:clean and comfortable room with a well-equipped kitchen, near to the town centre (5 mins walk)

Review 22:very nice owner, and beautiful big comfy place and exellent location in the city centre

Review 23:- loud - cars riding through the street - unconfortable bed

Review 29:The location was excellent.

Review 30:Very clean, very friendly service and unique decorative character

Review 31:It was quite cold during the night and beds / matraces are highly uncomfortable.

Review 43:Very nice hotel, nice atmosphere, comfortable amenities, friendly owner.

Review 44:Nothing

Review 45:Location within old town, walking distance from all sites, safe to walk back late at night. Welcomed with coffee. Good experience.

Review 46:Great location very good breakfast

Review 47:Because it is so different and interesting, you don't get all the things you might expect. Like a wardrobe in the bedroom, or a sink in the bathroom in our case. But still well worth a visit.

Review 48:A really different, interesting set-up in an excellent location

Review 49:Very quaint and friendly environment that gives you the ability to interact with other guests in friendly environment. Great location on the canal of the town.

Review 50:If you are disabled, choose something else. I'm disabled, I loved it!

Review 51:The rooms are all different and very personal. Everything might not be as expected, but when you reflect a little you find it much better. You are in the middle of the history of Alkmaar. The staff is extremely friendly.

Review 52:Bathroom..no wash basin. No hand towels.Mirror too high.Needs new shower screen. Sleeping area..Very steep stair/ladder access to very low ceilinged bedroom. Two ladies, each 153cm....heads touched ceiling !

Review 53:warm and comfortable living area.Pleasant staff.Well fitted kitchen.

Review 54:I was expecting a view over the canel, instead room 6 has no view at the back. Lots of steep stairs up to room 6, smell of food in the room. Parking is not easy.

Review 55:Friendly staff

Review 56:- No free parking place in the nearest surroundings, it is necessary to cross the channel by a ferryboat. Not comfortable with many pieces of luggage like in our case; - Shared bathroom outside the room which was not mentioned in the description.

Review 57:- Friendly and helpful staff; - Good and sufficient breakfast; - Nice and attractive location in the ancient city centre.

Review 58:stairs to first room

Review 59:helpful owners changed room as first unsuitable for disabled travellers space/facilities in apartments clean location central

Review 60:Should be careful with warm water. It is coming from small tank, so you can empty the tank easily, and loose hot water. However maybe this problem is specific only for me, because of high consumption of hot water.

Review 61:Price, staff, location

Review 62:Great atmosfare Great location Great living room with citchen next to my toon

Review 63:The warm welcome and the very nice staff. Alkmaar was also beautifull with all seasonlights.
