Reviews for The Surin, Phuket

Review 1:Pool was not impressive, loose tiles and visible white glue hardened and unpleasant to walk on. Should use salt water in stead of chlorine like in Indigo Pearl.

Review 2:Great private beach area and very nice and spacious bungalows.

Review 3:We loved everything about our stay at the Surin Phuket. The private beach is gorgeous, the bungalows are clean, comfortable and well appointed and the staff were the friendliest people we met in Thailand. Every detail about this place (delicious breakfast, free water sport rental, great food and drinks) is perfect and made it the most enjoyable place we stayed on our honeymoon.

Review 4:even if private beach, people try to sell you drinks/massages every 10 minutes

Review 5:great little beach, nice villas nestled on the hill above, rich breakfast

Review 6:Nothing. Perfect place.

Review 7:We loved everything& I mean everything. The staff, our room, ambience, food, service etcetera etcetera. Definitely worth the price.

Review 8:The difference between a superior cabin abd a delux cabin was not clear on their website. The more expensive cabins are at beach level. The hillside cabins are more private but further (50 feet) from the beach. Snorkeling gear is provided but not great stuff probably better to take your own. The best snorkelling was at the north end of the beachouse along the rocks.

Review 9:Great place to chill.

Review 10:The steps are very kid unfriendly. The staff could be a bit more English language trained.

Review 11:The Surin has an amazing beach. It's beautiful, private, and unique. The property is well designed and elegant. For just this one reason we will keep coming back here.

Review 12:The signage needs work - it is confusing to get to the rooms because directions aren't clear/obvious enough.

Review 13:The location is superb, the private beach is serene with beautiful views and warm blue water, the breakfast buffet was varied and delicious, the rooms are wonderfully decorated and afford amazing vistas. We attended one Thai dinner event and it was scrumptious.

Review 14:Rooms by the beach may smell of damp Air con a bit noisy

Review 15:I love the beach and the Christell clear see. Pizza is excellent! We will always come back to this paradise place. Thank you for treating us always.

Review 16:Lots of stairs up and down.

Review 17:Great private beach for relaxing was the highlight of our stay. Felt like a good place for families and those looking to just relax at the hotel.

Review 18:When we first arrived, it took them a few hours to bring us our suitcases, which left us stuck in the room without shorts or swimwear, on one of the nicest days (when we were only there for 3 days). We also found the bed to be very hard, so didn't get great sleep. while we were there. We would love to go back, but we'd want to know that they could do something about that.

Review 19:Superb location, with it's own beach. Even the hillside cottages are really nicely furnished. Nice and quiet, but more lively beach is 5-10 minute walk away. Friendly staff. Good food and cocktails. Although the food and drinks are probably on the pricey side (for Thailand), the room was probably the best value we had the whole time we were in Thailand.

Review 20:The stairs are really too much for families with babies and/or strollers. There are too many stairs to reach to the beach or lobby. The price of the hotel is expensive compared to the other resorts around.

Review 21:Private beach is really clean and tidy. We are delighted with the attitude of the staff since the beginning. The location of the hotel is suitable for families, not recommended for those looking for night life.

Review 22:Perfect stay. This hotel is stunning, but to me, the major difference with other hotels will be the quality of the service: I have never experienced in any other hotel a staff that will offer great service before you even ask for it. In my case it was complimentary room upgrade, check in at 10am instead of 2pm, check out at 3pm instead of 12pm, but also 2 boosters car seats waiting for my kids in the car which picked us up from the airport, when I had chosen the cheapest car option and did not request for them, some internet access issue solved within minutes and overall super friendly and efficient staff everywhere. The rooms are very nice and clean. The beach and the swimming pool are beautiful and there is a nice choice of water sports. I just want to go back (and I will!).

Review 23:The room service and food was just awful, what a let down and how annoying when the rest of the hotel experience is utterly superb (apart from no option to rent movie channels in the room, just a basic Thai TV package). A cute looking complimentary snack box (lovely gesture) was left in my room with the most disgusting dark pink colour processed ham that tasted like luncheon meat. The English breakfast we had delivered to the room was inedible (it was 40 mins late and had no cups for the tea. 30 mins later they returned again with espresso cups!) . They tried to charge 2300 THB for it when it said complimentary breakfast on my booking. They did honor the agreement after I complained however, they did try and argue about it for a good 10 mins!

Review 24:The rooms and the look of the hotel in general is really impressive. Luxurious whilst being cosy. The interiors of the rooms are very well designed. The private beach is probably one of the most stunning I have ever seen. Beautiful beautiful hotel. I will be recommending and returning.

Review 25:Despite the room being newly painted there was a bad smell of mould. The bed was so hard I had to sleep on top of the doona and under a towel. A note for less mobile people. There are stairs everywhere and in most cases high rises and narrow treads, especially from the forecourt to Reception, there is no other way to get to Reception but by stairs. Personally we did not mind the stairs. We had a wet time in Phuket and without the pool there would not have been much to do at this resort. We moved to the Angsana at Laguna and had a pleasant stay despite the weather.

Review 26:The beach and the view was spectacular. The pool was closed for renovation but we knew that prior to stay.

Review 27:We were in the upper Hillside cottage and really too many steps.

Review 28:Excellent Hotel, with good management and awesome cusine. Beachfront. Cozy and quiet. Get asleap with the sound of waves and wake up with birds singing. Cottages are very nice.

Review 29:The beach and the outdoor spaces can be cleaner, I mentioned that to management and they were on top of it. The location can be far for those who want the hustle and bustle of Patong (taxi 15 dollars each way to Patong). Not for lazy types and those with bad knees, Internet very slow, you cannot stream at all. After all is an amazing place.

Review 30:I had a fantastic stay there thanks to super friendly staff, Thai people are the nicest and most polite people I know of. Beautiful villas and beautiful beach perfect for honeymooners and those in search of romance. Staff were always there to help you with everything you wanted the best part of my stay was those two different cookies they bring everyday with beautiful flowers to your room what a briliant idea.

Review 31:I have stayed in the hotel during month of September and the weather was very bad at the time. This led to many of the activities described in the hotel being not available. Furthemore the hotel offer a trips to James Bond island which are organised by the external company. I will not recoment this as the price is almost double in comparison with the same trip booked from the Puket town. Please also note trips programme / shelcedule described in the leaflets is not correct. The joirneys was resuced wirh 1.5h due to the low tide. Which is a common weather condition and should be properly anonced

Review 32:The Surin hotel is a nice place for people who would like to escape the crowd.

Review 33:Found cockroach in the room, which is terrible. When it was raining heavily, you will get wet in the main restaurant.

Review 34:Nice beach and friendly staffs, lovely breakfast and one set of complimentary dinner

Review 35:Paid upfront with no cancellation option, to reduce cost, but then received news that the pool was going to be renovated during our stay. However the hotel upgraded our room and we really enjoyed our stay it is an excellent hotel

Review 36:Location was great, food was good, staff were excellent

Review 37:Plastic was littered on the beach and in the water. The hotel should be strict about guests littering to keep the beach pristine

Review 38:All staff were very friendly and accommodating. Wit our driver, and Nai the front office manager, who took care of us on our early morning arrival, the two who brought my fiancee a birthday cake at night and sang with us, the sweet lady who served us drinks at the beach, and Pai from the rentals who we hung out with at our last day

Review 39:We visited in August which is low season so we were disappointed not to be able to SUP board. We were unaware this activity was not offered by the resort during low season (6 mths long) so had to visit the next beach along to hire.

Review 40:Beautiful location. Better than we expected. Great little beach out the front. We swam at both beach and in pool. The room was luxurious and well appointed. Love the individual villa style bungalows. Great design

Review 41:Me and my husband got infected the same night and I believe that was from the pool. I had to spend a day in the hospital.

Review 42:I looooved the breakfast. Been there in wrong time (August) but I loved the beach.

Review 43:We stayed to celebrate my girlfriend's birthday and the staff helped me to pull off a surprise for her. The whole stay was wonderful and unforgettable!

Review 44:An amazing hotel ... Pure luxury. One of the most beautiful private beaches. Lovely breakfast. Hillside cottage was beautiful ... But lots of steps!

Review 45:Only down side (literally) is the hotel is built into a hill. From the beach to the top of the hill can be a tiring climb and maybe not suitable for older people.

Review 46:Fantastic hotel with gorgeous location on a quiet beach. Staff were fantastic and really friendly. Quality of F&B was high......but so was the price.

Review 47:The prices in the restaurant and spa are a little bit hight when you compare with local ones

Review 48:The beach with white sands is splendid. Despite that we have been there in the rainy season, the beach was excellent. The other excellent things are nature, decoration and most importantly quality of the service.

Review 49:with two children there are a lot of stairs to climb. The pieces of plastic on the nice beach (a lot), the hotel does clean this up regularly but its very confronting to see how polluted our oceans are!

Review 50:the staff, they are extremely nice for children the food was very good!

Review 51:Like every single traveller that has commented, the cost of their food is the same as in London, and more expensive than where we live in Hong Kong which is ridiculous so we only made that mistake once. Their restaurants are empty and soul-less because of this. They also need to totally strip down their rooms as rather dated now

Review 52:Loved the staff, loved the upgrade they gave us to the beachfront cottage. The location of our cottage was amazing. Pool area and location right next to beach which was private was also very nice

Review 53:- you have to keep registering for the free wifi every 24 hours. - spa treatments a bit disappointing for what we paid. - no freshly made juice at breakfast (just carton juice)

Review 54:- stunning property - great food and drink - very friendly staff - comfortable rooms and excellent maid service

Review 55:A bit too hilly for long stay, meaning we have to climb alot of stairs to get to our room. We stayed for 4 nights so that is ok. Good for cardio though!

Review 56:helpful and always smiling staff - we got our room double upgraded - beatiful private beach - free wifi in all area. We love the cakes from breakfast buffet, especially the marble cake. They even let me take some of the cakes to the pool. Free birthday cake given to us on my husband birthday

Review 57:So many stairs and far from potang beach, taxi will charge 500 Baht to potang beach and it will take 30 mins

Review 58:Clean, nice nature, clean beach and nice pool

Review 59:A lot of Mosquitos , they perhaps need to burn more repellent candles!

Review 60:It was central yet still had spectacular views with fantastic staff always willing to assist. The cottages are a perfect size and the private beach was stunning!!!

Review 61:Meals at the restaurant are medium quality and really overpriced, you can eat better an cheaper in Surin village. The airconditioning in the room is very noisy, making it difficult to find some sleep. The rooms are not sound proof so that you hear your neighbour and noises from the outside. If you have a room on the hillside, you have to climb many steep stairs.

Review 62:Excellent breakfast Private beach Really nice rooms (huts on the hill and on the beach)

Review 63:We were celebrating our wedding anniversary and we will, for sure, come back. Indeed, from the location of the hotel (a bit away from the crowd), to the room quality, the staff kindness and the privacy of the beach, everything was great. The only turn off could have been the stairs but it is a minor detail and not so disturbing. It is a property we definitely recommend.

Review 64:Some may find the villa concept tiring (depending on your villa, lots of stairs). Cleaning staff are a bit random: the top shelf where we stored the luggage had dust (inadmissible for a luxury hotel), though everything else was prestine. Sometimes they didn't replenish the Surin Water Bottles. At times they left cleaning stuff on the porch for a while. Food in the restaurant is tremendously expensive for the value, and though it is super good, you can get better at half price just outside.

Review 65:The villas as super cool, the beach is private, amazing scenery, good swimming pool, breakfast is amazing, staff is delicate and nice.the mango ice-cream is superb.

Review 66:The wifi sometimes doesn't work on the beach but that is ok :) Apart from that there was nothing wrong.

Review 67:We stayed at the surin for 3 nights. Everything was great.

Review 68:pool area wasn't that appealing so we spent all our days swimming at the beach which was wonderful... room service menu average.. and lots of walking and stairs to get around the resort... not really that big a deal unless you're 6 months pregnant like i was haha

Review 69:bed was firm but pillows were fantastic.. food was average but the staff were wonderful and the private beach was the best part of our stay!.. as well as the beautiful sunsets!..overall as a resort it was clean and no issues with mosquitoes or insects.

Review 70:There is a lot of stairs to walk up if You have a garden hill room. Expensive but this is no surprise.

Review 71:The hotel has a private beach, very nice room and excellent food.

Review 72:Nothing to complain. Just a perfect stay.

Review 73:Mostly we liked the friendly staff, location and the private beach. Andafter a few days at The Surin we didn't want to leave. The Food wassimply delicious and all the staff made us feel unique and special. Theroom was bright and smelled so good every day with fresh flowers andfruit with the Hotel compliments. We even got some recipes to try athome! Amazing and unforgettable days.

Review 74:Could use a bit louder music at beach side bar....and drink prices were like being home. No real deal unless you go to happy hour, which is the best time to drink there. If your not into walking the hills to get to the rooms may be a problem for you.

Review 75:Loved the location, rooms and the simplicity of the hotel. The beach was private and loved that it was very different than all the other places in Phuket. If you want to avoid the crowds then this is the place to be. Staff was very friendly and welcoming.

Review 76:- Air con too loud during sleep. - A la carte breakfast menu taste so-so. - You can hear the bass (club sound system) from the nearby beach club...a downside if you seek quiet retreat rather than partying on the Surin beach. - One strange thing (and urged for an improvement) was that you had to log onto the wifi every now and then.

Review 77:- Love the fact that if was the former Chedi - guarantee of an understated/earthy chic style that I would like to stay. Facilitates are indeed very Chedi and tastefully done. - Well-trained and extremely warm staff - I gave them 12 out of 10! Wit, the gentleman that greeted us is absolutely one of the best guest relations men. - The view form the pool and the white sand beach was simply amazing. - The beach BBQ is a must try. If only the ice cream didn't melt so fast and even better if there was more seafood selection (clams and more fresh catch).

Review 78:I think the food in the hotel was a bit overpriced, as well as SPA services.

Review 79:We liked the most the beach with white sand and blue water! then spa was quite expensive but really nice, the internet was excellent, breakfast good as well, beach bar had really nice coctails from fresh fruits. Another good thing is that the hotel was really quiet, good for couples.

Review 80:Built on the side of a hill, this Hotel needs a lift, as access to perhaps 80% of all rooms, most restaurants and the beach have many steps. The builders detailing to the top priced rooms with beach frontage is very poor along with shingles falling from the roofs. External doors jamb constantly and the centre piece to this Hotel, the Pool, also requires a make over.

Review 81:Noisy air conditioner unit did make falling asleep difficult Stairs not really a problem helped in burning up cals from eating a great breakfast !!

Review 82:Everything Heard about the stairs but not really a problem, could affect families of young children, Easy walk to village handy for resturants As with all top hotels spa treatments, drinks etc expensive but village shop handy for stocking up on everything you could need

Review 83:As we travel with small kids the hotel have lots of stairs.

Review 84:The Hotel was good the food delicious, the staff very friendly. The private beach is a luxury in this area we love it.

Review 85:We were there in the middle of torrential rain and couldn't swim - let alone walk in the beach. We felt a little isolated as it's a fair walk back along their long (and impressive) driveway to the street... In the pouring rain.

Review 86:The Surin is well located right on the beach and the pool has a beautiful setting.

Review 87:I would say that if you are not great climbing stairs then be warned, the resort is on a hillside so from the reception and resturant to the beach is okay going down but coming up can be a slight effort.as there are no lifts. Apart from that small observation there wasnt anything we didnt like.

Review 88:Most everything about this resort was fantastic. The beach was beautiful and clean with amazing sunsets. The acomodation was great and the bed and pillows were very comfortable. The staff were great also, always smiling and very friendly and helpful.

Review 89:Food and drink were very pricey so we left to eat dinners and ordered from the people who walked up and down the beach selling drinks and snacks. The pool bar was outrageously expensive and most guests wisely bought from the hawkers. It is surprising they don't just reduce the prices at the bar and make a bit more money from guests. As it is now, the bar is hardly used. Lastly, as other reviews mentioned, there are a lot of steep stairs which didn't bother me much but people should be aware that there are no lifts at all and the resort is built on a hill.

Review 90:Atmosphere and beach were lovely and the individual cottages well positioned to take advantage of the views and grounds. Staff were amazingly attentive and friendly without seeming forced at all. Very enjoyable all around.

Review 91:food was reasonable but very overpriced - especially the thai menu.

Review 92:the location is pretty stunning - great little private beach and a short walk to the shops and restaurants in surin. if you get a beachside villa you can hear the sound of the waves as you sleep at night and walk directly onto the beach in the morning.

Review 93:- Breakfast is good but it would be better if hotel offers a small selection of different breakfast variety every day (maybe 10-15% new) cos you eat the same thing every morning for 5 days of your stay -Limited TV channels - Small shower room -All Else is fabulous

Review 94:- Great Service - Unlike other resorts which serve the caucasian well but frown on Asian, Surin Phuket delivers great service and makes you feel everyone is a respectable guest in their resort - Great Thai Food in their restaurant - Love their private beach - Great place to rest and relax

Review 95:Myself and two friends stayed at the Surin last week. We had an super time, we could not fault anything. The villa was beautiful - albeit the amount of steps was at first alarming, but we got used to them! The breakfast was incredible, we were spoilt for choice. We also ate at the Beach bar, the Italian and the Thai restaurants, all were fabulous. We will definitely return!

Review 96:Overprized, specially the SPA Staff at pool Stairs climbing Plastic bags at the beach next to the pool bar lying around for 2 days without removing Electrical cables at the beach lying around next to the palm trees and pool bar

Review 97:Beach Pizza Staff at reception Good location to reach other places (FantaSea, Phuket Town, Patong, Airport)

Review 98:Constant rain but of course not the fault of the Surin! Would have been better if there was entertainment at the hotel

Review 99:We really liked the seafront location and private beach, the sea was great to swim in. Staff were excellent very accommodating

Review 100:stormy weather during our stay. but it's not about the hotel. the surin is perfect!

Review 101:upgrade to deluxe cottage. wonderful sea view from our room. nice beach and lovely pool. the seafood platter provided in their Italian restaurant is highly recommended.

Review 102:Tv screen size small. bad attitude staff at pool bar and very poor English speaking . many steeps and distance when walking to pool and other facilities

Review 103:The room and beach access

Review 104:The laundry service was late at collection and delivery a few times despite of having been notified.

Review 105:The fact that they went the extra mile at providing to my requests.

Review 106:All the steps to reach you need to climb to reach your bungalow

Review 107:Everything. The management understands what a 5 star experience is. Decoration, food, kindness, services, and of course the privilege of the private beach

Review 108:The hotel was perfect all in all, with very friendly staff and great facilities. The only thing that we didn't appreciate was the fact that we booked the hotel for it's private beach access and the water sports facilities which were inaccessible because of the bad weather when we visited (in August). In the future it would be good if a note is specified about the availability of such activities in the website before paying a premium for the beach and not being able to use it.

Review 109:Not a downside - more a warning. The hotel is set on a hill therefore there are steps, steps and more steps to get everywhere. Not a problem, but just something some people need to be aware of

Review 110:A truly lovely hotel in a great location. The staff have to be the nicest I've ever met. The cottages are spacious and very comfortable and the hotel is a short walk to Surin beach. Having stayed in May hotels in Thailand, this is by far the best I've seen in Phuket.

Review 111:The staff and service were just perfect! We loved the room very clean and comfortable. There is a private beach to relax and a very nice swimming pool. We also tried the Thai restaurant which serves fantastic food with amazing tastes. We would definitely come back for holidays!!

Review 112:No lift or wheel chair access and expect a 60 step climb up and down to the pool / lobby areas . Property is on a hill so expect a climb and walwsy / steps to cottages spread across sprawling grounds.

Review 113:Cottages one , two or more bedrooms great for family or groups of friends. With access to its own beach ( pansea) and a good poolside service daytime poolside was the focus of the resort. The buggy service over the hill to the hotel entrance gets you within easy walking distance of some great beachside restaurants ( bimi / catch / audy ) and the italian deli beniiccino opp surin plaza on the main rioad into surin does a great meal. Only concern is whether all the beachsude plsces need to be removed in next 60 days.

Review 114:The place doesnt stand for any safety requirements.big death hazard for kids, specially for babies.they can easily fall down from 10m height in many locations.there are only a few rooms on the beach that are safe from fall, but then there is the direct access to the sea risk (and benefit) The access to the rooms, and facilities is by stairs only, its which are off standard steep and there is no elevator so the place is not accesible to disabled, elders or pregnant women.going to breakfast from the beach level is a morning excercise. Not good for everybody. Anti-slip precaution layer on the steps edge in the pool has caused me and my whole family scratches on the legs.I wish this amazing hotel could overcome the safety hazards,a few relatively simple acts would fix 80% of the problems.

Review 115:Amazing location on the beach, the beach suites are amazing !!! outstanding service, these guys think about any small detail. The reataurants is great. The staff is so friendly.I want to go back.If I say that after my comments for the safety, imagine how good it was.

Review 116:A lot of steps to go for breakfast (nice little morning exercise). Tricky currents in the sea.

Review 117:Beautifully designed bungalows, fabulous location by the sea, great staff, lovely food, all very relaxed. Our cottage right on the beach, with a climbing tree next door. Walking distance from the village yet nicely secluded.

Review 118:A cockroach in the bathroom, but it is Thailand! The pick-up car was late and it took us 30mins to find it. The hotel was very kind though and reimbursed us the difference with a normal taxi to make up for it.

Review 119:Amazing private beach with bar Very good food (2 restaurants and a bar) Beautiful 1-bed cottages (the ones further up the hill) The tree-house feel with all the stairs and cottages hidden away amongst the vegetation The breakfast (food and stunning views) The staff was amazing The pool is very nice All in all an absolutely perfect holiday.

Review 120:service is slow and not attentive

Review 121:great beach and pool

Review 122:We were not allowed to use the water sport facilities

Review 123:The staff were lovely and the villas were very quaint

Review 124:Beautiful setting, great private beach, pool and food all wonderful

Review 125:Paradise on earth...

Review 126:Wifi too slow & d aircon is too hot at noon time!! Too bad Seafood not fresh at all Veg ok

Review 127:I like d beach & d room

Review 128:Lovely helpful staff Beautiful and stunning location Amazing breakfast !

Review 129:Lots of steps

Review 130:Room is tidy

Review 131:-

Review 132:Private beach, stunning cottages, staff, food. Wonderful!

Review 133:breakfast could be improved

Review 134:Location, private ocean front beach, luxury stay at a budget, close to restaurants and bars around the surin beach area

Review 135:Nothing.

Review 136:Super beautiful hotel, and beach best i have seen so far. The small houses are also really beautiful.

Review 137:A little bit of a walk up a lot of steps to our little bungalow but apart from that we loved it!

Review 138:The private beach is amazing
