Reviews for Kingsgate The Avenue

Review 1:On second night we dined in restaurant had a fantastic starter and main course, when it came to desert we were informed that the chef had gone home sick and we're unable to have one which we thought was very poor, they could have asked us to select something before he went off has they were not that busy.

Review 2:Food very good in restaurant staff good.

Review 3:The extra blanket was needed albeit the nights were cold and the blanket did the trick. Breakfast area freezing but a heater was supplied.

Review 4:All of it really but the food was SO yummy. Wish I could cook poached eggs like the lady does.

Review 5:The room was very warm. The fan didn't really cool the room. Net curtains would be good so the curtain can be pulled back and privacy be retained. We were woken a number of times during the night by people shouting on the road - but there's not much you can do about that! :-)

Review 6:I was really impressed with the staff. They were so helpful helping me to organise flowers. Nothing was too hard for them and everything was done with a smile. Whilst dated, the room and the facilities were extremely clean. The room we used for our family reunion was great. Again the staff were fantastic and nothing was too difficult. Thank you for helping make our family reunion the great event it was.

Review 7:There is no air con in any room and it certainly doesn't state that in the fine print. Our room was street facing and had no screen door, so on a hot night the door would've had to be open to Mosquitos and compromise the security of the room just for a fresh breeze. The room had a pedestal fan only. Also the wifi is extremely poor quality and the street is very busy.

Review 8:We checked in and realised the room had no air con. I was travelling with my mother at the end of February, it was quite hot and she wouldn't have been able to deal with the heat. We asked to check out within half an hour of arriving and they gave us a FULL refund so that was great... It must happen to them a lot. Very close to supermarket and bottle shop.

Review 9:We didn't get offered the free wifi The $22 breakfast bacon&eggs was cold The iron was dirty and marked my white top

Review 10:We found the place clean, the bed comfortable

Review 11:Probably lounge and dining area probably due for an update but not complaining.

Review 12:the price, the beds, spacious room, handy carpark outside our door and overlooking grass and pool area. I did'nt notice if there was air con but with the height of the ceiling and roominess, it was'nt necessary.

Review 13:Our room was next to an entry door that was banging in the morning.

Review 14:Very clean hotel. Well presented breakfast hall. Friendly staff. Nice breakfast.

Review 15:We had to wait definitely too long for our evening meal but felt the lady serving us was working very hard and perhaps just insufficient staff on board for whatever reason,( Boating on River )

Review 16:The quality of the upgrade !

Review 17:The room was well ventilated and warm when we arrived and stayed at a nice even temperature throughout our stay. It was a well set out room with good facilities and a nice comfortable bed.

Review 18:Facilities are tired.

Review 19:Good location

Review 20:Nothing

Review 21:It was close to shops and nice cafe around the corner

Review 22:i didnt get her name

Review 23:the reception was cute :)

Review 24:On arrival the receptionist was so friendly and welcomed us with a big smile.

Review 25:The friendly staff, available parking at the hotel and the location. Also, the restaurant is great, but a pity the rooftop bar was not yet opened!

Review 26:Quite dated and the rooms were really hot no way of controlling the temperature.

Review 27:Great Location close to town and a lot of amentities

Review 28:Convenient for our purposes.

Review 29:Great place to stay, brilliant staff. Room was nicely modernised

Review 30:Three star hotel 5 star meals and staff

Review 31:The wifi was weak and didn't work well for me.

Review 32:Unhelpful staff, outdated rooms

Review 33:Very helpful reception staff.

Review 34:Helpful friendly receptionist

Review 35:Receptionist's complete lack of interest, even when asked about local restaurants. Gave a poor impression of the hotel.

Review 36:Room was clean.

Review 37:Clean. Tidy.

Review 38:Very friendly staff. Clean and tidy units.

Review 39:Rooms are tired. They had signs up that they were under refurbishment but I didn't see any signs of activity.

Review 40:Convenient. Acceptable standard.

Review 41:Not same as what the pics said on the room we selected And carting all bags up stairs isn't great expecily with a baby....

Review 42:Overall not to bad

Review 43:Dated room

Review 44:Service and food and location

Review 45:Hotel was dated & tired.

Review 46:Liked the location, restaurant food was good.

Review 47:The bathroom door had a hole in it and decor was dated.

Review 48:While being very good in most things I feel the rooms need a touch up.we will come back.

Review 49:dated

Review 50:location

Review 51:Awesome staff! really helpful

Review 52:There was no where to collect water from in our room, no coffee making facilities...i think the expectation was to get water from the bathroom??? Ewwww...but to be fair i didnt ask..... The bathroom was ok, needs upgrading for the price but i didnt like having to squeeze my car in at the further-est point of the carpark(no car parks left) because there was an event being held there. Well what about paying customers? They should take priority, Kingsgate you need to make sure your guests are looked after first not walk across the courtyard with arms full of things in the pouring rain.

Review 53:The receptionist was absolutely lovely, always smiled, took care of most of our needs. Despite my gripes i did enjoy my stay, it was warm ad very cosy. Thanks receptionist for making our night.

Review 54:That front doors close at 9.30pm and that we had to find the back entrance at 11.15pm in the dark and had to walk there at that time after parking the car in the front. There is no incentive to us to contd support each time we come to Wanganui

Review 55:Excellent in all respects

Review 56:Dated décor of room and bathroom. Very old heater - needs central heating. Lack of towel rails in bathroom. Hotel quite hard to find while driving past.

Review 57:Location to town. Size of room. Very clean. Friendly staff. Breakfast available in café. Relaxed atmosphere. Secure. Would stay again.

Review 58:Location and ease of access to local facilities and functions. Staff very accommodating to our requests for 'extras' while we prepared for our daughters wedding.

Review 59:Nothing it was very good value for money.

Review 60:A very pleasant welcome and booking in - nice clean room and off street parking. The supermarket was right next door and only a block or two from the town centre. It had everything we needed:) I would recommend this accommodation to others.

Review 61:Could have ashtrays for smokers by the pool...and pool was abit dirty

Review 62:Friendly staff and quiet environment...the beds were abit hard but no real complaints overall

Review 63:The swimming pool and the bath! Staff were very friendly and professional. The room was spacious and beds clean and comfortable. Walking distance to supermarkets and cafes. Would stay again.

Review 64:Could only stay one night. Would have loved to have stayed a few more. Plenty to see and do in Whanganui

Review 65:Great location, handy to shops and cafes, supermarket. Large spacious room, comfy bed, clean. Staff very friendly and helpful

Review 66:This was the most friendly and obliging hotel staff I can remember in over 50 years of hotel stays - nothing was too much trouble and done with a smile - even early breakfast.

Review 67:Possibly no fan for in the bathroom as a thought ? Room 866.

Review 68:Great welcome, offer to assist with any thing, meal offer later at bar when back & after restaurant closed - surroundings & food quality great - beer also good !

Review 69:The bathroom has seen better days and is in need of refurbishment. No extractor fan in the bathroom Your website is diabolical and unhelpful

Review 70:Location Food in the restaurant for dinner The waitress was excellent

Review 71:Found the Avenue Bar, food very average, but expensive for mains. Nothing has change in the decor for the last 15yrs, looking a bit tired.

Review 72:That the kitchen had good appliances, good tapeware including good shower rose. Seatee not comfortable at all.

Review 73:The whole place looks like it belongs in the 70's as a business traveller, when I pay 139.00 for a room I expect modern flat screen tv's 50 sky channels, vibrant modem furnishings, none of which apply at the Kingsgate. Rather dissapointing really, if these minor issues were addressed the Kingsgate would be first class

Review 74:The room was clean and the bathroom was spotless

Review 75:bathroom was quite old (shower in bath) and could do with a renovation to something more modern. My initial booking was mistakenly booked for the wrong date but a previous staff member (but cleared up to my satisfaction by the woman who checked me in). The large key for the room was cumbersome and annoying and they could do with upgrading to something more modern.

Review 76:My initial booking was stuffed up but the staff were very helpful in clearing up the confusion and sorting a comfortable room for me.

Review 77:I thought the room would be better suited with the single bed being on opposite of room as no room to get into queen bed on right hand side

Review 78:It suited our needs for a nights stay for a wedding.

Review 79:Availability of parking. Location. Although we had a roadside room near a busy street and thought it might be noisy it was very quiet - a real plus. The beds were very comfortable and we slept well. We dined in the restaurant and had a very nice meal. It was refreshing to see Mine Host working with his staff and talking to all the guests - a real plus in our opinion. We would certainly recommend it to other people and would stay there again.

Review 80:Dark dining room. Breakfast staff rather glum.

Review 81:Location. We stay at Kingsgate Hotels often and are usually rewarded for our loyalty with an upgrade or complimentary breakfast.

Review 82:Bathroom was tired and dated and could have done with some modernising.

Review 83:The satff were ver friendly even though we were only there for a 1 night stay I thought the food at the restaurant was good although a little expensive The room was adequate and teh beds comfortable

Review 84:We were put in an upstairs room, but would have preferred to be on the ground floor where we could have opened the ranch slider and sat on the lovely grass area outside the room. If we stayed there again I would request a downstairs room, as we love to be outside in good weather.

Review 85:The staff were very friendly, welcoming and informative about local attractions. The main reason I picked the hotel was because of its pool, which did not disappoint. We had two lovely swims, followed by sitting around by the pool. The only thing that would have made it better would have been some loungers - there were only tables and chairs, but these were adequate. We had a lovely dinner in the restaurant, great service and beautiful food.

Review 86:The wiring wasnt too hot not all the lights worked. Some flickered. No coffee plunger.

Review 87:I liked the Motel like accomodation with the ability to park outside my unit. Unit was well serviced every day.

Review 88:The room decor is tired and the bathroom really needs to be refurbished. There was no fan in the bathroom not a good idea given the room does not have any natural external venting e.g. a window. The staff tried to be helpful but didn't seem informed of basic information on huge event in town. It is like a rabbit warren, we struggled to find our way to the bar. Breakfast staff was more focused on clearing dishes than observing customers requiring help e.g. with coffee machine. Simple to those who know but not to those who don't. Salt and pepper shakers were put on the tables but no one checked that they had salt and pepper in them first - not a good look to guests.

Review 89:It was the venue for the event we were attending which is why we chose it. So it was location that we liked. The bed was comfortable. It was pretty good value for one night and two breakfasts at $155.00.

Review 90:Would have liked facilities to make own breakfast, toaster etc.Unfortunately was in upstairs unit where smoker was underneath and smokewafted up to our room.

Review 91:Handy location. Good price. Staff very pleasant.

Review 92:The room smelled odd, the room was very dated, and the fridge wasextremely small - too small for anything really. Some other rooms in thehotel were considerably nicer than the one I stayed in, for not much ofa price difference. For a hotel of this brand, I expected a nicer stay.

Review 93:The linen was good, and the beds and pillows were lovely.

Review 94:Restaurant staff at both breakfast and dinner were poor.

Review 95:The restaurant dinner was excellent.

Review 96:The bathroom facilities, the hot tap didn't work and made a terrible noise, overall it needs an upgrade.

Review 97:The location

Review 98:Bathroom turned into a steam room through lack of extractor fan.

Review 99:Friendly staff

Review 100:Front desk service during the day was poor.

Review 101:I liked th balcony

Review 102:comfortable bed very helpful staff

Review 103:nothing

Review 104:friendly and helpful staff, great meals, comfortable and clean

Review 105:Room a bit dated and hot water could be warmer

Review 106:The food and menue was very good. Room and bedding clean and tidy

Review 107:bathroom needs upgrading and def need a air condition it waas boiling hot at night

Review 108:location was very central close

Review 109:Beds were very uncomfortable

Review 110:Very dated rooms Bedding was stained and marked Breakfast was very average - overpriced and overcooked

Review 111:Friendly Staff Pool

Review 112:Bathrooms need updating. Meals a little pricey.

Review 113:Good food, good location, excellent facilities, ie gym, pool etc.

Review 114:People really friendly & helpful

Review 115:Hard pillows. Average meal. No airconditioning.

Review 116:Awesome young lady on front desk. Room upgrade. Comfortable bed with good reading lights.

Review 117:Leaving

Review 118:The Dining. The chef is great. Meals delicious and well presented. Waitress lovely too.Very happy with our stay.

Review 119:Good, spacious room.Clean, has minibar.

Review 120:The family unit was situated right outside the swimming pool

Review 121:mattress too soft.

Review 122:Very helpful staff

Review 123:The hotel charged a 4% fee for using a credit card that wasn't described when booking.

Review 124:Nothing to report here.

Review 125:Had everything I needed.

Review 126:Outdated decor, restaurant over priced,
