Reviews for Familie Hotel Alkmaar
Review 1:Nothing. The place was perfect and an amazing value.
Review 2:The place is located at the very center of Alkmaar's old town and shopping/recreational area. It's clean, has everything anyone would need and the staff is as nice as can be found.
Review 3:Nothing
Review 4:You could not get any closer to the centre of the city if you tried. Rooms were lovely and great value and our hosts were incredibly friendly and helpful. We had a great time and would love to stay again.
Review 5:Unfortunately it's a smoke-free structure, the trip outside in the cold wasn't always pleasant. We couldn't find any hairdryer, and the little explanation about the check out created a bit of confusion which turned out to be a 20min delay on our trip.
Review 6:Lovely apartment, 15min walk from the station, fully furnished with almost everything one might need when traveling, very cozy. Also perfect location, literally one step away from the city center, in between of two shopping streets.
Review 7:Nothing bad but be aware the stairs could be steep for some people.
Review 8:The owner was very friendly. Met us to show where the parking was and carried our bags to the apartment. The location was perfect with bars, cafes and the cheese market on your doorstep. On leaving the owner carried our bags to the car as well. I would certainly stay there again.
Review 9:Wifi didn't work at all, very hot room, aircon didn't stay on. No channels on TV only 3 DVDs provided. Not what we were expecting for the price
Review 10:Comfortable and clean, spacious room, very nice host, helpful with parking
Review 11:The owner was awful!!! Rud!! The parking was far away! We had been together with another cople without let usbknow beafore. Same kitchen same bath it was very unconvinon!! We were churched 25€ for beeing late iven that we let the place know about it and no where was written that someone will churge us for it. The only answer we got is go speek with booking so that what im doing.
Review 12:Nothing!!!!#
Review 13:There were steps to the apartment very high steps, it was very dangerous and hard to get there . no one told us that if our flight is late and the the check in is after 8 pm so we will be pay 25 euro more. The owner was so horrible and put us at the same apartment with more 2 cupple without let us know at advance . Also when we ask help with the bags he told us that we are lazy and for the end he told us that we can complaind at booking. I will never return there!!
Review 14:Nothing!!!!
Review 15:Waagtoren carillon bells can be a bit noisy at night especially if you are a light sleeper No free parking
Review 16:Very pleasant owner Nice city Good range of bars and restaurants Close to the centre
Review 17:Spoilt by a couple of inconsiderate people who were very noisy during the night. Some very steep stairs.
Review 18:Friendly owner who could not do enough to help.
Review 19:Internet conection not posible,i payd for brekfast but not have.PROBLEMWith parking place .only 2 space frome pension.
Review 20:It was nice becouse we was 2 people alone in 3 rooms with only 1bathroom,and becouse we find parking place.
Review 21:rear door non-hotel like entrance and communal showers and toilet being downstairs. Over priced for what it had to offer
Review 22:location being smack in the middle of Alkmaar , personnel was very nice
Review 23:There was a nespresso machine in the kitchenette, but no coffee pads.
Review 24:Friendly owner drove from his home to open the door even if we we're quite late in the evening and made a last minute booking. Just a good last minute night sleep :)
Review 25:Full of young people, I couldn't sleep because of their noise. Also it took me a long time to take a bath, because there's only on shower on the hotel.
Review 26:Near to the center, with all kind of restaurants only one block away. The train station is only 15 min by walk. They have a nice kitchen with everything that you may need.
Review 27:Shades kept falling down in the small room, they were going to fix it though!
Review 28:Owners were really nice and helpful. The rooms were clean and the location of the accomodation is in the middle of Alkmaar centre in front of a nice bakery. Would definitely recommend this place!
Review 29:It is not a hotel , it is rooms to let. I did not like that i was expecting something else. I booked three rooms and i saw that had common bathroom only in the confirmation. Moreover, the third room was inside the second. Despite the fact that they gave us another room the owner did not mention that we book an apartment and not a room. Not even answer my emails when i asked something 2 days before for the bathroom. Towels also were not clean.
Review 30:Location was perfect and the staff very polite, Room was very clean
Review 31:Excellent location bang in the middle of the historical city centre of Alkmaar. The flat was well appointed and had all we needed. It was also clean and cosy at the same time. Bob was super friendly and there was a good atmosphere in the city.
Review 32:The location was extremely helpful in terms of my next day's activity. There are some interesting Tourist Attractions as well as nice bars & restaurants nearby. The proprietor was very helpful and friendly.
Review 33:not good sleep ,very loud street
Review 34:in centrum of alkmaar
Review 35:We arrived v wet on bikes, the host gave us drying racks and was v helpful
Review 36:Noisie , dirty, uncorfortable . Only ONE small bathroom ONE square meter. Very bad experience
Review 37:This place was right in the city centre. Fantastic!
Review 38:runs by family members , very nice and helpful
Review 39:Shared toilet and bathroom, no free wifi
Review 40:Location was nice. Room also.
Review 41:Very friendly staff Great location in the center
Review 42:Great location! Very near to the cheese market and Alkmaar old town
Review 43:wc was separeted..
Review 44:We used to live in Alkmaar and really enjoyed this return visit. Good central accommodation with very welcoming hosts.
Review 45:View from skylight of local church
Review 46:Poor bed linen and bath towels. No air circulation in shower and toilet. Roof terrace unusable. Price breakfast expensive.
Review 47:The apartment was clean.
Review 48:the bathrooms to guest ratio.
Review 49:We liked the proximity to the town and the size of the rooms
Review 50:the entrance
Review 51:the rooms
Review 52:Wifi is very important to us and unfortunately we were not able to connect via wifi. Parking is quite expensive.
Review 53:The room was very spacious and clean.
Review 54:proximity of shower and wash basins making difficulties at peak times
Review 55:The central position. The kitchen which meant a coffee on return and a cup of tea of a morning.
Review 56:The room was at the ground floor and the main metal stair to go in/out is close by, which means that from 6.30 am onwards there are people passing by, not knowing there is a room at the ground floor. Very noisy. Note for international travellers: there is no reception, you need to call. Maybe a little bit expensive for a couple (the room has three beds).
Review 57:Bicycle safe inside parking, kitchen facilities.
Review 58:There was absolutely nothing to complain about - nothing negative to add at all.
Review 59:Owner was extremely pleasant and helpful. We did advise of our late arrival but that was no problem at all and we were received with a great welcome even though we had told him UK time arrival and of course it was an hour later in Holland!! The accommodation was excellent - quite luxurious actually and all was clean and welcoming. Definitely will get my family to come and stay there. Family hotel - yes definitely, everything catered with family in mind.
Review 60:- Strangely, I found the bathroom but never find the toilets
Review 61:- Wide and clean bedroom and kitchen- quiet neighbourhood - very nice welcome - free wifi - comfie beds
Review 62:For anyone with ambulatory issues it may be difficult to navigate thesteep stairways.
Review 63:Bob and Teeny are great hosts. We were comfortable in a clean apartmentstyle room opening onto a quiet deck. The hotel is located almost in thecentre of the beautiful old town. We rented bikes and were able to storethem at the hotel. We would return to this hotel.
Review 64:What a surprise beyond the gate and up the stairs to the roof tops. In the centre of Alkmaar beautifully refurbished store room above the shops. The room was spacious with a table setting, small lounge with TV and very comfortable beds. Adjoined bathroom facilities and kitchen was appreciated. Owners very friendly and helpful
Review 65:As toilet and bathroom are separalety and for all, have to wait a free time for both. Walls and windows are quite thin and all voices from outside ( August ) disturb to sleep, incl church bell after every 15 min.
Review 66:Good location, very nice staff.
Review 67:sharing the toilet and shower. It's wasn't a big problem for us as when we were staying there were no other guests. Think it could be a problem when the hotel is full.
Review 68:having the use of the kitchen so you can relax and eat your own food. Cuts down on cost too. It's right in the city centre out the door and you're at the shops. The couple who run it are very friendly and will do anything they can to make your stay enjoyable, they are very approachable. The rooms are quite big and clean.
Review 69:honestly the description of the hotel (pics and text) is a little not aligned with reality. one single toilet for all the structure is not sufficient. in our bedroom windows there weren't curtains so it was so easy to wake up early ..... price vs quality is not sufficient
Review 70:good position for city center. the owner is a nice person.
Review 71:I was not expecting shared bathroom and toilet. They were clean, butmade the value a little lower for the money. It is hard to get transportdirectly, since the hotel is located in a pedestrian area, although thisis a perk when heading out in the morning for fresh coffee at the bakeryacross the street from the entrance.
Review 72:The hotel owners are incredibly hospitable and arranged late check-in/pick-up from the train station. The rooms were clean and cutely decorated andthe staff members were very friendly. The location is incredible in thecenter of the city, very close to the canal, the cheese market onFridays and lots of shops.
Review 73:Shared bathroom with toilet and separate toilet, but no hand washing facility. Had to wait for main bathroom to be free. Access to the bathroom throught the shared sitting dining and kitchen area. The long narrow alleyway style entrance makes it feel like aback street position. The steep external stairs make it a very uncomfortable climb to the second floor rooms. The rooms are large enough to have on suite facilities without reducing the very spacious rooms. Future improvement are required to provide en-suite bathrooms in improve access.
Review 74:Large spacious very clean room for a family of 4, could even fit in extra beds. Breakfast was excellent. Friendly and helpful owners. Owners intention to add 2 new suites with en-suite bathrooms will vastly improve the hotel.
Review 75:I was surprised when I found out that the rest of the rooms, common bathrooms and toilets.
Review 76:The owners were very friendly and helpful. We've had a huge, stylish guest rooms, the air conditioning worked well. Really enjoyed ourselves!
Review 77:Steep steps to entrance up two flights (outside fire escape), potentially dangerous for young children as the gap between railing and steps is quite large. No other means of entrance. I would not choose to take my kids there again for that reason.
Review 78:Nice location and spacious room, friendly and helpful staff.
Review 79:The apartment the we had has one bathroom only, which is pretty tight for all the people that reserve a room. Although it is very clean and modern it makes it pretty uncomfy to watch out for others when you can use the bathroom.
Review 80:The house is pretty clean! Situated in the center of Alkmaar. The owners are kind and welcoming, especially the lady. Tv, wifi is provided!
Review 81:We had a wonderful two days staying in this lovely accommodation which is very spacious and spotlessly clean. The kitchen was a bonus and very well equipped to prepare our own meals which is great with children to feed. We could also come and go as it suited us which was very useful as the place is very central to all the attractions and shops. There is also a secure courtyard to store our bikes. The rooms are at the top of the building which is a bit of a climb, but worth it for all the roof top views you get of Alkmaar, giving the place a really sense of history. The owners were very helpful and easy going which helped us to enjoy our stay all the more.
Review 82:The birds were driving us crazy, tweeting it seemed 24/7. Also depending which room you get the noside from the street below is a disturbance. Our sheets weren't changed daily. Our room wasn't cleaned once during our stay, and we slept on the same sheets for 3 nights!
Review 83:Very accomodating staff Aand you are able to cook and fo laundry on site. Excellent location, right in the middle of town!
Review 84:we arrived around 7pm to find a note on the door asking us to call the owner to come let us in. It was only by chance that we had a phone with us, so this was not a problem, but what would we have done if we didn't have the phone or had run the battery down? We had no other was of contacting him.
Review 85:large rooms, clean, friendly and helpful owner, fully equipped kitchen facilities, quiet
Review 86:The staff were excellent arranged late check in. It was in the centre ofalkmaar and had great transport links. It cost around 10 euro on thetrain from the airport to alkmaar great place would staff again
Review 87:We asked for an invoice and we were promised that the owner would sendone via e-mail, but it never happened :-(Plus the stairs were very steep for children.
Review 88:When we were there The host was very friendly and helpful
Review 89:no wifi , share shower & toilet for 3 guests no reception you have to call by phone when you arrive but nobody answer we waited 20mn in the street befofre someone come
Review 90:Wi-fi signal was so poor that it could not be used. Could not even sign on. People who have trouble with stairs will have difficulty with shallow, steep stairs up to shower room.
Review 91:Easy to find, fairly close to rail station, very close to food and shopping
Review 92:There are just 1 toilett and 1shower room. And if you stay in a roomwhich is next to front door then you have to hear all the noise whenpeople coming and going out. And you have to hear noise from shower roomupstairs. When I was there some people came at 3a.M. And I also had tohear noise from shower room that time. And chenk in and check out time,I recommand you to speak with Bob before. Because he is not there allday especially at night and early morning.
Review 93:Good location. It is in central.
Review 94:Not recommended for children or seniors - very steep stairs, 2 flightsof them - right under clock tower which rings every 15 minutes, andpubs that turn out at 1am and 2am so barely any sleep all night -owners said no-one complained before but find that hard to imagine ! nodiscount offered, despite it appearing not to be the apartment weoriginally booked either and a rotten night ! - rooftop'smoking/sitting' area has no railings around it and asteep drop -
Review 95:Very clean and good facilities, right in the centre so good for theshops and sightseeing
Review 96:Het was voor ons de perfecte locatie in combinatie met de Halve van Egmond. Alles was netjes en de eigenaar was zeer vriendelijk. Toplocatie midden in het centrum. Aanrader voor iedereen
Review 97:1. This is not a hotel - its more like a house divided into rooms.2. Pictures on website are not accurate. I got a "room" in what I think was previously the living room of the house. 3. No privacy. Walls are really thin and you can hear every sound in the house. 4. Reception is in a bookstore situated in the lower part of the house. Only available during certain time of the day. 5. Bathroom/toilet are located on different floors from your room. 6. The owner was unfriendly and did not make us feel welcome. 7. Priced to high - I wanted to stay another night in Alkmaar and got a room at Grand Hotel Alkmaar for less than EUR 10 more on Booking.com. Short walk from Familie Hotel Alkmaar and included breakfast and had own bathroom.
Review 98:1. Location excellent - close to the Old Town. Very charming location.2. Lady Owner is reasonable and friendly.
Review 99:Not a normal 'hotel' - bedrooms upstairs at back of shop. Narrow entrance from street lined with shops - front door locked so you have to make phone call to gain entry for first time. Big lack of privacy - single room has double window doors to shared patio. People from upstairs bedrooms sit round patio table right outside your bedroom window. Thin walls also mean you can easily hear conversations in adjoining room - felt sandwiched. Didn't realise it wasn't en suite - shower upstairs, loo next to shared kitchen. Upstairs room probably preferable.
Review 100:Lovely lady owner to chat to. 2 mins walk to main canal/bar area. Sitting area in bedroom. Wi-fi ok.
Review 101:Super-friendly and helpful proprietor; immaculate apartment, perfectly well-kept. Very convenient to the cheese market and downtown; a mere moment's walk. Very spacious and light-filled, relaxingly spare decor, well equipped kitchen. Balcony with deck off one bedroom.
Review 102:The view of the clock tower is lovely through the skylight and althoughit didn't bother me too much, be aware that the clock goes off every 15minutes. As I mentioned before, the apartment is located on a busyshopping street with plenty of cafe's and restaurants which is a generalplus but keep in mind that there is noise from foot traffic on thestreet below even with the windows closed.
Review 103:This hotel actually is a series of apartments located in the busy oldcity center of Alkmaar. My apartment was located just steps away fromthe tourist information center in the cheese market, in fact a skylightwas purpose built in the apartment which looks directly upon the clocktower. The room was decorated in a black, white and stainless 'very'contemporary motif. There is a large main room complete with a diningarea, kitchen complete with cooking implements, television, sitting areaand two double beds. Also in this main room are two windows which openout onto the busy shopping street below. The bathroom is a nice size, there is an additional 'bedroom' with another 2 double beds and also arooftop patio area with a view across the rooftops of the city. It iscomfortable and spacious and the location is terrific if being in thethick of it is what you're looking for.
Review 104:The main room has a window on the rooftop without curtains. In the 2nights (21-22.06) I woke up at 5am with the light entering the room andcouldn’t sleep after. Also, the room is right next to Alkmaar’s Churchby the cheese market and you can hear the bells every 15mins. Cable tvalso didn’t work.
Review 105:The apartment is in the city centre, so the location is quite good. It's3min by bus or 15min walking from Alkmaar station. There are actually 2rooms, one very spacious with the kitchen and a smaller one. Up to 4people can stay comfortably here. The apartment is newly decorated, andvery clean.
Review 106:Mr and Ms Hafkamp were extremely kind and sweet with us and they were always concern about our comfort. They even went to the pharmacy when we needed you pills. Regarding the hotel, it is a nice cozy place. Everything is clean and the hotel can not be more centrical. I would recommend this hostel!!!
Review 107:We were not pleased about with the communal use of the shower, toilet & kitchen facilities which we were not aware of until another party booked in.
Review 108:The rooms were very large, clean & the hotel is based in the centre of the town.
Review 109:The rooms didn't look like the pictures on booking.com at all. The roomitself was ok tho. There were two single beds in the room instead of adouble bed, and they were a wee bit uncomfortable.the room rate was way too high ... especially for a room that was supposed to be 90sqm big, which actually wasn't more than 30sqm. shared kitchen, toilets and bathroom was also not so much our thing. the free wifi connection didnt work.
Review 110:The location is in the centre of Almaar. It is better to ask the ownerto send you a detailed map. We took long time to find it.
Review 111:The owner is very nice and friendly. Room is very comfortable and clean.
Review 112:Friendly, helpful owners. Central location in Alkmaar. Comfortable beds. Excellent facilities (incl washing machine) with high standard of cleaniless.
Review 113:It is not a hotel with a lobby etc, just rooms in a flat above a bookshop. Walls are too thin, you can hear every noise from next door.
Review 114:It is very central and the owners are very helpful. It served thepurpose for a short stay.
Review 115:Had to share a bathroom and toilets with 2 other families.Walls of apartment quite thin therefore noise from shared communal kitchen area , sometimes early in the morning
Review 116:Bob Hacamp proprietor very accommodating , friendly and helpful.Excellent central quiet location. Apartment spacious
Review 117:Very nice place, everything alright.
Review 118:Pesonal was very nice, room was clean and comfortable.
Review 119:The shared bathroom.
Review 120:Clean room and helpful staff
Review 121:Everything was great. Right in the center. Lots of space in the room. Bob was great with us. Perfect.
Review 122:fire escape as entrance
Review 123:spacious pleasant accommodation, friendly staff.
Review 124:Very good hotel, located in the heart of Alkmaar.
Review 125:Eventhough i did not notice when i was booking it that it was shared bathroom it was kept very clean
The Fine Print
