Reviews for Day Waterfront Hotel
Review 1:None
Review 2:Extreamly helpful personal, speaking nice to perfect english. Comfortable and clean rooms. Lao boarder crossing service, transport + personal guidance on both sides of border.
Review 3:A rare gem in todays fast paced World. Respectful owners who treat the guests with genuine concerns for their individual needs. Truly a home away from home.
Review 4:Rooms very basic and simple, lacking comfort and decoration. Absolutely ok for a one night stay, but wouldn't like to stay there for much longer
Review 5:Unbeatable location with rooms with balcony facing the Mekong river. A bit out of the city centre but small restaurants, bars and supermarkets in short walking distance. Fantastic staff, extremely friendly! Providing all necessary documents for crossing the border to Laos. Officially no breakfast included, but they prepare coffee, some pastries and bananas. We mentioned that we like sweet sticky rice with mango, so they organized sticky rice with banana for us from the market the next morning! Thanks again for your great hospitality!
Review 6:We went by car. It was a little difficult to find.
Review 7:Fantastic and beautiful view over the Melong River, and a really friendly service by the owners of this smaller hotel in the middle of town.
Review 8:This was my second visit. The Day Waterfront is a 15-room hotel, on the banks of the Mekong. Rooms have views across the river to Huay Xai in Laos. Rooms are clean, with wi-fi and air-con. Prices are moderate. The hotel serves breakfast on the terrace; free coffee is available all day, as are snacks, soft drinks and beer (not all free). There is no restaurant, but restaurants are available nearby. Just round the corner on the main road is the EasyTrip travel agency which will arrange trips to Laos. A major attraction is the owners, who are extremely helpful and friendly, and English-speaking. I hope to stay there again next year.
Review 9:Absolutely perfect for a night before boarding boat to cruise the Mekong. Spotlessly clean & comfortable with tasty breakfast included. Beautiful terrace overlooking the river. The owners were warm and welcoming.
Review 10:nothing :-D
Review 11:The most friendliest owners! I had a little accident with my scooter and they would make sure that I was perfectly fine. All rooms have River views and you can see the Lao town of Huaxsay. 5min walk to restaurants / markets in Chiang Khong. Clean and big rooms with balcony. Excellent value!
Review 12:A little far from border but only takes 10 minutes in tuk tuk (150 THB) and the hotel staff can arrange early morning pick up. Minimum furniture in rooms, a bedside table would be useful.
Review 13:Friendly, helpful staff. Immaculately clean rooms. Lovely view of river. Great cafe/restaurant over the road. You can help yourself to toast, cakes and tea and coffee for breakfast and I was given bananas and water to take to the boat plus all the forms necessary for the Lao visa to save time at the border crossing.
Review 14:The owners are extremely helpful in guiding you through the sometimes tricky process of travelling to Laos from Thailand. The view from the balcony across the Mekong is lovely.
Review 15:The staff at Day Waterfront Hotel is truly amazing! When we asked to phone our previous hotel to inquire about how to get back our wallet we left behind there, Day Waterfront Hotel took over. They talked to the staff of our previous hotel (Huen Chan Thip in Chiang Rai), found out who was bringing the wallet.and their phone number, and they organized the pickup of our wallet and delivered it directly to our room. Despite all of that there was no way they would accept any money to reimburse them for their efforts! Regarding the hotel itself: It was very clean. the rooms were spacious, the bed comfortable, the view from the balcony was great. The hotel is at the end of Chiang Kong. A pleasant river side walk way or the main road leads into "town". Not only did we receive a small free breakfast even though that is not part of the deal, we even got a small lunch package to take with us! Highly recommended!
Review 16:No bedside tables at all - the only furniture was a desk, chair and two beds.
Review 17:The proprietors could not have been nicer in their desires to make our stay enjoyable: carrying our luggage up the stairs, helping us to fill out visa forms for Laos, providing a free breakfast! Terrific views of sunrise and moonrise over the river, easy access to the town and the River walk.
Review 18:- friendly, helpful staff - although no "official" breakfast is served, we were taken good care of with fruit, cookies and sticky rice in the morning - in the evening, candle lights were lit to ensure a beautiful view on the Mekong
Review 19:It's the people here who make this a great place to stay for the money. And the great views across the Mekong. It is quite far from anything and the room, while large is very Spartan. But Kai and Yeo are lovely.
Review 20:We had a lovely view over the Mekong. It was lovely to sit on our balcony and watch the sunset. The room was clean and comfortable. The owner was very friendly and helpful - he gave us the papers for our visas and all the information required for the Thailand/Laos border crossing, he booked us a tuk tuk to get to the border in the morning and gave us a package of bananas and sticky rice parcels for our trip. Even though breakfast wasn't included there was coffee/tea, bananas, Laos pastries and sticky rice parcels to eat. Finally the location was convenient to some reasonable eateries and one exceptional cafe almost opposite.
Review 21:We booked the hotel as we needed an overnight stay before crossing over to Laos and catching a slow boat at 8am the following morning. As the Laos government has moved the boarder post some 10 to 15 kilometer back from the center of town the hotel is definitely not well located relative to the border post. On a personal note - I found the bed impossibly hard, the sheets made from some sort of synthetic fabric (& lime green) and the eclectic selection of tiles, curtains, decor etc could cause nausea in design / decor sensitive eyes!
Review 22:River view was great The hotel offered us breakfast free (was not included in the room rate) - very nice touch. The staff / owners were very helpful and friendly.
Review 23:I recommend not to take the travel -ticket to Luang Prabang with the operator (Easy Trip) that they have in the hotel. They say it's very helpful and you safe time. It's not true. You can easily do it by yourself.
Review 24:We stayed one night and it was a pretty good experience. Small family hotel, friendly and helpful staff and amazing views.
Review 25:No complaints whatsoever!
Review 26:The couple who runs the guesthouse are both amazing. They picked me up from the bus station when my tour dropped me off there instead of the hotel. The lady was so considerate, making sure to pack extra fruit for my 2 day boat journey. Free coffee and treats were great! Really clean rooms with great views of the river. Excellent wifi.
Review 27:Everything!!!! The owners were amazing, so friendly and couldn't do enough for you. They organised our bus to Bangkok and even packed snacks for us to take which we wouldn't expect. Lovely clean rooms great views. Would recommend to anyone!!!
Review 28:Nothing!
Review 29:The hosts of the hotel were very nice! They've helped us with organizing our boattrip to Laos and were just easy to chat with. Breakfast was not part of the deal, but very early in the morning they prepared us some nice snack as breakfast and packed a bunch to take with us to the boat! Very very good!
Review 30:The couple who run the hotel are so friendly. They organised all of our trips for us and have us little extras that we weren't expecting like bananas to take with us on our journey on from them. Lovely stay, would definitely reccommend.
Review 31:No restaurant on site but there is one nearby.
Review 32:Great location with good view of Mekong river, clean and spacious room, very good wifi connection, complimentary simple breakfast. Owners spoke excellent English and were very friendly and helpful to guests.
Review 33:Slow boat scam. I bought the ticket for the slow boat from the hotelmanager for 1,350 bahts with packed lunch and tuk-tuks to the border andfrom the border in Laos to the pier. The ticket turned out to be fromEasytrip agency just round the corner in the main road. For a start youpay him and he tells you he will give you a ticket next morning, he islying, he never does. A tuk-tuk comes to pick you up in the morning andfrom then on they never tell you what's going on. A girl gives you asticker at the border and somebody waits for you at the other side. Sheis in charge of a bunch of us with different stickers from differentagencies. A tuk-tuk picks you up after waiting 1 hour for all thepeople. They say they take you to the pier but they stop on the way by aa shop. A guy comes and tells you he is going to be your guide all theway to Luang Prabang, lie, you won't see him again once you leavethe shop. He tells you you cannot buy drinks or food on the boat afterjust that month new regulations, lie, you can buy beer and food on theboat. He tells you that's the last stop before boarding to buy allyou need for the trip, lie, there are two shops by the pier. He alsowarns you to exhange money there, lie, you can pay in bahts all the wayto Luang Prabang. You are only given the ticket by the woman whowelcomed you in the Laos border in the pier, keep it cause you'llneed it in Pakbang the next day. Truth is you don't have manyoptions due to the tuk-tuk mafia that will always try to chargeforeigners more, and the boat ticket is 950 bahts anyway. But I feltcheated by the hotel manager who sold me the ticket.
Review 34:Hotel is ok for one night before taking the slow boat
Review 35:Bed was a bit hard but ok for what we needed.
Review 36:The owners were amazing, so helpful. They help us organize our slow boat down to lauag prabang, also transfers and board crossing documents. They also gave us free bananas and water for our journey
Review 37:leaving - i wanted to stay for weeks not just 2 days
Review 38:what did i like ??? everything about this hotel, the couple who own this hotel are the nicest people you will meet in Thailand, where do you get hosts that go early to the morning market and get fresh local foods for your complimentary breakfast ??? they do at day waterfront !!!!!, all rooms have large windows and a balcony with a perfect river view. if you need any information the hosts know it all - local maps, great local places to eat overlooking the river, motorbike hire, markets, river cruisers, bus information, they will call a tuk tuk for you and you pay the right price ect ect, oh and i was constantly amazed at their near perfect English and humor and their warmth every time you walked into the hotel, you feel like their friend not their guest, i will be back again one day at this 3 star hotel with 6 star service :-)))
Review 39:Owners were fantastic. View of Mekong fans Laos from balcony was great. Participating in the giving of alms to the monks on the weekend. We really like staying here, as the rooms were clean and comfy. We also really appreciated the owners' willingness to share info and genuine concern that we enjoy our stay. Can't imagine a better place in town.
Review 40:nothing
Review 41:friendliest hotel Owners ever! they are incredibly friendly and helpfull. got drinks and cookies when we arived. they speak fluently english. got an amazing breakfast and snacks for our trip, almost felt like they were our parents! perfect place for crossing the border (they arrange it all)
Review 42:No safe and no breakfast - they have a gorgeous terrace, which would be a great brekkie spot. Worth saying that there was always fruit available at reception and also there's a great restaurant down the road, Chiang Kong I Love You, where you can get a great breakfast for a very reasonable price. Think we paid 300 Thai baht for two.
Review 43:This great little hotel has a balcony in every room and every room looks out across the Mekong River to Laos. It was absolutely stunning. The rooms are basic and the beds a bit hard, but walking along the river bank, it is among the best hotels in offer. Best of all, the owners are wonderful, they made sure we had everything we needed for our Laos visa and were in contact with our cruise company to make sure everything was ruining on time. Highly recommended.
Review 44:Loved it all.
Review 45:The couple who own it could not have been more welcoming, hospitable and helpful. The view from the room was stunning. Easy walking along the river and through town The room was very comfortable and very clean. Lots of treats to eat, even though breakfast was not included.
Review 46:my only criticism of the property was "no English tv station" Chiang Khong has little night life besides the bar scene and evenings can be long and boring
Review 47:excellent location, owners extremely gracious and helpful
Review 48:Very friendly and supportive owners. A lovely array of breads and sweets and coffee/ tea Great guidance to transport, eating places and places to visit
Review 49:Nothing to dislike!
Review 50:Very friendly and nice owners. Staying at the Day Waterfront, a guest feels at home. All day there is free coffee and tee and free fruits, e.g. bananas or pineapples. The high rating I gave for facilities and comfort needs to be seen in relation to the place. It is, of course, not a five star place. But in many five star places you would never find such nice owners! When we left in the morning, we got some bananas to take with us. Maybe a small thing but not seen everywhere!
Review 51:There is nothing to dislike about this place.
Review 52:The hosts are extremely friendly and helped us chose the right way of crossing to Laos. They seem to geniunely care about their guests and offer a lot of support. Room was the cleanest we saw anywhere with amasing view over the boarder, great terrace as well. Loved our short stay here!
Review 53:The couple that own/run the place are exceptional hosts, with a great sense of humour! Absolutely loved our stay here, would have extended if our visa allowed. Clean, comfortable and amazing views over the river, just can't fault it!
Review 54:Extremely helpful and friendly staff. The staff made me feel welcomed right away. Perfect english was spoken and they will set you up with everything you need to cross the border. They can also have your laundry done at fast and reasonable price.
Review 55:I was told that this place was close to ferry, and in town centre. It was an hour away from airport, no one was in the resort but us and a few locals that were partying. Found cigarette buts outside my balcony in the morning. Did not feel safe and would not recommend this place to solo female travelers. I blame the agent at the airport more than anyone for steering us to this one. She did not listen to our needs
Review 56:Not much.
Review 57:The owner is very nice person with a lot of useful information about crossing the border. He speaks English perfectly which is really appreciated. The room has view to the Mekong river, it is clean and spacious. You can buy the ticket of the slow boat with the owner at a very good price without going to any agency and they pick you up from the hotel.
Review 58:rooms are a little clinical with all the tiles and no furniture, but easy to keep clean, thats the price ;) used to be close to border transfer before they build the new border bridge out of town, but this problem have all the hotels there
Review 59:clean simple unemotionel tiled room, big windows with balcony and georgeus view on the river and laos, very nice owner, showed us morning ceremony with the monks in a respectful way, wanted to help us with border transfer but did not push us, so I organised it cheaper myself to pay a dearly price for less comfort, more stress just to save a few euro ;)
Review 60:Leaving
Review 61:Our 2 days spent here were excellent, Kai the owner, deserves more than 5** as he is such an amenable person, nothing is to much trouble. He organized transport etc for when we crossed into Laos which took alot of hassle out of our journey.
Review 62:We stopped over for the night before taking the two day cruise to Luang Prabang. The owner was super helpful and welcoming and informative. He speaks excellent English. The hotel is perfect and we would return happily. Chiang Kong is worth visiting. A very quiet and interesting place.
Review 63:The owners made us feel welcome the second we arrived at the front of the hotel. They were really helpful and genuine. The room was really nice with a balcony and view on the Mekong. Wifi was very good too.
Review 64:The bed was ultra firm. But for one night we could mange.
Review 65:The hotel is very friendly and staff are so helpful. As we were joining a Mekong cruise the next day they helped us with all the documentation for Laos visas, even organising photos which we had forgotten to bring. The breakfast in the morning was a special treat. Sticky rice and good strong coffee.
Review 66:Having to leave!
Review 67:This hotel is managed by the owners who are husband and wife. The attention to detail, local knowledge, expert guidance and proactive help is way beyond expectations for budget hotel
Review 68:The room was very basic although adequate for our needs
Review 69:The owners were really helpful and friendly. They made sure that our transfer for our crossing to Laos went smoothly
Review 70:The Thai karaoke at a bar nearby was very loud and kept me awake all night. However I am a light sleeper and it didn't bother my friend who stayed in the room next door
Review 71:The hotel was clean and had everything needed for a night or two....and the rooms were huge. The owners were very helpful and it was a pleasure to stay here. We only had one night before crossing to Laos but would have loved to have stayed a few more
Review 72:very little not to like...
Review 73:fast wi-fi super-clean hotel how water in shower...bed easy to sleep on... rate good..well worth the price Owners are very friendly and helpful..and they speak English!! fruit, coffee and other items for breakfast.. patio one floor down again with a fantastic view of Mekong River and Laos on the other side.
Review 74:The owner will take care of you and do whatever she can to help you, arrange your further trip, offer you coffee, cookies and bananas. Very good cheap hotel!
Review 75:Absolutely nothing.
Review 76:The welcome by the owner. Her recommendations for where to eat. Bamboo restaurant just down the street. Amazing to get exceptional Mexican Food in a small town in Thailand. View of the Mekong from our room. This is not a five star hotel however it gets five stars for what it offers at its price point.
Review 77:We have arrived late in the evening at 10 pm, but Kai and his wife has arranged our boat trip to Luang Prabang and also organized our boarder crossing next morning.
Review 78:swimming pool and bar/restaurant on balcony over looking Laos would make it perfect.
Review 79:The owners who's names I have unfortunately lost, are exceptionally welcoming, friendly and helpful. Rooms are bright, light, clean and spacious with excellent view accross the Mekong to Laos.
Review 80:Only the fact that I only get to spend one night there. This is a wonderful place and I could not recommend it more highly.
Review 81:Everything! The hosts were the most friendly and helpful I have ever met. When I first arrived the lady rushed to make me sit down and offered me a cup of tea then books on the places I was going to. I thought breakfast was not offered but the next morning there were a selection of delightful Thai dishes wrapped in banana leaves with tea or coffee. Not only was the place spotless and the room large and well appointed but I had a wonderful terrace on the Mekong river. I was very sorry I did not spend more time there.
Review 82:Nothing I can think of!
Review 83:Location overlooking the water and close to town. Value for money. Hosts were brilliant! Free coffee/tea and light breakfast in the morning was a surprise as was letting off a chinese lantern in their beautiful patio at night.
Review 84:The owners are just lovely. They are so welcoming and friendly. they greeted us by name everytime. It's just the little extra that you need and it makes your stay so pleasant! They offered us bananas and they were delicious also the sticky rice for. Breakfast was great! Totally recommended!!!
Review 85:There were no comfortable chairs in the room, or bedside tables or lamps. The room was enormous and could have done with a bit more furniture.
Review 86:The owner Kai and Yao, made us feel so at home and were very helpful. We stayed 4 nights and were sad to leave. Location was a vit on the edge of town but right opposite the Mekong and great views of Laos. They provided sticky rice and other delicious treats for breakfast with free tea and coffee, biscuits and bananas all the time.
Review 87:There is nothing I didn't like.
Review 88:The staff were incredibly friendly, offering us tea and fruit when we arrived and making us a small bag of fruit and cake for the slow boat journey, they offered us a package for the slow boat but were not at all pushy about it. The views from the hotel were stunning.
Review 89:Considering the price, there was nothing I did not like.
Review 90:The premises are spotless and the location right on the river superb. The staff is friendly and absolutely delightful. The lady who was there was very sweet and make one feel so special.
Review 91:the really poor lighting in the room and lack of bedside lamps.
Review 92:Location, welcoming, friendly and helpful hosts. Comfortable and spacious and spotless room. The best thing was the hosts - it was like staying in a really good BnB. Totally recommend this hotel as a perfect place to stay in this town.
Review 93:Mattress in room 4 was rock hard, slept very poorly, we are not normally fussy but it really was uncomfortable.
Review 94:Location, view, owner, service, value for money, tea and coffee facilities, A/C.
Review 95:As every place around. Internet is very bad.
Review 96:Excellent location. Big room and balcony. Clean. You can see the river lay down in your bed. Don't serve breakfast but you can have next door for very few Baht.
Review 97:The owners of this hotel are superb hosts and very helpful. Border crossing is now a little bit away from the village, but a car can pich you up to bring you all the way to the slow boat site in Laos. Worth the money to take an all inclusive border crossing.
Review 98:Beds were firm and the air conditioning rather loud.
Review 99:Cheerful, friendly, welcoming owners who were keen to provide any advice and assistance to make your stay pleasant. Without asking, they confirmed our arrival with the Nagi of the Mekong cruise and arranged our transport. Free coffee and tea were available along with home-made cakes, delicacies and fruit before our early morning departure. Location overlooks the Mekong across to Laos.
Review 100:Honestly, there is absolutely nothing.
Review 101:The owner and his wife are quite simply the friendliest people I have ever met. From the outset, they went above and beyond to make our stay an extremely memorable experience - from giving us umbrellas in the rain to buying us local produce for our trip the next day. The rooms are huge, AC and spotless. Our only regret was that we didn't spend more time there. Finally, there is a great bar several metres on the left as you exit the hotel - again very friendly and accommodating! If you do not stop here after arriving from or going to Laos then you are seriously missing out on a genuine gem.
Review 102:Managed by a very friendly and helpful couple, who takes very good care of the guests. The view from the room/ the balcony of the room over the Mekong (with Laos on the other side) is really beautiful. One can relaxe there very well, because the hotel is lying quietly (not directly at the street).
Review 103:Nice and clean with an awesome view of the Mekong River. Owner Mr Kai is the nicest host we've had after 3 months of travelling. Highly recommend.
Review 104:Bugs and mozzies, but standard for that location. A bit spartan, but good value nonetheless.
Review 105:Budget hotel usually for overnighters waiting for the slow boats into Laos. Good value and owner is friendly and helpful.
Review 106:Nylin sheets are slippery but this is a very minor thing.Bed is comfy and room has everything you need.
Review 107:The most wonderful welcome like coming to the home of a favourite aunt and uncle our hosts received us so warmly. They made us feel welcome and helped us do much.the place is new and sparkling clean.Room is comfy with big shower.we took only fan and view from balcony is fantastic.
Review 108:The beds were a litte hard!
Review 109:The owners were super friendly and helpful and the view of the Mekong was lovely
Review 110:- outstanding friendly owners - balcony with stunning river view
Review 111:Nothing
Review 112:The view, the brilliant staff and the very cheap price.
Review 113:Very friendly staff. Excellent location.
Review 114:Friendly and helpful staff. Quiet. Private balcony.
Review 115:Hospitality and Cleanliness
Review 116:Nothing.
Review 117:From the warm welcome to the farewell, I could not fault this place. Best place I stayed in Thailand
Review 118:Very helpful staff and service, complementary food and nice facilities.
Review 119:Everything
Review 120:My second stay in 2 months Great staff, owners on site and involved in their business. Clean, convenient and good value for money
