Reviews for Ossies Motels and Chalets

Review 1:It looked run down from the outside, everything was very dated, there was no manager on-site, so the whole experience felt very impersonal and made it quite depressing.

Review 2:The only positive about this place is the fact that it was clean.

Review 3:Need to drive to town centre for supermarket and restaurants. We were woken up by dogs' barking at 5 am when we expected a quiet night at such a location.

Review 4:Convenient mid-point stop between Tongariro National Park and Palmerston North

Review 5:The sofa was very uncomfortable. (Maybe it was a bed settee.) A cobweb problem in the bathroom/toilet area.

Review 6:Staff very helpful. Pleasant environs. Nice and quiet.

Review 7:Barking dogs at the property across the road kept us awake. I assume they don't do that every night.

Review 8:Clean, compact and comfortable. A welcome stop over.

Review 9:Little bit of a walk to town but good to get some exercise after a day in the car!

Review 10:Great little chalet. Everything was clean and liked the lounge area and separate bedroom upstairs. Didn't meet the owners but instructions were clear. Very reasonably priced.

Review 11:Internet a bit poor at times. Needs some sorting. Had a vinderloo from the local Indian takeaway. About as lively as Heinz baby food!

Review 12:Nice big rooms. Free internet and washing facilities.

Review 13:Nice wooden chalets - puts you back to the feeling to be in Austria. And everything works. The operator is most helpful - but don't mistake him for a famous film star, even he resembles one very much in his looks.

Review 14:A little small and tight fitting - stairs to the top rooms are steep for older/elderly people

Review 15:It is comfortable for a night or 2. Basic accommodation - but being in this part of the world you probably don't need a lot more. I would recommend to friends and family - just don't have too high expectations. Clean and comfortable is all you need.

Review 16:none at all.

Review 17:Totally loved this little log cabin and would have loved to have stayed longer. super warm at night, lots of space (only 2 of us in a 6 bed). cute kitchen and friendly staff.

Review 18:Beautiful spot with friendly staff. Clean & tidy accommodation. Had a mix up with our booking but they rectified it in a friendly and helpful manner, much appreciated.

Review 19:No staff on site, but a number provided. A smell of stale urine pervaded the kitchen and bathroom, but otherwise clean. Decor could do with an update.

Review 20:On the edge of town, so very quiet and with views over the countryside..

Review 21:The manager of the property was no where to be found. If we had had a problem, I am not quite sure how we would have been able to solve it. (There was a phone number provided, and an envelope containing the key and a letter).

Review 22:Ossies was exactly what we were looking for. We went for a couple days of skiing and found Ossies at the last minute. The place was perfect for us (a young family).

Review 23:We would prefer have everything in one floor rather two floors (upstairs bedrooms) because the children, but that gave up more room downstairs to do something (watch tv, talk) once kids went to sleep.

Review 24:Clean Close to the Village Quite Full equip: kitchen, etc... Nice views Wifi working well and fast

Review 25:Owners were extremely helpful. There was lots of room outside for our little grandchildren who brought their bikes to ride and it was safe. Honest people

Review 26:The room was not very clean, there was hair in the toilet and bathroom areas. The stairs were very steep and a constant worry with young children, the hand basin in the toilet was really annoying, it would be better if it wasn't in there at all. The price was great however I think the cleaning has suffered from that, I would have been happy to have paid more for a clean room, also the shower curtain was disgusting.

Review 27:We liked the price and location.

Review 28:Limited hot water. Not enough for 4 people to have showers and after a days skiing we feel this is a necessity. Also the shower leaked onto the bathroom floor.

Review 29:Liked the location and the self catering facilities were excellent with a full sized oven etc.

Review 30:The tv was so quiet we had to move the couches close. The wifi cut out after a few minutes each time so we gave up on it in the end

Review 31:Clean and comfortable. Could see the mountain a little.

Review 32:there were a few cobwebs hanging from the ceiling which needed to be removed

Review 33:very quiet location and chalet was very warm. Kitchen facilities were excellent and shower was spotless

Review 34:Though clean the chalets were dated (furniture etc). The heat pump kept upstairs very toasty but downstairs was cool. The TV reception was shocking.

Review 35:The facilities were clean and the staff friendly and helpful.

Review 36:I loved staying here the staff were very friendly and helpful. They even started the fire so the house was warm when we arrived. This place is excellent value for money and I will look at booking there again in the future.

Review 37:I booked the room and then got an email to say that linen cost$30 extra. There was no mention of this earlier, but they waived the fee for this reason. Room cold when we arrived and took all night to heat up the unit.

Review 38:Comfy beds, easy convenient and clean basic accommodation.

Review 39:The staff at the Ossie's are very friendly and helpful. John has been a great host and our requests are always being accommodated as best as possible. Great value for a place as such! Definitely will keep going back.

Review 40:- Not walking distance to shops/nightlife

Review 41:- Good location - Quiet - Good quality furnishings and amenities - Ski/Board hire available onsite - Nice, polite staff

Review 42:the Wifi didn't work at all. We were told that our unit was quite far from the office so it doesn't work n if we want to use we should come close to the office. They should state this on their description of the features of units so we can consider whether we still stay or not without Wifi

Review 43:I like the firewood which makes us very cozy n warm days while we were there.

Review 44:Extremely friendly and helpful staff. Great sized lodge for our group of 5 (3 adults and 2 kids -7 & 9 years old). A happy and positive experience for all.

Review 45:The staff didn't have knowledge of the area. There was no microwave as advertised. The stair were so loud and creaky it woke everyone if someone came downstairs to use the bathroom.

Review 46:The accomodation provided enough space, basic amenities and was well heated

Review 47:Thanks for a great stay. Three adults and two young children. Motel unit was clean, warm and well equipped with everything we needed. Was a little worried it was going to be cold in the unit as we were coming from Aus and temp was a massive drop for us but unit was well heated. Location to the mt ruapehu was great. Great value for money! PS beautiful veiw of the mountain when clouds are cleared.

Review 48:We were happy with the location and area, was very nice, my kids loved it and had a ball, and tell me they want to go back there. Staff were friendly would definitely go back again

Review 49:We really enjoyed our stay, the staff were very lovely & helpful. They made our stay very enjoyable and will recommend to all our friends. The wifi wasnt the best quality from unit 16 but that made our whole family communicate instead of using electronic devices :)

Review 50:I felt quite itching around my body after the first night...not sure if it was bed bugs or mosquitoes There was not enough hot water for 10 people to have consecutive showers, water pressure was quite low

Review 51:Quite spacious and the free wifi was nice Adaquate kitchen facilities

Review 52:I loved the fact that after a long day at the snow we walked in to a warmed up chalet and had somewhere to hang and dry all our clothing ready for the next day

Review 53:The place was gorgeous absolutely loved that we were surrounded by hills and the mountain in the view. The eco friendly approach with recycling bins provided your wood burning fire supplied the heating to water and to the house. You were in your own house basically for three days.a

Review 54:Need to work on their cleanliness, saw 2 mice run out in front of us, they nibbled through all our food, very disappointed that we had to throw food out. Couch was very uncomfortable (old and marked) to sit let alone sleep so were the bunk beds. The top floor and stairs creaked and made a terrible noise, disturbed people sleeping downstairs. no proper reception on TV. In total it was a rip off for the amount that we paid

Review 55:The location, was central to both Ski fields

Review 56:Bed and sofa need replacing, both uncomfortable due to over-use. Too far to walk into town.

Review 57:Good self catering facilities; nice and warm on a cold winter's night.

Review 58:Couch in unit 9 has collapsed and needs replacing. Only fault I could find

Review 59:Clean and comfortable. Warm and had all the facilities required for a very pleasant stay.

Review 60:Staff were shocking! Management left a note on door to call them if we needed anything. A young lady appeared just as we read the note. She said she was just staying there and helping out but had no idea how to use computer system and took far too long to check us in after travelling with kids for hours, busting and hungry! Not walking distance to town at all even though this is insinuated on website. Weather was horrible and weird location felt like we were middleof some average street to nowhere! Way better hotels around corner far closer to town.

Review 61:Self catering chalets had everything we needed apart from an oven. Quaint quirky little 2 storey with 2 separate bedrooms upstairs. Sauna was cool too. Probably great for young people with no kids/ski season but not for those looking for comfort, luxury or location to town!

Review 62:The one bedroom chalets are actually semi-detached. you hear the people next door talking, bathing etc. The stairs are not friendly when going to the restroom at night - they creak and wake your fellow housemates. The chalet is in need of a thorough cleaning.

Review 63:The beds were ok but not the most comfortable I've slept in.

Review 64:Amazing value, our chalet was immaculate and there was plenty of room. Would be great for a family ski trip.

Review 65:Nothing. Would have loved if there were more double beds instead of bunk beds.

Review 66:Clean, functional, fully equipped and pleasant. Loved the stream that was flowing behind our chalet.

Review 67:We hired a five bedroom chalet - it was great - spacious, well equipped, room for whole extended family including grandparents. Staff were friendly and helpful. We'll be back

Review 68:There was nothing that I didn't like

Review 69:5bedroom chalet with plenty of space. A short drive to Ohakune township. Nice peaceful surroundings and a great view of Mt Ruapehu to wake up to

Review 70:Only slight issue was with all bedrooms on first floor and toilets downstairs in the night it was a bit noise with just timber floors

Review 71:Needed bedrooms for 4 couples plus baby so size of unit was great everything you needed for trip

Review 72:creaky stairs loft room is practically a ladder, not stairs, so tricky to negotiate with a 2 y/o very dated decor inside heating went straight to the upstairs and downstairs where living area is was FREEZING!

Review 73:not far from town but you need a car cute little chalets (we stayed idn a loft room)

Review 74:bad shower pressure toilet door doesn't close properly no toaster no microwave no on site reception to check in/out uncomfortable beds no bedroom - all open so you can hear the tv downstairs far from the happening parts of town

Review 75:The price

Review 76:Nowhere to hang tea towels. Nowhere to hang ski jackets etc. Considering most clientel are skiers this would be helpful. The units have seen better days, they need a super clean & modernising. Shower corner needed fixing, drip on the floor under the hand basin, mdf as skirting around the edges of the bathroom all expanded with the water, the ceiling in the bedroom had a mean looking wet patch where there had been a leak but never sanded back & vanished. Maintenance is not up to date. Cleanliness lacking some corners haven't seen a mop.

Review 77:The one bedroom split level units give you plenty of room with a well stocked kitchen, including a 3/4 size fridge & small table & chairs. Plenty of space for packs & ski gear. Only one 2 seater sofa which could be difficult since unit can sleep 6.

Review 78:The fan heater made so much noise. We had to stop it because of the noise. Internet connection was very bad. TV reception was bad, couldn't watch TV. But it was bad weather, so it is not their fault.

Review 79:Up stair was nice and warm.

Review 80:Really noisy stairs. If asleep upstairs & someone needs bathroom downstairs, impossible to get there quietly. Being a builder I know it easily fixed. Need to update TV. No USB or HDMI. It is 2014. No microwave as advertised in listing.

Review 81:Warm. Reasonable comfortable. Almost all you need.

Review 82:Accommodation was advertised at $90 and wasn't clear if bed linen was at extra cost. Actually was $30 for linen which was ok but should have been stated on listing

Review 83:Online booking

Review 84:Needs proper curtains (not just net curtains) in kitchen and over entrance door for privacy.

Review 85:We arrived late at night, the lovely lady left our unit unlocked for us, with the massive heat pump running so the unit was warm and toasty when we arrived. Very cute, cosy unit. Awesome drying cupboard for wet snowboard gear. Comfy bed.

Review 86:Only improvement could be the shower and pressure of it, may be a bigger shower rose - that's all!

Review 87:Nice inside furnishings, warm, the drying room under the stairs was a bonus, beds comfy and we really enjoyed our night there.

Review 88:Would like to have an oven. Very creaky upstairs and not much space in the bedroom Hot water far too hot

Review 89:Comfortable seating and space in the living area. Good bathroom

Review 90:no curtains or blinds over kitchen window/front door to stop light coming in during night but otherwise great all round

Review 91:very warm building and duvets were great. Good space aswell. Staff very helpful and pleasant especially with us turning up late at night. room was warmed up for us and our 2 young girls. great spot to stay. :-)

Review 92:Creaky stairs but really they were part of the charm!

Review 93:Warm cosy accommodation - everything we needed for a few days of family skiing . Awesome drying cupboard .

Review 94:Hot water ran out. There were five of us but hot water ran out after the thirs one showered. Two of us had to have cold shower in middle of winter

Review 95:Chalet was nice, clean and spacious. Very close to the town

Review 96:Staff very helpful. I was impressed with the high standard of cleanliness, even the pillows were all excellent. A fabulous stay with 3 adults and 5 children!!

Review 97:No microwave in the room, There was an extra charge for the supply of duvets and pillows

Review 98:The room heating was very good, available on site ski hire at good rates and drying rooms

Review 99:Bunkbeds over hung stairs - dangerous! One bedroom unit was dirty, tired, cramped and nothing like larger units which are featured on website. I would not stay here again and not recommend.

Review 100:Spacious! Cosy with the fireplace. Good equipment. Very priceworthy! Would have loved to stay longer.

Review 101:it was unclean - shower was pathetic - it smelt - the room that is - and was very overpriced for off season - TV didnt work also

Review 102:very little

Review 103:Clean, well equipped motel reasonably priced.

Review 104:Generally good, the floors upstairs were quite creaky.

Review 105:Nice staff and very easy to get settled in.

Review 106:Shower was woeful

Review 107:A charming pussy cat who happily visited us

Review 108:Great location. Lots to do in area.

Review 109:Tv didn't work in the room I had on the second night.

Review 110:Comfortable bed and warm shower

Review 111:Good facilities.

Review 112:Love this place. Good feeling about it, and nice and clean. A bit dated but reasonable price so to be expected.

Review 113:Convenient overnight stop halfway to Wellington from Auckland. Easy to find. Steep stairs leading to bedroom were not enjoyed.

Review 114:Value for money. Central location. Spacious. All that we needed.

Review 115:Good clean place. Bit dated and shaky hand rail on the stairs. But overall comfortable clean

Review 116:Everything we needed and value for money, plenty of room. friendly as.

Review 117:Three of the bunk bed mattresses were pretty uncomfortable.

Review 118:Shower was hot and strong.

Review 119:Staff is friendly and nice.

Review 120:Property somewhat dated but extremely clean. Would highly recommend a stay.

Review 121:Great price

Review 122:Awesome stay!!! Spacious and simple, very clean, fab fireplace made it cost and warm. Will definitely stay again :)
