Reviews for Grafton Cottage & Chalets

Review 1:Kitchenette is well equipped but lacked any work surface in Rose Cottage.

Review 2:The owners were very friendly and extremely helpful. The view from the terraces is stunning.

Review 3:As we were leaving the car park area onto the driveway leading to the road, our Honda Accord car bottomed out on a high spot and destroyed the plastic car trailer light lead connection attached to the bottom of the tow bar. The bottom of the car scraped under the floor areas of the back seat as well and as a consequence we have some repairs to make.

Review 4:Lovely helpful friendly service of all the staff.

Review 5:Lovely owners!! Incredibly friendly and helpful. She arranged for us to have a thai massage although it was the Boxing Day bank holiday and most places were closed. She also dropped us off in town. We found this the perfect place to relax after an action packed 8 days in the north island.

Review 6:The hosts were really chilled and friendly, and the view of sunset is divine. A perfect place to unwind. If you have a limited amount of time on the peninsula, Thames offers a good option as a base (if Auckland is your destination)

Review 7:Very friendly hosts who were generous and welcoming. They even supplied shortbread to have with a cup of tea on arrival and came back with a liqueur for a drink before bed time. They even put on a continental breakfast, all of which was a complete surprise. The place was spotless and the king sized bed was very comfortable. The views were out of this world. We are looking forward to going back there again.

Review 8:A little out of town

Review 9:Very comfortable room with excellent views.good range of utensils and appliances.Very friendly owners who went the extra mile to make the stay good

Review 10:nicely located to take advantage of sunset, from the hot pool- I might add.Comfort, privacy and space were some of the features. Albie was an excellent host, too.

Review 11:Owners were lovely and accomodating, helpful and friendly. The room was lovely and a free sample of local liquor a nice extra. Peaceful setting and dog friendly would definitely recommend this property for a stay in Thames.

Review 12:Nothing. You do need a car to get to town as it is quite a walk downhill and then up again afterwards. But the fact it is a bit out of the way gives it its great appeal and wonderful views.

Review 13:Really friendly hostess. Great the way she brought breakfast to your room in the morning. Brilliant views. Very comfortable beds and chalet was really well presented.

Review 14:Hosts were very friendly, and accommodated our very early departure by having breakfast foods delivered the night before. the amenities, soaps, towels, etc very nice. The tea and coffee on hand also very good

Review 15:The floors are wooden so are a bit noisey but as expected. Bathroom is pretty small, but adequate.

Review 16:Location, owners and the facilities. Even a vase for flowers, grater and the list goes on. Local info for the owners and they were interesting to chat to. Very relaxed. Breakfast was good and delivered to our table daily.

Review 17:The view on town and sea was very nice. Our own little cottage was very comfortable. The free outdoor whirlpool was great, you could watch the night sky :). Breakfast in the room also nice. And the selfmade liquor just awesome! (we are Baileys lovers). Thanks for the great hospitality also!

Review 18:Slightly out of town, a bit too far to walk to the bars/ restaurants in town (approx 3km) (but this is what gave it the great views)

Review 19:Really friendly hosts. Great the way they brought breakfast down to your room when you asked for it. Brilliant views. Very comfortable bed and chalet was really well presented.

Review 20:The view, solitude, quietness. Wifi worked, staff delightful, breakfast just right. Thames is a top little town of historic merit. Choose the fish and chip shop and bar down at the wharf. for a cheap, delightful experience.

Review 21:Everything was perfect. There is little to do in Thames itself but it's the perfect place to have as HQ to explore the Peninsula.

Review 22:Fantastic host, delicious breakfast delivered to your room and views that went all the way to the sea. Lots of care has been taken with the small details in the room (we stayed in the Rata room) and throughout the hotel. We had a wonderful stay here and completely recommend it.

Review 23:Not sure the spa thermostat was accurate.

Review 24:Loved the location and view. Breaky was lovely. Just what we needed. Loved that the owners were such genuine people. Art work impressive.

Review 25:N/A

Review 26:Location was great; views of Thames and great sunset. Cottage was cute and romantic. Had everything we needed for our one night stay. Charming place!

Review 27:The room was small. We had to squeeze around the bed and hard to find room for both bags. Very clean and well presented though. The room was a long way from the car park and we had to carry bags up stairs. Can't imagine older people managing it. Lucky it wasn't raining as it wasn't under cover. It was a bit of a drive into town. Normally we would prefer to be able to walk but it was too far.

Review 28:The room had a great view. The host was really friendly. He also gave us a "Baileys" type cocktail on the house. Room was very clean and modern

Review 29:This place was amazing. Great welcome, with cookies and liqueur included. The view was amazing, and the facilities in the room were of outstanding quality. Would definitely stay here again. Great breakfast provided as well.

Review 30:None

Review 31:Host was very welcoming and informational about the town, amazing little cottage with perfect view. Very clean and cute place. Breakfast was great and plenty of food. Got welcoming homemade cookies and a nightcap! Probably best place we stayed on our 10 day NZ trip, highly recommended! Thank you for having us!

Review 32:For a short stay it didn't matter but perhaps a smaller bed might have provided a been a better choice in this room.

Review 33:The welcome and the service we received were excellent.

Review 34:Thames is a convenient first stop, but move further north to enjoy Coromandel.

Review 35:Warm greeting from friendly host, thanks Albi. Panoramic bay views from upstairs bedroom and downstairs sitting room. Thames was our first stop on way to explore whole Coramandel.

Review 36:Not great soundproofing between units - our neighbours had a crying baby that woke us several times in the night.

Review 37:Very friendly host. Gorgeous view and outdoors decoration/landscaping etc was charming. Unit had everything we needed.

Review 38:A little more attention to detail with cleaning. For price, a cooked breakfast should have been offered.

Review 39:The host was very friendly and welcoming and the view fantastic. The bed was warm and comfortable.

Review 40:Our unit was at the very end of an uphill set of stairs and pathways...and it was raining

Review 41:Albie is fantastic with his service. Friendly and informative, you could not ask for more. Wonderful views out over the Firth of Thames. Comfy beds and a lovely breakfast.

Review 42:Prrsonally we like to walk into the town which is our base and it was 2 miles so we had to drive

Review 43:Spectacular views Hot tub Lovely chalets Friendly staff

Review 44:No door on the small bathroom was a bit uncomfortable feeling, maybe even a curtain would be good?

Review 45:Everything was amazing right down to the finer details of the decor to the size of cups for tea/coffee. Even though it was the 'baby' room it was wonderfully comfortable and relaxing. The hot tub was awesome as was the view from there. Very private and tranquil.

Review 46:Cant fault.

Review 47:Staff were very friendly made us feel at home. They loaned us towels and a shovel for our trip to hot water beach. View from our chalet was superb.

Review 48:We stayed in the Kowhai cottage which had amazing views from both downstairs and up. The hosts were extremely hospitable and helpful, received home baking and some delicious cream liqeuer. Breakfast in the morning was great, plenty of muesli and fresh fruit. Would highly recommend anyone stay here when visiting Thames.

Review 49:No bad experiences at all!!

Review 50:Great accommodation , super friendly and amenable owners- really great. The view is unbeatable and there is no reason to be any closer to town.

Review 51:Windy drive up/down - but not too bad.

Review 52:Lovely view across water to hills of Auckland Opportunity to get a free shuttle ride for hotel meal with a free glass of wine.

Review 53:The location was a bit out of town, but the views from the cottage was incredible. The staff are so friendly, helpful, and hospitable, absolutely great. Breakfast was delicious. Great recommendations for food and sights.

Review 54:From a genuine warm and friendly greeting, there wasn't anything to complain about. We stayed one night and had a really good nights sleep. It is off the main road but the view from the verandah outside the unit sure made up for it. A great place to relax and enjoy the peace.

Review 55:Probably need to think about changing the downstairs carpet as it is a bit dusty for those of us sensitive to that stuff.

Review 56:A great place to stay with views across the city. Cute cottages. Great breakfast.

Review 57:We enjoyed the view from the deck and the access to the hot tub. The room was lovely and the breakfast, biscuits and liqueur were very enjoyable.

Review 58:Such a peaceful location in the cute cottages up on the hill with a great view over Thames. We were made very welcome with a tray of homemade cookies and a Bailey's style liqueur for a nightcap and breakfast served in our cottage.

Review 59:The man who looked after us Alby was just delightful and nothin was too much trouble especially when we turned up with out huge trailer! Rooms super clean and that is always a bonus!

Review 60:...that we couldn´t stay longer! :o)

Review 61:Nice little wooden cottage on hillside surrounded by a natural garden.Comfortable and aesthetically arranged cottage.Wonderful lookout from an own little wooden terrace.Very kind, friendly and helpful Hosts.

Review 62:No hand rail to the loft bedroom, no gate to the stairs at the top to prevent little ones going down during the night. My through the child could rungs of the railing.

Review 63:Staff were great, a real family feel, great location

Review 64:Nothing

Review 65:This is a great option, one of the best places we stayed in for our trip to NZ. Home made biscuits, evening liqueur and a fantastic view are just a few great things about this Idyllic place to stay - it will not disappoint.

Review 66:Tried to face time uk but gave up, Internet very slow. I know you don't go on holiday to use Internet but sometimes it's good to catch up with family when you are away.

Review 67:The setting

Review 68:How friendly the owner was and all the fairy magic. The pool and spa were a nice surprise too. We also really liked the fact that although the cottages were next to each other they still felt private because of the angles they were all built on.

Review 69:The lovely family atmosphere with warmth and consideration. The position of the chalet with views over the Firth of Thames. The layout of the chalet, spacious but cosy with decking space to sit out and eat - or just sit!

Review 70:Really nice but a bit expensive

Review 71:A very romantic place, scenic view, confortable room, spa on the tarrace...simply amazing! Staff friendly and helpful.

Review 74:Nothing.

Review 75:The view was outstanding. The host and hostess were friendly and accommodating. Our unit was small, but entirely adequate for our one night stay.

Review 76:Bathroom was extremely neat and tidy, well presented, just not so keen on the ceiling space of the bathroom being open to the bedroom - you have to know your fellow guest extremely well!!

Review 77:View was amazing, especially the sunset. Hospitality great, loved the complimentary biscuits on arrival and evening liqueur. Will definitely visit again, private unit and want to make the most of the spa.

Review 78:Not much really! Perhaps just the wifi that was a little temperamental at times but we were able to check our emails etc.

Review 79:The friendliness of the hosts, the facilities for children, the amazing views and the overall feel of the place.

Review 80:The room was perfect for an overnight stay, small but well layed out. Comfortable bed, good shower and great views. Lovely continental breakfast included in the room price. Staff lovely and very friendly. We would stay there again

Review 81:- View - Breakfasts - Location - Bed - Shower This was the perfect cottage with a view that could not be beat. Our hosts were gracious and thought of everything. Continental breakfast was perfect, being able to order a meal from a local restaurant was brilliant. And the nightcap was a nice touch. Who would ever want to leave this place?

Review 82:There was nothing to disklike about this lovely place.

Review 83:Super views overlooking Thames. Convenient for visiting Miranda Shorebird Centre and plenty of eating places nearby. Hosts were so helpful giving good info on the area.

Review 84:Nothing to dislike at all

Review 90:There are a few stairs to negotiate which can be an issue if you have a lot of luggage.

Review 91:Owners were very welcoming and made us feel at home. Property was very cosy and provided excellent views over the entire bay.

Review 92:The walls between our room and the next were very thin and we could hear the gentleman coughing during the night. The bathroom was fairly small but adequate.

Review 93:Lovely accommodation with a very comfortable bed. Hosts were excellent and very helpful. We had a little balcony that we could sit out on with a glass of wine and look at the sunset.

Review 102:No parking directly outside

Review 103:The location was great but the view was outstanding. The owners were so hospitable and such lovely people. The most comfortable bed and chalet was very clean. Our teenagers loved the Hot tub with the stunning view. We would definitely go back. We would definitely go back.

Review 104:we were told on our arrival that the bathroom was due to be upgrade, and we were satisfied with what was there, but will be better when its done, shower rose was very low, but plenty of hot water.

Review 105:We had a wonderful experience while staying over night, With a view over the Thames river, great evening view of the sun going down, would be lovely on a summers evening. Comfy and warm beds.
