Reviews for Pinewood Lodge

Review 1:Reception was slow and rude and couldn't answer any questions. The room wasn't clean there were old lenses on the window. The other guests were really loud.

Review 2:The shower pressure

Review 3:We did not find milk in the fridge, reported to the reception, one lady told us that we dont provide milk, another said sorry its run out and she provided it. Water was not draining in the shower, we have to report and they send a handyman to fix it. Toilet is very small and uncomfortable, you cant wash your face and if you dare to wash your face, you will hit your face into the morror. I will never, never, never stay at this property again and will strongly suggest my friends not to ruin their holidays by staying there.

Review 4:Only the location was fine

Review 5:Queenstown is so pricey!!! It's hard to say it's good value. Bathrooms a bit grimey.

Review 6:Each little house had its own kitchen that it only shared with a few rooms which was great. Location was ok, a 10 minute walk from town. Free parking was handy. Free wifi always a plus.

Review 7:Some wifi problems, but hopefully not typical

Review 8:Good location and modern style chalet with all facilities, staff young and extremely helpful and efficient. Good value in a town that is busy and expensive

Review 9:Absolutely not enough parking either onsite or on the street, for the number of people staying there. There were cars squashed in there, blocking each other in, and leaving insufficient space for other cars to drive through on the driveway. We had to park way down the street and around the corner.

Review 10:Staff didn't respond to requests quickly. They forgot about certain small things I mentioned, and only responded after reminding them.

Review 11:Meeting nice people in the lodge, convenient location.

Review 12:Only one coffee cup in room and had to go and ask for another, which was chipped. Asked for milk but was told no. No faceclothes and one piece of soap. For $200.00 a night, would expect a much higher standard

Review 13:Good location from central Queenstown and quiet at night

Review 14:Not enough parking

Review 15:It was clean comfortable and inviting trusting also liked not having to pay for booking prior to going other places in Queenstown wuldnt do that.

Review 16:Wi-fi was a PAIN. We really needed to work and we picked the hotel because it had free wifi. Alas, the signal was so weak we had to go to the gondola terminal to work. Not exactly what we expected.

Review 17:Pretty close to the gondola, rooms are nothing fancy but they worked for us.

Review 18:No service .. They don't even make the beds.. We stayed there for 3 nights and there was no service from the staff.. The bathroom was just cleaned once. We washed the utensils and kept it for drying but found them in the sink when we came back to the room at night. The TV remote control was missing the next day after the so called "room cleaning " and the staff at the reception didn't even bother to help us in finding it or replacing it . We paid 200 NZ dollars for a night (3nights in total) for 1 bedroom apartment but the service was horrible as compared to the price charged.

Review 19:Location was perfect.. The villas were newly made hence the kitchen was clean

Review 20:too expensive...Queenstown is not good value for money and Pinewood Lodge is a low class backpackers albeit the cheapest accommodation in an overpriced town!!!

Review 21:location

Review 22:Advise us that 'Abulation' is actually the 'Toilet' in our Cabin. We had to use outdoor toilet facilities (which was poor) until we figured out this door was the toilet for 1.5 days. Not happy about this.

Review 23:Staff were friendly and helpful overall.

Review 24:Poor value for money paid half the price elsewhere and got twice the value. We paid for 5 but the apartment was only made up for 4 people. Someone also parked in our parking spot right outside our door, so close it actually made access to our apartment difficult, unfortunately they do not document registration numbers and had no idea who the van belonged to or even if they were staying at the lodge. No soundproofing between apartments at all so could hear everything going on next door. All the drains from upstairs ran through pipes on the wall in our bedroom which added to the noise disturbance.

Review 25:Close to centre of town

Review 26:Lack of housekeeping.. For the price paid I Expect to have rubbish removed daily, bed made, room cleaned etc... No amenities ie coffee/ tea in room. Had to ask for towels, the room was in poor condition .

Review 27:The location was close enough but far enough from the city

Review 28:the rooms were well equipped in some regards and lacking in others. Towels hadn't been provided and the TV remote was missing... But they were furnished on request...

Review 29:Nice location, easy walk in to town and next door to the Skyline! Rooms were clean and nicely decorated.

Review 30:The wifi was not always reliable but worked enough to use and book other things for future plans and travel. But if that was mentioned ahead of time I wouldn't have minded it at all, not to mention travel is about enjoying the view not the wifi!

Review 31:Facilities were amazing, clean and spacious and our house mates were great. Location ideal and price totally reasonable as a young backpacker, not to mention full kitchen and living room. Loved it!

Review 32:Small room with only wall view. Dirty and smelly bedding. Narrow toilet and small wash basin blocking always. Shared kitchen and some facilities out of order. If come back after 7 pm, no place for parking. Small tv.

Review 33:Cleanliness left a lot to be desired through shred use of bathroom. Things broken not fixed. Lots of noise from neighbouring properties.

Review 34:Pinewood Lodge was centrally located and accessible

Review 35:Room not ready for at least two hours in the middle of the afternoon. Bathroom very small. Cutlery had not been washed and kitchen drawers not cleaned it.

Review 36:The layour is not reasonable: rooms are on L2, people need to go to L1 and pass the dinning room and kitchen to go to toilet. The bathroom is on L2 though.

Review 37:Room is clean

Review 38:Too old building that are neither renewed neither painted. Shower impractically small and even not clean. Full bin of kitchen not emptied until second day. Internet connection not relible and disconnecting every two minutes.

Review 39:Wifi was apalling! Wanted to Skype family on Xmas day but couldn't. When you manage to log in it only lasts a couple of mins. Very very frustrating! Get that sorted and it'll be perfect!

Review 40:Loved the layout of all the chalets and that they were self-contained. Also lovely to be just outside the hustle & bustle of town - only 5 min walk. Beautiful view of The Remarkables! Wonderful! Will miss it.

Review 41:Communal kitchen wasn't the cleanest and Internet was a bit patchy at times.

Review 42:Standard room was clean and comfy. Goods value for money and bathroom was pretty decent. Also pretty close to town. Would recommend.

Review 43:Bathroom wasn't cleaned, door for bathroom was broken, didn't shut. TV in communal room was against the wall on the outside of my room.

Review 44:The location.

Review 45:The bulding was old and smelly. The room hasn't been cleaned (dust in the shelves and empty cans under the bed). Not fonctional, need to go inside the bath to be able to close the door!

Review 46:They moved our stuff while we were in the city. they gave our room to other people during our stay without telling us. they drunk our beer in the fridge.

Review 47:Kitchen was filthy, even after letting staff know it only improved slightly, same piece of lettuce stuck to floor for 3 days, sinks blocked with pasta, too few towels, we prefers to eat in our room; toilets ran out of paper; showers blocked so you stood up to your ankles in water

Review 48:Good place to walk into town from

Review 49:Power point in bedroom was loose and needed to be repaired for safety reasons. Unisex bathrooms may not suit everyone. Very busy reception, took awhile to check in.

Review 50:We stayed in a double room in block M. Convenient location, adjacent to bird park and gondola. Nice hot showers.

Review 51:The standard room is not the most ideal for anyone travelling to relax. Their Wifi needs an upgrade. I had no Internet access through out my stay.

Review 52:I loved the fact that the staff were willing to accommodate our request for an upgrade. They did everything to make it happen.

Review 53:Parking was very haphazard, no set parking area and vehicles parked everywhere and at all angles

Review 54:We had a large queen size room with shared kitchen and lounge. It was a short walk to the town centre and Gondola

Review 55:The Location was Brilliant :) Close to the supermarket down the road, Not a long walk at all to the Gondola, or the main center, Nice facilities, loved the water pressure in the showers and overall cleanliness of the place. Will come back :)

Review 56:Other people's used towels in room, two towels provided for four of us! Dirty smelly toilets with barely any maintenance, no handwash in the dispenser ever & toilet paper. Very commercial, unprofessional, rude and unfriendly staff. Equally dirty kitchen with overflowing rubbish bins. Rather spend night on street than staying here.

Review 57:Absolutely nothing to like. Rude, careless staff, very unprofessional, filthy, unhygienic and very expensive compared to what the charge.

Review 58:Didn't feel this was value for money. Rooms are very basic and feel price should have been a lot less, even for Queenstown. We stayed in Motel accommodation with all the trimmings for $100 less a night everywhere else in South Island. :(

Review 59:Location was walking distance to town.

Review 60:My window open near the lodge entrance door and there were noisy comings and goings all hours Saturday night.

Review 61:It was an easy walk to town. The kitchen facilities were basic but okay.

Review 62:Nothing bad about it

Review 63:Really enjoyed the setup of the rooms, each block is set up in an apartment style with about 4 rooms and its own communal area, kitchen and bathroom. All very clean and comfortable, friendly staff at the reception,

Review 64:The staff were friendly. They had everything we needed in the kitchen. It was clean. It was nice to have space. The shower was hot and had good pressure.

Review 65:As soon as I entered the building there was a dreadful smell which put me off before I got to the bedroom. The bedroom was right next to the bathroom which was smelly to the point of being nauseating. I had booked in originally for a week but checked out after two nights. Two nights I left a full bottle of wine in the fridge in the kitchen and on both occasions in the morning the bottles were empty. The staff were sympathetic when I complained and they did replace a bottle of wine which was taken. Hosteling is based on trust and respect of other peoples property and this is the first time anything I have left has been taken.

Review 66:Affordable central Queenstown accommodation. You can't expect it to be flash or upmarket at the prices charged. The unit was spacious and the heating worked very well, which was really all that we needed.

Review 67:The room was very dusty. The shared toilet/shower area was wet all the time. We found it hard to sleep as it was very noisy throughout the night...floorboards creak 24/7!!

Review 68:Very friendly and helpful staff at the reception. Great location - walking distance to the town.

Review 69:My private room had bunk beds in it making just sitting uncomfortable. No bedside table. Had to use the waste bin to place glasses, phone etc. One toilet, basin & shower to cater for four rooms (poss. 16 people)! No access to toilet if someone using shower or basin! Very little parking. No hooks anywhere!

Review 70:Good location, friendly staff.

Review 71:On booking.com we read "share bathroom", which was fine, but it wasn't mentioned that it was actually an apartment with 3 rooms shared with other people. It didn't matter but we would have liked to know before

Review 72:Free and easy going nature of the place. It is very handily located - excellent for getting away from the bustle of Queenstown central. It is very good value for money and an ideal location for a group of people.

Review 73:I missed my connecting flight to Queenstown because my first flight was delayed so I couldn't be there for my 1st night. I tried to contact reception several times, by phone, I left also voicemail and email and nobody answered or replied to my messages...(and it wasn't even 6PM)...

Review 74:I liked location, very close to gondola and also downtown.

Review 75:very noisy, could hear the water system working when someone was in the bathroom and lots of noise in and around the building through walls etc

Review 76:great location, very handy to town

Review 77:Convenient location and simple affordable facilities. Comfortable and homely and located within the "real" Queenstown not just the touristy bit!

Review 78:Can't think of anything

Review 79:The location. The friendly staff and the fact they were able to sell on the night I'd booked but hadn't been able to get to stay as I missed the busfrom Invercargil. That was a huge relief for me. I had the best nights sleep there as the bed was so comfortable.

Review 80:Kitchen could have been cleaner (and more modern) and could have done with sone clean kitchen towels. Some of the other guests were a bit too noisy but that may have been a one off

Review 81:We loved Pinewood Lodge's location (very close to the city centre and to the gondola) and how comfy our room was. Oh, and the private parking.

Review 82:Location could be better but not too bad.

Review 83:Awesome concept with 3 rooms in our house/unit. Makes you feel rather in a shared flat than a hostel with a long aile of rooms. Awesome to meet and have a chat to others if you are travelling alone. We loved it.

Review 84:My husband hired a bike and it broke while he was in the middle of no where, and the place wanted to charge him for the dodgy bike. They are still analysing if they charge him or not.

Review 85:the room was nice

Review 86:The dorms were small with many beds, and the bunks didn't have any ladders or anything on them. The dorms were generally very crowded.

Review 87:Lots of different room options and a nice big facility. The private room was very nice (and in a different building to the other types of rooms)

Review 88:Narrow winding driveway to units A, B, and C. A little tricky getting back out.

Review 89:Great price. Had everything we needed for our stay. Heating was fine, plenty of storage space, adequate cooking facilities. The housemates I had were good company.

Review 90:We stayed in the Millhouse. Room was old and dirty. Childrens hands were brown from playing with their cars on the carpet. Couches had stones and beer bottle lids in the corners. My husband even refused to eat in the house it was so dirty.

Review 91:probably as cheap as you'd get in Queenstown, we had the mill house, a complete 50s style house to ourselves, not flash; but a comfortable place to relax in

Review 92:Nothing, everything was perfect.

Review 93:Just out of the main streets but less than a 5min walk to the town centre. Great shared spaces to mix with new people and meet people from all over the world. Rooms were lovely and comfortable. Great staff willing to help with anything from extra towels to booking activities. Will definately be back. Recommended to all my friends and family. Great value for money.

Review 94:A little maintenance required. Computer didn't work in our shared lounge and window latch in our room was broken. N 18.

Review 95:Friendly staff, great service.

Review 96:Queenstown is expensive and compared to other places this wasn't bad value.

Review 97:Staff were wonderful, handy to town, clean and comfortable. Would stay again.

Review 98:There was a weird smell in the shared kitchen during our entire stay.

Review 99:Although we arrived early in the morning, we were allowed to check in right away. The rooms were in smaller houses which contributed to more privacy. Good services if there would have been any disturbance.

Review 100:Automatically assumed we were a couple and gave us a room with 1 double bed. Very uncomfortable. Wasn't clear that the room was within a house sharing lounge, kitchen and bathroom with 3 other rooms. Luckily our stay was only 1 night.

Review 101:Staff was friendly and location was fantastic.

Review 102:Dry room was a little far from our lodge...about 100m walk.

Review 103:Stayed in three share room with private ensuite. Very clean and secure. Huge shared kitchen with tons of appliances. Walkable distance to town. And most importantly...free wifi

Review 104:I was disgusted with the mess while the asians were cooking, no room for us so we went out, they took over the kitchen. Then in the morningwhat a totall mess dishes, pots, food cutley the lot left to be washed. Also black hair in bathroom sink and wet floor everywhere toliet/bathroom.

Review 105:we chose this as it was walking distance to town.

Review 106:The corridor built in wood caused disturbing when people walk through and the door close also making noise.

Review 107:I like the shared kitchen and the comfort room with beautiful scenery from the room.

Review 108:Basic facilities but you get what you pay for. In queens town winter it got to -6 even with the heater in the room and extra duvet it was very cold.

Review 109:Great location. Helpful staff.

Review 110:Staff were rude, bed was so uncomfortable. Didn't realise we had to share a house when booking. Place was dirty and windows didn't close properly. Room was freezing!

Review 111:Close walk to the city

Review 112:Slim line wall heaters did not really provide much heat but it was pretty cold during my stay. An extra plug in potable radiator would have been useful.

Review 113:Members of staff were very helpful when I had problems with TV remote and were quick to respond. Kitchen facilities were very good in my apartment and there was a comfortable king size bed.

Review 114:We went in the winter and the room was super cold. The windows leaked cold air so it was hard to keep the room warm.

Review 115:The staff was excellent. We needed to change rooms and they were extremely helpful.

Review 116:Insufficient heater system for wintertime. Heater is controlled from the reception. No electrical socket in our room N22 until 3rd day. Shared male/female ablutions. No mentioning about room key that can be used for the lounge room at night. You are expected to call the security number after the reception is closed for a reason as simple as locked out from the lounge room at night whereas they could print the information in the keychain where they print the room numbers.

Review 117:Powerful hot showers, flexible check in/out, quiet cheap room hence the shortcomings?

Review 118:Wifi was non existent and the TV did not work, in the end all worked out as I was on a skiing vacation : )

Review 119:Good cooking facilities, staff approachable, helpful and knowledgeable. AA++

Review 120:dirty, cold, more suited to backpackers. the two double beds were in one room and the other bedroom had double bunks ( and lousy heater)

Review 121:the heater in the loungeroom worked

Review 122:The kitchen, fridge and storage areas around the house were nowhere near adequate, 12 people in one small building with only a tiny fridge and one shelf was ridiculous!

Review 123:Get little houses to live in, really different to the traditional type of backpackers

Review 124:The wifi was shocking. It just kept disconnecting every 5 minutes which was so frustrating. The showers were good, but I'm 6 foot 4 and the shower head only came up to my shoulder which was a bit annoying.

Review 125:If i have to be really picky, the heater in the room took a while to heat up so we were quite cold until we got under the covers. The wifi didn't reach our room we had to go down to the hub. At night also we heard alot of noise from others guests in their flats- music shouting etc After saying all that I would stay there again as i it was nice, i enjoyed my time there and i liked the idea of a self contained flat style living.

Review 126:Me and my friend stayed in a private room due to limited availability. We had a double bed and bunk beds in our room with fotted wardrobes. The room was very spacious even if it was to occupy 4 people, we slept in the double bed and it was very comfy (i now appreciate a good bed as i have had bad!). The toilets and showers were wothin the corridor and were kept clean and they were never all full. The kitchen was also a good size and had enough places to sit. - we were there in July.

Review 127:Room was a bit cold even with the heater on full bore but it was also mid August & bloody cold an extra blanket would have been good that time of year ,luck I had my thermals ! Lol but value for $.

Review 128:Handy to town ,about 8-10 mins walk ,not over the top price wise ,I was wanting a bed not the Ritz.= ,& it was clean & comfortable is all self catering with different types of accommodation.

Review 129:Couldn't get WiFi working, TV had no signal but don't watch TV anyway really.

Review 130:Location good, clean tidy and warm. Large fridge was good. Room clean, sheets clean. All up was good value for money in an otherwise expensive town

Review 131:We had a great stay at pinewood. We had a family cottage that was huge! It was close enough to town that my 5year old could walk down and back without any dramas. They came and wiped over/ vacuumed every day! And the price I couldn't beat. Ok so the wifi comes and goes but with snow To be skied and adventures to be found what does it matter!

Review 132:There were some issues with the free wifi but I believe it was due to Vodafone doing upgrades in the area. Can't really complain about something free though can we...

Review 133:Great value for money and clean rooms with clean ensuite. Friendly place stay and would definitely stay again.
