Reviews for Tongariro Suites

Review 1:Pay attention to the instructions emailed to you or you might pass the small sign.

Review 2:The Tongariro Suites is a step above other hotels/B&Bs. An absolutely fabulous stay with unbelievable views and hosts that are fantastic.

Review 3:Very new and beautifully appointed. Nice room layout with plenty of room. Large range of choices for breakfast. Good to have a patio outside near the pond. The view from the room did not disappoint. Wonderful. Wished we could have stayed longer and will definitely stay again on another trip.

Review 4:Great property with beautiful rooms and lovely hosts. Fantastic location really close by to a range of attractions and sites in Tongariro National Park. Perfect base if walking the Tongariro Crossing.

Review 5:Breakfast options were quite limited and felt bad leaving our dirty plates etc

Review 6:Beautiful quiet area close to the national park and only a 10 minute drive to town. Bath was amazing as was the private deck. Can't believe it's so eco-friendly and luxurious at the same time

Review 7:Hardly no space to store luggage. As the room we had was not that big, this is a bit unpractical. No cooking facilities, so for dinner you have to drive to Ohakune, which is approx. 20 km's. It's somewhat high priced.

Review 8:Very nicely located accommodation (even with rain), as soon as the sky clears, you have a magnificent view on the Tongariro volcano's. Rooms (incl. bed and shower) are very comfortable, perfect into the detail. People (Dutch originated couple) are very receptive and supportive. They just installed a hot tub outside, wonderful!

Review 9:Nothing to complain :)

Review 10:The Bubbles-Cat :D Solar power and rainwater usage! The terrace is great for breakfast! The rooms are spacious. Location is perfect, quiet. Stargazing is a MUST!

Review 11:Can't see any areas that need improving.I think they have thought of everything. WiFi could be faster but quite honestly we were amazed that we could get any in the middle of tongariro. Shame we couldn't see the mountain for mist - obviously we cant predict the weather. We will definately be back in the finer weather.

Review 12:Everything was fantastic. Accommodation was well presented and to our taste. We loved the simple contemporary design with pops of colour. Bed and casual seating really comfortable and heating options available to suit all human thermostats. Bathroom and toileties were luxurious - loved the large shower and bathrobes. Breakfast offer was first class. I loved the environmental initiatives taken on board in the design of the house and the fact the owners mission is to encourage wildlife back into the region. It is a very peaceful environment to have a relaxing break and we loved the fact the accomodation is exclusive to adults and children over 14. (Apologies to families, but we love our peaceful breaks away without noisy kids in tow).

Review 13:For staying not long enough

Review 14:Wow ! This accommodation is super fantastic ! The owner is very nice and helpful , and have a very good taste on the interior design! It is so modern and feels like home ! I love everything about the design! The colour matching is amazing ! We have been upgraded to deluxe superior room and it has a built in fire place which makes the room very elegant ! The bathroom has a bath tub and a large shower area ! We love the idea of drinking a wine with aroma candle during bath in the bath tub! We are the only family living in the suite that day , it feels like we own this amazing place ! The bed is very comfortable with heating blanket ! The owner really have put a lot of effort in creating a perfect environment for travellers ! Laundry and drying machine are available on site and are free of charge. Overall , it is a must to stay if you are travelling from Auckland to Wellington by self-driving !

Review 15:Nothing. It was exactly what we were looking for.

Review 16:All the small touches that made the stay more comfortable and more personal. The hosts were available and friendly but allowed you personal space to enjoy your time away. It was a nice balance. The bath was great, including the bath salts. Loved the breakfast and the location.

Review 17:We had a brilliant stay at Tongariro Suites! Very stylish and comfortable room with everything you could want. Host was incredibly pleasant and went out of his way to make our stay as memorable and comfortable as possible.

Review 18:Nothing to dislike!

Review 19:The location and setting was AMAZING! Superb view of the mountain and beautiful, peaceful surroundings. Excellent, comfortable room and lots of thoughtful little touches to make for an extra special stay. We were greeted at the front door with a warm smile and a handshake, how amazing is that! We will definitely stay again and again.

Review 20:Winter time had limited activities, more time to spend in the suite!

Review 21:Personal touch, we were greeted personally at the door on entry. The room was amazing, fully equipped, and spacious. It had an outdoor patio overlooking a small lake and garden, with a direct view of Mt. Ruapehu. Breakfast was provided generously and the fridge was well stocked. The bathroom had a shower and a bathtub

Review 22:A cooked breakfast offering would have completed the offering. Other than that it was great.

Review 23:The suite we were in was very comfortable & well appointed. Really great views from our deck too. Lovely couple who run the place & are very helpful.

Review 24:Maybe a little isolated to go out for dinner but not a problem. Just don't drink to much.

Review 25:All the facilities are top notch. A lot of thought has gone into this property.

Review 26:Had a great stay at this beautiful location. Driven past here weekly and had no idea it was tucked away where it was. Very friendly hosts - can't fault our stay at all! Very close to many activities in the central north island.

Review 27:the owner was very nice and even put out birthday muffins for me which was a lovely surprise, great breakfast provided and the room was immaculate, after coming back from a six hour horse trek in tongariro the big bath was very welcome, the fire was on ready and the bed was one of the best I have ever slept on, waking up to an immaculate view of the mountains was incredible from the panoramic windows, nice and quiet also, highly recommended

Review 28:Regretted that we couldn't stay more. Everything was perfect!

Review 29:We enjoyed everything - nature around the suits, friendly owners, superb bath with a fascinating view on the garden, extremely soft blankets and bathrobes. Everything is new, clean and very pleasurable to the eye. Would totally recommend it and stay here again.

Review 30:The perfect location for skiing or hiking (excellent base for the Tongariro Crossing). Comfortable beds, bathroom with SPA qualities, the rooms which are partly equipped with firesides are just beautiful. The hosts make you feel at home and help you getting organised whenever you need their support.

Review 31:Will help to find it a custom plate in the road, but following google maps should bring you there.

Review 32:Very friendly staff. Nice place. Amazing views, especially Sunrise, it pays to put the alarm to see it from bed.

Review 33:Need to drive some distance for restaurants etc so plan ahead.

Review 34:We thought our accommodation couldn't get any better but everything about the room was perfect. Landscaping still to mature but fantastic view of Mount Ruapehu if cloud had only cleared.Owners very friendly and welcoming.

Review 35:Nothing

Review 36:Newly built to a high standard with excellent view. Quiet location but Ohakune and restaurants only 10 min drive away. Building very low carbon/Eco friendly

Review 37:Nothing to dislike. Be aware that it's located at Horopito,12 km from town of Ohakune.

Review 38:Well furnished and very clean room. Room opens onto a patio with view to Mt Ruapehu.

Review 39:No sink in room to wash plates etc. Fairly remote from nearest town for restaurants.

Review 40:Beautifully appointed and decorated apartment would grace a 5 star hotel. Quiet surroundings. Good breakfast provided in room.

Review 41:Elsbeth and Carel, the owners, were very welcoming and have considered every need you might have from a beautiful view from the bathtub onto the snow covered mountains to the (energy saving!) laundry room for the dirty wash collected en route! The dutch couple who fulfilled one of their dreams by building this beautiful facility, help others to fulfill their dreams by offering accomodation here. Set in serene surroundings they have taken great care to ensure that the natural surroundings and resources can be sustained for future generations to enjoy. Thank you to them both.

Review 42:Nothing!

Review 43:Brilliantly designed building Great focus on sustainability Wonderful location Lovely attention to detail in interior design Welcoming owners who were helpful in every way.

Review 44:The water doesn't taste good, it comes from a water container with rain water. We even couldn't use it for teeth brushing.

Review 45:Quiet place - nice room

Review 46:Beautiful views of Mt Ruapehu from our room, lovely outside leisure area. Opportunity to spend time with other guests if desired with shared lounge and BBQ and sundeck with table. OR, lovely private facilities to relax in room. All the little extras provided (eg, under BBQ there was sauces/cooking oil etc.).Lovely breakfast provided in room daily. Quality and comfort with excellent service. Prior to arrival information about activities, PLUS able to buy NZ sim card for phones ahead of trip. All up, wonderful service and facilities.

Review 47:Spotlessly clean, tastefully decorated, home-made muesli & bath salts, freshly ground coffee, use of laundry facilities, very comfortable bed - what more called a traveller ask for ?

Review 48:The room was equipped as advertised, but we felt it should have better self-catering facilities, e.g it lacked a hob and sink in the kitchen. This is just a bit of constructive criticism of an otherwise great stay.

Review 49:The location and view of the mountains. Very friendly and sociable owners. Room was very comfortable.

Review 50:There was nothing at all to dislike, all our needs were catered for perfectly.

Review 51:The entire room was tastefully and luxuriously appointed. The bed and the bedding, the fixtures and fittings were all first class, and Carel kept everywhere immaculately clean!

Review 52:No working table and regular chair. No sink in the kitchenette and no wastebasket in the bathroom. No sink in the BBQ area.

Review 53:This is a small and hotel. Only 4 suites. We were welcomed by Elsbeth and Carel, The owners. They were very helpful. We had one of the small suites but it is quite large. The East wall is a large glass door facing Mount Ruapehu. A splendid view. There is a small area for the kitchenette and a large bathroom. Room was vey clean. It is all new. Although you supposed to have in room breakfast it is only some orange juice, hot drink and serials. Not even close to a real breakfast. They have a washing machine and a dryer and these are free to use for the guests. They provide the washing powder. There is an area for BBQ. They have a large gas grill free to use for the guests. The room has 2 big sofa chairs and small low table. Internet speed is good.

Review 54:Hosts are glacial, and breakfast is astronauts food prepare days ago and left in the fridge for your self service. They really should provide a normal hot breakfast. Some cockroach in the bedroom.

Review 55:Place and room great!!!!!

Review 56:That we had to leave! We will definitely be back again.

Review 57:It was exactly like the photos, lovely location looking at the mountain from the bath! Owners really made you welcome and provided different activities in the area. The breakfast was a nice touch. Everything has been well thought out.

Review 58:I didn't like that we didn't spend long enough in our suite- out private deck was SUPERB!!

Review 59:Everything. Luxurious accommodation over looking the mountain. Could not fault it

Review 60:Would have liked a sink in the 'kitchen' area,

Review 61:Amazing location and fantastic room with a view. Very well though out suite with great extras such as bath salts for post hike...

Review 62:this was the best location in New Zealand that we had. The room was very tastefully decorated, everything was new . The bed , the bathroom and the breakfast left nothing to be desired. A very large room with a magnificent view of a pond . The location is quiet, you can relax and unwind and yet it is 10 minutes to the ski area. This venue is recommended in summer and in winter very much.

Review 63:We found it difficult to wash up in small designer bathroom sink (until we realised there were washing up facilities in the laundry). Room not really set up for preparing much in the way of food yet not particularly handy to cafes, restaurants and supermarket in Ohakune.

Review 64:Friendly hosts. Very comfortable bed. Lovely mountain view. Luxury bathroom. Private deck. Nice bbq facilities. Access to laundry. Peace and quiet. Lovely breakfast selection provided. Felt pampered. Perfect luxury room after completing Tongariro crossing. Would definitely stay again.

Review 65:Brand new, spacious rooms with an unbeatable view and very friendly hosts. Tongarino Suites was indeed the best accommodation were we stayed overnight during our road trip through New Zealand. We have seen some excellent accommodation but this one beets them all.

Review 66:This was a really special place to stay. We arrived to a friendly and helpful greeting from one of the owners. Our suite was simply stunning. Really well equipped, elegantly decorated and with a fantastic view from the deck. The breakfast supplied in the room is thoughtfully done. The bathroom is also beautifully kitted out. Restaurants and shops are only 10 mins drive away and both national parks easily accessible. It was hard to leave!

Review 67:We would have liked to have been closer to the main Alpine village it took us 20mins plus along a difficult road to get to the village - a lot if you're catching the 7am shuttle to the Crossing

Review 68:The rooms were lovely, large comfortable & light. Ours had a view of Mt Ruapehu

Review 69:Would be great if they could offer a DVD player in the room.

Review 70:I was pleasantly surprised by how stylishly put together the place was, a bed that had a warming pad, a little pantry with breakfast supplies that were replenished in-room daily, with a reasonable selection of continental fare. The bathroom was pure delight given the contemporary decor. The view of Mount Tongariro from the room patio, coupled with a nice pond garden that the hosts are currently still putting together, were great to wake up to. Definitely value for my buck! With only 4 rooms open for stays, I'd recommend anyone exploring the Tongariro area to book fast.

Review 71:Location is beautiful but could be tricky to locate

Review 72:Comfort was fantastic, free wifi, dressing gowns, bath salts all the little touches in a nice quiet spot.

Review 73:Two case racks for next time please.

Review 74:This is a great place to break the trip to Wellington ( or reverse). Great view of mountain when cloud allows. Very comfortable, spacious, and quality fitout.

Review 75:Slightly hard to find at night

Review 76:Amazing views Excellent bed Cosy room with nice decor Good kitchen facilities In-room fire and sofa Good wifi Super friendly hosts

Review 77:We really enjoyed our stay here and wish we could have stayed longer. Beautiful setting and suite with fantastic view of Mt Ruapehu. Owners very friendly and welcoming. Hope to go back sometime.

Review 78:Was hard to find. That road isn't want on the navman. A sign on the road would be helpful :) Also the only place to wash dishes was in the bathroom sink. Was a bit difficult.

Review 79:Great location with view of the mountain. Lovely and quiet. Use of wifi was great too

Review 80:Large, well appointed room, with luxurious facilities, especially the bathroom. Continental breakfast in room was very generous, with a good variety of food choices. Good location near Central highlands and ski areas. Lovely view of Mt Ruapehu from the room. Friendly, welcoming host.

Review 81:the only drag is the location, however it is not a big problem if ur self-driving

Review 82:the entire quality of the hotel is amazing and the host couple are very kind, even lead us to the location from the town centre

Review 83:Furnishings were superb in our suite. Full breakfast facilities, enormous bath and bathroom with scented candles and hand-mixed bath salts, very pleasant and helpful hosts, gorgeous view of Ruapehu. Lovely to have a soak after a full-on day skiing. Recycling, solar power, filtered rainwater were all added bonuses.

Review 84:We liked everything No complaints No dislikes Everything was perfect

Review 85:I have 2 kids, my hubby n myself we really loved it everything was so perfect so beautiful and well i'm amazed on my stay.. Very happy.. Very friendly host.. Very accommodative.. Thank u so much... My family sends regards to both of them..

Review 86:My wife found the location a little limiting as I had taken the car and the site is remote from shops and restaurants in Ohakune.

Review 87:My wife and I were greeted by the charming hostess and shown to a beautiful warm room with views to die for. My wife stayed in as she does not ski and had a peaceful day. The facilities are excellent and in line with what one would expect of a premium property. Thoroughly recommended.

Review 88:The warm friendly environment from the moment you arrive, wonderful location with two friendly and generous hosts. Tongariro Suites is a very modern facility only a stone throw from adventure and great times on the Central Plateau. To be recommended, would do it all again.

Review 89:The place was a bit hard to find. We missed it going pass 3 or 4 times. I recommend more signs. WiFi connection was a bit slow.

Review 90:Tidy, clean and quiet location. Our superior room was big. The best place to stay compared with others in the area. Great value for money.

Review 91:Could not find a fault. We will return!

Review 92:Carel and Elsbeth are wonderful hosts. So welcoming. The suites were designed by them. The attention to details were so appreciated. Everything that drives us nuts at other places has been thought about and actioned here, quite rooms, comfy beds, deep bath, free unlimited wifi, common room with a lovely fire, and the view, like a postcard. The value for money for the facilities are unmatched anywhere we have stayed in New Zealand

Review 93:Overall this was a fantastic place to stay! Close to town & the mountain, perfect mountain view, peaceful & quiet, friendly staff members, clean and a very environment friendly place to stay :)

Review 94:Beautiful accommodation with great facilities. Very comfortable bed with lovely linnen. Fab views of Ruapehu, very quiet and peaceful. Appreciated the log fire in guest lounge...thanks for a great stay.

Review 95:Not much. This place is quite new and still under development and I feel it will only improve with the enthusiasm and hard work the owners are putting in.
