Reviews for Shotover Lodge
Review 1:Distance from town! I think I didn't understand it should be in the road!!
Review 2:Good facility but we had stayed in a better place in town the night before, good view of lake, cheaper and nicer! I booked this because that one wasn't available....
Review 3:We struggled to get good WiFi reception on a couple of occasions (with two different phones) but the staff were helpful in solving our problem. Otherwise excellent.
Review 4:Lovely clean motel room with all the modern amenities. Warm, comfortable, friendly staff, we highly recommend this place.
Review 5:It was quite a struggle to carry 3 full luggages three flights of stairs because there was no elevator.
Review 6:The rooms were very spacious and the bathrooms clean. I also liked that each room had a balcony - it was nice to wake up with a view.
Review 7:Hotel room was basic quality, not that cozy, noisy. Internet was only working on iphone and ipad not on laptop
Review 8:Quiet spot some kilometres outside Queenstown
Review 9:It felt more like a backpackers than a lodge. The layout with multiple fire doors and stairs makes lugging your baggage to the third floor (no lift) a real challenge and no staff to help you.
Review 10:Its in a good location and if they didn't have the sprinklers on during the afternoon you could probably enjoy the lawn and being outside.
Review 11:Ok as long as you have a car. It is a few minutes drive from Queenstown. Only problem was they the rooms (2) both had smelly bathrooms.
Review 12:Internet was good
Review 13:Quite far away from town, with a car ok.
Review 14:Spacious and comfortable room, big and clean kitchen with a lot of utensils. nice dining room/lounge, also.
Review 15:Very small room. Not so comfortable for a family and not as cheap as you expect. Internet is limited so you need to pay extra money for wifi connection. Also there was noise from the room next to us in one of the nights.
Review 16:Staff is very friendly. Location is only 10 min drive from queenstown center. Clean room.
Review 17:1.No where to seat in room. 2. Kitchen time is limited 7-9, and not open on time. We wake up at 6 and have to wait until 7:15.
Review 18:Very clean and nice managed. Nice staff. Emailed me immediately when I forgot small item (not expensive at all), which compared with I had twins left personal item in room in USA but they never call or email.
Review 19:We were on a four week holiday, travelling from Dunedin up to Auckland and this was the only place we stayed where we had to pay for wifi. Insufficient parking spaces.
Review 20:Nice size room, clean and comfortable. Nice mountain views
Review 21:Uncomfortable beds, cramped room for 3 adults, not even anywhere to sit. Couldn't even get a hair dryer. Cater for working long term residents not those on holiday.
Review 22:Nothing
Review 23:when we came back from town late there was no car park inside the compound, and we had to park on the street.but that wasn't really a problem...
Review 24:awesome place in great scenery! Very convenient. friendly staff.
Review 25:We purchased a 250M wifi voucher, and it finished like in 2 mins! But then after travelled in Southland for a while, you know that if you need to get a voucher( paid or free) for Internet in an accomodation, rather than just a password for the hotel' own internet, it's all going to be like that! ( except you get one of these pre-paid card, like a phone card, then it's ok).
Review 26:It's clean, comfy and spacious, has a court yard to sit down and have breakfast. The location although seemed a bit far from City centre of Queenstown, but took no time to drive there. But not for people without cars.
Review 27:Location not ideal if you don't have a car... We had to get taxis and they are extremely expensive in Queenstown.
Review 28:Great big room with a large queen bed and a bunk bed with a kitchenette. Extremely clean and comfortable...
Review 29:The reception this area was terrible. It won't be matter if you purchase the wifi. There's no free wifi
Review 30:It was close to everything, the Victoria lookout, downtown, te papa museum, tram, many good restaurants, shopping, the Oceanside etc.
Review 31:The lodge is not convenient to town without a car. There are only pricy restaurants close by. Kitchen facilities are not convenient. No free internet.
Review 32:The setting is pretty. Staff friendly.
Review 33:a bit small of the room, a bit far away from queenstown city and no phone signal in some points
Review 34:The staff are very nice, the hotel are absolutely clean ! large common area, the water pressure is good for a a nice shower compare with most of the motel in New Zealand
Review 35:Mattresses are of a low quality and feel like they are getting worn out. Too soft and springs are getting close to the surface.
Review 36:A nice place outside of the town. Well landscaped. Very clean and nicely decorated rooms. Quiet central water heating (radiator with thermostatic valve) Adequate utensils for the kitchenette. Good value, considering typical costs in town.
Review 37:There was a bad smell on the ground floor during my week long stay. Can be rather noisy, more of a communal feel to the place like a backpackers rather than a motel.
Review 38:Room was a decent size
Review 39:The accommodation appears a little dated and some things 'worn'. It is 5-10kms from Queenstown and own transport necessary.
Review 40:Modest accommodation that offers microwave, crockery and use of communal kitchen/laundry. It is good value for money.
Review 41:Kitchen facilities were good but selection of pots pans etc could have been better - many of the pans had bent or loose handles which is dangerous to cook with. Another small thing is all the backpackers we have used prior provided salt and perhaps seasonings but nothing of the sort here.
Review 42:The staff were friendly and accommodated a special request we had due to traveling with a five month old baby and an 11 year old - cleaning staff were friendly and accommodating too, the facilities are excellent we were warm and comfortable and the dining room area was excellent. We liked the location out of town but of course we had our own transport so wouldn't suit us otherwise. Great staff, great value for money, it is a brilliant lodge.
Review 43:It's hard to fault and I am stretching to say 'no free wifi'
Review 44:This was my third stay at shotover lodge. Each time we stay a little bit longer. The staff are wonderful, warm and engaging. I love the facility, value for money and the proximity to coronet. The shared spaces are respectful but fun. I love that my children get to meet people from all over nz and the world and hear their stories.
Review 45:The lounge with free pool and electric fireplace was perfect post skiing. Only 300m from the access road to coronet peak, perfect! Great communal kitchen with all the modern commercial amenities. Great all round stay! Plus he paid wifi was dirt cheap and pretty fast!
Review 46:cellfone coverage is very poor( i guess not only this facility had problems coz of their location.)advertised breakfast can be ordered but not available.(good thing, next motel has available eating fascility).cold draft can be felt(especially at toilet & near sliding door)
Review 47:near queenstown city center. value for money for the area. friendly staff.
Review 48:- A little bit far from Queenstown, you will need car (7km) - Paid WiFi (These are not the 90s any more, should be free...) - Table and chairs should be inside the room (not in the terrace), as there is no place for seat and eat inside the room.
Review 49:Cleanliness, good room facilities, friendly staff.
Review 50:We loved the warm room. Great heating. Very friendly staff. Clean room, comfortable.Out of town location must have transport. A great view of the mountains.
Review 51:The studio room was very comfortable, had all the amenities we needed and the place was spotless. The location was great as Arthur's Point is just 10 -15 away from the city centre
Review 52:It is about 5 min drive from shot over bridge and 10 min drive out of queenstown, was ok for us as we had a car, but would be difficult and expensive without your own car
Review 53:Clean, comfortable, rooms, big communal kitchen with all equipment you need to make yourself meals
Review 54:The room was a little small for 4 people, but was totally acceptable since we didn't intent to stay in the room very much.
Review 55:Added small patio space and table was nice and the community kitchen and lounge were first class.
Review 56:Noisy! 3 nights, all disturbed sleep due to other guest noise. One room above us sounded like they were rearranging the furniture until 3am. Bed was a bit soft for my liking.
Review 57:Location excellent, handy to Arrowtown and Queenstown. Rooms were spacious and clean. Good bathrooms and kitchenette.
Review 58:Don't like rooms from thee parking lot as some leave early with cars for hikes and wake up others. Always ask for balcony when booking early but told they are taken which is impossible evey time as I book long time in advance. Entrance carpet to hall and some rooms getting spots.
Review 59:Spotless kitchen. Good facilities. Quiet serene setting. Gets only as loud as your co travellers but overall good. Like idea of small kitchenettes in the room besides communal kitchen which is cleaned meticulously.
Review 60:The WiFi that I paid extra worked for about 3 min.
Review 61:The room was really nice and very comfortable. A large space with a balcony with a beautiful view. Really enjoyed here
Review 62:There was a strange smell in the bathroom and carpets in the bedroom with stains.
Review 63:Nice environment although far to Queenstown. A car is a must. Big kitchen which can be used by all guests.
Review 64:Noisy room location, as near an entrance door with a metal ramp. Some people make an effort to be quiet while others don't care.
Review 65:warm, cosy, all you need, terrific kitchen for guests.
Review 66:Room is modern but fairly basic (no table and chairs, and the chairs outside on the balcony had bird poo in the seats) A fair way out of Queenstown but we had a car.
Review 67:In room kitchen facilities limited (micro wave & sink) but very good communal kitchen if you want to prepare your own meals. Very reasonably priced so very good value for money.
Review 68:there was no where to sit in the room except the outdoor chairs, also no table in the room. There was also a lack of crockery, even to cook a simple meal, like beans on toast . The bed covers needed to be changed and cleaned as there was blood on one cover and the other was soiled.
Review 69:The room was nice and warm Check in and out very simple. Room service staff very helpful.
Review 70:The noise late one night from a group of giggly ladies sitting outside at the barbeque area.
Review 71:The cleanliness of the rooms and communal kitchen, and the friendliness of the reception staff.
Review 72:- I have been provided a ground floor room, bushes outside the door, bugs and even snake can come in your room - Hotel staff was behaving in a way as if they are going charity to us - Room was not cleaned - I paid $2 for internet but it was not connecting from the room - I informed multiple times that I will be travelling with a small kid of 2.5 years after that also I have been provided a room which is not safe for kid later on I have been given a room with a small bed where even 2 people cant sleep well. even though I was supposed to get a bigger room with additional cot for the kid - Finally I booked the room for for 2 days but I left the room next day only and shifted to another hotel next day morning I will not recommend this hotel to anyone.
Review 73:A little out of town (handy for jet boat though) and no view from our room. Ok for us as we had a vehicle.
Review 74:Good facilities in kitchen Although wifi paid it was cheap and good quality.
Review 75:The distance into town may be an issue for some. Although it was not a problem for us.
Review 76:The staff went above & beyond to help us out. Thanks so much.
Review 77:No free WiFi, in this day and age it should be free, have been travelling for two months around South America and it's free everywhere, no excuse!
Review 78:Friendly staff at reception
Review 79:You have to pay for wifi but it is only $2 for 250mb so not unreasonable. We were on the bottom floor and did not have the good views you would get on the upper floors.
Review 80:Enjoyed our stay here - they have everything you need as a base for taking in the activities around Queenstown (assuming you have your own transportation). The shared kitchen and lounge areas were huge and very impressive. Most restaurants don’t have a kitchen like this one.
Review 81:There was a stingy smell in the room. Bed was creaky. No breakfast included. Was not a very comfortable stay. We did not have a rented car so had to pay a lot for taxi to this place everyday. One lady driving the super shuttle from airport fooled us into paying more saying other taxis will ask for $80 to this place so asked us to pay $25 pp ( we paid $50 for two) but we later found out the taxis were a better and cheaper option ( only $25 to and from the city). Did not expect this cheap tactic to earn some extra bucks in a place like new zealand.
Review 82:The hotel was placed in a beautiful location. View from the room was awesome.
Review 83:Water in shower took a while to run hot, but no issue once running.
Review 84:A little way out of town but great value for money and no problem if you have a car. Large clean, comfortable room with kitchenette. Access to communal kitchen (help kept food costs down on the road) and laundry facilities were also handy.
Review 85:we had very noisy neighbours one night in the next room that partied until 1am
Review 86:well equipped kitchen, large room, clean and comfortable, convenient location for those wishing to be put of the town
Review 87:No bad experience at all
Review 88:Great value for money. Spacious, comfortable bedroom and bathroom. Nice little patio area. We were out most of the time so did not make use of the kitchen or BBQ facilities provided.
Review 89:the kitchen was big but some of the equipment was in need of replacement, especially some of the pots and pans. Oven was not working.
Review 90:the room was spacious, good beds, good linen and bathroom
Review 91:Bad mobile network coverage in the room, but it's not a problem of the hotel :)
Review 92:Nice and quite place, very helpful staff, very comfortable, the supermarket is 10 min. drive
Review 93:It wasn't a far drive from downtown Queenstown. Wouldn't recommend staying if you don't have a car. The shared kitchen facilities were really nice. Room and bathroom were clean. Just missing a table in the room. And wifi didn't work too well.
Review 94:Paying extra for Wi-Fi. Adding a couple of dollars to the room rate would be more acceptable to me.
Review 95:Quiet, out of town location. Supermarket nearby. Simple check-in/check-out.
Review 96:loved it, but warning - it is 7 km out of town.
Review 97:Awesome for a family, great value for money. Loved the large room with kitchenette, the industrial kitchen and the family room with pool table, and onsite parking. Great bbq area and outdoor open fire. Unfortunately we didn't stay long enough to utilise these.
Review 98:Poor view (from OUR roor) A bit far from city center
Review 99:Kitchen has more to offer than all other facilities, cook like a chef (may require a Hat to be able to)
Review 100:Parking was an issue, if you returned after a certain time there was no parking available. Also no phone coverage available in room had to go outside by the gate
Review 101:Great views
Review 102:No free wifi
Review 103:Great views, 5 mins drive from the centre of Queenstown but far enough from the city noise. Rooms have everything you need and there's a shared kitchen available.
Review 104:As we were a family with young children that also required entertaining it would be good to have a play area or a pool for the mornings or evenings. This accommodation more suits those without children. Or if your just staying one night so the children won't mind
Review 105:I liked that the accommodation was in close proximity to everything which made getting around really easy. Staff were friendly and helpful when it came to making bookings for experiences. Room facilities were great and comfortable
Review 106:A little bit out of Queenstown - not a bad thing though if you're on your way out of town or want somewhere a bit quieter
Review 107:Large spacious room, nice clean modern bathroom, friendly helpful staff, much better value for money than other similar priced accommodation in Queenstown, would definitely stay here again.
Review 108:We were impressed with the thought, care and attention that has gone into the lodge. There was a more than generous supply of milk in the fridge, and towels, soap etc. The landscaping and the building were top quality. Well done.
Review 109:Had to pay for wi-fi.
Review 110:Nothing spectacular. It reminded me of ski lodges here in the US. It's a short (10 mins) drive from Queenstown. If you want to get away from the city's noise this is a good place to stay. Our room was very clean. It's close to Ohsen Hot Pools, which is a must do!
Review 111:All guests are free to smoke outside their rooms, perhaps one side of the building could be allocated as non-smoking for the sake of young families, and avid non smokers. One evening we had to keep the doors and windows shut due to a chain smoker next door!
Review 112:lovely views, good facilities, well stocked and cleaned, spacious room, bus link, family value, great staff
Review 113:Internet and mobile coverage was very poor. No land line in room. Had a difficult time ordering take out after a long awesome day of exploring.
Review 114:Stunning scenery at the lodge. Friendly staff, can't wait to return.
Review 115:Problem getting any phone signal and poor tv channel choice.
Review 116:Very good value for money, clean and comfortable with stunning views from window. Everything required was on site.
Review 117:We went in summer time for 3 days, we enjoyed so much. Stunning mountain view from the lodge. Very quiet and relaxing area. Only few minutes drive to supermarket. Had a walking track nearby for dog walk too. The room is very clean and it is over what we expected with their special rate. Had a wonderful time there! Nothing to complain and will definitely stay there again next time!
Review 118:Would upgrade next time as sleeping in same room with teenage children not ideal.
Review 119:Staff very helpful. We extended our stay at short notice and Courtney moved mountains to accommodate us. Thank you.
Review 120:The fact the door didn't lock automatically and the bathroom window seemed to need to be a bit higher as felt like people could see in.
Review 121:Great little unit. Awesome facilities in the room.
Review 122:Keep in mind the location- it is a 10min drive out from town. Was fine for us having a rental car. Also needing to pay for Wi-Fi but that was fine.
Review 123:The very affordable for Queenstown price! Clean and simple place to sleep while enjoying exploring Queenstown during the day.
Review 124:We had kitchen facilities in our room but no where to sit and eat apart from beds or the floor. We ended up bringing to small table in from outside but it only had 1 seat which is not ideal for a family of 4.
Review 125:The room was a good size and comfortable. kitchen facilities I the room were good.
Review 126:I didn't mind to much but with vodafone there is no coverage. Not the lodges doing, just vodafone missing places.
Review 127:Loved the fact it was out of Queenstown. So when it came to sleeping, there was no cars, no drinking, nothing at all!
Review 128:The bed was average to sleep on my husband thought it was a bit hard but it wasn't to bad in the end we would stay there again.
Review 129:I recommend the lodge to anyone that asks we will stay there again me and my husband enjoyed staying there. kylie
Review 130:Noise is not very good, you can hear the sound of another room, shared kitchen and too far away from our room, the hallway look like a small maze, the children might get lost. washing machine is not free for use
Review 131:the motel close Queenstown and Arrowtown, they have big kitchen and pool table
Review 132:Everything was spotless except the toilet brush, which had a vile lagoon of scum in its holder which made the whole bathroom stink. Charmless corridors.
Review 133:Spacious rooms, good heating, nice alpine location, good facilities and amenities, comfortable beds.
Review 134:the kitchen is not open 24hours: there was a time when i had an itchy throat and i need a pinch of salt to mix in a glass of warm water to gargle (home remedy) before going to bed and upon waking up but unfortunately the kitchen is already closed.
Review 135:friendly and approachable staff cleanliness of the place
Review 136:We stayed there for 3 nights. The place clean nice and not really far from the town around 5 mins drive. And really close to shotover boat. The room alright have microcave, toaster but also have share kitchen for guest quite big and look clean. We recommend second floor view more nicer. This time we stayed ground floor couldn't see anything but over all we don't mind to go back this place.
Review 137:A bit far from Queenstown centre if you have a car its fine. Wifi is not for free!
Review 138:The view from surrounding area is absolutely beautiful. The room is clean and big enough for three. Good value for money.
Review 139:The confusion access to room
Review 140:Very friendly and helpful staff. Location is not directly near to Queenstown main centre but still reasonable driving distance. Proximity to the Shotover jet boating place. Room reasonably spacious. Good security with key access to exit doors especially during night.
Review 141:No chairs or table in the room, not even a couch. We are both in our seventies and did not fancy hiking up the stairs to the communal lounge to relax. Apart from that we were delighted with our stay there.
Review 142:Grand setting in the mountains, clean conditions, friendly, helpful staff, pleasant room, neat attractive grounds. It is a place to come home to at night rather than somewhere to spend the day.
