Reviews for The Hobbit Motorlodge

Review 1:The unit was very dark, with no outlook and there were no kitchen facilities in the unit, so even though we had a kettle, toaster and dishes, there was no where to wash them up, until I asked if I could use the backpackers kitchen. The dining table was very wobbly.

Review 2:Good to be so near to Mountain and Ohakune. The proprietors were really friendly and helpful, and the outdoor spa was fantastic!

Review 3:The temporary manager went out of his way to help us. We booked a room and upon arrival the room was not up to his standard so he placed us in another room, no fuss, no extra charge. Excellent service, thanks

Review 4:The staff were very flexible as we were a large group that arrived at different times of the day and they were most helpful. Nothing was too much trouble and we always felt looked after and catered for.

Review 5:A heated towel would be nice! Towels didn't dry during our winter stay... We could have helped save the environment by reusing!!! Also we thought another small shelf in the kitchen to house the toaster and kettle would have given us a bit more bench space in the morning while these items were out... And some books to hang the ski jackets on. All minor really!

Review 6:Well sized two bedroom units for our family of 5 (one child sleeping in the lounge). Clean and nicely furnished.

Review 7:The kitchen is quite small and gets crowded at peak times. A bit difficult to get in the top bunk beds as there is no ladder.

Review 8:Good location, lovely staff, electric blankets and heaters, TV in a room, free WiFi, really good shower pressure, parking just in front of the windows. Good value for the price.

Review 9:Beds were totally uncomfortable but you get what you pay for! :)

Review 10:Location of motel, staff friendliness and helpfulness, pretty clean and tidy for an old place

Review 11:no kitchen sink - expected to fill kettle from bathroom sink which it would not fit under. washing dishes in bathroom sink is a health issur

Review 12:very ordinary and over priced

Review 13:The kitchen is too small.

Review 14:Good value - a room to myself, small and simple, with shared bathroom and kitchen. Perfect for the budget conscious, solo traveller.

Review 15:the bunk bed are really uncomfortable. there are no ladder to climb up to the top bed so I had to jump up. the kitchen is really small.

Review 16:we have what we need.

Review 17:Washing dishes in the bathroom sink. Filling our water bottles in the shower. Our room had food that was not ours under the sofa.

Review 18:Nice place, clean on our arrival. Spa and trampoline. Helpful staff, family atmosphere. Sent a message to me, we had left our daughters new toy behind. They are posting it back.

Review 19:It's 2015. Wifi should always be free. We all have 4g & global roaming on our phones now and can have easy net access regardless, so we aren't dependent on, rather it's a nice thing to see 'free wifi'. To put things in perspective, McDonalds has free wifi. TV in the room was very small, bed mattress was a bit average but given the price both were ok.

Review 20:Clean, tidy, good location, modest, very friendly staff, well priced.

Review 21:The facility was rates 4 star in the Booking.com info but was in fact about 2.5 star - the bathroom facilities were ordinary

Review 22:Plenty of parking and staff were good

Review 23:Its a pity there isn't an overhead bed light. Reading in bed in the bottom bunk was very difficult. The one and only light in the room was by the door ...so was the light switch. The bathroom floor was flooded and cold.....and for the evening when most usage takes place there was a need for a review of the state of cleanliness.

Review 24:Quiet, warm, comfortable sleeping 'cell'....The small kitchenette was adequate...but no spoons available in cutlery drawers. I am glad the place wasn 't crowded.

Review 25:The staff were very friendly and pleasant. Will definitely stay again because of the customer service. The location was great, 2 minute walk to Ohakune's main Centre. TV in every room, bathroom facilities were clean. Would definitely recommend The Hobbit Moterlodge for the winter season :)

Review 26:Nothing

Review 27:Nothing to do with the hobbit. Good location for visiting the volcano. Ideal skiing venue. Clear weather and good views of volcano in morning when we left but unfortunately we went around to Whakapapa and could not go up as the weather had deteriorated.

Review 28:Rooms Could have a basic kitchen installed, but as we were only there two nights we could manage without. Shared kitchen was too busy to cook.

Review 29:great beds, two bedrooms at a reasonable price. Spa.

Review 30:We were there only one night. The staff was very nice and helpful. Good location and quiet, felt safe there. Parking right outside the room. Property had a giant Beech tree as a point of interest if you like trees.

Review 31:Apparently we were not allowed to use the kitchen to cook, but they did allow us to wash our dishes...

Review 32:The manager helped us when our car overheated- gave us advice and pointed us to automotive services.

Review 33:Fridge, dishes and cutlery, toaster, jug - all ticks - Not having a kitchen sink and the bathroom sink being a reasonable distance away not so good

Review 34:The quiet and the room inside the unit

Review 35:My partner and I, with our teenager discovered this gem by chance as we decided to break up our trip to wellington. The units are a generous size and are kept spotlessly clean. The hosts are lovely and upgraded our room without hesitation to meet our needs. It is quiet and walking distance to Ohakune township. It is a truly excellent place to stay and I cannot recommend it highly enough!!

Review 36:The apartment would desire a small kitchenette as IT only featured a fridge and the kettle and toaster were placed on the fridge, which was rather uncomfortable.

Review 37:We had a two bedroom apartment with spacey common space and spacey bathroom, too. Clean place, friendly owner/manager, parking just in front of the door. Close to the Mountain Road for skiing (but we stayed there in summer). Very good wi-fi.

Review 38:The kitchen is quite small.

Review 39:Our stay at the Hobbit was very enjoyable, great location. We spent most of our time up the mountain, so only needed a dorm room for 2, it was great to come back to a safe, secure, friendly lodge. It is very clean and well equipped. Would go back.

Review 45:Bunks were too low/felt claustrophobic Wifi only free for an hour

Review 46:Location

Review 47:Convenient, economical place to spend the night - we stayed in a 2 bed bunk room which provided all we needed.

Review 48:Place is tired, run down and sad and at $262 a night is expensive. Would hate to analyse the water in the hot pool. Toxic I suspect.

Review 105:ait was handy to our venue. We had a lovely relaxing time and we had a good sleep at night. Beds were very comfy and slept like a log. Ha Ha. Would come here again if up this way any time. Thankyou for letting us, my granddaughter and I stay for that extra hour before leaving, appreciate that very much. You were lovely. Thankyou. Noeline, Palmerston North

Review 106:The entry to the motorlodge is not visible at night. The sign has no lights.

Review 107:The room was an excellent place to relax after the day. Comfortable beds and an awesome view of the maunga.

Review 108:Needed more (and more accessible) power points; difficult to charge phone and camera. This is becoming increasingly important for travellers. While the studio was very comfortable overall, the bed was very hard.

Review 109:Very friendly staff, spacious studio, good shower. Overall comfortable.

Review 110:A small elevated TV. No moveable fan to cool the room and ourselves after a VERY hot day.

Review 111:A bright friendly welcome after a long journey. A simple checking in. The offer of milk...free..to get the tea on the table. A cheerful bit of advice as to where to shop and then where to walk in temperatures of 35 degrees.

Review 112:This accommodation really was excellent in every way-owners who took such a pride in their work ,were pleasant, efficient and informative. The whole establishment was spotlessly clean. The best place we have stayed in New Zealand

Review 113:Leigh at the Hobbit was an absolute wonder. We were staying to do the Tongoriro Crossing, and when the weather packed up she spent a lot of time helping us out with other activity options in the area. Good value for money, comfortable and adequate, exactly what we needed for our stay.
