Reviews for Nomads Queenstown Backpackers

Review 1:Most uncomfortable bed I have slept on in 3 months of travelling. Bathroom was disgusting all the time, kitchen was the same. Room was jammed with people so no space for your bags.

Review 2:Good location, staff helped with any problems.

Review 3:Some roommate talked loud, sing and play something like a guitar about 23 pm. The room does not have bathroom, only shared bathrooms in the level for all rooms.

Review 4:Hostel located in downtown.

Review 5:some dorm rooms have no windows, so the air does not smell good.

Review 6:bathroom is very clear, modern and wonderful! staff is very nice. big lounge room and comfortable sofas to relax on.

Review 7:The hostel is very central. However there is a nightclub right next door which had a very loud base and kept us awake until 3am!

Review 8:the hostel was clean and comfortable with great facilities.

Review 9:- The breakfast "included": just toasts, the kitchen is crowded and you don't even understand what you can take, don't wake up for that - Noisy, but it's because of the good location - Very big hostel, kitchen often crowded - No towel for the hands in the female dorm with private bathroom

Review 10:- Individual lights in the dorm - Comfortable beds

Review 11:The pop music playing everywhere in the hostel and bars around is quite too much after a long day of traveling. Of course, if you are the party-party type, this place is for you. If you look for a place to relax and sleep, go somewhere else

Review 12:I didn't like that there are a lot of background noises during the night from the pubs nearby. Would be good if they can improve the noise insulation of rooms or perhaps provide guests with ear plugs.

Review 13:I like that it is close to just about everything in Queenstown - the lake, shops, & restaurants.

Review 14:Beds were old and felt the springs on my back. Bathroom wasn't as clean as it could've been. Very loud in the room due to bars downstairs. Highly recommend taking a good set of ear plugs.

Review 15:Great location. Good value for money. Relatively clean for a hostel.

Review 16:Lot of noise from inside the hostel during the night, as well as in the dorm, where several drunk people entered in the middle of the night, despite card access. In addition two people initiating to have sex in the dorm in the middle of the night and only stopped after light was put on. Despite all this, there was nobody from the hostel that was controlling these drunk people making a lot of noise.

Review 17:Overall a good hostel with a good location

Review 18:Fairly uncomfortable and unclean to stay in. We were woken up about ten times by drunk visitors to our dorm, two of whom were getting intimate on the bottom bunk.

Review 19:Easy to get to. Large lounge area with big kitchen.

Review 20:Not the best place to stay if you are a light sleeper as quite a bit of noise into the wee hours from a bar under the building.

Review 21:Comfy beds and nice rooms for sleep-ins. Lovely view too. The staff are very friendly.

Review 22:the bed mattress was very hard and i could feel the springs when lying on my side so i did'nt have the best sleep.. other than that it was a good stay .

Review 23:was all good honest .

Review 24:Nomads is at the front/center of Queenstown, excellent location, even if you have to park your car at 2 blocks away by Queenstown garden, still it's not far to walk back. It is a noticeable complex in town. However if you want a quiet place this is not for you. It's surrounded by bars, very live in the night, we were so tired at end of travel, it did not prevent us from falling sleep at all. Double private room we had is spacious, enough for us (not like the one we stayed at X Base Wanaka, barely had room to turn!). It shares a balcony with another room. Queenstown has so many options for eating out, we didn't have chance to cook here, but kitchen looks good. Queenstown is the place to crash in after a long NZ tour, we made the happy choice to stay with Nomads.

Review 25:There is free wifi for an hour a day but it would be great if there was unlimited wifi.

Review 26:Apon arrival we were warmly welcomed by a highly informative and happy staff member. Our room was spectacular and very hygienic. The location could not get any batter if you tried. It would be my choice of accomodation if I stayed again.

Review 27:washing basin at bathroom is very small that not able to put the cup in to fill water, and pity that the balcony facing the kichen of a restaurant, you aren't able to open the door due to the strong smell. Wifi only available at common room on 1st floor but not able to connect.

Review 28:great location at reasonable price, we stayed at king bed room with private bathroom and balcony. room is clean and tidy. Though simple, free breakfast and dinner are provided.

Review 29:Being in the middle of town it was very noisy. We expected that and didn't mind but people should be aware that Queenstown never sleeps!

Review 30:Staff were friendly, room was immaculate with a great view, free breakfast and dinner was a bonus too even though we didn't have any.

Review 31:Wifi is not free (at least the speed is decent) Lockers are too small. (Handbag sized) No plugs near the bed.

Review 32:Balcony in front of the 6 Bed Dorm. Large Lounge Area

Review 33:At around £50 a night it is just tight expecting a guest to pay extra for wifi / internet use. Only 4 TV channels worked - and the tv made a buzzing noise the whole time. So that was pointless for us. If you want the heating on you have to go downstairs to ask for it, every single time, as no phone in the room. We were on the top floor so this was a pain. Clearly they did it to save money on heating. Our room backed on to 3 bars / clubs so it was really noisy until about 4am every night - take ear plugs! They didn't change sheets or towels for the 4 days we were there - every 2/3 days is pretty normal even for a hostel. They don't accept Amex as the charges are "too expensive" despite being one of the priciest hostels in town. No designated parking.

Review 34:Right in centre of town and close to everything you need. You can book your activities in the hotel, but I'd say shop around as you may find it cheaper / better elsewhere. Comfortable bed, good sized room, and nice hot shower. Fridge in room was useful too. Staff were really friendly. There was a sauna and a large room / activity area for pool and eating etc. Nice view from the balcony, although would have been nice if they'd cleaned the cigarette ends up from the last guests! Seems that Queenstown in general is pretty expensive, this is probably one of the better places from what I've heard.

Review 35:The hotel is very badly soundproofed. When people entered the room next to ours, it felt like they were in our room. The terraces are shared, this means that people may walk out on their terrace and stare into your room. There was no notice of this, and we therefore had to keep curtains shut during our stay for privacy.

Review 36:A very central location, excellent value for money as we got a big private room at a great rate. The building is brand new and close to the lake, you have views of the lake from our room.

Review 37:Miscommunication between staff over bedding arrangement due to changes which they were notified about prior to stay...

Review 38:The staff were helpful and they has some relatively good facilities.

Review 39:The noise from the bars next door at 3am and then the rubbish/recycling being emptied each morning around 7am.

Review 40:Very close to everything and the room and bed was very comfortable.

Review 41:Bed was just 2 singles joined together wasnt very comfortable at all. Tv picture poor.

Review 42:Location was spot on. There's secure parking next door for $10 per day. Big balcony had moutain / lane way view

Review 43:Clean, modern, friendly and well looked after! It's great chilled out and fun place to stay even if you don't want the typical crazy nights out in Queenstown! Even if your a solo traveller like I was!

Review 44:Workers were rude, we woke up to enjoy the free breakfast of toast with spreads. Our toast popped and the lady rudely pulled away all of the spreads and demanded that breakfast was over. We are manager and supervisor of a tourism company and would never recommend this place due to the way we were treated.

Review 45:It was a little noisy in the weekend from the bars below

Review 46:The location, the rooms where really nice, nice big kitchen with a fire place and lounge attached.

Review 47:For some reason they don't give AC remote to you. For changing the setting or temperature, you need to visit reception where they do it from their computers. And to add to your misery, the settings that you wants getting set to some bizarre default every time you switch off and switch on the AC. Our room for most of the days was hot like a furnace. For my 4 days stay in the property, we could sleep comfortably only for one night.

Review 48:Location was really good. Right in the middle of the town. The tours departed from the doorstep.

Review 49:Bedsheet felt a little dusty. Shampoo provided was expired.

Review 50:Central location in town. Very modern and hip. Good to have a counter for travel enquiries.

Review 51:The room was a bit cold. Plus the showers had a strong air circulation exactly over the shower which made froze when taking a shower. Definitely you need to do something with that.

Review 52:Very good Hostel, clean, centrally located. Modern and cozy inside.

Review 53:Don't call it " light breakfast": you have to do all by your self, no assistance at all!! There was not anything, not even a coffee! In the bathroom you don't find ANY rack for the towels..

Review 54:I arrived at 6pm beds were not cleaned in two rooms, reception had to go clean the room. Then told to get out of the bed by a boy in the room who reckoned I was in his bed, reception did nothing about this. Then charged for checking out 20mins late when I had to sit around for half an hour when I first arrived at 6pm whilst they cleaned the beds which had not been done previously. Place was dirty and staff rude. Stayed in many base hostels throughout Oz and NZ and this is the worst! Stay away!

Review 55:The free breakfast didnt get a look in no bread left to make a toast, and would be great if you had some face clothes for those with their own bathrooms

Review 56:Pretty much everything right in town helpful staff

Review 57:Only minor thing was the room had big glass windows so was much colder at night on that side and heating was controlled by reception but they gave a hotwater bottle :)

Review 58:We stayed in a private ensuite room. Really nice place, clean great facilities -was like staying in a hotel. Helpful booking desk at reception, free breakfast and dinner vouchers. Would definitely stay again.

Review 59:Lovely hostel in Queenstown! More expensive than others in the area, but had a much more comfortable stay compared to another hostel I stayed in nearby for a cheaper price. Comfortable clean rooms, lovely staff, well located, worth a little extra money.

Review 60:The staff were helpful and lovely to deal with. The room I stayed in was nice and clean and all of the facilities were well kept. I would definitely stay there again!

Review 61:Sadly I didn’t get a decent night sleep during my stay here. Be warned, this is very much a loud party hostel. There were drunk people passed out in the lounge covered in kebabs, people stumbling in loudly and having sex in the rooms and you can hear nearby music all night. Not to mention people throwing up in the morning.I like a good time as much as the next person, and I’ve stayed in enough hostels to know this happens, but sometimes you just want to sleep and this seemed too much. If you’re young, wild and want to party then this is the place for you… You’ll have a great time. But if you prefer a quieter place where you can get a good night sleep this is definitely not for you. Doing laundry was a pain as most of the machines were out of order due to overheating and the Wifi cost a fortune, hard to justify when so many other hostels offer it for free. Also the luggage storage room is not a secure place to keep your bags as they give the key to anyone who asks without question. Hard to recommend i’m afraid.

Review 62:Facilities are decent. It’s warm, has good showers and the staff were very helpful and friendly. They work hard and are accommodating so no complaints there.

Review 63:WiFi wasn't free but it was pretty cheap to buy some Breakfast we only had once because there was only toast served

Review 64:We had a good stay here, great location and a nice place

Review 65:The kitchen was kind of dirty and the cutlery were not enough. Also, the breakfast was just merely bread and jam, coffee and tea, without milk. The hot water machine broke down for the whole week during my stay. Therefore I had to wait for the water to boil in a kettle everytime I need hot water.

Review 66:The location

Review 67:it was too noisy in the night because of the bar. And my roommates and their friends were loud everynight! No free wifi at all and the boiling water machine in the kitchen is always "out of order".

Review 68:The location is great, nearby the lake and central, cozy bed and clean room.

Review 69:A male member of staff liked to just enter your room without knocking first, he even entered the female bathrooms. There's not sufficient space in the kitchen for all the people. The staff don't care if you are woken up by the hoovering at 6.30am or by any of the drunk young people staying there. Avoid if you want to sleep. Bathrooms were not kept clean and the underneath of my bed had clearly not seen a hoover for some time.

Review 70:The location. The mad travel desk.

Review 71:I didn't appreciate the springs in the mattress poking in my back.

Review 72:There were good shouwers. There is a free sauna and I like the big chill area witch couches and a fire place.

Review 73:The beds werent very comfortable and heaps of messy, loud English girls :D

Review 74:Balcony, Location, Modern and charming design of living area, reception and bathrooms.

Review 75:They said breakfast was included in the room price but didn't mention you had to make it yourself in their shared kitchen. Also, while bathroom was fantastic in the private room, the ledge above the sink is impractical as it makes it difficult to brush your teeth or wash your face over the sink.

Review 76:Really great location and walking distance to everything. Staff was fantastic and overall really great facility. Private room and bathroom was great and was overall quiet during later hours of the night.

Review 77:Unfortunately, it was also close to night time venues, and noise does drift up and over the balcony to keep you awake.

Review 78:Location was great, as it was walking distance to everything we needed. Twin share en suite rooms are the way to go.

Review 79:Noisey. Band in local pub till 3 am. However it's people enjoying themselves and I could have joined them. I'm not complaining.

Review 80:Friendly staff. Location fabulous. The no alcohol policy is great.

Review 81:The room me and my fiance stayed in was very tidy and comfortable. The staff were very friendly and helpful. We both enjoyed our stay and will happily stay at a nomads backpackers again

Review 82:He credited by card when I late for the hotel. We just arrived late at 2115 hours and he assumed our 'no show' and charged my card. This is an unpleasant experience.

Review 83:Friday night would be a bit noisy as my room was facing the bars. The rest of the week is fine.

Review 84:Excellent location. Comfortable bed and spacious room. Free additional comfortable bed for my 5-yr girl. Helpful staff. Nice helper at kitchen to uphold its cleaniness.

Review 85:I think you need hooks to hang up clothes in the room. When we stayed the first time we had a cupboard in the room.I realise that was a top room but hooks or a shelf wouldn't cost much

Review 86:The brilliant staff

Review 87:As I had booked my stay well in advance and a private room, I was expecting a room with a balcony but ended up on the inside with no windows. It was not bad for the price though as I was only staying for one night.

Review 88:I liked the courtesy and helpfulness of the staff.

Review 89:Not really sure why they have music playing throughout the hostel constantly during the day, it made it kinda hard to sleep if you want to sneak in a nap. The noise from the street was pretty loud at night because it was right next to a few pubs (although they do offer free earplugs at reception). The free dinners start at 6pm but apparently lots of people line up much earlier, and the food ran out quite quickly so there wasn't enough to go around.

Review 90:The staff were really friendly and helpful. The room was really clean and had everything we needed. The hostel was really close to the lake, restaurants and where tour and intercity buses depart from.

Review 91:Bread offered for breakfast the cheapest possible and catering spread...ugh. Not enough room around Kingsize bed as no wardrobe for clothes. Queensize bed would give more room. Shower designed by an idiot with mixer tap on wall opposite shower head so easy to bump into when showering. Tiny washbasin with glass shelf for toiletries at awkward height.

Review 92:very convenient location and good rate for room with kingsize bed/ensuite staff very helpful. Good-sized room to leave luggage if doing a tramp and away for a few days but no security check when depositing/uplifting luggage.

Review 93:Very minor complaint. A small shelf in the bathroom would be appreciated.

Review 94:We booked a double room which was really good for a backpackers, just as good as a hotel. Great location, fast check in. Clean and tidy. Very good price I thought. I will always use this place when in Queenstown.

Review 95:Bed most uncomfortable one on whole trip (advised staff at reception) - slept on top of duvets and other blankets to avoid springs digging into back. No other rooms / bed available at time.

Review 96:Great location near the lake, very friendly staff at the travel desk (bookings adventures etc.)

Review 97:Wifi - costs extra, and wasn't possible to log in to Kitchen not kept very clean

Review 98:Modern hostel with good facilities Free burger for dinner Room quiet (had a private room)

Review 99:There was a restaurant in front of the room and they had loud music until midnight. The storage room was really small but of course it was better than nothing. The whitebread-marmelad-breakfast was nothing for me...

Review 100:Rooms were beautiful. The free supper was really nice surprise.

Review 101:There was a lot of noise from bars outside at night. Although the room was nice the price was about the same as a hotel (so should be expected). The included breakfast consisted of toast and butter only.

Review 102:We stayed in a double room, and the room was nice (especcially for a backpackers) and in a really central spot

Review 103:It would be nice if drinks(coffee, tea, chocolate) also provided.

Review 104:Great location with lift equipped, bathroom is clean and big. 4 dorm room with balcony, can chit chat at night or even early morning while enjoying the fresh air during the summer time. Simple breakfast provided with bread, butter and jam.

Review 105:Stayed in king ensuite, which was comfortable and clean.. Great location, could walk to everything.. Fun activities like the nomads pub crawl had us meeting new people.. Would stay there again..

Review 106:wifi costs $4/day. No alcohol allowed in the hostel.

Review 107:Balconies are great. Get a room facing the front street. The back rooms are more noisy and also get smoke from nearby BBQs.

Review 108:Pretty expensive for 4 person dorm, right next to kitchen/lounge, really loud at all times of the day Heard drunk people screaming until 4am, inside and outside of the hostel Shameful amount of advertising, walls, bathroom, everywhere, even on key cards Wifi not free ($4!) Super squeaky bed Staff looked exhausted, no personal service just a memorised speech about the hostel. Staff swapped halfway through my check in so I had to present my I.D twice This is just about money making, no one really cares about you having a enjoyable stay

Review 109:Laundry Balcony bathrooms were clean

Review 110:I think the price for a king size bedroom is a bit pricy for what you get. The king bed is actually two bed. So not possible to sleep in the middle because you feel the difference of the high of the mattresses ;).

Review 111:The location is really good. The staff is helpful and kind. I liked that my private room was very quiet.

Review 112:Nothing just the best

Review 113:the double room is just the best room we had during our trip in nz. the hotel is in the center, super clean, bed really comfortable, free breakfast and free diner (!!!!).

Review 114:Great location and for the price. Stayed in a king room which is on a different floor from the bunk rooms which worked for us as was reasonably quiet. Gave the free breakfast a miss as was only toast and jam but they have facilities to cook/make your own

Review 115:The room was a bit like a prison cell, no window to be opened, quite stuffy. And no reading light by the bed.

Review 116:Location. Extremely helpful staff. Very clean bedroom.

Review 117:Was not warned before hand that this hostel is alcohol free. While in the bathroom at about 9.30am (when it was busiest as everyone is getting ready for day) they kicked us out to clean. This should be done after 10am (check out time). Also two times a hostel staff member just walked into our room with no knock or acknowledgement. We have stayed at numerous hostels and realise that they come in and check and clean, however we found it incredibly rude and inappropriate that the staff members don't even knock. Someone could have been changing or anything. At one point I was kneeling on floor looking in my bag, I stood and turned around to find a man standing about 3 feet away. Not sure if I would stay again purely for this reason as it made us very uncomfortable.

Review 118:The location was great. Very central - could walk everywhere. We stayed in an 8 bed share room and it was very spacious. Free dinners most days, but have to be quick as everyone lines up.

Review 119:After having to pay for the wifi, There was no wifi signal in our room, so we had to go in the hallway to use the Internet which was very inconvenient

Review 120:The hotel is too crowded and loud. The washing machines smell. The bathroom for standard hotel room is way too small and small sink is practically not useable. There is a $1500 fine if the hot shower trigger the alarm; although my alarm did not trigger, I think it is ridiculous to make customer pay. To me this means, hotel needs to fix their alarm system or shower. Staff were not as helpful as requests had to be made multiple times before resolution. It could be that the hotel was overcrowded and staff could not handle capacity.

Review 121:Ensuite room was fair with basic hotel amenities. Location was good if one prefers to be right in the middle of town. Great if you are looking for hostel lifestyle, but not ideal if you want peace and quiet.

Review 122:although not mentioned, dinner is also served in the hostel which is great. unfortunately, its only small quantity and not that great, so dont keep your hopes up. good for a snack, but wont keep your belly full!

Review 123:booked this place last minute because i needed to cheap place to stay at last minute, but boy was i wrong! it was way more than that. In fact, it's the best hostel i stayed at so far; perfect location, funky design and, above all, fun staff! I also got to meet like-minded people on my visit. highly recommend!

Review 124:Only downside is you have to pay for the wifi but when you do it is a good quality connection so worth it!

Review 125:Location good. Helpful staff. Comfortable room! Free breakfast.

Review 126:Noise!!! Won't recommended to light sleepers.

Review 127:I stayed in mix dorm and female dorm. If you are a girl and live regular life style. Do choose the female dorm. If you are young, enjoy meeting energetic people just like u this is the perfect place.

Review 128:No parking provided.

Review 129:We stay in king room with private bathroom. Room is very clean, bed is big. Kitchen is well-equiped. The lounge has really good atmosphere.

Review 130:A couple had sex in the room when we were sleeping. Just Being in the same hostel when kiwi experience is there is a experience of is own! I now stay away from the bigger hostels becouse of my bad experience sevrel Times'.

Review 131:Bad location, the bar is so close to my room. AND it should be used to serve for tourists or backpackers, not for girls who work around there to prepare for parties! Return late in the night or say, in the early in the next morning. Dominate the room just like it was the house under their name...A lot of unhappy memories about the roommates!

Review 132:New equipment, clean, free breakfast, effective staff

Review 133:Barmuda's parties carry on onto the night. No free parking spaces nearby. Pillow softer than cotton wool.

Review 134:Location - very central. Free brekkie - generous. Clean clean clean - happy. Dry accommodation - neutral feeling.

Review 135:- bathrooms were not clean (which is a bit understandable when I consider the amount of people staying at the hostel but could be improved)

Review 136:- breakfast included - big kitchen/dining room - very helpful staff - position in the center of Queenstown - good price
