Reviews for The River Lodge
Review 1:Location, much further from the nearest town then stated on the website. Same goes for the distance to all the hikes. Host was glacial, not welcoming and his personal presentation was poor. Definitely not value for money.
Review 2:The Cottage was ok but could do with refurbishment. Grounds were nice.
Review 3:Very rude and unhelpful owner/staff. They need to experience how a lodge should be run. Lack of easy directions and very hard to find in the dark.
Review 4:Nice rural location with great view of the mountain
Review 5:Fantastic accommodation, lovely cottage with fire and wooden floors and excellent hosts. We had a wonderful stay and would highly recommend this accommodation. Liz and Alex were amazing hosts and made us feel very welcome. We had great breakfasts and they were extremely helpful. Our daughter thought they were wonderful. She had a great experience feeding a lamb with Liz, thanks for a wonderful weekend.
Review 6:Nothing as it was perfect!
Review 7:The River Lodge is stunningly beautiful. Everything was perfect and despite the fact that our stay was cut short due to unforeseen circumstances the owner Eliott and staff Liz have been very understanding. I can't wait to stay here again.
Review 8:Would have enjoyed a little more water pressure but understand how difficult it is with a water pump. Otherwise fantastic.
Review 9:Loved the quiet location and the cabin was just perfect.
Review 10:Beautiful location only a short drive from the ski slopes. Eliot the owner was friendly and helpful, and our chalet was comfortable and clean. We had a really lovely stay at the River Lodge.
Review 11:Accommodation was very comfortable and clean. Elliot the owner was very friendly and helpful. The accommodation was close to the city center and the not a long drive to the Ski Area.
Review 12:My husband and I had a wonderful time on our honeymoon - warm, inviting, relaxing place with wonderful hosts Gayle and Denton always going that extra mile or simply there for a chat. Great place to stay - would recommend to all!
Review 13:The mismatched showerhead, but Denton replaced it same day. We all prefer real bacon not the fat-free reconstituted stuff - but that's a very small niggle.
Review 14:Almost everything.
Review 15:Not much
Review 16:lovely house with lots of character, nice and warm, very cosy, comfy bed and beautiful bedroom with kind hosts. Would definitely staff there again
Review 17:Very cold in the morning on waking, as the fire had burnt out, but not much can be done about that
Review 18:Loved the location and the hut we stayed in was very private. Loved the wood burner in the hut to keep it warm
Review 19:Having to leave!
Review 20:Fantastic lodge in a picturesque setting - meant relaxing was easy. The fire was on when we got there, making the cosy cottage very warm and welcoming. This is a home away from home - wonderful hosts, dinner was superb, and it was lovely to be able to relax when we wanted to. Highly recommended!
Review 21:you must be able to drive ... not a walking distance from shops and restaurant .however van service available on request.
Review 22:close to ohakune... very helpful staff.. really comfortable accommodation . nothing to complain about would recommend to anyone .
Review 23:having to leave!
Review 24:The river lodge is located just outside of the Ohakune township, and is about 5-10 minute drive. You can add another 30 minutes for the Turoa skifields. We took one of the cottages, which were self contained and perfect for 3 people, (we have a small child). The cottage features a wood fire, and a ample supply of wood for the cold Ohakune nights. There are pet sheep, which delighted our son. The common areas are warm and welcoming, Gayle and Denton are wonderful hosts, would definately recommend.
Review 25:Being a young family, we were a bit surprised to see that our room was in the guest house rather than a free-standing cottage. The guest house was a bit restricting for the kids in that we had to constantly shush them so that noise did not carry to everyone else. Other than that, nothing else to complain about.
Review 26:As we wanted to take our young kids to see the snow, the location of this place was perfect (about 25min drive to the ski fields). Gayle and her husband were very hospitable and friendly. We stayed in a newly renovated room in the guest house and the communal lounge area had a very inviting fireplace which was always crackling away. Breakfast was a good start to the day. Would definitely recommend the lodge to everyone.
Review 27:Lovely rural location in homely surroundings.
Review 28:Lovely piece of paradise. Excellent hosts. Excellent breakfast too. I loved staying here.

Review 31:No tv in the bedroom
Review 32:The bedrooms were comfortable
Review 33:The whole place was great. Hosts were lovely. Chalet was amazing with massive comfortable beds, feather pillows, fireplace already blazing when we arrived. Hot tub, clean big bathroom. Even had friendly sheep that would come up to the fence to see you! Lovely cat too.
