Reviews for Peppers Beacon
Review 1:Some street noise (traffic/passers by), room quite warm and lacked ventilation. Louvre panels on bedroom doors (lack of privacy). Housekeeping left damp towels on couch! Wifi not free - stayed at cheap motels with free wifi so don't know why big hotels charge for it.
Review 2:Great location opp. lake and short walk to town; spacious, comfortable room; good firm bed.
Review 3:The parking is a joke.you pay $25 a day for parking.you pay and you go to the park,no parks left.so what happens when you go for tea and take your car ,someone that has also paid $25 gets the park.silly setup.plus you have to leave you car key at reception so they can move your car if need be but its at our risk if they cause damage.ridiculous.i wouldn't recommend.
Review 4:The staff are very friendly and helpful. The apartment had everything we wanted and was in a great location with beautiful views. Loved the bathroom products! Cannot fault anything. Thanks for a wonderful stay.
Review 5:There's absolutely no reason why a 5* hotel should not have complementary wifi in the rooms. It cost me $40 for a 3 day pass. If the supermarket down the road can offer it for free, why can't a luxury hotel? The wall's were thin as well. I could hear everything the family next door were saying.
Review 6:Well located. Always easy to find a spot in their car park. Rooms offer nice view over the lake.
Review 7:Wifi: The additional cost for wi-fi was extremely disappointing for a facility of this caliber ($25/day!) Housekeeping: The housekeeping service very poor. They arrived late in the day the second day (actually had to call to ask for service). When the two arrived, just changed towels, pulled up covers on the bed and started the dishwasher. They were in and out in five minutes... no sweeping or vaccumming the floors, cleaning up the kitchen, wiping countertops or refilling bathroom amenities. Master Bedroom layout: The master room was very small with no space to put luggage, plus the room we had had an odd ceiling that jutted out over the nightstand and caused me to hit my head on several occasions. Coffee: Very stingy of management to offer only two complimentary coffee pods for the entire stay.
Review 8:Views: Loved, loved. loved the views from our lakeview 2 bedroom suite. Location: Great location, close enough to town to walk but didn't have the noise or traffic to deal with. Front Desk Staff: extremely helpful and friendly (especially Henri). Patio/Living Room: Loved the large patio and spacious living room (see notes about the bedroom in the "not liked" comments).
Review 9:We struck hot weather and there was no air conditioning. We had to leave the balcony door open and there were people partying in the bbq area below our window until the early hours of the morning on 3 of the 4 nights we were there.
Review 10:A couple of staff were great, but overall a little stand-offish and not really willing to go the extra mile to help out. Wifi charges laughable!
Review 11:The location and the view.
Review 12:They charge you for every little thing! WIFI, credit card commission, breakfast, ... The bathrooms were not cleaned very well ( hair, dirt, ...)and got the shampoo and body wash from the last guests,,,
Review 13:The view is amazing, the staff is really friendly and helpful
Review 14:I think the disappointing part is that for a lesser price most places provide full sky tv. This only cam ed with pay per view. Although I recognise that these are owned privately as part of the hotel complex I do feel a minimum standard should be provided much like other hotels of this class
Review 15:Location
Review 16:The room we stayed in was in a location that was a bit noisy.
Review 17:Excellent location - easy walking distance to town centre. Staff were friendly and helpful.
Review 18:We didn't like (c) Being expected to pay for WiFi internet use, which we declined to use; and (d) The cooked breakfast was not great.
Review 19:We liked best (a) the friendliness of the helpful (all) staff; and (b) the free, self-operated laundry facilities.
Review 20:The view from the balcony was spectacular. It was relaxing sitting on the balcony watching the sun rise/set as well as having breakfast overlooking the lake. The room was comfortable and very large. I would definitely stay here again.
Review 21:Wifi is common & necessary for travellers to comminicate & do planning but has to be paid.
Review 22:1.Excellent views of Lake Wakatipu & the Remarkables. 2. Great location, easy accesses to all, just 5-10 minute walk to centre for shopping, activities & restaurants, stroll to Marine Parade. 3. Quiet, clean & comfortable.
Review 23:The amount of Chlorine in the spa was overpowering! Some ones shampoo and conditioner were left in the shower.
Review 24:The fact that it was within walking distance to the main pat of Queenstown.
Review 25:Really bad bed. Bathroom really slippery, not much in the way of cooking facilities. Paying for Internet seemd wrong. Movies were really expensive
Review 26:Location was good and apartment seemed very pleasant.
Review 27:Blown away with how nice this place was. Stayed in a two bedroom apartment. I didn't want to leave and go adventure it was that nice! Fire place topped it off!
Review 28:extra 2% service charge if using Mastercard or Visa pay, which was never happened in other hotels of New Zealand. They even charged $2.58 for per coffee capsules if using the coffee machine, and the price was not invisible in mini bar. facilities is poor.
Review 29:great location.
Review 30:Poorly set up for computers needs free internet for the price strange bathroom design. no place to charge cell phone at night. Couch very uncomefortable.
Review 31:Sadly no lakeview room available, at rain the steps in the courtyard the water splashes up when stepping on them. No relaxation area in the sauna.
Review 32:Wonderful room in the courtyard, nice kitchen, good stuff in the room. Friendly staff and close to the lake.
Review 33:it was noisy being by the road. dirty balcony too - clearly used for smoking and it wasn't pleasant to sit there.
Review 34:2 beds and 2 bathrooms. spacious
Review 35:We were looking at holding a conference here and trialled it first. We aren't now due to the same reasons I would stay somewhere else on a personal trip. Offers cable but no kids channels or movie channels. Unless you pay extra, however advertises it comes with satelite tv If you want Wifi you have to pay $25 for 24 hours, when you get it for free at the supermarket when you buy gum. Therefore for the money you pay would expect this to be included. This just left a bitter taste especially when we had paid for a two bedroom suite
Review 36:Great location and good rooms
Review 37:I had ordered a cheeseboard which I was slightly disappointed with, also I asked that a bottle of Mumm champagne be in the room for when we arrived, which it was, but there were no champagne flutes, otherwise fine.
Review 38:The apartment wasn't very clean dirty dusty ceiling from heater , heater in bathroom dirty no towel rail in bathroom or hooks on doors to hang wet towels everything needs a tidy up walls, carpet, bathroom fixtures, only 1 couch for 4 people
Review 39:The location was good
Review 40:Internet not included & its out source to a company with charge very high fee
Review 41:Excellent location & staff was very helpful & provide good service
Review 42:First room dark and dingy, disability room Complained and staff indifferent Spoke to manager next day and was upgraded to a lovely room so be sure of what you book
Review 43:View of lake from second room and the managers generosity in giving us an upgrade
Review 44:Very noisy, could hear next unit. Garbage truck pick up every morning at 6.30am, reversed uphill with truck beeping! Bathroom very small, no where to put my own toiletries. Smallest baloncy ever seen. No where to eat.
Review 45:Although I prefer continental breakfast, the upgrading of breakfast to cooked seemed to confuse other guests and it seemed like no one was going for the cooked breakfast. Having someone explaining this every time was also tiresome to hear. The apartment looked a bit tired.
Review 46:Continental breakfast selection was good. Large apartment was great for the family. Free parking.
Review 47:our heater was obviously broken but rather than fix it they have put a portable oil heater in lounge, which on cold Queenstown mornings its not very warm.
Review 48:it was our anniversary and they set up our room with rose petals. such a lovely thought. very friendly helpful staff. superb location
Review 49:We were surprised to find the staff smoking area was outside our (non smoking) room. This meant we didnt open the window or want to even open our blinds while we were in our room during our 5 day stay. Even though we booked the cheapest room they had this surprised us. A view of a concrete wall wasn't unexpected but staff smoking and talking outside our room meant we didnt find it a very relaxing place which wasn't what we expected.
Review 50:Very friendly staff and a location that's nice & close to town.
Review 51:No free wifi, ridiculous in 2015. Only 2 free pods for the coffee machine in the room, at a hotel of this standard and room rate this seemed very stingy. Tiny area for tea & coffee and the only sink for washing dishes is right next to the toilet - yuck! Empty beer bottles full of cigarette butts left on balcony by previous guest. Room was overheated and no way to adjust this, both of us woke up feeling hot and dehydrated during the night.
Review 52:Location was great with only a short stroll into the centre of town. Comfortable bed and pillows.
Review 53:The bed was due for a change! Not comfortable at all. The kitchen had tiddly pots and av utensils.
Review 54:Best ever room with view over the lake to the mountains. Lovely, proper gas fire and full sized couch.
Review 55:None of the rooms were equipped with microwaves, and if you need anything heated you will have to request the reception. This is a bit uncomfortable, especially if you have little kids who have the habit of having warm milk at night or early morning.
Review 56:The location is very good, close to the downtown.Very friendly and helpful staff at the reception.
Review 57:Pillows were too fat. The iron got the better of us and the bedrooms were a bit stuffy.
Review 58:Awesome view and loved the big couch and underfloof heating. Nice toiletries.
Review 59:Standard King rooms with view very disappointing, rooms need attention as not that clean and require painting. Breakfast basic and no windows in restaurant. Don't pay for breakfast through booking.com as cheaper at hotel if you decide to stay.
Review 60:Location, close walking distance to town
Review 61:There are two types of rooms. One being closer to the street with a big balcony, another one sitting at the back of the front one with only a narrow balcony hardly able to see the scene. The front ones may be perfect, but not the case for the back ones.
Review 62:The apartment was very small, it wasn't fresh, you had to pay for wifi, I'm coming back to Queenstown but not going back there again. You also had to pay for TV channels. Value for money just wasn't there. We are from Oz and Peppers has a good name we we are from at the hunter Valley but this Peppers was very disappointing. Also due to the fact we were on our honeymoon
Review 63:The bed was comfortable.
Review 64:Robes were supposed to be provided and although we asked for them they were not provided. The room was rather small but adequate.
Review 65:Staff were lovely, friendly and helpful.
Review 66:We didn't like that the bathroom was a room off the sitting room. The couch was not comfortable sitting, no television in the bedroom. Probably would of liked more of a view a room with the option to sit out on the deck and take in the view. Next time perhaps.
Review 67:Peppers was very close to town, a 5-10 minute walk. The bed was comfortable. We would stay there again in a different room.
Review 68:I could clearly hear everything that was being said in the next room and when it rained the water from the guttering fell directly onto another part of the roof, loudly.
Review 69:Great location, clean room. loved the heated floor in the bathroom.
Review 70:Felt a bit of a discomfort when checking out and having an argument with the management, they had no any respect for their customers so that was not very pleasant. They follow their protocol and there was no any space for discussion.
Review 71:Great location, superior comfort accommodation, great view.
Review 72:The second bedroom was tiiiiiny and there was no space to put things in the bathrooms. And the fire place didn't work
Review 73:Good service, friendly staff
Review 74:Our room had a door that connected to a larger appartment room with other guests and was easy to hear what was happening in the other room via the door. However it wasn't an issue as they where not loud late at night or early in the morning.
Review 75:Bathroom had a heated floor which was very nice on the toes. Staff where very helpful and friendly.
Review 76:Some of the front desk staff were a bit off - not friendly or helpful (however others were good so it wasn't universal!). My room was VERY hot - but I shouldn't complain about that! Bed not overly comfy but that's a minor thing given everything else was great.
Review 77:Location and views - stunning! Big rooms, well equipped. Heated bathroom floor a nice touch.
Review 78:Parking is a real issue. We had a 4 x4 vehicle with ski racks and a roof box. We were unable to enter the car park, and their was no short term parking even outside the reception area to help with check in.Only exceptional duty manager ( Pip ) averted a really difficult situation.
Review 79:(1) Electric blanket did not work, had to ask more then once to get it replaced. (2) Toilet was leaking, kept refilling, waking us up. (3) hotel evacuated for fire alarm at 615am, however several safety issues with hotel evacuation procedure, which need immediate attention. (4) one of the lifts not working
Review 80:warm room (except bed) nice and clean and very good location, friendly staff
Review 81:It was odd you had to close the bathroom door when showering - perhaps the installation of exhaust fans would fix this problem? Perhaps a bit more crockery would be useful too. These are only minor suggestions - we really had nothing to complain about.
Review 82:We loved the size of the apartment and the large kitchen was an unexpected surprise. But the most appealing feature was undoubtedly the amazing view. We didn't want to leave our room! Great location too, very quiet.
Review 83:On arrival, the room we were allocated had been very recently painted and was very smelly, totally unsuitable for guests so we requested a change. I was surprised they thought they could put guests in there? In the room next door were a couple of young children who were very noisy.
Review 84:Stunning location and very handy to town. Loved the view from our room and the staff were helpful. Also liked the standard later check out time of 11am.
Review 85:Spa was underwhelming, poor view, from our perspective didn't measure up "value for money" wise, could hear neighbours through walls too easily.
Review 86:Tidy room, friendly staff, great shower and bed.
Review 87:Our room was booked in advance & I requested 1 x king bed & 2 singles, when shown to our room the beds were not arranged as requested. To get room cleaned & towels topped up I had to ask instead of it being standard service each day, we stayed 4 nights .When checking room on departure there was a pizza box & drink bottle under the bed from previous guests.A little noisy from room above & being next to a foyer entry, we had a garden view room 608.
Review 88:Friendly service , good value as breakfast included in our deal & only $ 5-10 to upgrade to a cooked. Short walk to town & activities, safe under cover parking.
Review 89:I booked an apartment at a rate that included a full breakfast, this the resort confirmed with booking.com on check in at my request. However all 3 days when we went for breakfast we were told that our room only included a continental breekfast. I again confirmed the breakfast with reception who again confirmed the full breakfasts. On the 3rd day there was no hot food prepared. I eventually went to knock on the kitchen door to ask what time the hot food would be ready as there was nobody around to assist us with the breakfast we were advised again that our room only included a continental breakfast & hot food was served only on demand. Surely there must be some communication between the reception & breakfast staff? We found this extremely embarrassing to have to keep asking for what we had booked & paid for.
Review 90:I loved the location of the apartment, the apartment itself was very lovely with beautiful views of the lake and mountains
Review 91:Room was cold on arrival. We had to ask for 3 single heathers to heat the room. The fire place was out of order an we could not connect to the internet
Review 92:Frèe parking
Review 93:when I was checking in another couple arrived and I felt the person at reception quickly finished with me and didn't explain some things, the apartment was lovely however in need of a spring clean, walls had a lot of marks on them and things seemed like they needed to be freshened up, the tap in the showers made noises after turning off, the two beds put together to make a double was very uncomfortable as they caused roll together
Review 94:lovely and warm, great views, cleaning staff were wonderful, friendly and helpful
Review 95:We were outside and because we had the fire on we closed the door..as you do.....and then we discovered there was no handle on the outside to open it and get back in. We managed it because there was a spoon out there and we prised it open but without that or a phone it could have been disastrous.
Review 96:Faultless except......
Review 97:Very expensive WiFi ($25 for 24hrs!!). Considering the price of the apartments and the fact that even most basic hotels now have free WiFi (come on, we live in a connected age), Peppers should provide complimentary WiFi.
Review 98:Loved our 2 bedroom apartment at Peppers Beacon in Queenstown. Generous space, fantastic view and extremely comfortable! To make things even better, we got engaged at the top of a snowy Cecil Peak mountain while we were there, and had a great view of the mountain from our apartment for the rest of our stay :-)
Review 99:reception area is not impressive - ruins the start of your experience - should be upmarket - and stairs up are not great for older people and bags...
Review 100:loved the room with view and fireplace - it was so wonderful to stay there
Review 101:No free wi-fi. We paid $25 for 24 hour access to wi-fi but it petered out after a few hours. Hotel staff were helpful in trying to re-establish the link with the service provider and gave us a credit for another 24 hour connection.
Review 102:Location and contemporary styled and well appointed. Staff were very helpful. Great views over the lake. Doubled glazed windows.
Review 103:Sound Proof of the room are not too great as I can hear what they talking about in the next room
Review 104:Hotel stuffs are very friendly and helpful especially Tracy Great location that very close to town centre - only few minutes walk Great view - Great Lake View right in front of the hotel
Review 105:Cleaning was not good - for six day stay, no vacuuming or cleaning of bathroom facilities. Best to choose a high floor as view was limited for 'Lakefront view' for 7th floor apt
Review 106:Apartment was comfortable and had every amenity necessary for easy stay
Review 107:We had two rooms a standard king and a studio. The studio was very good, but the standard king in terms of location and amenity was not. What is surprising is they were both the same price.
Review 108:The location was superb and the staff restaurant tips were excellent.
Review 109:The staff was very nice but had no follow up on questions and did not seem very knowledgeable about the area. The internet service was very poor. There was food from previous guest left in the cupboards and the cleaners did not vacuum very well.
Review 110:It was nice to sit by the fire.
Review 111:We booked the Garden suite with 2 bedrooms. The bedrooms don't have windows which I found disappointing. When I tried to order a bottle of wine just before 10 pm it was already too late to have it delivered to my room.
Review 112:Quiet, good location
Review 113:On our second visit for one night the room that we were given had a side window through which the security lights from the neighbouring hotel shone through despite the blind being drawn. This kept my wife awake.
Review 114:This lakeside hotel was a short walk into the Queenstown wharf area. The room was large and comfortable with good amenities. Staff were pleasant and helpful
Review 115:Rooms looked tired ...room 205 carpet frayed badly .... Mould in shower . Also wifi is a rip off ....expect it free nowadays .... Backpackers two doors down had free wifi and even the local pub .. Very poor and overpriced when purchased .... Wouldn't recommend
Review 116:coffee with breakfast was awful.
Review 117:amazing views over lake wakatipu and the remarkarbles, balcony with outdoor furniture, gas fireplace, kitchen facilities, two good sized bathrooms, in fact the entire apartment was large in scale, plenty of space for my husband and I and my parents, short walk to shops, bars and cafes. we would stay there again in a heartbeat!
Review 118:The staff member who checked us in was excellent we had a few issues with TV not working etc, they fixed it straight away. I realised when I got to our room I must of booked the wrong room. And once again the staff member upgraded our room for us ASAP which we really appreciated. Thank you again for a wonderful stay.
Review 119:The beds were very soft, pillows large and hard and room was very small. It felt like those on a tighter budget (although $200 per night is not that tight) were placed in less desirable rooms. Room description was a little stretched, room was described as having mountain and lake views. This was actually a peep through a tiny window over a wall by the fire escape. Most of the view was a concrete wall. Also think you should get complimentry coffee for each night your in the room, not just the first night. After all you have paid for each night!!! However if you want a great location and potential for a great view it's a good hotel.
Review 120:The location was great.
Review 121:Don't look under the furniture as you never know what you will find.
Review 122:Brilliant location overlooking the lake and within walking distance to the city centre. Queenstown is a hive of activity and there are so many things to do and see. The apartments are well appointed and it is worthwhile paying extra for the lake view.
Review 123:A bit of a walk into the town.
Review 124:Well appointed apartment with spectacular view. Great balcony. Gas fireplace. Very good kitchen & cooking facilities. Washing machine & iron too.
Review 125:We booked a twin room with a lake view - we had a double bed with a partial view - when we complained they put us in a twin room with no view - beds are narrow and not that comfortable - they charge $40 for 3 days Internet - a real rort - and they add 2% when you use a credit card - the TV is small and channels few - I had to leave notes to get the room vacuumed. We had no view - so disappointing as I booked months before and specifically asked for that I think they keep their less desirable rooms for other booking systems than apex!
Review 126:Location is good- the included continental breakfast is good - the spa and gym is nice and the larger rooms with views in the front block look as if they would be nice
Review 127:The only complaint was the privacy from others. On the 10th floor youwould expect the neighbouring rooms would not be able to see right in orbe able a access your deck!
Review 128:We were in a very nice appartment with the best view of the lake.Very relaxing.
Review 129:Wifi should be free. We were told it was because of a third party provider but that's true for all wifi! If a BackPackers can do it so can this place.
Review 130:Great view of the lake and bath amenities.
Review 131:We arrived ex Sydney am ,No iron in room , asked for delivery urgently as get to important function within 45 mins. Took over 30 mins to arrive even after a staff visited after 10 mins to say previous people had an iron and it must be there .......rubbish , it felt as if she doubted our honesty.
Review 132:Facilities as we expected as have used chain in Aust and Nz
Review 133:The room had no air conditioning and in mid -summer with the balcony door closed it was rather uncomfortable. The price for WiFi connection in this day and age is unreasonable when nearby Backpackers lodge offered it free of charge. Soundproofing of this room 209 was not good and noise from adjacent room and lift was intrusive. We slept with earplugs in each night.
Review 134:The location on the lake and close to the heart of Queenstown was great. The staff were excellent in all respects. The included continental breakfast was very good in quality and variety. However we were quite disappointed with the Standard King room - it was airless, and had only extremely little ventilation especially when the balcony door was closed, which it had to be at night for security. We were there three nights but were not able to be given an alternative room.
Review 135:No free wifi in room, partial lake view from level 7 due to front building, no a/con, bathroom disappointing, no dvd player and minimal Sky channels. Expect better for a 5 star
Review 136:Size of room
Review 137:Simply thought full buffet breakfast was included. But had to pay extra 10$. Featuring no bathtub.
Review 138:Every staff was very kind. Nice location facing Lake Wakatipu.Looking up Southern Cross from the balcony Large & clean rooms. Free parking.
