Reviews for Snowhaven
Review 1:No laundry facilities near the hotel during January.
Review 2:Comfortable studio, just enough space for two people. Quiet and close to the nature and services of Ohakune.
Review 3:The rooms would be great in the winter but were a bit hot in the peak of summer. A fan would have been good to save sleeping with windows and doors open.
Review 4:Nice modern rooms just moments from the restaurants. A stunning mountain view made the stay extra special.
Review 5:Only down side is the distance from the centre of town for a variety of restaurants or cafes. Not a major as only 2 km out of town centre so easily walkable in fine weather.E
Review 6:Awesome facilities, sleeps up to 8 in comfort and well set up for a stay with a family. Close to walks and cycle tracks and a cafe and restaurant for treats out.
Review 7:Only one bedside table. Not very practical roller blind - it was not possible to put it on half way, only completely up or down. When up anyone can see directly to the room from outside, when down the room was totally dark.
Review 8:Very nice and comfortable room. Well equipped. Very friendly staff. Great WIFI.
Review 9:*Street noise (front room) - trucks passing at night and early morning - but has to be balanced with exceptional view! *A bench in the bathroom would be helpful
Review 10:*Well appointed room *Extremely clean *Very comfortable bed *Good sized ensuite bathroom *Shower hot enough and sufficient pressure *Outstanding view of the mountain
Review 11:Reception not there when we arrived but arrived 15mins later when I called the woman. The room only had one window in the bedroom and then only daylight was from a skylight! There was absolutely no view. The room was really dusty so obviously hadn't been used recently. I get that it's a ski resort really and we were there in spring but still..Also the sink flooded water underneath when we pulled the plug. I got wet feet.
Review 12:Comfy big bed. Location as close to town.
Review 13:Sad that the skiing season is over! But we will definitely come back on a weekend or two in the summer.
Review 14:We stayed in the Bed & Breakfast accommodation, which is separate from the Snowhaven Motel, and it exceeded our expectations. The house is all modern and new. It was such a pleasure stay that we went back 4 weekend in a row!
Review 15:Nothing.
Review 16:The location was great - right in the middle of town close to restaurants and ski shops. The room had everything I needed to prepare a meal, which was nice. Everything was very comfortable. I would stay again.
Review 17:Terrible sleep due to the door not sealing well - even though it was double glazed. The traffic noise disturbed our sleep a lot. Could also hear through from the unit next door.
Review 18:Central location, heater was on and room was warmed up when we arrived late in the evening. good shower and had everything we needed.
Review 19:It was all good.
Review 20:We stayed in a three bedroom townhouse and it was very comfortable and well laid out. We had everything we needed and it was nice and warm and close to the mountain.
Review 21:Occasional noise traffic is a problem especially early morning and if you are in a front unit. Earplugs fixed the problem.
Review 22:Convenient to central Ohakune. Very good modern bathroom.
Review 23:Really great service from the head female staff? - I called confirming booking, we were late arriving but she gave us great directions & didn't mind! Facilities were great, bathroom looks recently refurbished. Room was comfortable and tidy. Would definitely stay again!
Review 24:The problem with a place that sleeps 8 people we assumed would have enough hot water for everyone, but it ran out pretty fast so 3 of us had very cold showers. Which is not the greatest after spending the day up the mountain. Also there was no wifi in the villas.
Review 25:This place is amazing! We had 8 mates together and the bedrooms fitted everyone. Great living spaces.
Review 26:Property manager Lynn was great and was responsive to guests requests (high chair for a child and early check in) and the accommodation was both modern and clean. This place is tidy and well suited to a family or groups of people wanting to go to the snow.
Review 27:The studio apartments section is really just a basic motel, with a tired exterior. The battery for DVD remote was flat and the right direction to point the TV remote in was difficult to find. Perhaps instructions for the manual controls could be provided. An ipod dock/connection would have been nice, as would have been a snow report at the office.
Review 28:Walls were a bit thin and no door between main living area and rest of the apartment meant the noise carried, plus the bunks were quite creaky.
Review 29:Friendly woman (owner?) on reception, warm, welcoming apartment with lovely decor. Great to have such a nice large place to ourselves.
Review 30:Broken glass around outdoor paved area. Lack of outdoor seating.
Review 31:Very warm and cosy. Our townhouse was about as close to the Turoa ski field as you can get.
Review 32:Great value for money. Excellent self catering facilities. We had 2 budget studio units and the only thing budget about them was the price. Modern, comfortable, great heating.
Review 33:I think the wording "private deck" was a bit of a play on words in the advertising ;)
Review 34:Warm and comfortable place. Friendly and helpfull staff.good location and close to town. Awsome drying room for your snow gear.
Review 35:The dry room for snow gear was not good. We had to use a hairdryer to dry our grear, not even the gloves dried. Gear was in the room from 5pm to 8am.
Review 36:The room was nice and warm. Enough space for 2 people. Very tidy. Everything looked new and neat.
Review 37:Excellent stay. Can't fault it. Facilities were brilliant and Lynn was so helpful. Gave us DVD's when the weather was not kind to us to get skiing.
Review 38:It was confusing finding the place. Having a customised map with clear directions of how to get to the accommodation from the office would have been helpful.
Review 39:Very spacious, as there was a group of 5 adults and 3 kid. Everything we needed was supplied at the villa.
Review 40:Office was locked when we arrived at 2.30pm, after stating on booking that we would be arriving between 2-3pm. Hand-written sign on front door said 'back at 3:45'. Called the phone number at the bottom of the note and the woman said she was at an 'appointment' in another town and hadnt seen any checkin time noted. (Website states checkin from 2pm regardless.) No apology...was made to feel as though we were inconveniencing her. Two small children busting to get out of the car after a long journey, in the rain, having to wait. Woman finally arrives at 3.30pm and says that yes, I did leave a checkin time on my booking. Still no apology or attempt to rectify, instead tried to downplay the situation and make out that it was no big deal. Not ok. Really killed our excitement for the holiday we were on. Spoke to the office after arriving at our 3 bedroom townhouse due to inadequate heating. No central heating. Electric heater in Lounge/dining inadequate for space, this area remained chilly our entire stay. One oil heater in a bedroom. Office brought over a heater from the next door apartment that was vacant for the main bedroom. Luckily third bedroom wasn't needed...no heating whatsoever. Once again, office was locked and empty at 10am when we arrived to check out. Once again, had to call to have the woman answer and say she'd be there in 2 minutes. Left waiting again. I understand poor customer service happens sometimes...but apologise and try to make amends. Nice accommodation if it was better heated but due to the atrocious customer service, we wouldn't stay here again and certainly would not recommend.
Review 41:Modern, well-sized townhouse.
Review 42:Reception was not manned (5pm) and we had to phone and wait for someone to arrive. The unit was very cold on arrival but warmed up OK with basic electric oil heater. Bathroom heater was very noisy and was on a time switch which gave about three minutes of minimal heat. Beds for 3 but only table and chairs for two and nowhere comfortable to sit.
Review 43:The unit was very clean and modern with comfortable beds but no frills. Bathroom facilities are good but cooking facilities and equipment only basic. The location is very central just a couple of minutes to restaurants and shops.
Review 44:The showers pressure was terrible, problem with hot water! All in all nothing to comment!
Review 45:This accommodation was tranquil, relaxing and cosy! At the back of the accommodation was a tranquil, relaxing and peaceful little river and then a beautiful glacier in front of the building! The room was clean, quiet and cosy for a couple!
Review 46:We booked our room thinking it was on the main street of Ohakune, it turned out to be one the homestay rooms which was not what we were really after.
Review 47:Our host was lovely, really welcoming and a pleasure to meet. The room was very comfortable.
Review 48:Wonderfull and lovely Self-Contained Studio. Parking spot directly at the rooms. Very clean and recent. Bus Shuttle service to the alpine crossing was organized by Lynn straightfowardly. Self-laundromat 1 min. away.
Review 49:Poor lighting, could do with a bedside table for each person.
Review 50:Good shower, nice decor, great location - handy to main restaurant & restaurants. Good value for money. Newly built.
Review 51:Trucks pass close to room all night. Need to urgently soundproof front road rooms. 10 trucks an hour or more makes sleep impossible.
Review 52:Nice location and room clean and lovely.
Review 53:The only thing we didn't like was the tiny kitchen area. It was barely big enough to make a meal in.
Review 54:The woman who checked us in gave us a free upgrade to a room at the back of building and away from the noise of traffic without us asking for one. Our beds were very comfortable
Review 55:A bit of road noise in a room at the front of the property, bed was a little hard or my liking.
Review 56:Close to town, helpful friendly staff, good Facilities.
Review 57:Convenient location - views of the mountain - still snow on it and we are well into summer. I thought perhaps a little high in price by about $20 for what was on offer - but I guess you are paying for the popularity of the destination.
Review 58:The quality of accomodation was very good, the sitting and other rooms were very comfortable and stylish. The hostess was very welcoming and charming. She went out of her way to make our stay pleasant and offer refreshments and an excellent breakfast.
Review 59:Could do with some form of cross ventilation ,a fan or air con.
Review 60:We had a back room with a private view to trees and the sound of a small alpine stream at the bottom of the lawn
Review 61:The traffic was a bit noisy at night, the bed was too hard for my liking, and there was no bedside reading lamp or place to set up luggage.
Review 62:Close to town centre, cooking facilities were excellent. Owner Lyn and cleaner were extremely helpful and informative on local activities.
Review 63:One thing I'd add would be a blind/net on the main window (as well as the curtain) as it looks right onto the bed.
Review 64:Snowhaven was easy to find and close to the town centre. The studio had everything we needed and was tidy and clean.
Review 65:It is best to call before arriving to be sure there is somebody at the reception.
Review 66:The hotel was in the center very close to shops. The staff was friendly and helped us book a transfer to the Tongario crossing track. The kitchen had everything we needed the bed was comfy. We had our parking space in front of the studio, everything was very clean. It was good value for the money
Review 67:Lynne was an amazing host, very friendly and inviting. The accommodation was A1, and the breakfast was delicious. I would recommend this place to anyone looking for a lovely place with great hospitality.
Review 68:In a lovely quiet location backing onto the national park this house did a superb job for our weekend away doing the Tongariro Crossing. Great facilities for self-catering, nice location, and not far from the Junction for eating/drinking out.
Review 69:Fantastic view from my room but because it was at the front of the building, I kept the blinds down most of the time for privacy. Extractor in bathroom quite noisy and there's a creak in one area of the bathroom floor. TV reception a bit blurry.
Review 70:Very accommodating with my changing plans. 2 mins to shops. Arrangements in place for my late arrival. Warm and comfortable. Free wifi voucher. Very thoughtful about guests' needs (a father and son booked the last remaining room, a queen, and when I was shifting my plans around, an opportunity to change them to a twin arose. I appreciated seeing this thoughtfulness about their comfort and it meant that I got a bigger bed too). I noticed that guests arriving during the day looked a little lost before seeing a sign to phone on arrival. To avoid the two minute wait (it really was that short), phone a couple of minutes ahead of your arrival in Ohakune.
Review 71:It was advertised as a chalet. But it's a three bed flat (in a block of flats), with no view and right beside a train line. It was neither near the snow nor the town facilities.
Review 72:That said it was comfortable and clean.
Review 73:Cooking utensils were terrible. 3km from shops
Review 74:Unit was warm and comfortable Very quiet Great ski storage Gorgeous outdoor fresco area Manager was very helpful
Review 75:Only negative was that the (very noisy) bathroom fan came on with the light. So we could hear the neighbors trips to the bathroom in the middle of the night
Review 76:Clean, tidy, well presented little unit. Perfect location. Very comfortable
Review 77:I thought there would have been a indoor spa. I would definitely return back every year if there was.
Review 78:The staff were very friendly and the bed was really comfortable. A really good feel in the rooms
Review 79:Just a small thing, but having the wifi network and password for arrival would be a good improvement.
Review 80:We stayed at the B&B part. Lynn, our host, was great. Friendly, informative, helpful, cooks a great breakfast. :) The house is absolutely beautiful too, and in a reasonably convenient location. Would strongly recommend this accommodation.
Review 81:From memory I don't think they had free Wifi. This wasn't a huge issue for us though.
Review 82:We stayed at the the B&B and it was just like a home away from home. Such a beautiful house with history, with every comfort you need. Breakfast was a real treat, much more than we expected. We wouldn't hesitate to stay again.
Review 83:Nothing
Review 84:Personal feel and attention to detail. Welcoming atmosphere. Breakfast (best I've had whilst traveling in New Zealand). Impeccable accommodation and hostess.
Review 85:No privacy unless you lower the Roman blind and darken the room. You need to install window film or sunscreen blinds. Poor lighting in the rooms and why only one bedside light and table. Very noisy extractor fan in bathroom and no option to leave off... means waking up anyone else sharing your room for night time bathroom visits
Review 86:Good location. Friendly staff.
Review 87:Only down side was the occupants of the next room being up at all hours and walking backwards and forwards in front of our window but that's no big deal!!
Review 88:Right from the get go, the customer service was excellent. We had arrived an hour earlier than expected but they welcomed us in and already had the room ready so checked us in early! Room was spotless, bed comfy and was on the main street so easy to find and access to the mountain road was right there.
Review 89:The Snowhaven was a really lovely place to stay. Very clean, tidy and very central to everywhere. The thing we loved the most was the wonder service and such lovely ladies that we dealt with. Very pleasant. We will be back again.
Review 90:Location is great, 2 min walk to restaurants, ski hire, supermarket etc. All rooms are really clean, and have all the amenities you need including gd kitchen facilities. Drying room for wet ski gear is excellent, completely locked up so you don't have to worry about your gear and its perfectly dry ready for another day up the mountain!
Review 91:I was disappointed as the room ( superior family apartment ) was very small indeed. The facilities were very basic - providing the bare minimum in my view.
Review 92:Great location and very clean
Review 93:We went to cook on the BBQ the first night to find it was not cleaned previously. There was a smell we couldn't figure out until day two then we discovered the garbage disposal had food down it that was not actually flushed. Also no wifi available in units as these are in a completely separate location to the actual main accommodation. Just a little disappointed for the price.
Review 94:Beds were comfortable and it was a peaceful location. Staff were friendly on arrival.
Review 95:Location
Review 96:Lynne was a great hostess! Would recommend this place to anyone.
Review 97:Excellent host and the meals were excellent. Lovely lodge with great facilities.
Review 98:missing some basics from the kitchen, like a chopping board and sharp knives.
Review 99:Great location, drying room for wet gear and bedrooms
Review 100:Close to town; friendly staff
Review 101:wOULD HAVE BEEN NICE TO HAVE A VIEW. Just 1 small window. Could hear the other guests well! really thin walls
Review 102:GOOD LOCATION
Review 103:Excellent location and presentation. Would happily stay again.
Review 104:Centrally located with beautiful views
Review 105:Too close to the main road. Can hear heavy vehicles at night.
Review 106:Tidy, comfortable & close to cbd.
Review 107:Location was excellent and in a quiet street. Owner very friendly and helpful and not in any hurry to move me on!
Review 108:Small room for the price
Review 109:Great place good price
Review 110:Private unit. Kitchenette available. Ski gear storage available
Review 111:Beds a bit small.
Review 112:very friendly
Review 113:Wonderful host in a very warm and cosy B&B. We shared the house with 4 other guests (2 parties) and we all got on very well.
Review 114:Wifi was poor. And limited channels for the tv. Could be cleanier there was a huge spiderweb in the bathroom.
Review 115:Lyn was great to deal with, would definitely go back!
Review 116:Great facilities for the price and very close to the amenities. I would definitely stay there again with friends and family.
Review 117:Quick and easy, room was open and ready upon our late arrival, Lyn was a pleasure to deal with, would definitely go back!
Review 118:Awesome location. Really friendly helpful service. Fantastic deal. Warm and very comfy bed.
Review 119:Clean, all amenities in perfect condition
Review 120:It was very convenient to getting to the mountain & into town.. Had everything we needed. Nice & clean & warm!
