Reviews for Millennium Hotel Queenstown
Review 1:The staff was very friendly and accommodating. They were always pleasant and helped us with booking activities and transportation. We will definitely come again!
Review 2:I expected the room to look like the pictures shown but im guessing this is due to my last minute booking
Review 3:enjoyed the layout , staff were nice and very clean rooms and bathroom
Review 4:Room service..... basic menu items not available, tray put outside room to be cleared..... still there 7hrs later, paying extra for parking on an already overpriced Hotel, no fresh towels delivered when stated they would be in the compendium! a tad disappointing!
Review 5:The bed was excellent!
Review 6:Very friendly check-in staff - arrived early and they did eveything they could to get us into our rooms quickly. Very comfortable beds and nice gardens in the courtyard.
Review 7:The wifi wasn't free in our room. Only 30mins in lobby. We couldn't access the pool/spa as it was locked from the inside. Added on extra costs that in many other cheaper hotels/hostels were included.
Review 8:Very comfortable bed and room. Great location. Just far enough out of the centre of town to be quiet.
Review 9:The restaurant was a typical hotel restaurant with expensive fussy evening food. There must be a demand as so many of the large hotels do this. I would love to be surprised and find a great brasserie in a place like this. We didn't eat breakfast here as there was so much choice in Queenstown.
Review 10:A perfect place to end a gruelling 5 day hike. The staff and management team were so lovely and professional and the hotel had everything we could need. It is not brand new but it feels like a solid, good high quality hotel. Great bed, great towels! The windows were openable. The bathroom had a bath - much needed after the walk. Most importantly the hotel had a fab spa bath that you can book for sole use for an hour. We had booked into another place that had none of this and had left despite having prepaid as we wanted to recover in a decent hotel. Never have we been so grateful for a reliable service!
Review 11:1.Staff unfriendly with few exceptions 2. 15 mts walk to the centre. Coming back is an issue for older people because of steep climb. 3. Un co operative staff overall. 4. Feel they are racial ! ( I am from india) 5. There are many similar places in town and I will look for another in the next visit
Review 12:Good clean and comforatble hotel. Bus stop opposite to hotel
Review 13:When we checked out we found the girl on the desk quite rude and really didn't care about customer service. She claimed we had taken a drink from the mini bar which we hadn't and then tried to make us feel bad for raising it and be grudgingly took of the extra $3.50 Other than this all the staff with out exception where great (we checked out between 8:00 - 8:30 am on the 24th December)
Review 14:All of the staff were great except one member
Review 15:As a 4 start and half hotel, toothpaste and slippers should be provided.
Review 16:Hourly shuttle bus to town center is convenient to the old tourists. Shuttle bus driver in the afternoon is extremely hospitable, we all like him!
Review 17:Had two single beds pushed together although it was comfortable didn't like having a gap in the middle of bed
Review 18:Room nice and clean. Good food and room service
Review 19:I've eaten a lot of hotel breakfasts, but the buffet breakfast here was certainly the poorest I've ever had the misfortune to experience. It was clear the kitchen has just one objective: save costs. Really, an absolute disgrace, and let down an otherwise good stay...
Review 20:Friendly staff, clean hotel, good location 3-4 minutes walk from town centre. Room has not been refurbished for some time, but perfectly acceptable.
Review 21:Nice clean rooms for a reasonable price. Great shuttle bus service and nice driver named Chris was very friendly and offered great tips for places to eat in Queenstown.
Review 22:Great location just a short walk to the city centre! Great spacious rooms, very comfortable bed. Staff were great, pleasant and ready to help. Loved the coin operated laundry on the 1st floor as we have been travelling for a while. Bar has a great veggie burger, great breakfast, huge selection and very tasty!!
Review 23:The food was very expensive for very poor food really not happy with that. Also the swipe in room cards we had to go to reception 4 times to get re activated as they did not work on the room door. That was very poor as well
Review 24:I liked the location and the suite
Review 25:Room was of a larger size than many others we have stayed in, very clean and bed very comfortable. Hotel was a 10min walk to town but would recommend if you go down 1 street below there is a lovely walk thru park to waterfront.
Review 26:I had a quiet, comfortable room facing the garden. Not sure how quiet rooms are facing the street. Staff were friendly and helpful. I was impressed with the simple, tasteful decor, and the cleanliness and condition of the rooms.
Review 27:Bathroom was a little small, but fine and clean. We were next to the lift, so you might like to ask for a room away from the lift and at the back, not on the road side. A shame the treadmill in the gym was out of order
Review 28:Room was spacious, bed comfortable. We got a special deal and were very happy with the cost. The hotel has a lovely garden at the back, which was the view from our room
Review 29:The location is on a busy bend on the main road into the town. If you are a light sleeper you will be best asking for a room away from the front of the hotel. Up side is the front rooms have a great view of the mountains and partial view of the lake.
Review 30:The room was more spacious than similar quoted options in NZ. The king bed was of superior quality and responsible for some late sleep ins. Location is an easy walk into town at anytime day or night. The central garden area was a great location for a quiet wind down after a busy day. Recommend requesting a room that opens onto the central courtyard garden. Staff were extremely obliging.
Review 31:The staff were not friendly to us during our stay. We almost felt discriminated against because we were younger - it was as if they thought we couldn't afford the stay, so didn't need to give us the same service as others. Not impressed. Most likely will not stay there agin.
Review 32:The location was great - not right in the middle of town but only a short walk away. Rooms were nice, tidy and modern.
Review 33:Bathroom a little small and climbing over the bath to have a shower was awkward
Review 34:Staff service and breakfast all excellent Rooms good size and comfortable
Review 35:I booked an extra room for my visiting son as a treat / surprise for him. Intending him to arrive, checkin & enjoy. He was unable to do this unless he paid first !!! He had to ring me & was left standing there embarrassed, I was furious at the time .
Review 36:Softest bed in any hotel anywhere:) yay
Review 37:When checking in and paying the staff person should have explained that the extra $50 charged was in case we used the mini-bar, As paying with a visa debit I can understand but should have been stated at the start. As it stands now after several attempts the amount over has still not been refunded as promised after 10 days. The hotel also charges $5 a day for wifi and $10 to park in their underground park. Other hotels we've stayed in, in Queenstown, do not do this. We got a good rate through Booking.com, but the hotel is not good value for money overall. We are locals who try and spend a night in a nice hotel each month, but we will not go back to the Millennium again.
Review 38:Nice room, comfy bed, handy to town
Review 39:no private courtyard/balcony. very high bond in comparison to other hotels for cash paying customers ($100 per night bond at millenium, $100 for entire stay at the rydges).
Review 40:location
Review 41:The location is great - it is walking distance to town which I loved. Mainly because it gives the freedom to come and go easily without spending on taxi fares
Review 42:Staff were fantastic and helped us out with some final arrangements of our externally booked activities. The town shuttle service was also really appreciated. Over 11 days we stayed in two different rooms at the same rate, the first was far nicer than the second with a bath and more space. Saying that, the second room was still nice.
Review 43:Although the room included all things noted on booking.com our room was not as it was shown in photo, not hotels fault, perhaps booking.coms? A little disappointed as lounge want as spacious and didn't have corner spa bath as featured in photo (wasn't listed so couldn't really dispute). No shower gel/body wash in rooms?? Towels covered in lots of black hairs
Review 44:Privacy, bed comfort, deck, friendly staff, location
Review 45:poor room service. room not serviced until I asked it to be hotel is very outdated. poor décor on check out - poor service and abrupt
Review 46:close proximity to town
Review 47:I stayed for 4 nights and on one day my room was not made up. When Itold reception I felt that they couldn't have cared less. Noapology, nothing. On my final morning, at 9.00am, housekeeping arrivedto make up my room. When I said I was checking out she looked verysurprised and left without commenting. I expect the staff to knowI'm leaving that day and not to go to my room until after I havechecked out.I had a problem with the internet login and rang the help desk number. I found them rude, dismissive and very unhelpful. We had a fire alarm go off and I was surprised that no staff came to the floor I was on (Level 1) to assist / check on guests. There was a couple with a baby on the same floor as me and the woman had a disability and she had difficulty walking. I stayed with them and helped the man carry the pushchair up the stairs. Without assistance I'm unsure how they would have exited the building. I had read the sign on the back of the door when I first got to my room, but when the alarm actually went off, I (and the other couple) was quite confused about how to exit. The exit signage on the floor was not clear. We went up a floor and then came to a barrier. The exit door was not immediately obvious and we were somewhat distressed when we finally got outside the building. By the time we got to the front of the building, where we presumed the assembly point was, what appeared to be all the staff were there and no-one checked on us. It was each man for himself. I expect more from the staff. I would have expected someone to be asking if we were OK.
Review 48:Overall a good experience. The room was good and the linen good. Ialways want the lighting to be better but poor overall lighting seems tobe standard in a hotel. It was warm and the outdoor area lovely. I wason Level 1 so had direct access to that area.I had a drink and dinner in the bar one evening and the service was good and the food portion extremely generous.
Review 49:The room was bit dirty. There were spiderwebs Etc. Did not think we should have payed $10.00 more for parking. The TV reception was very poor. The main restaurant menu was very Limited on Choice.
Review 50:The location was great. The staff was great and we would stay again.
Review 51:Room service breakfast was cold. Very bland tasting and expensive. The wifi is a joke. Most places in Queenstown offer free wifi. This hotel however, did not. They did offer a 50mb of data free per day. But only in their lobby. Next time , if we stay there I would love to see free wifi avail in the rooms.
Review 52:Location was excellent. Free shuttle service into and from town was a great feature.
Review 53:Biggest down fall was the extra charges for everything, we hired a car and parked on the streets as we had to pay an extra $10 a day for car park, and breakfast wasn't included which we werent aware of at time of booking and a extra cost of $56 for two, which personally I find very expensive for a buffet breakfast.
Review 54:Our stay was nice, the room was good.
Review 55:The need to pay for wifi was strange in this day and age.
Review 56:This is a very pleasant hotel near the centre of Queenstown. It was warm, modern and had very good room facilities.
Review 57:Breakfast spread didn't have much of a choice. Charging a fee for use of internet from house guests
Review 58:Hospitality of the staff. Being in a peaceful But easy to go down town. Beautiful cute from the room.
Review 59:Buffet breakfast was terrible, staff where not very helpful, shower pressure was terrible, paid WiFi was terrible it should be free like other hotels.
Review 60:The location was the only positive thing about this hotel.
Review 61:There was a delay when I went to check in. And I was given another room The decore is becoming tired I didn't eat in or use wifi so can't rate those things
Review 62:It was comfortable the staff were polite and helpful . The location to Queenstown a 5 minute walk .
Review 63:Charging for wifi is a disservice! The gym was poor.
Review 64:It was a mature quality well managed hotel with consistent facilities and staff, some of whom like Tom and Chris who were exceptional and Clive who was very patient. The free shuttle was a wonderful service, a winner!
Review 65:We asked for a quiet room on a high floor. the room we were given was dark & even though it was on the 5th floor, because of the contour of the land it was actually on the road with parking for 2 buses right outside the window!
Review 66:We complained about the room & were immediately moved to a much nicer room overlooking the courtyard. Room was spacious & immaculate. Staff were all courteous & efficient. Location great. Very short walk into town. Uphill coming back but hotel has free shuttle.
Review 67:Would like them to read the booking requests made on booking.com and act on them rather than say 'you have booked using a 3rd party' for the reason the beds were not correct.
Review 68:$$ of breakfast was a bit of a bummer. With 5 in our family we got Brekky from bakery in town and was MUCH cheaper. @28 per head it was going to add up over a week. Also $$ of wifi
Review 69:Closeness to town, quality of rooms, bed very comfortable, staff friendly.
Review 70:paid wifi... I believe the room rate could easily cover the wifi use....
Review 71:I like a very helpful receptionist, she made arrangement for me for an early check in... really helpful
Review 72:The customer service was awful. The front desk staff were rude, we got a 6:40am early morning automated wake up call when I called the front desk to let them know they said "there was nothing programmed in the system" and hung up on me. I wasn't rude at all when speaking to this man. When they asked me when we checked out if we enjoyed our stay I said no a listed off a number of reasons why and the girl at the front desk just smirked and laughed. This is just a brief summary of the issues we had with them. All in all they were atrocious and we will never be back. I would recommend staying somewhere else.
Review 73:The room was fine, good location
Review 74:suggestion maybe. Reception area, I am aware that around the mentioned area days or hours are long and sometimes customers expect to be able to clock once info is given and then directed or escorted to their room, at least have the courtesy to smile and be professional at all times no matter what. I have worked with in the industry and I have learnt to be professional at all times cause the client/s keep us in our jobs. Kia kaha/Stay strong.
Review 75:Everything............
Review 76:Some of the staff at reception were not only very unhelpful but also rude. They gave us incorrect information which almost resulted in us missing the bus that was was going to the ski field. This was then followed by quite a few cases of miscommunication that resulted in unpleasant surprises (such as having a large amount being held on our Visa cards without being informed about this upon check in). When we highlighted the issues, we were being treated as if we were to blame for the mistakes. Completely unacceptable from a customer service point of view! I was staying in one of their larger suites and arrived to a bathroom with almost no toilet paper left in it and no extra rolls within sight - not ideal!
Review 77:The room was nice and clean and it was an easy walk into town. Some of the staff were very helpful and great.
Review 78:The only thing i didnt like is the steep uphill/downhill walk to and from the hotel into Queenstown centre but thats to do with the location of the hotel
Review 79:Liked the hotel which provides a bus service into Queenstown centre on the hour. A public bus stop outside hotel.Thought the bed was too soft for me.
Review 80:No free wifi in room. $10 per night carpark charge. It was in the same building and no big deal.
Review 81:We loved everything. Check in explained everything we needed to know. The beds were extremely confortable. Breakfast deals were exellent. The shuttle bus was a real bonus. Staff were exceptional. Best accomodation we have had. Thankyou.
Review 82:Quite hard to get food in the middle of the night. The mini bar was not cheap
Review 83:Everything was very neat and tidy and the hotel room had plenty of space compared to other hotels for the price.
Review 84:Lost my booking and after 35mins of phone calls from reception they still don't find. The shower and hand basin has human hair other then mine or my partner. You pay for all. No free wifi, carparking or movies.
Review 85:The bed, the service. Location.
Review 86:Being unable to use our entertainment book that offered a 50% discountwas annoying as this is one of the reasons for using the hotel.
Review 87:The room (junior suite) was excellent - breakfast was very good value at$20 early special.
Review 88:You had to pay for wifi. This was the most expensive of our accommodation for the 16 days spent in New Zealand and not one other motel/hotel had paid for wifi. You need to get this sorted!
Review 89:Location, cost and friendly staff
Review 90:The air conditioning was a little bit funny, seemed to be a bit too hot or a bit too cold even though we only moved the dial a fraction.
Review 91:Walking distance to central Queenstown; secure covered in car parking; great price
Review 92:Staff at the front counter was partially snobby, Wifi is only 50MB/1 hour in the lobby (so not really free!), parking is $10 a day. Considering you pay quite a lot for a room, Wifi and parking should be free.
Review 93:Our room was beautiful, very spacious, great furnishings, nice bathroom. The hotel restaurant was nice, good food and friendly staff. The hotel is a 15 minute walk from the city center (very manageable), but the hotel also offers a shuttle service every hour.
Review 94:I would have thought that a 4 star hotel could give you more than 20 minutes free WiFi per day
Review 95:Our three night stay was most enjoyable. The staff were great and friendly. Super Breakfast and early start facilitated our trip to Milford Sound. Shuttle bus on the hour in and out of centre of town was also great, especially the return journey which was all uphill..
Review 96:The rooms are a bit tired. Not much seems to have been done since they were built. The shower head was damaged, the wooden surround in the bathroom had rot in it etc. Not deal breakers but just a bit old and uninspiring.
Review 97:As we were attending a wedding, I phoned the previous week to organise a 1pm check in. I was told I would have to ring just beforehand to see if one of the rooms was available. At 12.30pm I phoned the hotel from Frankton and was told neither room was ready. They would try to get one ready for our arrival. I also tried to book a carpark when I phoned earlier in the week, but was told they were all taken. On arrival at 1pm it was very difficult to find a park on the street. A staff member said we could park underneath! Clearly the parks weren't all booked, and knowing this earlier would have helped an already stressful situation, as neither room was ready. We were eventually taken to a room at 1.25, and had to leave for the wedding at 1.45. No time for hair and makeup. This is the first time I have ever asked for an early check in. This experience means I doubt I would consider staying at the Millenium again.
Review 98:Lack of wi-fi - expensive to buy, 'free' wi-fi in Lobby difficult to access and didn't always work well; staff not helpful when it didn't work.
Review 99:Good value, pleasant hotel; walk uphill from town, but not a problem, we quite enjoyed the walk.
Review 100:Could do with a new clean paint job and maybe look at fixing up some of the old wood
Review 101:Awesome hotel staff all friendly! Loved the spa! Good sized rooms awesome beds!
Review 102:The Internet was poor,
Review 103:I liked the distance from the centre of Queenstown, however the hill you have to walk up is a killer to get back to the room. I like the general feel of the place quite n nice fresh air coming into the rooms from the mountains n lake .
Review 104:One of the receptionists was quite unfriendly and didn't make you feel very welcomed. The water pressure of the shower was weak and we would appreciate it if each room had some plates and cutlery available for guests to use when not eating out.
Review 105:The bed was comfortable and the room was clean. The facilities were great. The cleaners were very friendly and most of the receptionists provided excellent service.
Review 106:Was requested to pay a refundable $485 upon check in consisting $50 bond per night and 2 nights tarif given first night was already charged on my credit card when booked. This was very confusing. We were only advised on check out that we also need to pay credit card fees, therefore ended up paying 1.5% more than "guaranteed value" - price you see may vary!
Review 107:Comfy bed, hot spa pool and sauna, garden view
Review 108:It was one of those hotels that was good in the 90s and hasn't updated itself much. Eccentric floor layout meant it was a long walk from the car park to the room. They don't have easily accessible bedside power outlets, everything costs extra: parking, wifi etc...
Review 109:Very friendly staff. Comfortable bed and good, clean bathroom.
Review 110:Room service meal was pretty average this time. Overcooked steak and half cooked potato. I had the same meal a week beforehand and it was perfect. So maybe just an off night.
Review 111:Again great service upon arrival. Extremely comfy bed.
Review 112:The quoted Tarif for one night stay was $230, this unbeknown to us did not include GST, so actual bill came to $243. $290 was charged to our credit card on arrival. The hotel said this payment was released on check out. 10 days later the $290 was still showing as a debit on our account. The hotel blamed the bank for the slow release. However these funds were not available for use during our stay in NZ.
Review 113:Shower head swerved to the wall so had to hold shower head.
Review 114:Beautiful rooms and fantastic service. Jamie the duty manager is an absolute asset to your team!! Meals were beautiful also
Review 115:The fact that we had to pay for Wifi! In 2015!
Review 116:The shuttle service to town was very convenient and the driver very personable and helpful in his recommendations.
Review 117:Very comfortable room and bed. Breakfast $20 per day is good value. Pretty decent choice. Paid Wifi at $30 for three days (2.5 GB max) is ok (that said a lot of the motels we stayed at provide free wifi).
Review 118:Room 423 is next to the tour bus parking area and at 6:30 in the morning the drivers stand outside the room talking while the engine is running. The worst thing is the smell of diesel coming through the room, absolutely disgusting. There is no shelf space in the bathroom, the toilet seat does not stay up which is an issue for men so my husband tells me. Paid wifi is expensive as is having to pay for parking. The breakfast at $29pp is overpriced.
Review 119:Shuttle bus into town on the hour was a good service. Food in the restaurant for dinner was exceptional albeit a little pricy.
Review 120:One young male staff member in the restaurant didn't seem at all happy to be there. Paying for Wifi in these times is just over the top. $175 per night should include 24/7 WiFi coverage.
Review 121:Bed was comfortable. Most staff members were polite and most helpful.
Review 122:Hotel puting $50 charge on our bill when we arrived [but removing it when we left. Never had this done before and other Hotels just take imprint of card which covers any incidentals.
Review 123:Good bed--we were tired and slept well.
Review 124:Several recent reports suggest that FREE WI-FI is the most important facility a hotel can offer today......the Milennium charged. Safes in rooms were key operated by request of akey from reception. This is old hat and also unsecure as someone can hold a master key.
Review 125:Service from Staff, comfort and room facilities.
Review 126:Back late from a function we were attending with the hope of a sleep in with an arranged late check out as we had been under stress since the death of our son. We had planned this as a treat. Woken in early hours around 4am by fire siren and evacuated. eventually back to bed. Noisey neighbours preparing to leave kept us awake For almost an hour. 5am woken by bus making what seemed like a 32 point turn outside our window which was open. I was up watching at this point...a van parked behind the bus. Fumes coming in window. Exhausted back to bed and woken late at 1035 had to rush to check out in time. No cuppa or breakfast. Felt exhausted and disappointed. Room too.hot and couldntmake cooler....hence windows open. at check out no offer of explaination or apology for disrupted night. Upon asking was told a guest had been smoking in the corridoor. We had distinctly smelt strong cooking oil fumes when walking past dinning room..... I was critical of the procedure of reentering the building once all clear given. We heard no explaination nor were told it was safe to reenter we just followed the crowd. I brought this to the attention of the staff. I was heard and put on to the acting manager who didnt have much to say. i left feeling slightly agrieved. We had paid more for our room than I normally would for a Queenstown stay, we are locals, had a headache from the disrupted sleep and needed breakfast.or at least a cuppa. a complimentary breakfast in my opinion or a discount was the very least what I would expect under the circumstances.
Review 127:Comfy bed. Friendly staff on the whole. Room service was good.
Review 128:Bathroom quality disappointing compared to bed quality. Shower heads need replacing - very poor quality and not great pressure. Sink plug broken. Nice tiling and lighting
Review 129:Nice room . Very well presented. Beds amazingly comfortable . Best sleep in hotel for years! Staff very good. Restaurant very good - service great and good variety to choose from
Review 130:Booked three rooms together as a party, but wasnt told until checking in that one memeber of the party would be on a different floor, even though on the check in sheet the rooms were beside each other.
Review 131:Most staff went out of there way to make you feel comfortable
Review 132:Worst shower ever (after staying in hundreds of hotels) as pressure poor, temperature kept changing from cold to scalding back to cold and bottom of shower had a lot of mildew/mould. Attitude of check in staff terrible.. check out staff better but when complained about the shower all I got was an insincere 'sorry about that'. I would expect a discount to be offered!
Review 133:Reception weren't terribly friendly. Your room key automatically deactivates at 10am on the day of check out...We tried to call reception several times on the morning of check out to let them know we were going to be ten minutes late (no answer) and ended up getting locked in the carpark when our key was deactivated.
Review 134:Just off the main drag which was nice.
Review 135:Horrible bed, even worse service at recepción with very bad manners and they charge you for room wifi services (ridicules) At the reception was requested in 3 different opportunities to pay for fees which were already charged to me at booking time. Though they put my word in question and each time I had to have a 5 minutes dilution, no apologies were given.
