Reviews for The Waterfront Hotel

Review 1:As so often the pictures posted n BOOKING were misleading: we had no view, there was no balcony, and the welcome was certainly not one with champagne... Our room was steamy hot when we entered it: windows closed while fully exposed to the sun... Staff was crisp and short and formal: professional maybe but not friendly and accomodating.

Review 2:The parking lot

Review 3:Room did not have the advertised balcony, and the ocean view was pretty confined. Strong smell of cigarette smoke in corridor on arrival.

Review 4:It all worked - no hassles

Review 5:Parking a pain. Carpark was full up regularly

Review 6:Location Attractively presented, spacious comfortable rooms Excellent Wifi, Free access to offsite gym close by.

Review 7:Brilliant location by wind wand and coastal pathway, close to restaurants and G-B gallery, with restaurant and deck catching last of the sun. Also impressed by friendly, helpful staff and nice room, with thoughtful touches like bathrobes and phone charger.

Review 8:Very welcoming hotel. Staff were friendly (especially Tahlia on the front desk) and efficient. The room was well appointed and very, very clean. The hotel is across from the waterfront and the lovely walkway as well as being close to many restaurants, cafes and the shopping streets. A lovely view of Mt Taranaki and the sea can be seen from the room we had. Salt restaurant (on site) delivered a delicious meal and the staff were attentive but not intrusive

Review 9:Bookings.com seemed to be offering a deluxe room ad a high spec room.but actually at the waterfront the room I'd have liked is called superior . My request note was not granted either.

Review 10:Not a thing, did we find to dislike!

Review 11:Situated as it is on the sea front, in New Plymouth, this hotel, has views, that you truly want to wake up to. Aided by the Tui's mellifluous calls and the gentle hissing sighs of the waves breaking on New Plymouth's iconic, Coastal Walkway, you can re-awaken your senses, and tatste buds with their divine coffee and feast upon a cornucopia of local produce prepared on demand by the courteous and friendly young team staff members. We would recommend it anyone.

Review 12:Sadly I only really had a view of the shopping centre not the waterfront

Review 13:Location was great. Staff very friendly both at reception and the restaurant. Bed was very confortable

Review 14:The only down side on the stay was the last night when we were woken early in the morning to painters at our bedroom window taping it up to be painted. They were very noisy, and had music playing loud.

Review 15:The staff at both Salt (the restaurant) and Hotel were lovely and very accommodating. They made sure that our special day was celebrated in style and went all out for us.

Review 16:Location perfect, studio spacious and clean, and bed really comfortable. Every meal we had at the on-site restaurant "Salt" was lovely and ALL staff we had any contact with were particularly friendly, efficient and helpful. Would highly recommend.

Review 17:Reaturant wasnt value for money. Disapointing but the only bad taste was the price

Review 18:Friendly staff, great location, beautiful room and an easy check in/out.

Review 19:Coffee in the restaurant needs improving

Review 20:Location is perfect, walking distance to everything, parking is free and not an issue. Hotel was immaculate and beautiful, restaurant was very good. The waterfront is beautiful and the rooms and restaurant have really nice views of it.

Review 21:TV didn't work.

Review 22:Most of the Staff were very helpful and welcoming. Parking was very convenient. Room was well set out, clean and comfortable. We enjoyed being able to open the window fully on to the tiny deck and see the sea.

Review 23:Was expecting a bit more for the price. The second night we paid a little less for a room on the 3rd floor which stated a balcony. But you couldn't have sat out there. And the 3rd floor seemed to be the main floor for the cleaners as the store room was there and they spent all day using the 3rd floor to clean other rooms. The room itself was dated. And as for the breakfast.....don't ask!!

Review 24:Nice location, free parking, which was great as we had two cars. The room were clean but just standard!

Review 25:The Restaurant & Bar Balcony area and THE FOOD... WOW.....Absolutely incredibly delicious. Didn't eat anywhere else and why would we want too when the best in town is at the Waterfront. Creamy mushrooms for breakfast - Yum... and the Lamb for dinner Yum, yum, yum... definitely a winner and got my vote.. Hope you guys Win. All staff amazing and extremely polite and caring, really made my stay in New Plymouth one I will always remember.

Review 26:I understand that rhe hotel can't control traffic but they can control traffic noise. Double glazing? Being honest about the noise and dispensing ear plugs at reception? It was ridiculous and the client I saw later that day told me the Waterfront is notorious for noise issues. I wish you'd been honest. I had 5 meetings in 5 locations that day around New Plymouth. But I was a zombie! Also you can't derive an overall score from the very different measures you record. V dodgy data analysis- cleanliness and staff I gave10 out of 10 but comfort I gave 0. The 7.1 rating doesn't adequately represent this though

Review 27:All the things I liked were over shadowed by the traffic noise that started up at 4am. But I did think the food from Salt was extremely good.

Review 28:There was a party in the room across from us. Reception did talk to guests in the room but this did not stop the noise and then the guests proceeded to party in the hall until after midnight. For the cost of the room at $275 I was really disappointed that our 1 night away was ruined by other guests.

Review 29:Room was clean. Central location.

Review 30:There was nothing we didn't like.

Review 31:Resturant staff were amazing, so professional, very helpful, and very friendly. nothing was a problem to these wonderful people.

Review 32:On check in staff offered to upgrade us to a room with sea views at ctrs cost. They should state studio rooms don't have sea views.

Review 33:Large rooms. Excellent bar with deck and views over waterfront

Review 34:no facilities in the room to make toast or a simple breakfast. I had a continental breakfast which at $19.00 I think broke a new record for rip off. Not happy at all so someone take note!!!

Review 35:Location and amenities were very good. Clean tidy rooms. Comfortable bed

Review 36:I though the room was bland, no picture or touch of homliness, very sterile. The breakfast was all packaged produce. There was no homemade anything! Service also needs to be a bit more professional

Review 37:The location was handy. Nice big bed.

Review 38:While there were tea and coffee making facilities there was no microwave or toaster and made it difficult to get food over Easter weekend where the shops were closed. There was an ice skating rink opened next door for the school holidays and the music was loud and all day.

Review 39:Well appointed location across the road from the sea and with a great restaurant on the premises. Walking distance to the mall, shops and local restaurants.

Review 40:The free wifi was fast, but was unable to connect with iPhones or iPads/tablets.

Review 41:Staff was helpful with information and suggestions. And the view was great.

Review 42:Several problems in restaurant... suffer an allergy to capsicum and cucumber and despite telling waiters I still got them in my meals over two days. Disappointing.

Review 43:Location and style

Review 44:No complaints at all - enjoyed our stay.

Review 45:Beautiful location - easy access to coastal walkway and beach. Equally convenient to Devon Street. Stylish decor. Staff very approachable. Pleasant stay.

Review 46:Onsite parking can be difficult when hotel is full. Balcony is so small there is no room for a chair and barely room to stand.

Review 47:Clean spacious rooms with nice views of the waterfront. Short walk to shops and several good restaurants. Fine but expensive restaurant overlooking the seafront. Very helpful staff (I was served breakfast even though I was half an hour late).

Review 48:The bed was a bit uncomfortable, also the tv was quite hard to work in the bedroom. Couldn't just watch normal tv only sky movies

Review 49:We stayed at the waterfront on our wedding night. When we arrived we were greeted by staff with a lovely smile and felt so welcome. The room was huge! We also loved the amount of facilities the room provided (coffee machine etc.

Review 50:Nothing! No Negatives.

Review 51:Everything! Staff very friendly, courteous and helpful. Facilities and cleanliness excellent. Room very airy, bright and modern. Up-market restaurant, food superb. Location excellent - in the centre of town and very close to the Inter-City Bus Station.

Review 52:We asked for a room with a seaview. You could only sea the sea if you stood on one corner of the room which I felt was a little false advertising

Review 53:Very clean and the bed and pillows were the most comfortable I have had

Review 54:With bed was very firm - an option of soft topper pad on mattress would have certainly imprived our stay

Review 55:Restaurant was awesome and having to walk diwn the corridor to our room was great

Review 56:No proper balconies despite the great location The lifts aren't have air-conditioned and a bit slow The restaurant is slow in service- mainly due bad time management

Review 57:Th customer service- the staff were excellent and very very friendly and helpful, attentive and accommodating to our needs and requests. The room was spotless- and I am a germ-phobic who struggles to feel comfortable in hotels. The location and view from the room window were amazing just opposite the beach and in the city center. The food in the restaurant was stunning

Review 58:We brought our own breakfast as we were staying only a couple of days. There was no toaster or utensils, plates etc. Not everyone wants to eat breakfast at Salt

Review 59:The location was excellent and it was great to have the Salt restaurant there for a coffee out of hours. The rooms were well put together.

Review 60:Advertising that gives false views. Only top of the range penthouse rooms have direct view of sea. Other rooms are on the side of the building and only have peak view of the sea.

Review 61:The hotel is close to town as well as close to leisure activities. Rooms are spacious and comfortable.

Review 62:The room needed more lighting, and the restaurant was disappointing compared to a previous stay, particularly for the price of the meals.

Review 63:The room was lovely and spacious, and staff all excellent.

Review 64:Photos of the two penthouse suites online, claiming all rooms have sea views and balconies. Not true. Looking out on blank wall, slight oblique peep of sea, not all rooms have balconies and that is only about a foot wide.

Review 65:Got upgraded to one of only 2 penthouse suites which was stunning and had all that the advertising claimed.

Review 66:Hearing the plumbing from other units. Fairly noisy.

Review 67:The walkway right in front of the hotel. The view from the restaurant. Quality restaurants nearby.

Review 68:Had a lovely room on the top floor with great views. Very spacious. Will ask for this room again.Handy to lovely cafes and restaurants, all just out the door.

Review 69:Would have liked to stay longer

Review 70:Friendly personable relaxed staff. Travelled with elderly lady, made to feel at home.Nice outlook to sea and boardwalk Very convenient for conference and city amenities

Review 71:nothing, all was perfect

Review 72:Everything, great location, excellent service, attention to detail, great branches in hotel restaurant, modern beautiful rooms and nice views, close to amenities, free car park

Review 73:having trouble with this! probably the wild weather - blew and rained all the time we were there.

Review 74:location. walking and cycling track close to sea, galleries, shops etc. restaurant staff went out of their way to help us define our travelling route as well as seeing to our culinary needs!

Review 75:The bath was odd. A "spa" bath with only four jets on the sides. Not very well designed in terms of giving a decent massage. So if the spa is your deciding factor in staying here, think again. Stay for the location instead. We also didn't like that you had to pay for wifi. I would have thought in this day and age you would have free wifi in the room.

Review 76:We liked pretty much everything but felt it was a little over-priced if you were to book without a special. I chose a non-sea view room but was pleasantly surprised Room 202 had a view of the sun setting on the Tasman. It was perfect and made for a lovely late afternoon relaxing as the sun set. The king sized bed and pillows were very comfortable. Everything was clean. The restaurant was beautiful and the service excellent. The platters are great value for money. The gurnard in leeks scrumptious and the lamb divine. We didn't have dessert or breakfast at the hotel.

Review 77:Good size rooms. Very close to all amenities. Food and service in restaurant very good.

Review 78:well run, professional hotel in a perfect location and with helpful friendly staff

Review 79:Room 205 very noisy

Review 80:rooms were excellent, friendly service and oustanding restaurant

Review 81:every thing

Review 82:We tried to book Salt for dinner twice but it was full both nights.

Review 83:Great location. Use of City Fitness next door.

Review 84:Silly "happy hour" with a special drinks menu hidden behind the bar. Either have a happy hour or don't

Review 85:Clean, spacious and fantastic location

Review 86:Flexibility with allowing us to check in early. Awesome staff. Great rooms. Great location.

Review 87:none

Review 88:Friendly, helpful staff. The views from our room. The restaurant over looking the waterfront.

Review 89:Staff noisy outside my room in the morning

Review 90:Rooms spacious

Review 91:N.A

Review 92:Very helpfull team.smiles all round.made to feel welcome

Review 93:Great staff and clean, tidy, comfortable room. Meals is the restaurant were delicious.
