Reviews for Phangan Beach Resort
Review 1:I didn't like the no food policy. You are not allowed to buy food or drinks from outside and eat it at your room. The fine is 2000 Baht if you get caught. You actually have to sign for that when checking in.
Review 2:The Bungalows are very cozy and it is comfortable to enjoy some drinks or dinner at their restaurant. You can even have a nice breakfast right at the beach.
Review 3:The room was very basic, noisy and had no air conditioning. Sleeping in a bird invested sauna is basically not sleeping at all.
Review 4:The location was brilliant, great place to relax.
Review 5:Check-in took too long. We were the only ones standing there and it took more than 30 mins. Rooms are very average for the rate they were charging regardless of new year time of not. The restaurant was serving person by person. I waited almost an hour for my overpriced fried rice. Place has great potential but needs more staff, new managment and repair.
Review 6:The location is great. Close to both main areas of the island.
Review 7:No internet in the rooms. They have a lot of little rules that seem unnecessary. For example: no outside food allowed, 5% surcharge for credit cards. They can't make much extra money through these rules and they just make things a little bit more difficult for guests.
Review 8:Location is great, it's quiet enough, on a nice beach and it's really convenient to get to a lot of popular places. The beach and pool are quite nice.
Review 9:Perfect place to stay, most beautiful beach in this area :) friendly and helpful staff and you have all you need by your side. Enjoyed every minute in there.
Review 10:militant signs about not bringing food and drink into the resort. I understand you have a restaurant and a bar, but there are nicer ways to request guests co operation than threatening signs.
Review 11:Location, great food, happy + helpful staff who deserve praise, excelent manager (Jamie), general upkeep and cleanliness. A great holiday!
Review 12:There's room to enhance the bungalows by maintenance of few old poorly functioning power sockets, shower, toilets, and door locks.
Review 13:Perfect location. Friendly and helpful staff. Nice bungalows and nature around them. 3rd time in Phangan Beach resort and was happy to be there once again.
Review 14:Nothing except the fact that I didn't stay longer. Great place.
Review 15:Staff were all very helpful. The entire place was all kept immaculately clean, from the rooms to the beach and restaurant.
Review 16:The resort is very noisy (they play really loud electro music the whole day long) and very small (much smaller that it looks on the pictures), so there is absolutely no place to relax in silence. The swimming pool is small and hidden behind the bar. The rooms are clean, but very basic (no wardrobe, no safe) which is annoying if you stay there for more than 2 days. When it comes to the massage and water-sports equipment rental - we've been there for a week and we haven't seen any of those things.
Review 17:We were staying for a week in the "delux" bungalow located in the beach. The view from the trace is amazing and the beach is nice and clean. The staff is really nice and helpful.
Review 18:Staff here were fantastic, especially the manager, Jamie. The hotel is in a really great location & the beach is beautiful! I'd definitely go back.
Review 19:Staff could not be nicer, so friendly and helpful. Resort has its own beach which is beautiful with some hammocks and loungers to relax on. Also with a pool for swimming if you don't fancy the sea. Food in the restaurant was lovely and reasonably priced, as well as the drinks! Also not too far from Thongsala pier or from Haad Rinn for the full moon party (hotel also arranged transport for us to and from this for 250 baht with a range of return times) overall great experience, no complaints :)
Review 20:The staff are incredibly slow and frustrating to deal with. We had torequest our room to be cleaned each day. I also waited 50 minutes for aclub sandwich, the average waiting time for food was over 30 minutes. They very rarely had change available for the pool table or if you hadlarger notes. Our first room we were brought to the door was broke, wewere then transferred to a nicer room, but it lacked basic facilitieslike a blow dryer or even a kettle. They charge 4 star prices for a 2star service. Also when we were checking out the woman behind thecounter (she was not thai, she was a large blonde woman) didn't eventhank us she took my passport as a deposit but instead of handing itback to me she threw it at me instead and grunted and walked off, without a doubt the most ignorant woman I've had to deal with.
Review 21:Good location, not too close to the full moon madness, access to aprivate beach and a decent pool. ( not cleaned enough)
Review 22:the island itself wasnt the greatest, had a few bad experiences, but that had nothing to do with the resort.
Review 23:theres not much i didnt like, the staff were friendly, the room was right on the beach, it was private, quiet and a beautiful place to wake up.
Review 24:Dogs
Review 25:The staff are more than friendly, the Thai food I sampled was the best, beautiful beach setting and manicured to perfection through out the day. Great chill out evening music to set the star gazed sky.
Review 26:- no internet in the room -far away from haad rin - the small street to reach the road is dark and creepy in the night -after 10 o clock no bar and no reception
Review 27:the bungalow, the beach and the swimmingpool are really nice. food is ok.
Review 28:We were a group of 7, whereas 3 of us have stayed there once before. We came back because we absolutely loved it last time but were quite disappointed. It seemed to us like absolutely no effort was put into guest relations anymore. It's a list of small things but they add up-everyday they ran out of some fruit or alcohol for the cocktails. No mango, no juice, no vodka... Funny though that friends of the owners were able to order vodka orange right after we were told "no more vodka cocktails"- found it quite rude that when a group orders that half of us have to wait because the female owner decides she want to be served first. - either wait or try being more descrete-a friend of the owners (whoever she was, she knew them) yelling at a child how stupid she is over and over "now write stupid 20times cause that is what you are, stupid" at breakfast-the female owner running around shooing and snapping her fingers when they didnt bring/brought her drinks at the wrong timeSo alot of small things added up and either made us feel not very welcomed or really uncomfortable to look at/be around. If some things were a once off we would have talked it down to there being an anniversary celebration or something, but in the end it was an atmosphere we did not look for while on holidays. The final blow came on our 2nd last day. Our friends booked an extra night, so we can stay together a bit longer before all of us seperate for our travels. But somebody has overbooked and our friends were left without a room. None of the staff there knew what to do, and the person in charge was not reachable. Last day and they were waiting around. Obviously the mood was gone. In the end they were told over the phone, by the female owner; they can share a double room the 5 of them, stay in the staff dorm or pack up and leave.
Review 29:Compared to last time (3years) ago a few things have changed for the better: pick up from the ferry, a/c in all rooms, new chillout beds on the beach. The beach itself is kept in a immaculate condition and you can see effort is put into it Also the food is really nice, not only the thai food but also english/western dishes.
Review 30:We enjoyed out stay at PBR very much, you will get a good resort for less money. The food is very good. Location and Beach is beautiful. We lived in the deluxe bungalow on the Beach with a/c.
Review 31:The music near my room all day chill and house music aometime i need to relax. The walk to the hotel
Review 32:Bungalow on the beach was wonderful. Bath rom autside very col. Restourant on the beach beautiful.
Review 33:No safety deposit box, not many restaurants around place need a bike. House music playing
Review 34:Good value for money. Literally on the beach, clean. Friendly staff and glad to help.
Review 35:Found that there was a 10% charge on the tab we had running for a few days which put us off paying by card.
Review 36:Having our own bunglow was very nice and the staff were very happy to help. The new pool was refreshing and beach very clean.
Review 37:Cannot really swim there because of the low tide. Cannot bring food and drinks from the outside (not that we wanted to, but more a matter of principle). Also, although the hotel can arrange free pick you from the dock, it does not take you back to the dock when you leave.
Review 38:Great value for the money. Very relaxing environment and good food in the restaurant. Staff is very professional.
Review 39:No wifi in bungalow Not 24-hr front desk Beach itself isn't super-pretty but fine!
Review 40:Easy 100baht ride to Full Moon Party. Beautiful view of ocean and Ko Samui Semi-Private Beach Cool Pool
Review 41:Liked everything.
Review 42:The resort facilities were great, staff great, owners great!! Food was brilliant. You are made to feel like a part of the family. Everything is great.
Review 43:Small, hot, very basic bungalow (air-con just coped). Need for 2000 baht security deposit or passport deposit at check-in and room inspection before getting it back at check-out
Review 44:The view from the bar/restaraunt
Review 45:The beach was unswimmable with sea urchins and coral, very shallow. The hotels also charges a 5% fee for paying with Credit Card. Make sure to bring enough cash!
Review 46:The staff was friendly and accessible to help with tours and parties
Review 47:Very strict about bringing food or drink in premises. Had one incident at night after normal working hours 10pm had passed , we were unsure if other beach bar would be open (as is stated is only open till last person leaves) we brought a bottle of water in saw bar was open, so sat for a alcoholic drink but before we order where reprimanded for being water in , which we would understands if it was alcohol or food but we ate most of our meals there and it seemed a bit extrem at that time of night
Review 48:Lots of variety of good fresh food, nice pool , good music, clean, relatively quite ( place near by our bungalows randomly played music in early hours but was bearable with loud fan in room) full moon night had good service with free BBQ and taxi to/return service Was excellent
Review 49:Strict rule for no food and drinks, they want you to buy food and water from bar and restaurant, which is overpriced. Place owner is English, rude, tried to charge us for 2000 bath because saw that we bringing C-market bags, so he decided this is food and it’s forbidden.
Review 50:Other bars near this place
Review 51:The owners of the resort are awful they are rude and unhelpful we arrived at night time so it was dark the next day we walked in with a sandwich that we grabed on the way back from a dive trip The owner charged us 2000baht without even telling is because we brought in food from outside. Do not stay here
Review 52:The beach location
Review 53:The trash was never taken out and we were not told of the charges we would incur when checking in.
Review 54:Beautiful location and near the delicious Memory restaurant . The beach is lovely, hammocks are comfortable, and the bed was comfortable
Review 55:Bungalow was soooo hot it was like a sauna!!! we had a fan but it just blew the hot sweaty air around. Impossible to sleep!!!! asked to change to aircon and they had none available but a member of staff said we could have his room. We agreed and then he disspeared all day!!!! ended up leaving a day early. The beach isn't great. The sea is dirty and quite muddy. Not pleasant.
Review 56:The food was excellent.
Review 57:Beach is not for swimming. Shallow cloudy water, urchins in areas with seaweed. Many kiters around. Unfriendly owners harschly explain that NO food and drinks from outside are allowed AT ALL. Even water, has to be baught expensively in the restaurant. This is downright ridiculous.
Review 58:Clean complex with cosy little bungalows, taken good care of. Beautiful garden, quiet. Friendly staff
Review 59:Food can be better.
Review 60:-The resort is sooo nicely located by the beach and a 5mins walk to the main road, where you can find shops and restaurants. - The bungalow was nice cute and clean. Right in the front row to the sea. - staffs always smile and helpful. -
Review 61:all rooms with AC were booked out so we got the FAN room. The first night was too warm, the other nights it were colder. I would ASK the Hotel management to offer thinner blankets.
Review 62:Pretty bungalow, nice location, good food in the restaurant, good laundry service, nice staff, nice pets...
Review 63:Unfortunately a long list... Got there and the room had no hot water, no tv, no wifi. Found out wifi is only in bar and restaurant. Asked to upgrade room and had to pay not only the 6 night stay but the difference to upgrade and then we could only get 3 nignts of the upgrade: was very appreciative of being given the option but still a pain. Had to move to another room twice. Servers in the resturant messed up 5-6 orders out of the 6 people In the group over the 5 day stay. Both bungalows we stayed in had holes for bugs to crawl into. Had to apply bug spray everytime with cream from 3 bites in two nights that I had gotten there. Boyfriend almost slipped down the stairs going to the bathroom twice because there is no grip. Doors and handles were loose and sink leaked.
Review 64:Nice dogs, pool area, bartender, quite beach, good food, convient restaurant and bar on site. Go charge tabs for dinning and bar to room and then pay before you leave.
Review 65:The food was great, the staff were fantastic, the food was delicious and value for money, the cocktails were terrific and loved our room on the beach. Was relaxing but also had kiteboarding on the beach for the adventurous and not too far from the nearest towns. I didn't want to leave.
Review 66:WiFi is not reaching to the bungalow which sucked cause it was really nice to sit infront of bungalow. Also had to use static IP address cause couldnt get IP address automatically. Uncomfortable locks
Review 67:Good location, very beautiful garden with lots of trees, bushes and flowers. Nice beach bar ( Greetings to Mike! ). I really loved there, got good rest.
Review 68:Bungalow door was loose and didn't slide properly Lots of gaps in walls/door etc so plenty of bugs could get in! Lengthy list of rules at reception including potential fines in red letters, a bit off putting as a first impression! Rooms are only cleaned on request. Didn't even know this until we left so our room was never cleaned.
Review 69:Lovely looking bungalows right on the beach Food in the restaurant was delicious (particularly the poached eggs on the breakfast menu!) Staff and owners generally lovely and friendly Nice pool and surrounding area, plenty of loungers and great location The beach itself is great for a sunset and has lots of hammocks etc
Review 70:We honestly couldn't fault the resort.
Review 71:Myself & my boyfriend stayed in B2 wooden beachfront bungalow and if we ever return to Koh Phangnan wouldn't want to stay anywhere else but here. We actually visited four other places too on our trip around Thailand but this was our favourite. Being English, it was really welcoming to have Andy (the owner, also English) come and greet us at check in. Our main purpose for going to this island was for New Years full moon party but we wanted to have somewhere nice to relax for a few days after too. This resort was ideal - only 15 mins taxi from Had Rin and then had the choice of lazing by the pool, by the beach or in our hammock. We also did some kayaking in the sea and saw some flying fish! I've never bothered with reviews before - but really felt this particular resort deserved a special shout out.
Review 72:Do not stay here!! They gave someone else our booking and room, thensaid we could have another room cheaper, or we could get the otherpeople to leave the room after they had settled in. The other room wasterrible, which the staff thought was funny!!!!!!
Review 73:The beach and nothing else!
Review 74:Wifi - tragedy, only in restaurant area. Without hot water in the shower.
Review 75:Girls from the reception were really helpful. The beach was clean, food in the restaurant was good.
Review 76:There wasn't anything really to dislike .
Review 77:Like the way you can order food drinks , taxi , boat , etc on your room number and pay at the end so you don't have to carry anything around .
Review 78:Photos on website misleading Standard Bungalows very unsecure only lock was a clip and padlock on door. No safe or lockbox. Aircon not working in room they were unable to change or upgrade. Let us get a refund after much discussion but we still had to pay for one night. Too many rules not allowed to bring own food and drinks to resort.
Review 79:Beach ok
Review 80:i would recommend owners to change hammocks or do smth with them. If u take a seat - your skin will get blue.. On the third night we rent a house next to PBR, they are like partners. More high price, no hot water, bed smell in the room and some insects in matrasse. Dissapointed. Better to stay in PBR or look for another place.
Review 81:Cozy place and beach, hospital and helpful owner Dace from the first until last minute. Little clean and cozy house bangallow with a/c, hot water and comfortable bed. Lovely garden, beautiful beach with huge amount of shells) So good and peacful in tje morning. Nice restaurant, delisious croissant, good coffe. Not far from Haad rin and Tong Sala - good location.
Review 82:We didn’t like the policy of not bringing own food or drinks to the territory. We felt like criminals with our water bottles. I happen to be a fruitarian so instead of paying ~4x the price in the resaurant for the fruit I walked to the Big-C several times a day.
Review 83:Beach is really nice and the pillows not as big and useless as usually in Thailand. Also Ban Tai is my favorite area of Ko Phangan
Review 84:Shower had very low pressure and the pipes smelled bad. Wifi was out of range if you were located not that far from the common areas. Is quite a bit far from the village so you need a MB to go anywhere, this dan also be seen as a good thing if you want to relax and forget about stress
Review 85:The proximity to the beach is a "must"; the staff people were very nice, friendly and helpful. It was a very good value for the money
Review 86:- Bed, airco, lock, hygiene all below par.- No food/drink rule is ridiculous - Location too remote - Don't use the recommended scooter service, they rip you off for a minor scratch - Manager pushes all sorts of trips/dives etc. Why? Money probably. Annoying.
Review 87:- Thai personel friendly, helpful, decent- Area well-maintained - Clearly well-organized - Restaurant/bar affordable
Review 88:There is a strict policy to ban all food and drinks from outside the hotel. You are obligated to spend every coin inside the resort. The beach is nice, but don't expect to go out for a swim. It's shallow water. Another thing was the shower, no curtain: so your toilet and bathroom turns into one big, wet frenzy (make sure to keep towels and toilet paper outside your bathroom). Another thing is that your room is only cleaned on request (for the money you pay, you should expect that it would be done each day). We were in a beach house and our view was (during windy days) blocked by kite surfers and there was this Australian muscled instructor who did not scrutinize using the F-word frequently and tossing his male hormones around. The Thai instructor was mostly flirting with British female guests when business was slow: very unprofessional.
Review 89:Compared to other places around this hotel Phangan Beach Resort is the best. It's close to the beach and clean (they clean the beach and pool each morning), the food is good and the drinks are awesome: Kaj the bartender at the beach bar is a jolly man who loves his business and puts a smile on everybody's face. The rental service and taxi service (pick up from the ferr and to the Full Moon party) were great. Though there were some things we didn't like (still far better than other places), we still recommend this to other people.
Review 90:The air conditioner dripped water onto the bed. Woke up multiple nights with a puddle on the bed. The beach is not good for swimming at all, only for laying out. I booked a ferry/bus combo through the hotel and they failed to give me the tickets. I ended up having to pay again at the ferry port because of their mistake. Also, I don't think it's professional for the hotel owners to often be drinking at the hotel bar, but that could be Thailand. Overall I thought the staff were just average besides the bartender no one else seemed that remarkable.
Review 91:The bartender, Guy, is great! The food is also very good (although you can get it much cheaper outside of the hotel), but it is a high quality at the hotel. The pool is nice.
Review 92:Mosquitos in the bungalow :(
Review 93:The beach front is amazing, the best place to relax and enjoy living on an island. Due to the fact that the beach is private, the view is exclusive, it's not crowded and nobody will force you to buy souvenirs or ice cream. If you are hungry or thirsty you'd better go to the resort bar or restaurant. To be honest: i did not expect it, but the food and drinks are really delicious (and not expensive). And on top: the staff is absolutely kind and do really take care. Me and my boyfriend enjoyed our 3 night stay very much.
Review 94:restaurant closes at 22 h and they don't make the room if you don't ask for it. Wifi not very good.
Review 95:excelent room and very friendly staff, nice restaurant and swimmingpool.
Review 96:'Outside' bathroom Abrupt attitude of owner Cleanliness of pool Lack of regular housekeeping to rooms Wildlife Lack of facilities in room (safe, wardrobe, drawers, 1 socket)
Review 97:On the beach Good food New manager is eager to help and please (sometimes OTT)
Review 98:Was told we could arrive a day late and not pay penalty when I called, but then I was forced to pay for the extra day. Nobody told me I had to leave early -- just charged for an extra night. Bad communication.
Review 99:Great for Full Moon Party people, but if you're not in the group and age range (20 something), you may not fit in. It's on a beach, but the beach is unappealing. The pool was nice. Food was good, especially the milkshakes! Fellow at the desk was friendly too - Chris.
Review 100:Rubbish on the beach, the fact the original beach resort has been cut up into tiny pieces making room for three resorts all too small to be called a resort now just a few huts and a dirty beach with unswimable water. I came here six years ago had a fantastic time I am sad I went back it was a joke.
Review 101:Price of coffee and food
Review 102:Close to the beach and a kitesurf spot Close to the main city of the island Good swimming pool, clean and with a great view Bungalows with fan really clean and cosy Very good staff Low price but high quality of service and room
Review 103:Music from a pc. All day. From 9 to 23.. Bad.......
Review 104:The stuff is not good at all and the room service is absant all the way
Review 105:I like the location and the view of the resort beach
Review 106:Staff, location, beach, hammocks, breakfast,
Review 107:Bungalows so close to sea- amazing view wake up to everyday
Review 108:Right at the beach, clean, prices for drinks and food are very good and staff speaks English and friendly! Top!!
Review 109:Everything was perfect
Review 110:English run resort Great staff Great atmosphere
Review 111:None
Review 112:The owners are two of the nicest people i have met! Really friendly staff. Would recommend
Review 113:No safelock in room and not allow food or drinks from outside.
Review 114:Location, breakfast good, beach is beautiful with amenities and nice beach bar.
Review 115:Week wi fi
Review 116:Fine clean with nice swiming pool
Review 117:A great place to stay at on Ko Phangan. Clean, comfortable and friendly.
Review 118:Just a perfect place, stuff and location. Highly recommended and will definitely go back there.
Review 119:No wifi in the room.
Review 120:Locatie right on the beach. Nice swimming pool. Good restaurant. Good wifi in the common areas.
Review 121:The shower head :D
Review 122:What i like in this place is chilling and relaxing atmosphere so you feel that you are out of your busy life..
Review 123:Great location, great staff, great food and drink. This place is paradise. I could stay there forever!!
Review 124:Awesome !
Review 125:You should ask the staff to clean your room.
Review 126:Very nice staff and manager. The beach is very nice.
Review 127:The area around the hotel was very quiet, and is about 20 min away from the liveliness of the full moon party.
Review 128:We stayed in the villa which was very good for our large group. There was a return taxi to te full moon party provided by the hotel for a good price. There was a nice atmosphere around the hotel and it was clean. The pool area was lovely and the hotel was right on the beach.
Review 129:The resort does not allow to bring any food, alcohol, and bewerages from outside, which sometimes it is just annoying, especially when you come back from the town to the resort, want to have a drink in the bar and when you come up to the bar you notice that the bar is closed and because of that you have to go back to the town to get something to drink. Karolina, Poland
Review 130:The resort has a very nice garden, the beach and the swimming pool. The staff is very friendly. Karolina, Poland
Review 131:The beach, while pretty, offers a water depth of no more than a foot or two for the first 100m (?) which makes swimming impossible. With the temperature sitting in the mid-thirties (Celsius) some decent sea to swim in would have been very much appreciated as the pool water temperature was pretty close to air temperature. From the moment we arrived at reception the general feeling from our group of five adults was that we were treated with contempt and mistrust by the one particular manager. The rules were shoved in front of us and we were, for the duration of our stay, treated like insolent teenagers instead of the easy-going, well-mannered 30-something and 40-somethings we are. This feeling lingered for the duration of our stay and ensured that the sour taste remained. The general ambience was that of a budget backpackers instead of the trendy beach resort is claims to be.I booked a beachfront room as I felt like a bit of a spoil for this leg of our Thailand trip and while the view and proximity to the beach cannot be faulted, the room size, facilities, layout and bathroom fell very short of what I was expecting from what I thought was three star resort. The room size cannot be larger than 10m2 or 12m2 (estimated) and, after travelling around Thailand for 8 days prior to our arrival, we were looking very forward to unpacking our things and not having to live out of a suitcase for the 6 nights on the island. To my shock and dismay there was no cupboard? Only a small raised platform with a bar above it offering a couple of hangers – not nearly enough space for two people’s belongings and clothes for one night let alone a week. The bathroom though was the real deal-breaker in that it is essentially an open-air bathroom (no air-conditioning) with steep steps down from the room with no bathmat, a sink falling off the wall (enough of a gap to wedge one’s toothbrush and toothpaste in to – which is necessary as there is no surface to pack one’s toiletries???
Review 132:The public areas including the restaurant, picnic tables on the beach, bar and pool are pleasant and well kept. The restaurant food was tasty and reasonably priced for a resort. Service was friendly and prompt at both the bar and the restaurant. Rennie is a real asset to the resort and she made us feel welcome and comfortable at all times.
Review 133:I sincerely feel that mamagement /owners need a refresher course in guest relations. On arrival , after a long days travelling , there was a complete lack of tact at check in. We were given an A4 list of rules and regulations which in my life I have never experienced , certainly not in any of the other 3 resorts we had stayed in along the way or ever for that matter. It felt a bit regimented and I can't say that I was really comfortable or felt at home on the property after that but we stuck it out for our 6 nights. In all the other resorts we stayed in Thailand , Phangan Beach Resort being the most expensive of the lot , we received a bottle of free water everyday and there was a coffee making facility in the room. We had no bedside lamp in our beach hut and the roof lights were a bit blinding. It was a good thing that I packed our head torches. A couple of hooks for towels and sanitary bags in the bathroom would not go amiss. I did whilst booking communicate with Andy quite a bit but not once did he introduce himself to me or when we left thank us for our patronage and say goodbye , so definitely a refresher course in guest relations is highly recommended. I know a business is there to make money but when you only see dollar signs it rubs off on your customers. It's definitelty a give and take from both sides and I feel that between the 5 of us that stayed there we gave loads of money to the business but the value factor and personal touch was missing e.g one small example was the 250bt return we were charged to the FMP which is normallly only a 200bt journey. The business seems to forget that small things go a long way to make a customer happy.
Review 134:We loved our little hut on the beach. The bar lady , Rennie , was very very friendly and helpful at all times. Communal property is well kept and a great bar area. We did snorkelling one day and could use the equipment from the resort. We rented a Toyot Hilux through the resort for 1700bt a day , it was nice to have to explore the island.
The Fine Print
