Reviews for Piedra de Agua Palenque
Review 1:Cramped room. Tight bathroom. No hanging space or storage. No seating in the room. Fan was ineffective so room was very hot. Linen was stained and marked.
Review 2:Great location for the archeological site. Quiet. Breakfast was ok.
Review 3:No on-site restaurant, though they'd be happy to buy food back for you and set the dinner table. We were charged about US$10 for accidentally breaking the ceramic shampoo container (which was badly designed to begin with) because it was spherical and very difficult to grip.
Review 4:The rustic feel of the property. Lady who makes breakfast! Staff were helpful with sightseeing arrangements.
Review 5:We truly understand while we were in a Latin American country that understanding and speaking Spanish is a must, but this throwed us off. The staff did not speak any English at all, we had to use Google Translate on their front desk computer and we disliked their unmotivated approach and treatment towards us. We expected more friendliness, one of the main staff treated us in a "when are you finally gone" attitude. I think I'd rather stay at the El Panchan next time!
Review 6:The hotel made a good impression overall, it is well situated on the way to the sites and the concept and interior is accommodating. The pool is a nice extra, which we only used once.
Review 7:I've been to Palenque several times, never have I encountered with such a friendly staff and the commodities I found at Piedra de Agua, excellent hotel boutique.
Review 8:Linen was torn, dirty, with hair of the previous visitors. You can have either boiling water or cold in the shower, not easy to adjust. We found cockroach. No air conditioning!
Review 9:Good location, 10 min driving to the arceological site. Comfortable metres. Ethnic furniture.
Review 10:The outside "jacuzzi" had no bubbles
Review 11:The staff was really lovely and helpfull. The room was great, awesome bathroom and the bath in the terrace is really nice. Amazing breakfast!
Review 12:As others have mentioned, this is not a place to come if you are overly reliant on air conditioning - there is none. However, each room has an effective ceiling fan and we had no issues with the heat.
Review 13:The hotel is positioned about half way between the ruins and town and provides a great escape from everything. We particularly liked returning after a hot day to the pool which is set overlooking the jungle. Sitting by it, we saw hummingbirds, iguanas and other types of birds. Breakfast on the terrace of your room is lovely and worth the 95 pesos. The staff are really helpful and friendly. They do their best to accomodate non-Spanish speakers.
Review 14:Very creative use of local building techniques to create both a rustic Mayan ambiance with upscale chic Mexican lodging. Love the outdoor hot tub on your own private patio. The chic pool is located next to a small stream that looks out on a pasture with cattle grazing. Amazingly quiet and tranquil.
Review 15:It was so hot in the room it was very difficult to sleep. The idea was romantic but the reality was you were too hot to be next to each other.
Review 16:It was beautiful and serine.
Review 17:Liked it all
Review 18:It's situated in semi jungle and the fact it's close to a sanctuary makes night time a real spectacle of jungle noise. The rooms have style and the pool is lovely.
Review 19:The hotel says it has a full bar, but there was no beer or white wine available the first couple nights we were there. There are also no nearby stores, so that was a negative. We ended up buying beer at the only nearby restaurant and storing it in the hotel's refrigerator. Breakfast is beautiful, but it would be nice to have some variety as we were there 4 nights and it was always the same. Finally, the staff was very nice and helpful, but it would be good to have an orientation upon arrival, specifically how to get into town for dinner (or order food to be delivered) and how to grab a collectivo to the ruins.
Review 20:The location on the road to the Palenque ruins is wonderful. We heard howler monkeys at night and had scarlet macaws and other parrots fly over each day. We thoroughly enjoyed the hotel's proximity to the Aluxes Eco Park (just 100 meters away), and we highly recommend a visit to this excellent facility that is helping to reintroduce scarlet macaws to Palenque. Hotel rooms were spacious and comfortable, and it was nice to cool off in the pool in the afternoon.
Review 21:I would love to they have a restaurant in the hotel.
Review 22:Very intimate and with a completely felling of being inside the jungle without the risk. So quiet and pacefull, perfect for a romantic weekend. The staff is very friendly and helpful, they recommend us an excellent tour guide company to get around the area knowing all the incredible ruins and beautiful waterfalls.
Review 23:At our checkup there was a fee added for "bookings commission" that booking.com charges them. Usually the price the booking lists when we book is the price we pay without any hidden "commission fees". But overall it was a nice place to stay for 3 nights in palenque.
Review 24:We liked the minimal decore and the beautiful lush jungle gardens. The stuff were very helpful and did their best to solve the minor issue with our water heater. The private terrace is a romantic place to enjoy your time. From what we saw this was the best boutique design hotel in palenque.
Review 25:No restaurant, so if you want to eat, sometimes you can have a delivery from a restaurant, but not always. For exemple, if it is raining, the restaurant doesn't deliver. You gave to walk 500 meters for one restaurant or take a taxi to go to the village as the hotel is near the Park of the ruins. No wifi in the room, but it contributes to the "jungle" athmosphere. The bed sheets were not changed rom teh past guest the first night so we slept on dirty sheets. Complicated to make the bath tube in the terrace work.
Review 26:The place was amazing in the middle of the rainforest near to the ruins park. You feel in the middle of nowhere. You can hear to the birds and other animals. It is impressing ! The breakfast is served in your private terrace. The decoration is beautiful. You can buy the items you like. The room and ten bathroom is spacious.
Review 27:really beautiful hotel, cabanas in a natural and beautiful environment staff very friendly excellent to relax and visit nearby Palenque national park.
Review 28:No restaurant on site, no hot water the day we arrived, the pool could've benefited from a clean, no air con or wi-fi in the rooms.
Review 29:The individual huts each have a hammock and bath on the terrace, the rooms are spacious and the breakfast is well worth paying extra for. The staff were very flexible and helpful. Easy to hail a minibus on the road to the ruins.
Review 30:No restaurant on site, difficult to go out to dinner without a car. No wifi in the rooms (only lobby). Other guests extremely loud late into the night.
Review 31:Comfortable room, nice setting.
Review 32:No restaurant but there was a good one across the street. Loud music from neighboring facility was annoying late Saturday night. This might be a plus for some.
Review 33:Birds outside. Pygmy Owl calling next to lobby. Lots of warblers around. Monkeys heard on site. Spacious cabana. Really nice place. Lots of amenities in the room including a flashlight on the bed stand. Huge bathroom.
Review 34:No TV and Wifi in the rooms. No TV at all so there is nothing to do after you get back from a tour except talk with friends or check the internet in the lobby which was far from our room.
Review 35:It was jungle like, very exotic, kind of remote, quiet.
Review 36:as it rained a lot while we were there, everything was really humid, also in the rooms as there is no proper isolation. do not try the massage unless you like to get a really hard massage of a corpulent woman almost hitting you.
Review 37:The bungalows were very nicely done, the food you could order from a different hotel and was prepared either in the common room or on your own terrasse and also the staff who was very nice.
Review 38:1. Absence of a restaurant on site - although take-away food could be ordered & delivered, and staff were also happy to recommend nearby eating places. 2. Internet reception was not strong, but it was nice to get away from the web for a while!
Review 39:1. Staff were very helpful. 2. Everything was very beautiful, clean and tidy. 3. They offer a very enjoyable breakfast which can be delivered to your room. 4. Pleasant swimming pool - but really only room for 2 to swim. 5. One tree at times had many colourful Macaws from the conservation park nearby. 6. It was convenient for the Mayan ruins & for a guided jungle walk at that site. 7. A Aluxes Ecoparque was just across the road and was very enjoyable to go round as it was a conservation park and not a zoo.
Review 40:Two hammocks in the terrace would be a plus. No food prepared in the hotel itself, but they have partnerships with local restaurants.
Review 41:All rooms are equipped with ceiling fans and mosquito nets on the windows. Staff is professional and sorted out our "little problems". Cabins are isolated enough to give you privacy to rest in your hammock or have breakfast in your private terrace. The breakfast you can order/have in your private terrace is a plus! And it's not expensive. They offer tours to see the surroundings. These tours are hardly more expensive than what you can find in town.
Review 42:Hotel Piedra del Agua is the perfect place to relax and enjoy your vacations; it gives you the opportunity to reconnect with yourself, rest and forget about all the things that happens outside. The rooms are really private and full of accents. I enjoy that you have your own porch with hottub and "hamaca". Also, they provide you natural's chiapas craft products... Coffee is delicious and all the staff were great! Is a place to spoil you.
Review 43:The hotel is close to the maya site and to be honest it s much better to be there than in the city center of palenque! You have the feeling to be in the middle of the jungle! The lodge is nice, furnished with good taste and it s really clean! It s more expensive than the average in Mexico but it really worths it!
Review 44:. the room showed real style and was nicely joined to the patio which had a little private outdoor bath... very cool... the pool was elegantly situated looking out over the little river.
Review 45:We were five minutes late for breakfast and had to deal with flies floating in our juice and coffee. Hot tub did not work.
Review 46:Beautiful hotel with spacious bungalows. Peacefully surrounded by nature, so bring insect repellent. Friendly staff. Great wifi, but only in the (welcoming) lobby.
Review 47:The door can close very esay and let you outside.
Review 48:Is a very romantic space, and most of the rooms are very private. The staff is really helpful. Also they are very close to palenque.
Review 49:It was a little difficult to adjust to the lack of air conditioning, however, it was only for a while because the breeze entered the room at night.
Review 50:We love the fact that the hotel is so in touch with nature. Everywhere you look, the flora and fauna are incredible. You can observe a variety of birds from the swimming pool. Another wonderful aspect of this place is the service, from the gardener, housekeeper, to everyone at reception. The breakfast is outstanding also.
Review 51:stuffy room but it get sorted if you leave the window open.
Review 52:excellent facilities in the jungle (selva)
Review 53:Very nice relaxing hotel, close to maya ruines, next door a very good family- owned restaurant "Bajum"
Review 54:Wonderful location with very helpful staff.
Review 55:NO RESTAURANT OR KITCHEN BUT NEAR BY DON MUCHOS RESTAURANT. EXCELLENT
Review 56:EXCELLENT, GREAT STAFF GREAT PLACE
Review 57:No internet, no electricity at some point
Review 58:Great swimming pool, lovely location in the wild
Review 59:the smell in our room was nauseating
Review 60:the garden
Review 61:Bar selection of wines
Review 62:Nature, silence, clean and cozy, with private terrace and jacuzzi, romantic
Review 63:they offer you internet all over the place and is not really working in the rooms
Review 64:The concept of the hotel is great
Review 65:No hot water in the bathroom
Review 66:The location, breakfast, personnel very attentive. Very accessible to changes
Review 67:This may have been a very nice resort in the past but it has not been kept up.
Review 68:We just loved this little hotel. Very unexpected - a lot of style and comfort and the pool was heavenly. The staff were fantastic as well.
Review 69:No wifi in the rooms
Review 70:All was really nice, very friendly staff, clean rooms and spacious bathroom, very nice hot tub outside in a lovely garden
Review 71:No wifi other than in lobby
Review 72:Lovely big swimming pool Rooms very comfortable.
Review 73:The staff could smile a bit more. No wifi in the rooms. No air con so rooms get very hot and there's no mousquito net which is a bit stressful for the first night.
Review 74:Big swimming pool combined with a private outdoor bath for each room. Proximity of the jungle and all bath products supplied are excellent (hôtel is a Spa)
Review 75:Internet only in main areas.
Review 76:Fabulous pool, well integrated into the landscaped grounds. In general, very pleasing aesthetic and design, natural products, good breakfast, personal hot tub prepared each night with candles and scented oils.
Review 77:One middle age male staff member was very unfriendly and unresponsive to requests.(getting lights turned on in our room) He required monetary payment for drinks, even though the manager later said they could be put on my credit card. I am quite sure they charged us twice.I also believe I had money taken from our room. That was my mistake because I didn't ask for a lock box.
Review 78:Location, beauty and peacefulness were great. Most of the staff, especially the woman who cleaned our room was wonderful. The breakfasts were terrific! We loved the swimming pool.
Review 79:Very basic decor with an unfinished concrete appearance. Very smallrooms with poor lighting. You can do much better for the money
Review 80:Staff are excellent and dealt with problems with leaking roof promptlyallocating other rooms. Location is good for reaching the ruinas bycollectivo (20 pesos) and the gardens are lovely
Review 81:Lack of hooks, chairs, or furniture for placing clothes, books, objects, etc. Slippery floors in bathroom. No wi fi in room.
Review 82:Attractive grounds, helpful staff. Fine breakfasts. Nice walk to nearby restaurant for dinner.
Review 83:We could not spent there more time.
Review 84:In the simplicity there is a wonder. The architecture of the "cabaña" is fantastic and the service around perfect.
Review 85:dogs barking bring earbuds, this seems to be problematic allover mexico, where u aren't insulated in aircon hotel as there are many stray dogs
Review 86:it's inside Palenque nat park,it was in jungle setting, under palapa type cababas,it felt safe and natural.tub on deck was nice and even with language barrier we could communicate with staff.very nice eco place
Review 87:If you're travelling alone, it is not the best place to meet people as it is very quiet. As a suggestion, I would recommend having a wardrobe in the rooms, somewhere where you can keep your clothes. Another remark is that being the hotel in the jungle and having quite a big staff for its 10 rooms, it would be nice if the bar would serve some light meals in case people don't want to leave for dinner (the nearby restaurant is not the most pleasant place to go as you have to walk in the dark road to get there).
Review 88:Located in the road between the village and the ruins, it's the perfect spot to stay, as the village doesn't have any interest unlike the maya site which is the most beautiful I've ever visited. This small hotel is a small jewel in the middle of the jungle, beautifully decorated with simplicity and tranquility. Great attention to details. Very friendly staff. Pleasant pool. From what I've seen it's the best choice in Palenque area.
Review 89:This is a boutique hotel but even so it is expensive for what it is. WiFi could be a lot better. Upward lighting only in the room may be very tasteful - but hopeless if you want to read in bed - we had to ask for a bedside lamp. At those prices, a bedside lamp should come as standard - as should somewhere to hang clothes!
Review 90:Good location for Palenque. Beautiful furnishing and fittings - very elegant.
Review 91:It's a small and intimate hotel so you don't expect it will be very lively. But they can do better. Close to the reception there's a small bar but for us it was not very inviting to sit there and have a drink. The staff was kind but reactive. They didn't ask if you wanted a drink, there were no small snacks available. They should promote and use this bar better. Not enough light on the terrace.
Review 92:The beautiful, romantic and quiet setting in the jungle and the breakfast on your terrace.
Review 93:Absolutly the most comfortable accommadations of my stay in mexico. The owners are of either european or south american, and youcan really, really feel the difference that management makes. every detail is accounted for in your comforbility. The rroms themselves are spectacular-very large, very private, very private seperation between bathrrom and bedroom, huge very comfortable bed/bedding, perfect location. This place couldnt have gotten better...our private hotub on our porch was the icing on the cake:)
Review 94:A few things need taking care of: 1. wifi -- it was really only strong in the lobby, while the information beforehand said it would be available in all areas. I could pick it up sporadically in the room. 2. The cement floor in the bathroom (and throughout) is dangerously slippery. Really slippery. Mgmt needs to do something about that. Bathmats at the very least. Better to refinish the bathroom floors with a rougher sand or pebble finish. Somebody will fall coming out of the shower (actually my friend did, luckily unhurt). 3. Our room lacked anyplace to hang or put clothes and lacked a desk/chair or stool to work at. Minimal furniture is good, but we needed those. 4. Lacked lamps at either side of the beds for reading at night.
Review 95:LOVED Piedra de Agua in every way -- the design of the place, the staff, the pool and jacuzzi, the variety of wild birds, the garden, the fabulous delicious breakfast. Again, the staff-- they were lovely, helpful -- like staying with a family. The location is good. The public minivans to the ruins on the road are very convenient. I'd come back in a flash. Thanks again to the wonderful staff and to the woman who made the exquisite breakfast. Thanks to Rosa & the other staff whose names I don't know.
Review 96:(perhaps isolated incident) but a nearby dog barked continuously through the night!!
Review 97:Styling and products in the rooms are great. Friendly staff. Really close to Palenque archeological site.
Review 98:No place to put things in rooms. No lighting to read by.
Review 99:Nice pool and breakfast was a treat. Staff very nice. Quiet and peaceful, away from town. No problems taking taxis (due to location) and they can have pizza (and others) delivered!
Review 100:One price for all sized rooms regardless of the number of people in your group. If you are traveling solo, they will try and give you the tiniest room there is, which is extremely small and stuffy and not worth the money they charge. They changed it for me after I complained. If they maintain their practice of one price for any room, always book a room with two double/queen beds.
Review 101:Exceptionally friendly and helpful staff and a great setting surrounded by lots of vegetation and close to the ruins. Nice pool although the water seemed a bit cloudy. Breakfast doesn't come with much, but is well worth the money just for the convenience and eating on your private terrace or by the pool.
Review 102:No restaurant - you really need a car to stay here.
Review 103:The hotel is gorgeous, and very comfortable.Fantastic breakfast. Lovely amenities, including some very nice/locally produced sun screen and insect repellent. Good proximity to the ruins.
Review 104:No restaurant. But near of the hotel are some possibilites. For example great jungle restaurant Don Muchos! Kill the neihbour rooster! Roosters doesnt belong to the nice jungle sounds! Liked everyhing beside this rooster!
Review 105:Unbelievable friendlyness of staff! Muchas gracias Rosie! Staff is offering help, even if nobody asks. For example when we were swimming in the pool, the staff brings towels. And later free water and salty snacks. The breakfast is fantastic! To enjoy it on private terrace is really an experience. The hotel is very nice decorated! Great work Lyndia! At night everything is lighted with fire and candles. Once there have been fresh flowers on the bed with a good night poem! So many small delights what makes a stay at Piedra de Agua wonderful! Wanna thank the whole staff and the owners! Continue your fantastic work! I definetely will return sometimes. MUCHAS GRACIAS! Last but no least - it is near to the ruins and surrounded by wonderful nature!
Review 106:No ceramic on the floor and no restaurant. We had to go out for diner but the continental breakfast served on our room terrace was excellent!
Review 107:Beautiful rooms in nature, awesome vegetation around and close to the ruins.
Review 108:When arriving the price was higher than when I booked it. We also got two beds insted of one kingsize. Later we figured it was available. The hotel is still not completely finished. It took ages to get hot water in the shower and once it was available it was boiling it was really difficult to adjust it. Even we asked for breakfast it was not available at the first day. The second day the made more effort it some fruits were available. The hotel says it is a 5 star hotel but it is not. I do travel a lot and it is far away from any 5 Start hotel. Best a 3 star. There are even no closets in the room and the pool they have was not cleaned and heated. To be honest it was a complete rip-off and it is not recommendable at all. There are better hotels then this and it looks like the owners just want to get the easy money.
Review 109:The idea behind the hotel and the rooms are good but the actual execution is bad.
Review 110:No aircon. But fans worked OK in the end.
Review 111:Design. Location. Amenities.
Review 112:no restaurant.no wifi in lodge, only at reception.poor lighting in lodge.
Review 113:size of lodge
Review 114:No restaurant (they do have arrangements for delivery from a of nearby restaurant though).
Review 115:Location, premises. Excellent staff.
Review 116:The matresses are cover with plastic, which made sleeping uncomfortable
Review 117:Location is awesome
Review 118:Not one member of staff spoke English. Wasn't easy!
Review 119:Lovely rooms. Thoughtful touches. Comfortable bed.
Review 120:this nice little hotel is very quiet and very close to Palenque historic area.
Review 121:nothing
Review 122:they were all kind, nice and always on hand. the structure's amazing
Review 123:Humidity Poor timing and ccuracy in service
Review 124:Nature
Review 125:No hot water first night, no A/C
Review 126:Decor, individual cabanas, outdoor tub, pure water, hammock
