Reviews for Yaxkin Hostel-Palenque
Review 1:Internet connection was unstable. No hot water in the dorm room. There are mushrooms growing on the shower stall wall (it is more funny than anything else but it probably means the shower is not that clean).
Review 2:Good location. Private room was decent except the mosquitos can fly in through the big gap under the door. The dorm room can get pretty hot in December.
Review 3:The individual room we had was dirty. The bed was bad too and it's not cheap. We changed after the first nights for a better place.
Review 4:I guess it's better for people staying in the dorms
Review 5:No atmosphere at all, apart from having dorms I wouldn't call this a hostel. Dark all the time, doesn't feel welcoming or comfortable.
Review 6:Good location. Feels safe. Shower pressure is perfect.
Review 7:Room was supposed to be a king size room. In fact it was very small with nowhere to put anything. It also smelt very musty.
Review 8:Nice restaurant and bar attached. helpful staff.
Review 9:WiFi doesn't work most of the times. There is a kitchen but most of the pans pots and cutlery are missing.
Review 10:The hostel and its garden look amazing. Close to buses, shops and food.
Review 11:I was charged 50 pesos more than I had booked it for, the staff was veryunfriendly, there was no wifi in the rooms and the water was yellow whenI turned on the tap
Review 12:They have a deceptively nice reception area. The actual rooms aremuch worse
Review 13:The rooms Look tidy but there was mould in the rooms. The bed was not comfortable. The cafe staff was unfriendly and the food was poor.
Review 14:Looks nice in First sight The cheese and wine opposite the hostel is beautiful!
Review 15:Slow / poor signal of wifi Showers outside and cramped Cold water only Staff were very unhelpful and didn't seem like they wanted to help.
Review 16:Great location Cafe on site
Review 17:NO hot water in shower or sink, no WiFi, very loud AC unit. Checked out after first night of the expected three nights. No refund.
Review 18:Ajacent restaurant was very good, it's called Jade
Review 19:In one single night I found a big spider, a coacroach and a scorpion inmy room. Scorpion was too much for me so I called the guy that was inthe reception to either remove or kill it. The only thing the guy didwas to send the scorpion back to the its hole, inside my room. Iobviously couln´t sleep anymore. This was the only guy in the hostel´sstaff that was not helpful. The hostel can try to argue that these kindof animals appear like this because you´re in a jungle but the truth isthat if the hostel was taken care of it wouldn´t have that many holes inthe wooden doors and ceilings that are actually rooting. Facilities needa lot of care. Bed was bad, probably many years old.
Review 20:Staff was really friendly (special thanks to Mario, super helful andnice). Good place to meet new people from all over the world and next tothe bus stop.
Review 21:Only one low power fan in the room, on a super hot day. Dead cockroach in the sink. Wi-Fi only at the entrance desk. We changed hostel on the next day.
Review 22:No window to the outside, bathroom separated from room by medium sized wall, sink totally broken and an overwhelming smell of sewage from the drains. The ladies are lovely and welcoming, but luckily it was only a stop of for us.
Review 23:Really bad wifi, no breakfast, staff weren't very helpful. The hostel has lots of potential that isn't being used.
Review 24:Good location, has potential
Review 25:My room said free wifi, but turned out not to be in the room. The upsideis it keeps you more social, but for the high rate of the room I had, itshould honestly say there is lobby access. Also, for higher $ privaterooms, I think a breakfast included is reasonable.
Review 26:The look and feel were welcoming, comfortable, laid-back while stylish.Staff was nice. My room was nice. I met some other nice travelers. Therestaurant has good food at good prices.
Review 27:Hard time with fierce mosquitoes and other bugs. But it's jungle around. Cover legs and arms after sunset and put lots of repulsive.
Review 28:Great location away from noise Nice premises and garden Nice inhouse café Relaxed atmosphere Spacious dorm
Review 29:On first sight we thought that we had a beautifully designed private room then we started noticing that there were no shelves or any closet space. Our stuff needed to stay in the suitcases on the floor. Because of tropical climate there was mildew on walls and ceiling. Wifi did not work in rooms only in lobby and restaurant.
Review 30:Nice setting and walking distance to the Bus Station and City Center. Breakfast in restaurant and coffee was good. (not incl) We received a free night after we stayed 4 days.
Review 31:BED BUGS - in dorm - covered in bed bug bites. Noise in morning's - washing machines next to dorm turned on at 7am. _ 2 woman staff there talking loudly at same time. Nopoint in ytrying to get sleep after 7. Reception very little English spoken-not mmuch help with travel advice.
Review 32:Good facilities - kitchen, computer, central location.
Review 33:Staff was really unmotivated and didn't move one meter or talk one word more than necessary. Had a lot of Buggs in my bed (thankfully no bedbugs). The WIFI is very slow and weak and works only in the lobby. Lobby is very dark and doesn't invite to spend time there. Next time I would choose another place to stay.
Review 34:Situated next to the city but still unnoisy and green. Kitchen Beautiful garden but without any places to enjoy it...
Review 35:We just stayed for 4 hours and they still charged the whole day, we just wanted a place to shower and rest until our bus departed.
Review 36:Rooms were nice, ours hada very clean private bathroom, bed ok, friendly staf.
Review 37:Hostel is still under construction. No garbage can anywhere. The hostel is in the same street of several stars hotels (no authenticity), people at the reception are not really friendly, no payment through credit card, only cash. Wifi is only available a the reception, wifi doesn't work really well and connexion is really low. No towels in the room, strong smell of a septic tank in the private room (4a). We woke up thanks to a cockroach during the night. It was a short night and we stayed one night instead of two. No full compensation possible due to these circonstances. Really expensive compared to the other hostels we have done during the same period.
Review 38:Close to the tourism street and city center, relatively close to the ruins of Palenque (through a long but nice walking path). Dorm seems way better than a private room. BBQ in the garden.
Review 39:wifi worked ok one day, the next day not at all I only stayed one night
Review 40:good food in restaurant Jade nice area, close to ADO busstation junglefeeling good price
Review 41:Not so clean environment, noisy in the morning cause works were going onat the main entrance, first night we had a simple double room, verysmall and too much simple, second night we took a room with bathroom, was under the kitchen of the cafè, also very noisy. Overall I think thatfor the money we paid we deserved a better place. It wouldn`t be so hardto improve the comfort I think.
Review 42:Nothing really
Review 43:No WiFi in rooms and WiFi in commun rooms heavily overloaded in evenings Cleanliness could be better
Review 44:Location: having a tropical garden and close to bus terminal
Review 45:- Wifi just not working and only in lobby
Review 46:+ Beatifull rooms in the middle of the jungle + Location. 5 minute walk to bus station + Comfortable common area with ping-pong table, board games, book exchange
Review 47:Unfortunately there was no padlocks in a locker room, so remember to bring your own (we didn't...). It would have also nice to have a mosquito net in a room as there are plenty.
Review 48:The hostel is well located near by bus station on a green area with nice restaurant. There's only a couple of blocks to the collectivos that takes you to the ruins. The room was very basic with a double bed, fan and shared toilet. There's a kitchen as well for quest use in case you feel like cooking yourself.
Review 49:WiFi is available only in the lobby (and not in the private room located in the othe building)
Review 50:The location is great (the La Canada area is much better than the town center). this is a great solution if you don't eant to go to one of the big hotels near the ruins. If you are interested in guided tours, you can book it directly at the hostel. Very close to the ADO bust station
Review 51:The whole hostel is covered in construction, both old and new. This means a lot of noise and not much nice to look at. The kitchen is also near the private rooms meaning that the chef was chopping near our heads.
Review 52:Leaving
Review 53:I stayed in a private room in which the large bed took up most of the space. The showers and toilets were not segregated by gender and only one shower had a door- the others only had curtains.
Review 54:This is the most beautiful hostels I have ever stayed in, in terms of the landscaping and the grounds. The hostel had very good facilities (lockers, internet, kitchen) and knowledgeable staff. The attached restaurant was excellent.
Review 55:no WiFi in the room; quite noisy in the morning with ongoing construction; bad odor in the bathroom with badly smelling water in the shower; staff wouldn't exchange money; attached cafe seemed to have exorbitant prices
Review 56:relatively good location about 5-10 minutes from the ADO bus station, room seemed clean, lockers for luggage storage; inexpensive single room rate
Review 57:Hi, The filthy staff discriminated against myself and made me leave due to them being filthy illuminati as all illuminati is filthy. There staff is a disease. Sincerely, Allah
Review 58:It would be nice with a different staff including management.
Review 59:The bed was like a jelly, not firm. At the time of the visit (mid November), the roads around the hostel were under construction, making it difficult to walk with a suitcase.
Review 60:The hostel has a terrace with a Café Jade, which serves generous portions of well prepared meal. They have tasty coffee, deserts, freshly made black tea. Location is good - 5 mins walk from the bus station. New bathroom facilities in our private room.
Review 61:The staff doesn't really speaks english, and if you are not good enough in spanish, you may have some misunderstandings.
Review 62:The location of the Hostel was pretty good, really close to the ADO bus station, and also close to several bars, restaurants and to the supermarket.
Review 63:Said bungalow was just a room, not really a bungalow... Jungle view was not looking at jungle. Small room, not very clean, cheap construction. Said wifi works in room but did not Shared bathroom was dirty
Review 64:There is only internet in the lobby, but the connection is very bad.
Review 65:The staff is really helpfull, the rooms are very cheap and are cleaned everyday. They have a parrot in the lobby that can sing Justin Bieber- Baby with the staff
Review 66:The hostel is within walking distance from the bus station and collectivos to the ruins. It's a short walk across the bridge into the main town where all the restaurants are situated. There is a large kitchen for self catering. All round good option.
Review 67:The hostel is fine for a few days if you want to visit the ruins. I liked it's location and amenities. However it was very dark and dingy and doesn't really have much of an atmosphere, also there were a lot of bugs in our room, I think wood louse from the beams!
Review 68:There is only one computer with internet available. There should be more plugs in the dorms.
Review 69:The place is very agreable and worth the money. It' s clean and well_kept
Review 70:The hostel overcharged all the tours you book with them and i have never seen a more disquisting refrigerator. The facilities in the kitchen is very limited.
Review 71:The room was Nice, Big and cold and they were cleares very nicely. The restaurant (amber bar/jade bar) served good and fairly cheap food
Review 72:bad internet connection
Review 73:great location, friendly, lovely bar
Review 74:Bad equipped kitchen
Review 75:400 Meters to The ADO
Review 76:Close to the ADO terminal. Cafe and Restaurant (with good prices) next door. Helpful staff.
Review 77:poor wifi
Review 78:nice garden, close the ADO station,
Review 79:- there was no wifi in the roos tough it`s told to be that way on booking web page - cold shower in my bedroom
Review 80:just location
Review 81:Rooms and bathroom weren't clean
Review 82:Very nice garden. Nice café next to it where u can have breakfast (50-70 pesos)
Review 83:Common areas, showers not very clean Wifi very slow
Review 84:Helpfull staff Good location near ADO terminal
Review 85:Small room but still cozy enough
Review 86:Cozy loby, huge kitchen, price, location near the bus station, clean bathroom
Review 87:facilities with no privacy
Review 88:location
Review 89:Only one bathroom for eight people, but it seemed to work out alright. At least two of the lockers couldn't be closed properly. Internet was only accessible in main building, not in rooms.
Review 90:Large lockers were available although most people didn't use them. The area was pleasant and quiet. I would stay again.
Review 91:They don't put in booking what really is. We booked a bedroom with all the services, and they didn't gave it to us, the staff is impolite and when you complain they act like they don't speak english. We where in another building, with not hot water plus the share bathrooms smell.
Review 92:Dorm and especially bathroom are oldish and could help refurbishment.
Review 93:Nice garden in lush vegetation, very pleasant and well maintained common areas. Bar/restaurant serves fairly good local dishes & drinks at a reasonable price.
Review 94:The room was extremely small and essentially was filled with the beds. There was no space to open the suitcase and the room only had a little window.
Review 95:Close to Palenque Ruins
Review 96:Staff were uninterested, wouldn't show us the bathrooms upon checkin, didn't tell us anything without our asking for it. It was not possible to lock shower, shower curtain is transparent, not safe for women. One toilet did not lock. The economy room is like a shed in the yard. Wifi only works in the lobby, on booking.com it said it would work in the rooms. Booking.com said toiletries were included: one towel for two people and a roll of toilet paper.
Review 97:Bed was clean and good Restaurant is excellent if a bit expensive
Review 98:Bungalow rooms did not have windows!! Often ran out of filter water.
Review 99:Surrounded by bush, close to the Main Street but quiet. A few different areas to relax.
Review 100:The main lounge looks nice, but after a while you realise it's actually quite unwelcoming, as it's so dark. They have a table-tennis table but no balls, which is the most bizarre thing I've heard for quite a while. Watch out for their on-site cafe and bar. We felt a little scammed by the cafe (coffee is "free refills" but you only get one refill, but doesn't say this on the menu, I got charged for my third cup). The bar tried to charge us for completely different drinks - either they gave us a different glass of wine to what we ordered or couldn't remember, and somehow they presumed it was the expensive one! The price of the beer had gone up between ordering and paying, which was strange. We just paid for what we'd ordered and they seemed fine with it, but left a very unpleasant taste and they made us feel as if we were in the wrong.
Review 101:Location is fine.
Review 102:We booked a cabin but this was not a cabin, it was a normal room. Bed was unconfortable and room was not very clean. No wifi in the rooms, only at the reception. You get a discount of 10% in their cafe if you stay at the hostel, but make sure you check you bills, they miscalculated twice. Not possible to pay with credit card.
Review 103:Good location, quiet but close to centre. Car parking in front of the hostel (more of less private).
Review 104:It's still a hostel so do not expect any luxurious design...
Review 105:To be honest we are a very snobbish couple so we were worried of booking a hostel but were pleasantly surprised... the private room was clean, great staff and overall incredibly low price for a room with air conditioning!
Review 106:Small, dark room underneath the restaurant's kitchen. Common areas also dark and unlit. Shared bathrooms are small and in poor condition. Hostel (and the town itself) is far away archeological site. There's nothing to see in the town of Palenque. Best option is to make the archeological zone into a day trip from another town in the area that may have some history or charm.
Review 107:The price.
Review 108:Water tasted of rust. Staff initially overcharged me, when I talked withthe manager it was fixed. Reception was supposed to be open from 6am,but this was not the case. This meant that when I was leaving for mytour at six am at day of checkout, I had been waiting for reception toput my luggage there, but they didn't open so I had to quickly putit back in the room. Staff are very unreliable.
Review 109:I did not get the room I booked (too small, no views and not tv), andthe manager did not care, in despite he got a room available next day,he said he could not commit to assign it to us, I had to wait until nextday to know if I could get it or not....obviously I left to anotherhotel, at least I got my money back
Review 110:Nothing
Review 111:The room, wrongfully advertized, was tiny and smelled of sulfur. It also butted up against a motorcycle workshop located in an adjacent courtyard, and repair noises began at 8:00AM.
Review 112:Nice, helpful staff.
Review 113:Beds very uncomfortable and only had a sheet for the blanket. But I would still stay there again because it was great!
Review 114:Great hostel, really felt like you were in the jungle! Good location with all bars and restaurants close by.
Review 115:Poor WiFi
Review 116:Location,
Review 117:Poor WiFi coverage.
Review 118:Good location, helpful staff, wonderful layout, good meals.
Review 119:excellent location with helpful staff
Review 120:Bathroom kinda dirty, but in that climate, hard to keep clean you know?
Review 121:Great place and appearance...
Review 122:Everything was perfect. It is charming eco hostel.
Review 123:after checking in,i moved out right away....just didnt feel comfortable there....
