Reviews for Hotel Xibalba

Review 1:If large groups reside in the hotel it's quite noisy in the morning (from 7 a.m.) as the breakfast area is in the same area as the rooms come out to.

Review 2:The environment and area the hotel is situated. Calm, however on walking distance of all the buzz and fuzz. Nice to sit down in front of hotel, good wifi.

Review 3:We asked a room with a view, and it was given us a room where we could smell evey kind of smell from the kitchen. A bit nauseating.

Review 4:Location. Fast Laundry service. Possibility of having a shower after check out, 40 pesos.

Review 5:No problems

Review 6:Staff were friendly and helpful especially as I had a very late check in due to flight and bus delays. Room was clean and apart from initial problems with the safety deposit box ( promptly repaired) I didn't see them much as my room was in an additional building. Staff very patient with my poor Spanish. Internet connection was good. I had breakfast each morning inhouse and my omelettes were good. It was fun to eat at an outside table on the cobbled street as the rain poured down. Easy to find location just across the road form the ADO bus station and collectivo departure point to Palenque. I enjoyed staying in La Canada. I enjoyed walking around nearby modern Palenque too searching for an umbrella. One tip. There is a supermarket just along the road from the ADO depot fantastic bakery section, especially if you want to take a picnic to Palenque or want snacks for the bus.

Review 7:Wifi was very flaky. Browsing was interrupted every few minutes (DNS Issues). This seems to be a general issue across southern Mexico, so I don´t think the hotel is to blame.

Review 8:Everything was perfect. A minute´s walk from the ADO bus station. Several bars and coffee shops around. It is is located in the only forested area in town, so it feels cooler and freshers than the rest of Palenque. We were in room 29 on the top floor and it was very quiet and relaxing all day long. The food at the restaurant was really good. The lady who cleaned the room every day (Rebeca) created real art with towels and rose petals.

Review 9:The safe in our room didn't work BUT we were offered a different room with an apology. We chose to stay in the room because it had a window to the street

Review 10:A very nice well kept hotel. One block from the new ADO bus terminal and collectivo stop to the ruins. Good price for the room hot shower and quiet location. The main town and square is a short walk away. Breakfast was great.

Review 11:Nothing.

Review 12:Convenient, quiet location. Clean throughout. Nice bed. Friendly, helpful staff. (Yes, the staff had limited English, but I don't put that in the negative comments as it should be expexted that they may not speak English; it isn't their language! If you don't like having problems communicating with people in countries other than your own, then learn some of their language! )

Review 13:Large comfortable room, good shower. Nice area close to some restaurants. Staff were very helpful - we had had our bags broken into by the bus driver from Mexica tours whilst spending the afternoon at palenque ruins, the staff helped us call the company and explain what had happened because our Spanish was very limited. They called them several times for us. We never did get the stolen money back or an apology from Mexica tours, but the hotel did everything they could to help.

Review 14:- wifi did not work well outside of the lobby

Review 15:- perfect location if you just need a spot to sleep in order to explore the ruins, the bus station is only 5 min away - functional, relatively clean and friendly staff - located in a neighbourhood with many restaurants and bars - not expensive

Review 16:This is almost the same price as other hotels on the street who have a pool which is a welcome relief in the heat. The problem I had was the noise. It seems to be a popular hotel with large groups who take over the hotel calling out to each other between floors and down the hall constantly running in and out each other's rooms slamming their doors constantly. The noise doesn't stop until after 1 am and then around 5am it starts again as people leave for their tours. Staff are equally noisy with the constant clatter of dishes and conversations in the restaurant. The design of the hotel tends to amplify the noise as there are no soft furnishings to absorb it. There is no glass in the bathroom window and no escape from the noise. I hardly slept while I was here.

Review 17:This is a handy hotel close to the bus station so you don't need a taxi. The staff are polite. The room is a decent size. There are other restaurants nearby. It is clean. The tv and wifi worked well

Review 18:The safe in our room wasn't working but we had no trouble with security.

Review 19:Located two minutes walk from the ADO bus station and in the hotel area so a few restaurants very close by. Supermarket with ATM also only a short walk away. Easy to book tours and onward travel in the shop next door.

Review 20:Wifi was not reliable in the third floor. Open vents from room to hallway let ac out and noise in.

Review 21:Location.. if your a "tourist" you'll like it. If you dont mind walking across the bridge where very few tourist go.. good location.

Review 22:Book your tours 2 doors down the street and not at the hotel, you will save 20%. The lady at the reception is very unfriendly. Arrived at 7am and were hoping to check in earlier as 2pm if possible. However eventhough 2 groups departed at 7am it was not possible to check in earlier, we even offered to pay extra. Wifi is only good at the reception, not in rooms.

Review 23:Good location, close to bus station, piramides and city center.

Review 24:The hotel is a bit dated and the rooms feel quite damp. We stayed only one night so it was fine for a short stay.

Review 25:The hotel is in a great location, opposite the ADO bus station. Its also easy to get a taxi or collectivo to the ruins from here.

Review 26:a little bit of renovation noise

Review 27:stored our bags for free when while we did an overnight tour, returned an item to us from their lost & found when we returned from our tour, shower had excellent water pressure, room was tidy, bed comfortable

Review 28:The wifi could be better. But it's the general case in all hotels we stayed in during our Mexican trip. This one was actually the best.

Review 29:The hotel staff were very professional, friendly, and helpful. They offered us early checkin when we arrived early during the day, and provided luggage storage when we leave late in the night. The location is very convenient, about 200 m from the ADO bus station, and in walking distance to the main streets of town, where a lot of eating and shopping options are available. Yet the hotel itself is in a quiet hotel neighborhood. The cleaning lady made a pair of beautiful swans in a heart shape by towels, which was very sweet.

Review 30:The hotel is very well located, in one of the most beautiful roads of Palenque. The room was very spacey, had safe and wifi worked pretty well. However, be aware of street noise. There seems to be some kind of sound-isolation problem with some rooms; although we were given a room with a window to an inside corridor, we could hear the street noise and if we were sleeping at the street. Additionally, although there was no humidity smell, the linen-bed seemed to be wet and the next morning even our clothes felt like been humid.

Review 31:No Pool. No breakfast/ Dinner at the hotel.

Review 32:The City is Not so nice but the hotel is in a really Good Location. There are two Nice Bars and Restaurants Directory on the street with Fine Food.

Review 33:Wifi has VERY bad signal, it was so weak since our room on the end of the hallway, but later on we found out you can reach it only in the lobby Safecase is in the bathroom Bed was really small one for two - you need a lot of love :))

Review 34:Location is great - close to ADO terminal and to buses going to Palenque ruins too Restaurant just across the street is nice City center is very walkable Price was cheap - but don't expect too much - everything is old and a little bit overused, but clean...

Review 35:Works on the street in the morning.

Review 36:Good location, near by ADO station and station of colectivos to the ruins and travel agency to the Misol Ha and Agua Azul. Very good restaurant in the neighbourhood.

Review 37:We had a big room with nice, big beds. Airco worked well. Shower was nice. Wifi was ok. Hotel is very close to the ADO bus station. A big supermarket (with ATM) is around the corner.

Review 38:It's SO noisy and not because people are being disruptive but because for some reason you can hear every single little thing in your room that goes on in the hotel. The rooms have quite large vents in them that just have mosquito nets so that's probably why. There are a great deal of works going on outside the building too which didn't help. Rooms do smell of damp the first night our towels were all frayed and old, luckily we got given newer ones the next day. The cable TV doesn't work at all.

Review 39:The mattresses are comfortable, you get free small water bottles each day and your room gets cleaned (not always fully) and towels changed every day. Hairdryers are included as our safety deposit boxes for free. Good coffee in the cafeteria.

Review 40:The TV was so fuzzy we couldn't see the image. We didn't bother telling anyone as we were only there for a night. The wifi was also terrible. Not sure if it's like that all over the hotel (I understand we are in a remote area) but we were in room 29 which seemed to have bad reception for tv and bad wifi connection.

Review 41:The staff were lovely, the rooms spacious, nice and clean. The location is perfect. 2 mins down the road from the ADO bus station which is where you also catch the collectivo to the ruins.

Review 42:Nice clean room Good bed. Hot water WiFi. Breakfast good for the money. Can book reasonable priced tours via hotel. Best point was that I forgot a plastic bag with a camera and some other things a d half an hour later a member of staff had tracked me down to one of isthe bus stations to give it time. I was very greatful for their efforts.

Review 43:A lot of road works currently, but that will pass.

Review 44:The bed was comfy, nice pillows. The shoer was nice and hot, the room spacious. Close to bus station, which is excellent.

Review 45:Road in front of the hotel is beeing build. We were not in the room during the day so did not realy boder us.

Review 46:Near the central bus station - only 2 min. of walking. Wild garden on the back of the hotel - we saw a few wild animals :) One big legwan :) Great water presure - one of the best in Mexico.

Review 47:Unfortunately during our stay the were some works in progress in the road in front of the hotel and the noise from them was a bother.

Review 48:Location 2 min walking from ADO bus station 5 min walking from the city center In a nice are sourrended by vegetation

Review 49:-the grumpy receptionist/owner (?) -food at the Café -because of the moody receptionist we did not hang out at the terrace

Review 50:-the lovely wooden terrace furniture -the price was okay for Palenque -simple and clean -location was okay even if it wasn't very central, it is a small town

Review 51:Convenient location for those who arrive by bus, being a short walk from the station, which is also the same street where you can get a cheap Combi to get you to the ruins. There are also a few restaurants within a short walk from the hotel. A good choice is for our lovely visit to the ruins.

Review 52:staff did not speak english, the bathroom's window would not close so we were forced to shut it off from the rest of the room when the AC was on and it was incredibly hot and sticky whenever we had to shower or use the bathroom, Wifi hardly worked in the rooms

Review 53:close to restaurants and a short drive from the Palenque ruins, AC in the rooms

Review 54:No condiments

Review 55:Location Local food options

Review 56:nothing

Review 57:Nice room with comfy bed and best hot shower in Mexico!

Review 58:No one thing.. We enjoyed it all and each time I return I choose to stay at the Xibalba.

Review 59:Friendly helpful staff

Review 60:Staff were mostly unfriendly.

Review 61:Really nice room, very clean with nice comfy bed and natural light.

Review 62:The bed was very comfortable

Review 63:There were stain marks on the pillowcase and bedsheet.

Review 64:Staff was nice, allowed us to store our leftover food in their fridge.

Review 65:The room was bright and attractive with a rustic feel. The common areas were pleasantly arranged. We had a good breakfast made to order.

Review 66:Great location, clean room with air conditioning. Would stay here again.

Review 67:niente di particolare da rilevare

Review 68:Posizione e contesto intorno

Review 69:Not overly warm staff however they were attentive. Not very sound proof, able to hear other guests.

Review 70:Location, price, clean and secure.

Review 71:Great location, people were very warm and cordial, cleanliness was awesome.

Review 72:Close to bus depot, lovely location, walk to town. Fun different towel designs everyday.

Review 73:It was wonderful experience

Review 74:Wonderful staff. I felt safe and secure and roamed all around the beautiful area lined with old growth trees and vines.

Review 75:Will definitely be coming back here. Friendly staff, very clean rooms and great location. They even let us borrow umbrellas when it started raining.

Review 76:Old drapes, towels, ... Open access to room from strert

Review 77:Restaurant food nothing special, better choices within 50metres

Review 78:Good value for money Comfortable and clean Able to store bags after checkout

Review 79:The room had two open little window holes? Why?

Review 80:Location is beter than center location Clean room Wifi Parking

Review 81:Small rooms.

Review 82:Location was great. Near the ADO bus station, and next to the best restaurant in town. Room was clean. Bathroom was nice and clean.

Review 83:All good. Hotel is a bit noisy but I was there the week of Christmas so to be expected

Review 84:Location is great

Review 85:nice staff nice location good restaurants next door

Review 86:Roads works colse to the hotel

Review 87:Very close to the new Ado station, in the nice area La Canada

Review 88:-Good location -Good value for money

Review 89:Some people complained about poor wifi in their rooms. The breakfast was OK but not great.

Review 90:It was pretty good. Excellent aircon and shower, good wifi, nice mattress and pillows, good shower. Close to bus stop for the ruins, plenty of life in surrounding hotels.

Review 91:Nothing, would stay here again.

Review 92:Decent location for getting to the ruins. Close to the ADO bus station. In a quiet area just away from the main part of town, but walkable to bats, restaurants and shops in about 5 minutes.

Review 93:We were two families traveling together. One of us was in the older part of the hotel, the other in the newer. We had to go out of the hotel and walk down the street to go from room to room.

Review 94:It was very clean.

Review 95:Wifi slow. Air con noisy. None of the staff speak English - take your phrase book.

Review 96:The hotel is off the main road in a quiet peaceful leafy location. It is very close to several good restaurants. Facilities basic but good. Couldn't fault the cleanliness. They let us book the room for 1/2 day for evening coach. Would use it again.

Review 97:the room is small and a little outdated, not super clean (we had some ants repeatedly in the bathroom)

Review 98:located 5 minutes from the bus terminal, great two restaurants near the hotel (across and adjacent), good air condition in the room, price was good.

Review 99:Didn't like only breakfast Service to slow

Review 100:Location is very good , clean , quiet ; very good price the girl in front desk ( afternoon) is very friendly and give to us good tips about deferents places to go

Review 101:Breakfast, the food on the menu in general: expensive for what it is. Dining chairs are nice but not very comfortable.

Review 102:Like the bed, the cleanliness of the room, the location in the Cañada district and finally my room was at the back of the hotel wich was very quiet.

Review 103:The Wi-Fi was weak (probably due to the distant location fo the room from the main hall), the staff was nice and helpful but not so friendly as we found in other hotels during our stay.

Review 104:The hotel is situated in the cañada area of Palenque, about 10 minutes walking from the city center, completely surrounded by trees and vegetation and with a lot of amenities (bar, restaurants etc.). The room was spacious with 2 queen size beds, TV, A/C and in general it was quite clean and comfortable. The bathroom was spacious and nice.

Review 105:The room was on the small side with nowhere to put our cases, and the bed, whilst comfortable, was only a double. I believe this room would have been ok for single but too small for 2 adults

Review 106:Location, in fairly quiet street ; very accommodating with our request for quiet room. We were at back of building. Numerous restaurants within short stroll of hotel. Close to ADO bus station.

Review 107:Restaurant service not available in evening. Not a dislike, but you need to be able to speak/understand basic Spanish as staff have little command of English

Review 108:Great location to explore the area. Clean and comfortable short stay hotel

Review 109:A really nice place with absolutely helpful and honest personal. When my friend forgot her credit cards in the room they kept everything safe until we returned.

Review 110:Nothing

Review 111:Comfy beds, bright spacious room, very quiet location yet easy walk to town and bus station. Very impressive Mayan reproductions around hotel. Good value

Review 112:Location in the Le Canada area which is quieter and greener than downtown. Good restaurants nearby and many others in town, which is a manageable walk. Close to bus station. We took a cab on arrival but walked to the bus station when departing.

Review 113:Between people getting back late from bars and others getting up early for trips you might just manage some sleep.

Review 114:The hotel is conveniently placed for access to the town.

Review 115:In description of hotel was written that wifi is in all rooms. Unfortunately its not true, the wifi was working in lobby only. Any of the staff wasn't able to speak at least few words in english. We didnt expect that everybody will speak english. But at least one person per hotel will be helpful.

Review 116:It was the area where were a lot of hotels. It was absolutely safe and close to few restaurants. Hotel was very clean, they exchanged our room when we found ants without problem. Shower was working normally. You get new towels and other stuff every day.

Review 117:The staff was very helpful and friendly. The rooms were very nice and our corner room looked out over the local trees and flowers......Great breakfast in the morning. Terrific coffee. Easy to walk to town.

Review 118:I liked the location, surrounded by little cafes and restaurants. Easy walk to the collectivos to head out to the ruins, easy walk to the bus station.

Review 119:For the money it could have included a breakfast, there is a small restaurant in the hotel lobby. The breakfast there was very big but also a lit pricey.

Review 120:Great location, close to the city center and very clean big rooms.

Review 121:This is an outstanding hotel, value for the money, very clean and very helpful staff with tours we extended our stay because it was just so nice, the restaurant next door was awesome

Review 122:It would be better if staff would speak a bit more English for such a touristy place. Hot water is not always available.

Review 123:Nice location with few good restaurants around and relatively close to the ruins while still inside the town.

Review 124:Soft, lumpy mattress which neither mattress cover nor sheets fitted No bedside light Hot water is solar based so its availability is intermittent Service at breakfast very slow

Review 125:Close to bus station in a quiet leafy area

Review 126:Just the bed was a small double.everything else was great.

Review 127:Very clean and a great location to town.if you have transport of your own its very easy to get to the ruins and aluxes wildlife park.bus station is a 15minute walk and there are restaurants just around the corner and coffee shop.

Review 128:Everything was fine.

Review 129:Hotel Xibalba is located in a quiet, attractive part of Palenque. It is within walking distance of the center of town, the main bus station, and the transportation services for visiting the Mayan ruins of Palenque, the main attraction in the area.
