Reviews for Grand Hotel Opduin

Review 1:We felt very much at home in this hotel with its relaxed atmosphere and excellent location close to the beach. The staff could not have been more helpful. Even our dog was made very welcome! A hotel we would definitely return to ...

Review 2:We booked a family suite for a lot of money and had to pay for an extra child bed... we were with 3 people and the room a double bed and a big bedcouch and they forced us to pay for an extra bed... Weird.

Review 3:Pool - clean

Review 4:Maybe they could provide a little more information in the rooms about spa services in English language. I would have liked to have booked services but was daunted by the language barrier.

Review 5:What a great hotel. Close to 28 bus line, with bus stop right out front. Walk to beach, forest trail and Ecomare. Excellent food from room service, delicious breakfast with good selection, nice coffee/tea maker in room. Lovely staff who treated me (and my lack of Dutch language skills) kindly. Clean room and great bathtub!

Review 6:nothing, except the (over)posh atmosphere in the restaurant, the food being not that extraordinary.

Review 7:The location near the north sea (100 m), the spa (sauna and pool), the friendly and helpful staff, good access with public transport.

Review 8:For a four star rating "Grand" hotel (and according to the high price) you can absolutely expect much more. The room wasn't clean (Tiny broken glass, frayed towels, hair), few extras (open and used shampoo, ...). It is not a bad hotel at all but it does absolutely not correspond to the indicated class. Sorry!

Review 9:Great Place and Location inmidst the dunes in Nationalpark in Amsterdam! Quiteness!

Review 10:Great place for families with young children. Play room, pool with kid space, baby phone service and understanding restaurant staff. It rained the whole time we were in Texel and didn't stop us from having fun inside the hotel.

Review 11:The Grand Hotel Opduin is not, repeat, not a four star hotel . . .barely three star in my opinion. No airconditioning or cross ventilationin the rooms! Hot & stuffy in room all night. Couldn't find anystaff in hotel to ask about fan at 2am. Finally found them but no fans.No ice in entire hotel. I was told that the ice machine (one?) wasbroken. So instead of ice we were given an ice bucket of cold water.Hey, they tried. The staff is working with one hand tied behind theirback due to the hotel's shortcomings. Pool was closed. No notice atbooking.com.

Review 12:Arrangement for bicycles with vendor several hundred meters away.Friendly staff and mod attempted to make amends for shortcomings of thishotel property and the facilities with a price concession at checkout.Location is a relatively short walk to the beach.

Review 13:The Hotel could do with some investment in new drapes and room upholstery. Room 232 was smelly and looked tired. Furniture is stained from moistured things (clothes?) and does not smell fresh (the sofa), the bathroom was OK.

Review 14:Wifi is free and accesible everywhere Wellness treatments and massage are very good. Location close to the Dunes and view is excellent. Spatious dinery and breakfast area with very nice designed furniture.

Review 15:The staff couldn't tell us how to go to the lighthouse. And we ended up going to the Visitor Center to find out that it was only 20 minutes away from the hotel. So we lost almost 3 hours. Hotel staff should know how to navigate the place.

Review 16:The hotel in general, outstanding. Great breakfast.

Review 17:Room was okay, nothing special. Shocked breakfast was €18 per person! We skipped it & had a late lunch instead. Might be the nicest hotel in the area but not comparable to other luxury hotels around Europe.

Review 18:We thought the location wss great. Walking distance from the beach & town. Staff was friendly. Its a small quiet area with mainly locals & Germans there, a little hidden from tourists. The beach is beautiful, great place to watch the sunset.

Review 19:As we booked the superior junior suite we were expecting a bit of luxury. Unfortunately we were disappointed due to the outdated room, no standard miniature bar in the room (they do provide this on request) the outdated bathroom with old hairdryer. Would come back however we won't stay in this room for that price.

Review 20:Friendly staff, location and view of the room, many facilities like a pool, sauna, wellness, restaurant and big terrace

Review 21:Facilities and furniture need to be refurbished. The breakfast choice is limited and definitely overpriced given what it is offered. We had to wait quite a bit to get our coffees. The gym has 4 machines in a tiny space. WiFi did not work for my phone - the connection was often reset.

Review 22:Beds were extremely comfortable and the position right on the dunes is excellent. The swimming pool is nice for a break and have fun (too small for real swimming)

Review 23:Room was cold even though temperature was set at maximum. Decor was verydated. Out of date. No mini bar in room, no refrigerator in room, nobottle opener in room, no in house movies, no room service. When Icalled for this I was told to come down to reception to get things. WhenI arrived my booked room with a view did not have a key and the keycould not be fixed as the machine was broken so I was moved to a roomover the parking lot. I was told I wouldn't notice but that was allI noticed. I was also disturbed with all the noise form the parking lotconstantly. I was also placed in a room in between families who wereconstantly moving between room and knocking and calling for each thereat all hours. The children were mostly playing int he hall outside myroom, running and screaming so as I could not even hear the televisionwithout turning it up. I could have been placed in a better spot withother couples etc around me and I would have had a more peaceful stay. The staff did not speak much english at all and for a 4 - 5 star hotel Ifeel this is unacceptable. I booked a massage and was told they wouldlet me know and they didn'T. The massage was less that the 55minutes I paid for and was very average with the therapist not evenasking how the pressure was or was I ok. For 75 euros this is alsounacceptable.

Review 24:Loved the space in the room. Loved the location the hotel.

Review 25:I should have really specified the top floor room with the sea view, but the walk on the beach with my dog was lovely. Nothing I disliked at all.

Review 26:Welcoming staff, easy parking after a fabulous drive, location on the dunes, lovely calm deco, delicious food with local ingredients, art on the walls, and the gallery in town which opened earlier especially for me.

Review 27:We took a junior suite because we travelled with our 2 babes. The room is big all right, but it is in fact only a big room, with no separate living area...so when kids went to sleep... we also had to go to sleep.

Review 28:Indoor pool and games room was perfect for our little ones. Could not really have asked more. Room was big. Everything was spotless clean, they arranged the bike rental... We will go back. The lack of variety at breakfast buffet was a bit disappointing, specially given the price. But the quality of the products was really really good so it made up for that.

Review 29:Nothing

Review 30:Made the stay very pleasant. Very helpful and friendly staff

Review 31:Very dog-friendly hotel without being obvious to other guests. Excellent food especially the Texel lamb.

Review 32:None

Review 33:Location

Review 34:Wonderful experience overall! We highly recommend!

Review 35:Pool and spa were closed for refurb - and obviously you did not tell me thqat when I booked.

Review 36:Hardly to find any minors. If one it would be the pillows, to hard.

Review 37:Beatifull lication, very friendly staff.

Review 38:Bathroom

Review 39:Position, atmosphare

Review 40:Wi-Fi Free but unsecured

Review 41:Very nice Hotel with great localisation on the island. Helpful crew and easy acces to the beach.

Review 42:Modern and nice hotel.

Review 43:Too many people are discovering this gem !!

Review 44:The pets policy, the comfort, the New Years party, the food, in short everything

Review 45:Beach is 10min walk. No fridge in the room.

Review 46:Clean rooms and hotel. Quiet location.

Review 47:Early check-out time on Sunday

Review 48:Breakfast

Review 49:The hotel and furnishings are tired and need a refurb. It was too expensive for it's type.

Review 50:Lovely location.

Review 51:No information in English, just German and Dutch.

Review 52:Noisy fan on the room, no airconditioning, rooms too warm, nobody of the group could sleep. Gyma too small and no weights. It cannot be named a gym, it is useless.

Review 53:Close to the sea. Nice bar, Nice pool

Review 54:View of the room overlooked the car park.

Review 55:The staff were so friendly and the food was very good, one of the best meals we've had in the Netherlands.

Review 56:High class comfort hotel with an instant relax factor through great welness area and location next to the beach. We were welcomed by approachable and friendly staff. Recommend a dinner in this hotel - delicious.

Review 57:Perhaps some more amenities would have been expected of a 4-star hotel.

Review 58:Outstanding breakfast and interior design - really enjoyable stay. Great spa with private area.

Review 59:I liked everything about this hotel

Review 60:Great location, well run, efficient friendly hotel. Good sports facilities , a swimming pool, and health spa available - I can safely say one of the best winter holidays I have had. Their policy towards dogs and dog owners is first class. The beach is on your doorstep and there were numerous cafes and restaurants on the beach all serving reasonable food and drink at reasonable prices. Town centre is a reasonable walk with good shops and services - all in all highly recommended

Review 61:bit pricy for this time of the year

Review 62:Located in the dunes; great breakfast; nice pool; great selection of magazines and newspapers; Lazy Sunday deal is great.

Review 63:The specials at dinner were several times the price, if you didn't have an arrangement(42. E vs. 17.E), for the main dish. We also could not understand the reservation system. There seemed to be an overflow room. We saw people eating there, but on a night we did not have a reservation, we could not eat at the restaurant. We wondered why, but also understand that it was our responsibility to reserve.

Review 64:The staff were very professional. It was the best vacation we have had with our dog. The town and hotel welcomed him. There was a dog dish, treat and dog bed waiting when we arrived. And, we could get to the beach and walking trails (dunes and forest) right outside the hotel. The restaurant and bar were really cozy and peaceful. The rooms were spacious. Great to have a nespresso machine.

Review 65:Bathrooms some mildew (not bad), but something you would not expect for this kind of hotel. A little pricy.

Review 66:Close to the Beach, nice facilities and fantastic Breakfast

Review 67:Polite and cheerful staff who went just that extra mile to make you feelspecial. A wonderful place with light airy rooms , a real breath offresh air.

Review 68:The only thing I was not too keen on was the price of the breakfast. Although very good I thought it a little expensive at 21 Euros per person so this cost can run up the bill extensively.

Review 69:Stayed for 4 days over the New Year. 4* Hotel which is totally dog friendly. Even our dog had a welcome letter on his bed which the Hotel provided. We had been upgraded to a master suite which was superb. Decoration wise everything looked new and fresh. Staff very friendly and situation was perfect with a dog. Woods on one side and sand dunes down to he beach on the other side. Would recommend highly and will stay there again.

Review 70:This is a somewhat worn hotel, and it never quite felt like the cleaningstaff was quite up to the challenge. The use of lots of thin carpetingin the midst of a sandy environment contributes to the unease that thehotel is not as clean as it could be. Everything--furnishings,carpeting, bath fixtures, built-ins--needs replacement or updating. There are other places to stay on the island that are better and oftenfor less. The village of De Koog is the least charming on the island--commercial and honky tonk.

Review 71:Best breakfast I've ever had in Holland, and I've had many. About asclose as you can get to the beach and be in a hotel (though still ahike!). Most rooms have good views but you should ask for that--and askfor the top floor. Parking was free. There was an iron and an ironingboard in the room. There was a tub as well as shower. The toilet was notcondemned to a small separate closet as in most Dutch hotels.

Review 72:Our room was on the first floor facing the car park. The lack of view was a disappointment in such a lovely area. Ask for a room facing the sea or dunes, or at least a room on a higher floor to take advantage of the stunning vistas.

Review 73:Fabulous location on the dunes, quiet and peaceful setting, beautifully decorated, plenty quiet corners to relax in, comfortable, great bathrooms, close to lovely beach and walking trails.

Review 74:This was the only place we stayed in two weeks in the Netherlands that didn't include breakfast. At this price point (relatively expensive) asking another nearly 18 euros each for breakfast seemed excessive. (we didn't partake) Also, two days of breakfast was included on our bill even though we did not eat it on the first morning and were actually checking out before it was served on the second morning. This was rectified, of course but, still, check your bill carefully.

Review 75:Great location next to the dunes and a short walk to the beach, which was cold and very windy but beautiful. We had a top floor suite with a view of the dunes and ocean and it was lovely. Staff was friendly, warm and professional. Lots of inviting spots to hang out in the hotel and a range of restaurants. The general environment spoke of a relaxing holiday and we really enjoyed our stay.

Review 76:Very friendly and attentive staff, great customer service, fantastic location and amenities. Excellent hotel for dog owners.

Review 89:Nice and clean, very nice pool area.

Review 90:Food quality not as high as expected from the menu

Review 91:Beautysalon, spacious room (suite)

Review 92:The rooms need definitively some upgrading since all is in 90's style
