Reviews for Chan-Kah Resort Village
Review 1:breakfast very limited and uninspiring internet variable - be sure to get all six codes for different networks and be prepared to keep switching!
Review 2:brilliant jungle location, lovely swimming pool, friendly large rodent creatures, monkeys in the trees, very pleasant and clean room with individual balcony, 1km from archeological zone/national park
Review 3:Terrible restaurant, looks nice but doesn't taste good at all, recommend the spaghetti a la bologñesa, only dish that is enjoyable. Way too high prices, considering the taste and that you're in Mexico. Would suggest everybody staying here to take the colectivo to the town and look for a restaurant there.. Spa is crazy overpriced!!
Review 4:Nice Cabañas, beautiful jungle surrounding, Room-Service
Review 5:For a resort like this I would expect the pool bar to be staffed more frequently. in the afternoon we had to look for a waiter toa ttend us at the pool. The quality of the food in the restaurant was not on the same level as the rest of the resort
Review 6:The surroundings and swimming pool were excellent
Review 7:Poor service and treatment by management. No proper showers for late check-out. Late check-out very overpriced. Food was overpriced for the quality and water was very expensive. Didn't order us the taxi we requested so we could have missed our onwards bus connection.
Review 8:The pool is beautiful and being surrounded by jungle was amazing. Restaurant staff were helpful and friendly.
Review 9:The staff was not very helpful when I asked about how to get around town or how to get a bus or plane to leave Palenque. I was told it was not there job to have information or tell me how to get information.
Review 10:The hotel grounds are striking. The cabins were spacious, well light and private. Each cabin had its own little front porch
Review 11:You must pre-pay for all nights you are staying upon check-in. Wi-fi is almost nonexistent. If the signal is working the passwords aren't. Water is promised but not provided unless you call reception over and over again. Pool water cloudy. Shampoo but no conditioner. Booking.com clients are given rooms farther away from wi-fi areas than local travel agent clients. Room decor needs a serious upgrade.
Review 12:Good location. Beautiful grounds. Some of the staff are excellent. Beds are comfortable. Air conditioning works well.
Review 13:Some walking between rooms and facilities
Review 14:On route to the antiquities Wonderful gardens Good Bungalow style rooms which were spacious and well set out.
Review 15:in Palenque, you have to eat in your hotel [barely any option outside] - and food in this hotel is pricey and average at best [almost every meal i had to verify the check and found mistakes] Watch out! with poor service Internet does not work [wifi only in restaurant and pool area, as advertised: band witch probably too limited, you can barely browse the internet, and most of the time you cannot even access emails.
Review 16:pool! best in the area according to our guide [but it is supposed to be opened 10 to 10: instead of cleaning it outside of these hours, they cleaned the main one at 10am and it was closed for 3 hours!!!] bungalow concept, size of the room and the bathroom
Review 17:The pool was closed for cleaning while we were there which was disappointing. Also, the restaurant is quite expensive for the quality of food, but I suppose you are paying for convenience. The resort has WiFi but it only works in common areas like the restaurant and at reception. The complimentary water they give you is very small. We ended up buying a couple of gallons of purified water from the Oxxo in town to bring with us to the Archaeological Zone.
Review 18:The resort is beautiful and conveniently located near the Palenque Archaeological Zone. The staff members are incredibly friendly and attentive. The walking paths on the grounds are great, the highlight in my opinion being the huge Ceiba tree, it is incredible!
Review 19:Wifi only accessible in restaurant area.
Review 20:Great jungle location. Handy bus service to Palenque ruins. Beatifully landscaped pool. Helpful management.
Review 21:No mini fridge in rooms Service was geared toward groups and seemed lax
Review 22:location is close driving distance to ruins. The setting is very jungly with nice bungalows that have AC, ceiling fan, plenty of windows with screens and curtains.
Review 23:WiFi inconsistent and staff needs to speak more English. As the airport opens up, the staff will realize this.
Review 24:Separate cabanas with own decks and lovely pool. Clean
Review 25:Restaurant is really bad. Just the Guacamole is ok (not a big deal in Mexico ;)).
Review 26:Veranda, big rooms, a bit of jungle, relaxing, pool, location to visit the national park.
Review 27:Room is cold and uncomfortable. Bed is hard and staff do not seem very friendly or helpful. Meals at restaurant were average qualilty, and very expensive. No coffee available except at the restaurant for meals. Must have a car.
Review 28:Beautiful grounds and setting
Review 29:Lovely resort with easy access to ruins via colectivos. Ricardo from front office was great helping me book day tours. Really enjoyed listening to the sounds of the jungle at night!
Review 30:Credit card voucher system for restaurant and bar purchaces is kinda goofy, its easier to just pay as you go.
Review 31:The resort encompasses quite a large area that is well landscaped and maintained. Casitas have giant covered decks that allow you to take it all in during any weather. Attractive yet simple layout really works. Both pools are amazing.
Review 32:For a 4 star hotel you would expect at least someone at the reception to speak english. Even waiters english was better than the receptionists'.
Review 33:location in the jungle and the close distance to the Mayan Tempel as well as to the Agua Azul. Everything is kept very clean and you feel safe there.
Review 34:The restaurant is over priced and mediocre in food.
Review 35:Beaautiful environs and the pool is gorgeous! Comfortable room, good lighting was a plus for reading in bed. .
Review 36:Nothing really!
Review 37:That's what they claimed on their brochure and they were right! Our well-appointed bungalow was set in the Palenque jungle, and had a private terrace overlooking a babbling brook. The howler monkeys were literally in the trees right outside our room!? The food and convenient room service were excellent! Best gulf shrimp we've had! This place is so romantic. Classy but funky. The perfect blend. Besides it's five minutes from the entrance to Palenque! I would recommend this place to everyone!
Review 38:Only one receptionist was very friendly, helpful and spoke English! Rest partly unfriendly! The food in the restaurant on site was not phenominal but there are plenty others just a taxi ride away...
Review 39:Quiet location in the national parc area, nice setting with pools, we had a great time and would choose it again!
Review 40:Internet pretty slow, as is the time takedn to get the bill in the restaurant. Food prices rather high for the area but you can at least get healthy food.
Review 41:The jungle-like location, pool with area for real swimming (almost 25m) as well as large liesure area.
Review 42:Service by the personnel could have been better at times. The restaurant isn't very good for lunch and dinner. (For breakfast it's good enough.) Luckily there's a great restaurant (Don Mucho's) 5 minutes away by taxi. At times there was loads of insects in our bathroom, although when requested someone came to remove them. (They should have checked the room better on beforehand.)
Review 43:Nice pool, nice surroundings. Generally comforable cottage.
Review 44:Beds very hard. Pool could have been cleaner and a little bit more attention to landscape in a few areas of the resort.
Review 45:Room decor, rock/ cement flooring through out, made for the rooms decor and cleanliness.
Review 46:The beds were too small (full size) s/be queen.beds were Not confortable
Review 47:Staff very friendly and helpful.
Review 48:Reception staff slow and not that impressive, just ok. Could never get wifi the pool is dirty
Review 49:the setting is amazing.
Review 50:Really bad food Wifi connection unstable
Review 51:Rooms were good Good location Great swimming pool
Review 52:Close to the ruins, nice pool, big rooms
Review 53:No Wi-Fi in our cabin #45 And the towels are really worn out need new .
Review 54:Location
Review 55:a smell of gas from the boiler
Review 56:the cleanliness and the little house
Review 57:Wisi was very bad
Review 58:Nice setting
Review 59:box lunch I ordered had a rotten egg in it.
Review 60:clean and comfortable
Review 61:Make sure your daily exchange rate is correct first thing in the am
Review 62:The bed was very comfortable, beautiful courtyard area.
Review 63:Restaurant service was poor. Waited for 15 minutes when restaurant was empty.
Review 64:Jungle setting
Review 65:bungalow and pool were very nice staff was friendly
Review 66:Hotel seems more concerned with guests taking a/c control and towels than establishing our needs.
Review 67:Perfect location for ruins at palenque
Review 68:No Wi-Fi in the rooms and in the common areas it is so slow that it might as well not exist.
Review 69:beds toó hard. Pool needs more cleaning
Review 70:Nice rooms
Review 71:Great location close to the Palenque ruins. Great Eco resort with very conscious staff and management. Wonderful restaurant and great pool!
Review 72:Rooms are dated. Setting is a little depressing as it seems like a 1950s holiday camp for mid-range European package tourists.
Review 73:Restaurant service until 11PM - friendly and not bad for a hotel that seems like it is geared towards mid-range European package tourists. Pool is a bit rundown but still usable and quite dramatic setting.
Review 74:Opinions alone and facts alone - the "Room facilities" inBooking indicate that rooms have Safety box, while in reality they do**not**! And this was one of the main reasons we chose to stay at thishotel. In reality they only have a safety box at the reception. Whywriting it as a "ROOM FACILITY"?? It's a lie!.Now that we are done with facts, My "didn't like" opinions: TERRIBLE, HORRIBLE food at restaurant. and overpriced. I really don't understand how such a terrible food costs more than double than anywhere else. Being on vacation in a special property we would accept high prices at the restaurant if at least the quality was REASONABLE. but you end up paying dozens of dollars for AWFUL meals!!
Review 75:1. Hotel location and setting - right in the middle of the jungle, amazing swimming pool, on the road to the ruins of Palenque.2. Reasonable staff with desire to help & assist. Some of the staff have certain levels of English-speaking - some lower and some higher, but definitely enough to get along even if you don't speak Spanish.
Review 76:The hotel could have better information available. This was a failing we found throughout Chiapas and Guatemala. Hotels should always have maps and standard information on trips and costs.
Review 77:We enjoyed our stay, pleasnat setting, staff helpful, food ok if not spectacular. Palenque is a wonderful site and the best of the 6 major Mayan sites we visited. However it is very hot so it was nice to have the pool to relax after the ruins. The position of the restaurant is also pleasant. We had a room far from the reception in the hope of seeing more wildlife but we didnt see much at all sadly. The whole area risks destroying its ambience and beauty by uncontrolled development, far too many signs and on going reduction of the rainforest. The road to the ruins could in a few years be an ugly development strip instead of a beautiful forest approach.
Review 78:The restaurant is expensive and mediocre but given the location (close to the ruins) to catch a taxi to and from town each night adds up. There is a bus (collectivo) that runs both ways you can catch from the front for 20peso but it finishes at 6pm. We discovered El Pachan village, about a 10mins walk towards the ruins which has restaurant options for dinner. However for the price of the hotel it should really be offering a shuttle service to and from town. DO NOT BOOK A TOUR direct with these guys. We made this mistake and paid 2-3times more than we should had we just gone into town and booked direct. We complained to the manager but he did not care at all. Any opportunity to make extra money off his guests is a good one it seems. Also 'tours' in this town is really just transport, unless a guide is included for ruins etc.
Review 79:Beautiful gardens and setting in the middle of the Palenque jungles. Great fresh water pool, a place where you can really unwind and relax
Review 80:Service of staff is really bad. There is no room service and after 11 pm everything is closed. The service in breakfast is too slow.
Review 81:The place is located in a beautiful environment, surrounded by nature and really close to archaeological Park.
Review 82:Ants in the bathroom. The bicycle porter wasn't available upon checkout and the cabin a long way to the parking lot, so had to tote a lot of luggage on our own. Diesel tractor dredging the creek from 8 to 5 every day.
Review 83:Beautiful place, saw howler monkeys and other wildlife. The pools are exquisite.
Review 84:Minor upkeep issues, AC didn't work called maintenance to repair. Then found lites on patio not working and shower drain very poor. I was to tired at that point to have plumber come and bother me. So I reported when I left.
Review 85:Staff friendly and helpful , location and grounds great. Food service very good
Review 86:We cannot think of a thing that we did not like.
Review 87:Chan kah exceeded our expectations. We loved the jungle location. The grounds are extensive. The pool is simply stunning. We are birders and there were many, including the motmot that landed in a tree outside our cabana, and the trogans that eluded us on our way to breakfast. The porch with comfortable rocking chairs facing the jungle was beautiful. The howler monkeys made the experience even more exotic. The staff were very friendly and accommodating. The food was great and reasonably priced. The resort is conveniently close to the ruins. We have travelled much further and at considerable expense to have the same jungle lodge experience. Our one regret was that we hadn't time to stay longer.
Review 88:Our room was rather dark and the shower tub was clogged.
Review 89:Good quality of house-keeping and efficient service by restaurant staff. Useful information on tour options provided by front desk, which we took advantage and it was worthwhile.
Review 90:Cabins seem to have different furniture, our was a bit older than the next to us. Food is a bit expensive, however the quality is good.
Review 91:The jungle setup makes your sleeping experience unique. Waking up to the noise of the monkeys is priceless. The pool area is clean and refreshing and service lives up to its stds.
Review 92:The only negative is that the hotel was very quiet and it seemed at times that there were no other guests. This meant that the evenings were quite boring and had I been staying for more than two nights I may have been tempted to head in to Palenque itself which didn't look that appealing as I drove through.
Review 93:A hotel which is located in the jungle of Palenque and is made up of a series of bungalows, nicknamed Jungalows due to their location. The Jungalows were more than adequate and were very comfortable despite being in a jungle. They contain electric, A/C, TV, comfortable beds and private bath/showers. The surroundings are spectacular as are the communal areas of the hotel. The Palenque ruins are 5 minutes drive away and the main town 10 minutes drive. There are occasional bugs but that is to be expected in the jungle. There were also lots of lizards and Iguanas to be seen. Despite hearing monkeys I didn't see any. Breakfast was included with the room and was of a high standard as was the evening meals sampled.
Review 94:Our first trip was 30 years ago when there were only 7+ casitas. Though the resort is now much larger, it still has the same wonderful feel, gorgeous grounds, comfortable casitas, more amenities (A/C / TV, spa, business facilities), nice pools, very nice staff AND wildlife. We were thrilled to take a picture of a howler monkey and other animals. We appreciated the attention the resort paid to integrating the facilities with nature.
Review 95:Front desk staff could be friendlier. Decor in the rooms needs upgrading. Once at the restaurant the wrong dish was delivered, and although the correct dish was eventually produced (a bit grudgingly), the wrong - and more expensive one - stayed on the bill and could not be changed because "the computer doesn't allow cancellations." It was only a difference of 30 pesos or so, but still. Front desk staff was a bit stingy with smiles and information.
Review 96:Loved the jungle atmosphere, especially the sounds of the howler monkeys every morning and evening. Our hut was comfortable, though not luxurious. Spacious restaurant with a decent range of options.
Review 97:If fully booked it might get noisy depending on your neighbour as the villas are relatively close by each other. There is no real closet just a wodden bank so difficult to unpack your clothes.
Review 98:The location and little villas with views of the jungle are fabulous. The staff and waiters are very friendly and helpful. The pool is magnificent and very well suited for children. You can see lot's of animals while staying in the resort. We really loved this hotel and our 6-years old daughter enjoyed every minute.
Review 99:only 1/3 of the sweeming pool is now working.
Review 100:beautiful resort, with nice and beeg bungalows. . The resort is not in the town but on the way for the historical maya site.
Review 101:Grumpy old male wait staff who expected tips as you go.
Review 102:Proximity to Palenque ruins.Natural surrounds.Howler monkeys,hummingbirds,fireflies,agouti,iguanas.
Review 103:In the restaurant they added the tip to the bill . it is the client who decide % of the tip . Not the waiter or the restaurant...
Review 104:good location , nice gardin
Review 105:The restaurant is seriously overpriced.
Review 106:The greatest aspect of this hotel is its location within a tropical forest. You can spend hours gazing at birds and any type of wildlife. The leaves of the forest are used in the restaurant cooking. The pool is also fabulous. The staff can not do enough for you and are really helpful. The spa is a great bonus.
Review 107:A comfortable retreat in beautiful gardens surrounded by birds and monkeys - which you heard, even if you didn't see them. Great swimming pools and helpful staff
Review 108:The staff was not well prepared. We went out and came back to a locked fence. The staff forgot to mention they would close the entrance and we should from another one.
Review 109:The setting, the monkeys noise, the wild life around
Review 110:The restaurant and bar staff added a tip onto the bill and then asked for a tip on top. They were very pushy for extra money and not very pleasant when serving. Staff elsewhere were fine.
Review 111:The environment and facilities.
Review 112:Maitress and pillows, would be great to have a brand new stock of themfor next visit
Review 113:An excellent hotel to keep in touch with mother nature. Best forralaxation and getaway from urban noisy life.
Review 114:The food is very bland. Drinks are not generous. Prices are a little high.
Review 115:The huge swimming pool. The flora and fauna. The lovely grounds. The pleasant and accommodating staff. Rooms are good.
Review 116:Fantastic hotel :)
Review 117:Pool is large but was a bit cloudy. It could do with a big filtration system or something....
Review 118:Clean bungalow in a brilliant jungly location. Monkeys!
Review 119:Food prices
Review 120:Pool, rooms, location
Review 121:Wifi was problematic.
Review 122:Location near ruins. Outdoors atmosphere.
Review 123:Minimal English and not informed as to main site.
Review 124:Charming site, jungle with small houses
Review 125:The food was really poor, very disappointing.
Review 126:The staff were really friendly and stunning location.
Review 127:I enjoy that the hotel is inside the Jungle.
Review 128:Great location for the archeological sites! Good pools for the kids
Review 129:Restaurant is not good enough.
Review 130:The hotel is surrounded by selva. Lots of giant trees, even a river. Bungalos are pretty.
Review 131:Resturant food was medicore great setting blah food.no maps of town or area available
Review 132:Idyllic setting very well designed and maintained grounds

Review 138:Close to the ruins, beautiful pool
