Reviews for Casa Cartagena Boutique Hotel & Spa
Review 1:The hotel was very nice, clean with well appointed spacious rooms. The staff was wonderful, from the moment we arrived they greeted us with welcome tea and snacks on our balcony and helpful tips for sight seeing and dinning. I would definitely recommend to friends!
Review 2:When we arrived, the staff knocked on the door about five times.. to bring tea, to bring the cheque, to bring sweet treats and ask for other things.. But that´s the only "complain" that I have.
Review 3:The whole hotel was beautiful, the staff was very attentive and courteous. We really felt like kings :-) The breakfast is incredibly delicious and it´s not one of those huge buffets.. small but a great selection of delicious local and international food. The giant bed was incredible! I had booked two nights and due to circumstances, we couldn´t get there the first night they only charged us one night, although I only called almost midnight..
Review 4:The only issue I had with my stay was that my husband and I were very hot in the room and the air conditioning was not able to be used in October. That being said, a staff member did find us a fan, which helped.
Review 5:The hotel was really nice and had a great boutique feel to it. The rooms are very large and comfortable. There is a happy hour with free pisco sours and even when we didn't go, the hotel sent them to our room with a few little snacks- was a very nice touch!
Review 6:The 'do not disturb' sign was sadly ignored multiple times. This meant if the room was needed at times during the late morning, it could not be accessed without disturbing the housekeeping crew. The room was also kept alarmingly warm. At one point on my final day, I left the thermostat on cool so the room would be comfortable upon my return. The do not disturb sign was hung, but upon my return, the room had been entered, the air had been set to heat and the room was stiflingly hot. It was my final night, so I just opened the window for a while. I bet if you tell the front desk expressly not to enter the room or adjust the temperature settings, it wouldn't be an issue. Also, I found the breakfast to be underwhelming. The display was beautiful and the service friendly and attentive, but ultimately, the food was unimpressive.
Review 7:The location is great, tucked away from any main drag, with Cristo Blanco visible from the courtyard. The grounds are gorgeous, the staff is helpful and friendly and the spa is beautiful and relaxing. I loved the thermal pool!
Review 8:The only area for improvement from our experience would be the food from the onsite restaurant.
Review 9:The hotel was superb, very friendly staff, excellent spa, perfect location and very comfortable, clean rooms,
Review 10:Perfect location in super charming boutique hotel. The hotel is an old noble house restored to the most modern style. Lost of comfort at world class service.
Review 11:Nothing negative can be said
Review 12:We liked everything. The hotel is lovely, staff was charming, everything was very chic including the staff's uniforms.
Review 13:The hotel is well located but a bit uphill. Not very appropriate for those wih reduced mobility. We had a bad expierience with the private cab hiered by the hotel and almost missed our flight. After waiting for almos half an hour for the service that did not show, we hired a cab on the street which took us to the airport just in time for the half of the price charged by the hotel associate. While we waited the hotel staff would call de driver and tell us he was just around the block. Appart from that the staff was great.
Review 14:Breakfast was very good, with great variety. Staff was helpful and very polite. The complimentary pisco sour happy hour was great idea.
Review 15:Quite pricey but worth it for a special occasion.
Review 16:Service, facilities, free cocktails and canapés. Amazing breakfast with local foods. Views from the spa.
Review 17:Excellent staff and attention to detail. Friendly and aims to please. Fabulous boutique, small hotel near all major attractions, restaurants, bars and Cusco neighborhoods.
Review 18:The rooms are huge but have almost no natural light. We found the service over-attentive. Relative to other Colonial style hotels in Peru it didn't feel like great value for money.
Review 19:The hotel is very well located and has been beautifully converted from an old colonial building.
Review 20:The only thing I didn't like was leaving... I could live there forever!
Review 21:This hotel is so ridiculously charming and beautiful! We stayed here for our honeymoon and never wanted to leave. The staff is amazing; breakfast was incredible; and our room was perfect. We had champagne and a hot bath with rose petals waiting for us when we arrived. The spa was exactly what we needed after a tough day at Machu Picchu. I can't say enough about this hotel!
Review 22:This was by far our favorite hotel during our two-week trip to South America. The rooms are simply beautiful - so beautiful that you almost don't want to leave. The spa is lovely and relaxing and the food was delicious. I recommend the complimentary Pisco Sour class which was served with delicious appetizers. The staff was exceptional - they were incredibly kind, accommodating and friendly. I can't say enough good things about this place. Next time I travel to Cuzco, I will definitely stay here.
Review 23:We stayed here for three days at the end of 2 weeks of travelling Peru. It is small, and sophisticated. We had room 7, on the second floor; note that those rooms are more spacious as they have a high beamed ceilings. Beautiful courtyard and spa, delicious breakfast, beautiful salons, mixing colonial style and Italian design. Moreover, staff is great, know your name, remember they way you like your coffee, ... Truly indulging!
Review 24:The lighting in the room was not good. I like to do needlepoint and would have liked a reading light other than next to the bed.
Review 25:The staff was really friendly and helpful. The whole atmosphere makes you feel relaxed. Breakfast and lunch were really good.
Review 26:Price of the drinks was a bit high
Review 27:It covered all facilities, spa was amazing, massage was gorgeous. Room had everything required. Brilliant highly recommend staying here.
Review 28:Some training of receptionists might be helpful as they were asking for us to pay additional 18% for my peruvian friend even though we've provided all documents required for exemption of this tax. We have not paid in the end, but fact we had to discuss seemed a little bit unprofessional on thier side. Especially given the fact, that in hotel in Puno we had no such an issue. Apart from that, everything was at its best.
Review 29:Everything. The hotel was just faboulous. There is no much rooms on site, makes all services feel as personalized. The suites are quite comfortable size with 2 big beds makes it comfortable to sleep 2 persons in just one or separately. The bathroom equiped with bathtube and shower with separate toilettes again all in motre than comfortable bathroom size. Wifi is very good as room has its own router. SPA is limited to massage pool and hammam but quite enough after day spent walking. Breakfast buffet includes enough variety as well as home made yoghurt extremely good. As said one of the best hotels that we strongly recommend.
Review 30:The place focuses on providing comfort and attentive service. Room and bathroom are really big and comfortable and decorated with good taste. Breakfast is complete and enjoyable. Top class restaurant is a great option for dinner. But the single best thing about the hotel is the staff. Ready to make sure you are ok and ready to help always Close to all the attractions.
Review 31:Spa was out of service when we where there, which was a shame as this is part of the reason we chose to stay here, because of their beautiful spa area.
Review 32:Staff where so welcoming from the Moment we arrived. Special occasion my husbands birthday & they really looked after us. An unexpected upgrade & a birthday cake! It was a really lovely stay. Sauna was working which was a bonus
Review 33:That I couldn't stay longer. You will LOVE this place!
Review 34:Staff's attentiveness was exceptional. Always with a smile. Spectacular breakfast buffet in peaceful surroundings. Starts at 5:30 so you can still be up on Macchu Picchu by noon. Wi Fi very powerful. Beautiful setting. Close to Saxywoman (just up the hill), the central Plaza and all the restaurants and shops, as well as the Pre-Colombian museum.
Review 35:Absolutely nothing. I could keep on writing about the positives.
Review 36:My sister and I stayed there for two nights as a base before and after Machu Picchu. The staff are wonderful. The rooms very spaciuos and have a lovely Peruvian feel. We even were upgraded without requesting to this amazing suite with spa bath at no extra cost. Its close to the plaza de armas and all of the Cusco attractions. The hotel recommended a restaraunt "Limo" for Peruvian food and it was excellent. You have to try "Fernandos" Pisco Sours. Such a wonderful hotel. Even the breakfast was authentic Peruvian breakfast. Its nice to be in Peru and eat and feel like your in Peru. Loved this hotel.
Review 37:nothing
Review 38:Absolutely everything!!! Rooms: spacious and clean, everyday cleaning, free water, huuuge bed, iphone(4) docstation, very cosy! Also they provide oxygen instantly or in rooms. Breakfast: a litle complicated but traditional. Staff: never met so sensitive service, everybody is cared about you needs, always helping in any questions. Sauna: absolutely gorgerous spa area- hot swimming-pool-jakuzi, steam sauna - the best timespending after hard day in Alpes! They also serve very tasty ice tea! Hotel: the best thing is that the hotel is not big so you feel like a special guest there. Very beautiful garden, lobby with fireplace, coca tea unlimited. 10000000000% recommended!
Review 39:My mother and I stayed at Casa Cartagena for 3 nights and loved it! The friendly staff speaks good English and upgraded us to a lofty room with a wonderful view of the courtyard. They welcomed us with hot (mate de coca) tea, juice and a light snack. The room was spacious and clean. During our 2nd day in Cusco, we felt weak due to the high altitude air. We've noticed an oxygen outlet on the wall and called the reception to inquiry about it. They indicated that they can provide us with 50 minutes of oxygen before bedtime for the entire duration of the stay (free but only one use). We did ask them to turn on the oxygen before bedtime and felt much better for our trip to Machu Picchu the next day. Internet connection was strong and consistent. Breakfast at the hotel was great as well, they made fresh eggs upon your request and had some wonderful dishes. The hotel is conveniently located a few blocks from the main square, Plaza De Armas. We felt very comfortable walking around the area and walk back to the hotel at night. Overall, it was a wonderful place to stay in Cusco and we would recommended to it friends and family.

Review 80:Very peaceful, quiet, relaxing. The hotel has been beautifully restored, and felt very luxurious
Review 81:Nothing.
Review 82:The contrasting historic building and ultra-modern decore work perfectly. Staff could not have been more attentive. The (included) breakfast was amazing, the buffet was set up as we've only seen in some of the best hotels in the world.
Review 83:This is one of best hotels I have stayed at period. Highly recommended. The staff was incredibly attentive and the facilities were gorgeous. The hotel on its own makes me want to return to Cusco.
Review 84:Not too many other people at the hotel, but that's probably the point. Its very exclusive.
Review 85:We loved the location and the setting. Very classic but with all modern amenities.
Review 86:Really, a perfect stay. Staff were attentive yet never intrusive, room was spacious and smartly appointed, bed was comfortable, breakfast was delicious. The courtroom style of the hotel means that it was also very quiet.
Review 87:Beautiful place amazing court yard!! Kind of feel like royalty staying here. Place is well kept and staffs really attentive to guests 24/7. Coming from 0 altitude, we didn't do well and we glad we stay here. Staff gave us oxygen mask and in the room to keep us comfortable... We totally recommend this place!!!
Review 88:Air condition was too hot even when its set on cool but we just switched it off opened the window and let the cool breeze in.
Review 89:Great location, staff were friendly and helpful, the 2 queens bedroom was spacious and we love the modern design of the interior in an old building exterior. Great value for money also. They also provide free Wi-Fi and Breakfast. They also give you yummy Coca Tea upon arriving.
Review 90:bathroom sink too low (probably a style thing)
Review 91:-Location location location -beyond excellent "service with a smile" -beautiful -historical -a real "feel good " place - our second visit -excellent restaurant -not advertised: complimentary ceviche making class and pisco sour making class -amazing spa
Review 92:Unfortunately my partner was ill and had to stay on for a few days whilst I did the inca trail, no one checked on him and then when he finally left 3 days later it was 6am the man at the front desktop couldnt give him the outstanding amount to pay so he said he would return to pay the bill in 2 days ( we had already paid for 7 nights bed and breakfast) this was purely extras ! We hear from our travel agent the hotel will not release our bags because of an outstanding payment !!! I had already paid nearly $3,000 and the outstanding amount was about $300. We were returning to Cuzco and staying nearby. As soon as we arrived at the new hotel we were hounded for the money !! It wasn't my partners fault his bill wasn't ready at 6 am and we had just spent over $2,800 in their hotel - show some respect please !
Review 93:Lovely hotel in a beautiful spot, staff friendly and helpful. Nice breakfast.
Review 94:Unfortunately we were not at the hotel long enough to fully enjoy this marvellous facility. It is definitely the place to stay if you are looking for upmarket accommodation. It provides an excellent breakfast with many unexpected choices, the rooms are spacious and luxurious with the ensuite as big as the main room itself with three separate areas for tub, shower and toilet. The grounds are lovely and provide a sanctuary for relaxing with a complimentary spa and sauna being included. We did not have a chance to explore its location so unable to comment in that regard and have only make an observation. Service was good and the porter promptly delivered our luggage to the door.
Review 95:Excellent staff; always willing to help. This hotel is located a couple of blocks from the Plaza de Armas, don't let this discourage you from staying here. Plaza de Armas could be a noisy place, especially on weekends, so if you're looking for a place where you can relax this is the place for you. Great place to relax after a day of exploring Cuzco. Accommodations are clean, spacious, nicely decorated and comfortable; The breakfast selection is outstanding: home made cheeses, desserts, breads... everything was superb. We higly recommend Casa Cartagena when visiting Cuzco!! By the way, the complementary pisco sour with snacks are nice touch.
Review 96:Needs soundproofing guests leaving early disrupting sleep, spa had grit in bottom, mats slipping on polished floors, exploding light bulbs
Review 97:Beautiful designed hotel, large rooms, helpful staff
Review 98:EVerything but the location. Stay at Palacio Nazareas next door orMontesaro. Both are far superior in every way.
Review 99:Great location. That is about all... The hotel rooms are filled withmold and falling apart. Missing tiles in the shower, old robes, fakecheesy flowers in the rooms, breakfast is limited and gross.
Review 100:Gret location in Cusco. The staff were fantastic. In particular, Victor stood out as a charming, very bright and helpful concierge. We were very impresed and will definitely return. The whole experience was perfect.
Review 101:Perfect location, outstanding staff, amazing breakfasts, fun pisco sour lessons each evening - it was a wonderful experience!
