Reviews for Gateway Motor Inn
Review 1:The plumbing from other rooms is very loud. We were not shown how to scan our key to re enter hotel so were locked out. We were not offered breakfast.
Review 2:Beautifully comfortable beds. Very quiet . It would be nice if the restaurant was open. The managers were very sweet. Would stay again and it would be easier knowing about the keys and no food etc.
Review 3:There was no airconditioning in the rooms. The rooms could not be locked into the hallway. No channel 1 or 2 available on TV. The outdoor furniture was dirty and had cobwebs on it. When sitting outside were were looking at a plain wooden fence, a wood pile and someone's empty beer bottle. We had to ask for milk in the room. We there was no body wash in the room, so we asked for it, and they gave us body lotion. If you stay in the ordinary rooms, you have to carry all your baggage right through the front door. Cannot park outside your room.
Review 4:The interior of the hotel was very clean. The staff were very helpful and polite. When we expressed some dissatisfaction they upgraded us to a suite. Quiet hotel, because nobody stays there.
Review 5:The exterior of the place could be improved as once you are inside, it is so welcoming and looks more like a 4 or 5 star hotel rather than a motel.
Review 6:The staff were so very friendly and obliging. The place was very clean and we were well looked after on Christmas Day.
Review 7:Our host, the décor, the overall amenity of the property. It looks a bit ordinary from the road but has a high quality fit-out - really a bit of a surprise when you enter the lobby - and it carries through to the rooms. We had a very nice continental breakfast on one of the mornings as well.
Review 8:There was a musty smell in the room and we had to open the outside door for fresh air. A little too far from town for our liking.
Review 9:This establishment looks a little run down on the whole, maybe due to being a bit isolated from main town area., however the room was very large and clean, Debbie on reception was very friendly and helpful. The bathroom was very new, clean and well appointed. Bar and restaurant needs work to get up and running.
Review 10:The motel had very few lights on when we arrived late and the room was very dark when we stepped inside. I know it is environmentally insensitive but it is most welcoming when your room if lit ready for your arrival!
Review 11:Beautiful decor and quality fittings. Very helpful friendly staff.
Review 12:No cooking/reheating facility in kitchenette. No venting working in bathroom. Everything dripping with water following showers. Mentioned to management but not improved.
Review 13:The facilities were first class. Our bed was amazing. The room was warm modern and inviting. Quiet peaceful surroundings.
Review 14:Johaan was an amazing host. His professionalism and friendliness was superb. Nothing was a problem for him. He was courteous the whole time & had superior customer service going above & beyond making our stay immensely enjoyable.
Review 15:It woulde have been good if the heater had been put on, in our room, prior to our arrival, since it was a bitterly cold night and the room took a long time to heat, with the skope heater.
Review 16:Almost everything
Review 17:Checking in was painfully slow, and when the manager got to reception, we weren't sure if he was a guest or staff. Maybe a polo with the motel logo would help be more professional.
Review 18:Rooms were tidy and comfy. Pricing was realistic.
Review 19:Very pleasant staff who went out of their way to ensure our comfort and enjoyment of their facilities. The Gateway Motor Inn is our choice of accommodation in the Wairarapa region
Review 20:Property closed up at 8.30 pm when I arrived, difficult to raise the owners. Television had poor selection of channels. Vodafone cell phone reception was not available
Review 21:Young lady who answered the door was attentive and welcoming. Clean and tidy but a little tired.
Review 22:Loved Everything staff were great with my five year old, they catered to our every need would highly recommend you stay here very very very comfortable
Review 23:There was a problem with the wardrobe door which was broken. The staff were very apologetic and moved us to another room.
Review 24:Beautifully decorated and interesting building. Attentative staff who looked after us very well.
Review 25:The staff did a great job at welcoming us and nothing was too much trouble. The entrance and rooms were WOW factor. The soundproof rooms are wonderful too, very peaceful.
Review 26:I think the biggest disappointment was the view from our room. Looking out towards the back of an industrial workshop is less than pleasing. I suggest a fence of some sort to provide some privacy in front of those two rooms. The fridge was very noisy and seemed to rare up every half an hour...more noticeable during the night.
Review 27:Free Wi Fi was extremely generous. Lovely bathroom.
Review 28:Not a bad experience, my partner has a bad back and our bed was a little soft for people with such an ailment. A very minor criticism.
Review 29:Value for money. Courteous reception staff and quiet surroundings.
Review 30:I liked the fact that it used to be a stables and the owners have run with that theme, all rooms named after a famous New Zealand horse. Nice court yard leading onto garden area. Great Manager and wife, lovely owner, who gave us a ride into town, friendly people would definately stay again.
Review 31:Kitchen facility was very basic due to small space - a microwave would have been a good addition. A known problem of bathroom steam setting off fire alarm may be controlled with better exhaust fan facility in the very modern bathroom. Not much to not like.
Review 32:Quiet, private good sized room with good facilities. Quite modern buildings and facilities. Easy to find and access from the main road through Masterton, but was very quiet. Staff were very polite and helpful and nothing was to much for them. Has a function room at facility that had a wedding function on the Saturday night, was in full swing when we arrived back to room, but once in our room, hardly heard any noise at all - didn't stop us from a good night's sleep. In keeping with the horse theme of the original structure, rooms have winning horse names instead of room numbers.
Review 33:there was no restaurant service as they didn't have a chef yet.
Review 34:Staff was really welcoming, nice and helpful with dinner recommendations. Room was very clean, great shower, door opened to nice patio, quiet, good carpeting. Lots of space in our room. Hotel had an interesting history.
Review 35:Nothing
Review 36:Staff, service, facilities were all great and would definitely stay there again! Liked the fact there were no room numbers but each room had its own title
Review 37:We had a lovely stay, thanks to Sanjay & Dhili (managers). Relaxing drink at the bar followed by dinner. Special thanks to Dhili for taking care of my little boy out in the garden some we could enjoy our dinner. See you both next time:)
Review 38:We did arrive quarter of an hour earlier than our ETA, but when we entered and rang the bell a few times there was no response at all.(12.45pm) We went and had lunch then came back again.
Review 39:Friendly service, clean and classy.
Review 40:Although the room was large there wasn't a normal table to have breakfast at, so we had to eat at the low coffee table while seated on the sofa...
Review 41:It looked like the rooms had been redecorated (although in an old/classic style) and the bathroom was modern and like new (also seemed to be equipped for less able people). There was a private terrace/decking and the corner room we had was spacious and had view on the garden as well. The manager and his wife were very friendly and helpful.
Review 42:No complaints.
Review 43:We had a nice and quiet room and it was nice and dark so didn't wake up too early in the morning. Lovely bathroom and pleasant staff.
Review 44:This is our first choice of accommodation always. Love the cosiness of the rooms with the big heavy curtains, and colours and furniture that remind me of english country decor. modern large bathrooms, and excellent friendly staff.
Review 45:Bed was a bit soft for our liking, but this didn't lead to a poor sleep.
Review 46:Clean and modern, safe and secure with lovely friendly staff. Our room had plenty of space and the Iceberg roses were beautiful.
Review 47:Firstly I had booked this motel online in order to attend my brothers funeral. There was a wine festival that weekend and there was no other accommodation. I received a call next morning as I was about to leave home to be told they had double booked and the room wasn't available. After much arguing he agreed I could stay there. It was very expensive the website said $345 for two nights but I was rung the second night and asked to pay I replied I would pay when I checked out as I have always done. When I went to pay next morning I was told it was $400 I told the woman to check her website as I was very angry. She then agreed and I paid $345 still in my opinion a huge price. Also there were very limited channels available on the TV not even Channel 2 and when I went to watch the All Blacks game next morning I couldn't access the correct channel and had to go to reception at 6am to get him to adjust the set. He was most annoyed but so was I. I will never stay there again.P
Review 48:difficulty contacting reception by phone after 8.30pm & before 8am. Need new phone call forwarding/transfer system. Minor niggles - some lamps bulbs need replacing & forgot to replace milk.
Review 49:lovely rooms, modern décor, great shower & bed. Very quiet as set back from the main road. Friendly welcome by manager. Nice relaxing lounge/bar area
Review 50:It is a bit of a drive from the town of Masterton
Review 51:When we got there the place was deserted and we weren't even sure that it was open, walked through the front doors and thought how clean the place looked although very quiet. The Manageress was very helpful and accommodating. Our room spacious, very clean and comfortable. Wifi worked well. No complaints at all.
Review 52:Run down looking from the outside and my Booking.com booking hadn't been received so the place was all locked up and in darkness when I arrived - had to call to raise the manager.
Review 53:Friendly & helpful staff, comfortable bed, excellent shower and a great bathroom
Review 54:Unfortunately the engineering workshop next door was in full flight and when I opened the windows for fresh air it was really noisy - not conducive to getting any work done. However at 5pm that stopped and it was very pleasant. The lack of air con was also a bit unexpected.
Review 55:Great room and facilities. The welcome on arrival was fantastic and friendly and the check in process very easy. Would have been a fantastic room and great value for a family group.
Review 56:I arrived with three wet and cold children. The manager Sanjay was so friendly and welcoming and made sure we had everything we needed. The children loved it and want to go back!!
Review 57:No microwave. We had come with extra, prepared for a 5 night stay. Expected to be able to park close to room (as a motel). We were lucky and could do so but that wouldn't have been possible for all rooms.
Review 58:Staff - Manager & wife. Comfort Bathroom Quality fittings Location suited us (but others might find it a bit out of town). Enjoyable 5 night stay.
Review 59:not sure why the area beside the entry area was in darkness all the time i walked through it. never ran into any other customers while there. shower needs a soap holder on the wall in the shower area. it had to feel of new owners learning the ropes.
Review 60:bedroom was good all round, shower the same, rate these areas 6 out of 10, jug and fridge in room.
Review 61:No atmosphere to greet guests, mid-winter the fire wasn't lit, no ambient lighting. Communication with desk staff was limited and unclear. The restaurant fell short. Sadly, the new management don't have the same fervour as previous owners & staff.
Review 62:A Country Motor Inn well presented with tasteful furnishings and comfortable common areas with clean spacious rooms named after famous NZ racehorses.
Review 63:It is not set up for volumes of demanding travellers, so don't be expecting 24 hour room service, brunch etc.
Review 64:A very pleasantly appointed, quiet boutique inn. A perfect conference or retreat venue. The husband and wife management team were very charming, accommodating and friendly. We would recommend.
Review 65:Nothing at all
