Reviews for Hotel Den Wolsack
Review 1:This review is for Hotel Elisabeth and not Den Wolsack (the latter was closed for refurbishment). Good modern hotel with very clean, large, comfortable room with a huge bathroom. Breakfast was very good, with lots of choice. Wifi was very good.
Review 2:As the brasserie seems their main business, they are less attentive for hotel guests' checking in, especially when the cafe is busy.
Review 3:Location, nicely renovated old music school building.
Review 4:The bed linen seemed to contain a blood stain and there were some hairs here and there. Sewage(?) smell from the shower. Inadequate attendance during breakfast on weekdays.
Review 5:Fabulous location, right next to St. Rombout's. Some nice restaurants nearby as well. Breakfast taken care of during the weekend quite well (a bit less on weekdays). Welcome drink and complementary water bottles!
Review 6:No hot chocolate and no honey at breakfast for me who doesn't drink tea or coffee
Review 7:Really felt we were in a luxury hotel. Good parking for our large minibus. Close to shops and to where we needed to be. Staying open after 11pm for our late arrival was much appreciated. Staff very helpful.
Review 8:The staff were all very helpful and cheery.Even at lunch times and in the evening when they were very busy in the excellent restaurant they would always find time to answer any queries or offer advice in a friendly manner.
Review 9:I could not sleep because if I closed the windows the bedroom was stiflingly hot [room 34] and if I opened them I was virtually eaten alive by mosquitoes.
Review 10:1] The view of St. Rumbold's Cathedral's magnificent tower from my room was lovely, as was the chiming of its bells. 2] The bath and bathroom was marvellous. 3] The croissants at breakfast were excellent.
Review 11:Noise from floor above, communal bathroom above with no sound insulation so footsteps overhead late into night. Many curtain hooks broken so hard to pull curtains across. Bed bit too firm
Review 12:Friendly and well situated
Review 13:Great location next to Cathedral and Main square. 10 minutes walk to either train station and you can always find the hotel as it next to the very impressive and very tall cathedral. Very close to main area of restaurants and bars but just the other side of cathedral to make the hotel to be in a quiet area. The rooms are clean and staff were very helpful and allowed me to check in slightly early.
Review 14:It took ages to fill up the toilet tank after one flush. Our room was under the staircase which went to the top floor (the attic rooms) and each time someone went up the stairs, we had noise.
Review 15:The room was half attic. It was spacious and the atmosphere was nice.
Review 16:Room was very basic, even though we paid extra to upgrade. Very noisy: not the beautiful cathedral bells but disco music in the courtyard until midnight and then at 7am. Breafast was very basic and very little available at nine am.
Review 17:The location was fantastic right next to the beautiful cathedral. Nice place next door for food and drink at very affordable prices. Mechlen is a lovely town, plenty to see and do.
Review 18:Being locked out of the hotel because the room card hadn't been activated, walking to another hotel, to get the night manager to let us in & sort the card out.
Review 19:Everything was good friendly staff very helpful.
Review 20:This is not a hotel to stay in summer. There is no air-conditioning and due to mosquitos, you do not want to open a window.
Review 21:The staff was very friendly and the location is great - just near Grotemarkt, in the center
Review 22:no air con in room - room temp too high to sleep. To be fair weather was freaky hot.
Review 23:central location (literally on doorstep of cathedral), good value, friendly family/boutique style, underground car park on doorstep.
Review 24:At first I was confused that reception always seemed unstaffed. However, restaurant staff were very helpful - I'm guessing they do double duty.
Review 25:Lovely & charming building, very spacious & comfortable. The location was perfect - yards from the old market square. A bonus was the carillon & chimes from the cathedral tower.
Review 26:Rooms should be more ventilated, you can smell the old walls.
Review 27:Hotel is very well located - next to the cathedral and two minutes walk from grand market. Underground parking next to the hotel is very convenient.
Review 28:I enjoyed my stay, and the melodies played in the cathedral made me feel really close.
Review 29:A small and personal hotel, makes you feel more "as at home" than on a big one. Enjoyed the patio where I could take the glass of wine before entering the town for a walk an evening dinner.
Review 30:The staff can be pretty absent, since they are expected to run the reception, tend the bar and wait at tables all at the same time. So you usually have to go get them in the restaurant and hope that they will have time to follow you to the desk.
Review 31:The hotel is so close to the Sint-Rombouts cathedral that you can almost jump onto the tower from your room window.
Review 32:Terrible weather that day. ;-)
Review 33:Lovely view on the impressive St-Rumboldt's tower (including sound!), very charming modern interpretation of a beautiful old building.
Review 34:Internet connection broke down after 10 minutes.
Review 35:Good bed, reasonably priced and tasteful dinner available until about 22:00, friendly staff, no noise from outside. Easy to find by car.
Review 36:Could hear neighbours cough and snore at night Too dark, even with alllights on therefore hard to work in the room wlan coupled to onedevice only
Review 37:Ambiente of old house Nice personal
Review 38:Noisy Room
Review 39:Great Location
Review 40:The breakfast room was rather gloomy.
Review 41:The staff - cheerful, friendly and helpful.
Review 42:location suppurb, city very friendly and parking unexpectedly cheap

Review 48:Room was very compact
Review 49:Location and great food
Review 50:Nothing
Review 51:Make us feel very Welcome
Review 52:There was no one to do the check-out until passed 8am
Review 53:Its location is very good
Review 54:pas d'accueil tardif, problème de réservation, défraîchi, odeur d'égout dans la chambre
Review 55:breakfast , there were not enough brown breads
Review 56:silence in the center of the city luxy room
Review 57:sometimes the wifi did not work
Review 58:Friendly hotel in the centre of Mechelen
Review 59:The location and architecture
Review 60:Not much choice of hot food at breakfast.
Review 61:Very friendly helpful staff Clean & comfy room, really lovely location and just what we wanted.
Review 62:didn't dislike anything
Review 63:Location, friendliness, breakfast
Review 64:The staff were so helpful, from the lady who checked me in and provided me with a jug of milk for my tea on arrival to Yolande who was happy to arrange a taxi to take me to the cemetry and back, and on the evening, although busy had time to chat about the menu and arrange what i liked. I would have liked to stay longer and will certainly return when i can
Review 65:No 24hr reception so we were greeted by rather rude temp receptionist on Sunday afternoon - had to telephone for the front door to be opened. Electronic room key didn't work - this took approx 30 mins to sort out. Temperamental shower. Poor dim room lighting.
Review 66:Interesting old building. Wonderful situation right next to the cathedral in the centre of town. Nice large room with view of cathedral. Reasonable breakfast. Clean comfy beds.
Review 67:Well, it is REALLY old (NOT in a good way). The bathroom is renovated and there's flat-screen, but everything else is rundown. Don't count on the hairdryer. It wasn't that dirty, but the was were old and dirty, towels were not looking that clean and the one on the floor for the shower was diffidently not washed. I say if you want good location, bring your own towel and toiletry (all of them) and maybe a hairdryer if you need. And try not to touch the stuff you don't need. Oh and the power outlets are covered in spider webs, but they DO work !
Review 68:Location, location, location ! It's literally next door to the Cathedral in the center. I even had the room with the balcony to the Cathedral. It's NOT noisy apart from the very musical Cathedral (be aware that it doesn't just ring for the quarters or hours, I first panicked thinking I'm late!). Anyway, it didn't bother me. All the 3 nights I was there, we were hanging out in that area with great bars and restaurant ("Lord Nelson" is great). I don't think you can find any better location close to everything. The breakfast was OK for my taste.
Review 69:Several tv stations were being switched to digital and could not beviewed, hot water in the shower didn't work, curtains not well-tailored and give you too much light especially in the morning, no soapin dispenser by wash basin, breakfast and overall deal not achieving thelevel expected of a four star hotel.
Review 70:Quiet location, friendly staff, very near to the Bus Stop
Review 71:They had done some pest control. The odor in the bathroom was unbearable. Slept the window open in order to mitigate the smell !
Review 72:setting in the old town
Review 73:Separate cold and hot water taps (especially in the shower). Toilet seat cover falling off. Internet not included.
Review 74:Breakfast (included and has warm food as well). Spacious bathroom. Welcome drink.
Review 75:Parking was off site and expensive, not enough electrical outlets in room, WiFi was sold to us as 24 hours at a time instead of telling us we could shut off our computer and it was a total or 24 hours we paid for not consecutive use. Matresses were very soft and not supportive and pillows were too thick and hard. Staff seemed unable to answer most questions.
Review 76:Location was fabulous and it was easy to walk to many things and restaurants nearby were excellent. The Market square behind the church was loaded with great shopping and market day was fun.
Review 77:A very minor remark: the room was a bit dark as only low-power lighting was available. The ceiling light did not work.
Review 78:Good location in the very centre of town. On-site facilities (brasserie, shop). The reception is well-stopcked on info materials on Mechelen. The welcome drink voucher was appreciated!
Review 79:Unfortunately the weather was very hot during our stay so the lack of air conditioning made the room temperature uncomfortable. However, the hotel did provide an electric fan in the room.
Review 80:Convenient location close to Cathedral, many bars and restaurants. Mechelen is a very interesting town with lots to see and do.
Review 81:Arrived on Sunday, at about 4 p.m. The hotel was closed. On the door, an announcement saying "For check-in phone......". It turned out to be the wrong number. After finally someone came, in response to my enquiring for the reason why they should do this, the person (apparently a Serb or a Croat) replied; "That's Belgium". At breakfast, there was always only one person serving, who could not cope with the workload. Therefore one had to eat over uncleaned tables and insufficient food.
Review 82:Not very easy to find with all the road works.
Review 83:The hotel was very pleasant, the staff very friendly to a nonFlemish speaking traveller. Breakfast was very good. Hotel verycentrally located.
Review 84:No computer for guest usage Quite expensive
Review 85:Location was superb Good breakfast Friendly staff

Review 97:Bed not comfortable Bathroom was a little grubby
Review 98:Warm welcome Excellent staff service
Review 99:-high temperature on room -no staff to welcome us on arrival, we had to get the key in next door restaurant

Review 101:the food was really good in the restaurant, traditional Flemisch cuisine but freshly made !
Review 102:No tea making facility in room
Review 103:Super location

Review 105:The internet connection was very poor or lack of most of the time. Breakfast had a very limited assortment

Review 108:The price was too high. when we were awaked è a clock in the morning by the workers:
