Reviews for Almaa Sintra Hostel

Review 1:Our double room with bathroom had poor lighting for reading and was very basically furnished and decorated. Bathroom was good but bedroom could be more comfortable and welcoming. Better pillows would be a bonus.

Review 2:Very friendly, relaxed hostel in lovely quiet leafy setting. The staff were helpful and informative. We enjoyed the walk to the town and seeing several of the amazing gardens and palaces.

Review 3:The shared bathroom and toilets are really shared

Review 4:Beautiful place inside a park. Beautiful rooms. Beautiful people host and crew. Great guest area and fully equipped kitchen. Very good dinner served by order. A great mid-eval style bar next door with real Mead

Review 5:Parking on the narrow, exterior, steep street.

Review 6:Very helpful & warm staff. Although breakfast didn't include eggs, they got us some. Very ecologically-oriented, environmentally-conscious staff and facility.

Review 7:Small suggestion: If you don't use key for room doors - as you decided to do, you have to find more efficient solutions for people arriving or coming back at Almaa after midnight.

Review 8:Amazing view of Sintra valley, very chilled atmosphere in an extremely nice location!

Review 9:Breakfast was too simple - no yogurt, inadequate gluten free offerings, no eggs.

Review 10:Loved the Lomi Lomi massage that was available through the hostel as an extra.

Review 11:long walk to hostel from train station, shared toilet and bath with two dorms...not good...curtain for door, late night arrivals disturbing sleep, charges made to rent towel and print boarding pass, taxi service overcharge during train strike

Review 12:quiet, scented air fragrance, knowledgeable staff

Review 13:a bit fresh inside as facilities were huge. But owner gave us wonderful quality down blankets and it was just excellent.

Review 14:Great place with strong and clearly expressed values, applied into real life. Not easy to do, but well done. Our compliments to the owner!

Review 15:open dynamic of coed bathroom, no closet, hooks, pegs, hangers for hanging clothing in bedroom, on the street parking is challenging but it works

Review 16:wonderful kitchen and breakfast, great community areas, helpful and informative staff, large double room, clean

Review 17:nothing bad, it was a great experience!

Review 18:Almaa turned out to be a present to myself. I came home rested and rejuvenated, because of the beautiful, serene, magical surroundings and wonderful staff. I felt really at home. My room was amazing with old features and a very nice view from the window. My favorite space in the hostel was the kitchen, where meeting people with the same mindset around the huge table was a daily pleasure. Location is good as well, walking distance from Sintra. The hostel's tour is a must-do, because you see places that only locals know. I can recommend Almaa to people that like to connect with nature and other people and slow down a bit. It's the perfect place for that. Thank you Almaa staff for the wonderful time!! I'll be back ;-)

Review 19:Beds a bit hard but that's me being picky!

Review 20:A lovely relaxing and calming place to be. Would have loved to stay longer. Will definitely stay there again as we didn't get chance to see all that Sintra and Almaa can offer

Review 21:We loved the hostel! Its beautiful fairylike garden and the house itself are great and kind of inspiring. The kitchen has everything that you need to cook something and has a very sociable atmosphere. The bathroom is fine too. Breakfast was very good with lovely fresh bread! You can meet very nice people there which are open minded and friendly. Altogether I would love to go again!

Review 22:The place is beautiful and very well arranged With a cosy atmosphere. The garden is huge, there is a little pub si great to have à drink at sundown looking out over the park. The owners are very nice and helpful, I really enjoyed my stay!

Review 23:some mouldy corners in the house(kitchen, stairways, not the room though), not so easy for allergic people!

Review 24:the garden was wonderful, the kitchen very cosy and the whole athmosphere very unique. It was good to have the possibility to cook meals.

Review 25:The whole experience was just LOVELY.

Review 32:great location

Review 33:Beds were too soft for us.

Review 34:We loved everything, the building, grounds, hosts, location, sunset views.

Review 35:The kitchen and fireplace and the staff were the best. A spotless clean hostel in a quiet garden location. Truly a refuge for weary traveler.

Review 36:nothing.

Review 38:Moisture, noisy, strange atmosphere, very bad night,...

Review 39:Decoration, location, good tips

Review 40:No reading lights in the dorm room.

Review 41:The location, the room, the garden, the atmosphere.

Review 42:Shared facilities, kitchen, lounge etc

Review 43:The amazing spot! Really Nice!

Review 44:overpriced, overcrowded in rooms for 10 people, very rural location with no transport links, very basic and primitive, dampness smell in rooms. Staff lost my booking details and papers!! only worth €7/night only one toilet on the floor for all its guests!! Very poor.

Review 45:Nothing!!!

Review 46:Highly recommend, lovely clean relaxing place to stay, super helpful staff. Just don't follow google maps to get there from train station as it takes you the long way. There's a road missing in google. Pick up a sintra guide map or ask someone :)

Review 47:The interior decorating was probably intended to appeal to hippies andI'm sure it does but I thought it was a shame as it clashed with theclassic old portuguese design of the house. But that's a personalopinion and I'm sure it appeals to some. Having to do everything onthe ground got annoying. A few adult size chairs around and a dresser ortable in the room would have been nice. Also this Hostel is not for theshy as there is almost no privacy in the bathrooms/shower areas. Ishould qualify this by stating that I was staying in a 6 bed dorm roomand the other rooms may be different.

Review 48:The hostel is in a great location in the Sintra forest and in aninteresting old house. The property is huge and beautiful and closepalaces and castles that are the attractions in the area. The staff wasvery nice and eager to help.

Review 49:Situated a short walk into the Historical centre of Sintra but in a peaceful setting. Good breakfast provided and bathrooms were very clean. Beds comfortable so we had a good nights sleep. The hostel is full of atmosphere and staff are friendly and helpful. The 'Quinta da Regaleira' is about a 5 minute walk away and is a must see.

Review 50:The room decoration is very poor in comparation with the rest of the hostel.

Review 51:Nearby momuments. With a great bar and an ocult shop in the back. Beautiful gardens and a nice beautiful dog called Pavlov. Very friendly and informal. Great for relax.

Review 52:I felt like being at home and enjoyed a lot staying in this hostel. Sintra is a magical place and the Almaa Hostel makes it more special. many thanks to Patricia and Bernabé - it was a honour to meet you :-)

Review 53:There are a lot of mosquitos around and also in the room - impossible to get good sleep. For this reason you have to keep the widow closed at night and i t gets really hot in the room. I would suggest maybe some mosquito net. Otherwise great place!!!

Review 54:Great setting, great staff, beautiful place, serenity and peace.

Review 55:its not really a big deal but you have to wash up the dishes on your own. i had a few dirty spots on my blanket, still ok though. It is a bit difficult to find due to one- way roads,

Review 56:Great Location: unique and quiet, close to nature but you can also walk downtown!delicious coffee and marmelade for breakfast, nice staff!we had Dinner at a very nice traditional Restaurant behind the Main Station in Sintra: Dom pipas! I highly recommend it!!

Review 57:Overpriced. Plugs were not working in te room and the shower of our floor was out of order. Nice breakfast, but a bit scarce

Review 58:Very nice location and atmosphere

Review 59:Hard to get a taxi & public transport is unreliable, specially if You need to hurry, BTW it isn't a hotel/hostel fault.

Review 60:Extremely nice location & garden, also very eco/family-friendly.

Review 61:It was a little cold in the rooms in the morning. Otherwise we really enjoyed our stay.

Review 62:Even though it wasn't right in the main area of Sintra, we really enjoyed walking to it from the town. The land was incredible and the kitchen was great to cook in. Wish we were able to stay a bit longer!

Review 63:the only thing that annoyed me a little bit was the ceiling light in our room. i would prefer something atmospheric that matched the amazing decor.

Review 64:the actual building is so interesting. a lot of history beneath. The stuff was so helpful and kind. breakfast was simple yet perfect. The use of kitchen was an amazing experience as well. Loved it. Felt like it was my home for that day. Also check the garden. You wont believe your eyes!

Review 65:This is a special hostel with a very peaceful, nourishing atmosphere. The building itself has been well converted into a hostel and the hostel's gardens are worth exploring. The staff are unobtrusive but attentive and the dorms are very neat and clean, with comfortable beds. The common areas and kitchen are cosy and welcoming.

Review 66:Breakfast could have been a bit more diverse. Something beside the sweetlike cheese etc.

Review 67:The setting is wonderful. Beautiful garden and close to all importantsites. Creative people who built the interior of the house in analternative way.

Review 68:On a good location in Sintra, amidst castles and mystical places, lies awonderfully decorated home full of suprises. If you doubt whether tovisit Sintra for only one day from Lisbon. There is more than enoughincredible things to see and do in Sintra for several days. This hostelis actually one of them.

Review 69:rooms are bit dark and moist. no double beds. over priced to my opinion.

Review 70:nice location in the nature, quiet. staff is very nice, equipped kitchen

Review 71:The relaxed, homely atmosphere and very friendly staff

Review 72:great overall

Review 73:Staff was great, facilities were fantastic and the overall feel of the Hostel leaves you wanting more.
