Reviews for Casa da Pendoa

Review 1:Great location, well furnished, quiet and comfortable. And Jose the owner is super welcoming. He gave us some fantastic tips for eating and local attractions. We ended up staying a second night.

Review 2:Nothing unfavourable just that there is no elevator so if you have heavy luggages, do note.

Review 3:On-site parking available; friendly staff; walking distance to eateries; quiet environment; snacks & breakfast basket.

Review 4:Really nice and comfortable place, where the owners/staff try to think of the little details that make a difference and the stay a wonderful experience. We will keep the guesthouse in very good memories. Thank you!

Review 5:It says breakfast included but really they will give you a welcome basket of food when you arrive (crackers, juice, milk, cheese, butter, jam); then the next day you will receive two pieces of bread for 'breakfast'.

Review 6:Lovely very spacious apartment with fully equipped kitchen, free bottle of Porto from the owner's vineyard, very quiet and private corner of town, helpful and kind staff.

Review 7:There was a very musty smell in this room - at first we thought it was the drains but realized it must be coming from the walls. Bed pillows that were against the wall were damp - smell only downside of this stay.

Review 8:Cute, tiny apartment style room with lovely view of the Moorish castle. Comfy bed, nice little kitchenette and very friendly staff.

Review 9:Very few options for breakfast (eitther crackers or bread). Some kitchenware was dirty (there were some for substitution though).

Review 10:Very helpful and friendly staff. Beautiful cozy apartment. Magnificient view. Oporto wine offered. Good comfort all around.

Review 11:The bed was small for a couple like us - two tall persons.

Review 12:The apartment is cute! It has a modern spirit in a old building. In tje morning they let fresh bread in your door! For us, the breads with butter and cheese, the Nespresso and juice were perfect for our breakfast!

Review 13:Very detailed briefing on city attractions. They offered us some wine and food for a snack or breakfast. Not easy to find the street (but this is a problem of the city of Sintra, as well the parking availability!)

Review 14:Not easy to find even with GPS but we had great parking on the street at the location when we got there. We only drove in and out of town. We walked or caught the good local buses during our stay.

Review 15:I think we had the best room in the house. Spacious, 4 bedrooms, great views, fully equipped kitchen with washing machine, coffee machine etc. The woman who checked us in was terrific.

Review 16:It's located in the heart of old Sintra, close to everything but quiet, with beautiful view of the mountain and the Moorish Castle. Sandra was gave quite some good advice. She also gave us a 4 bedroom apartment rather the 2 private flats seperated in two buildings. The welcoming Porto, the jam and the home-made breafast were very friendly. We decided to extend our stay for one more day. Sandra kindly deducted gave us a 5% discount.

Review 17:The area is quite humid due to its location (Sintra being on a mountain). This is not the fault of the property but I would suggest provision of some towel heater and exhaust fan to help in getting away the humidity to some extent.

Review 18:There are windows on three sides of the studio. The view is quite good and there is privacy.

Review 19:There was nothing to fault with this place.

Review 20:We arrived early from Lisbon so went to Casa da Pendoa to see if we could leave our bags. We were welcomed in and the lady said they had a room available and if we were happy to be upgraded to the 4 bedroom apartment we could have the keys now! There were only two of us but we were thrilled with this apartment - it is huge! It is also beautifully furnished and everything was renovated. We also had beautiful views out the windows and from the balcony of the mountains and all the way to the sea. Then we were told there were items in the kitchen for breakfast and fresh bread was delivered at 9am. Amazing! Extra special was the complimentary port. The location was also fantastic - only a couple of mins walk up to the main square. Our only regret is we couldn't stay longer!

Review 21:Really friendly helpful staff- really nice welcome to the property. Clean modern comfortable apartment- lots of space and all you need for a stay. Nice details too like fresh bread every morning. Property is central- literally minutes from the center. Would definitely stay here again.

Review 22:We stayed in eight different cities and eight different rooms during our trip to Portugal & Spain. Casa da Pendoa was our favourite. Daniela was very warm, welcoming and helpful. The snacks and fresh bread each morning were very much appreciated. I'd love to visit again!

Review 23:The room was very smelly like sewage. There was black mould in the bathroom. Shower was gross. One bun for breakfast inadequate. Would not recommend this place at all. I felt mislead by your rating.

Review 24:Nothing the room smelled like sewage.

Review 25:From the moment we arrived, the customer service at Casa da Pendoa was faultless. We booked a superior twin room with mountain view and it was spacious and very clean. I particularly liked the attention to detail- facilities to hang clothes and laundry. The complimentary wine and welcome basket was a lovely touch. Our apartment was away from bustle of town centre but close enough- about a five minute walk only. What a great little find! Highly recommend it.

Review 26:Nothing! If I had to fault anything, maybe shorten the check-in process.

Review 27:Everything! Attention to detail in apartment was above and beyond - welcoming port, soap powder, morning bread delivery, cheese & crackers, selection of teas, heated towel rails etc. Loved this accommodation!

Review 28:Everything! From the kindness of the staff and their helpfulness, to the (huge) apartment itself and the lovely bread we got in our apartment for breakfast!

Review 29:leaving

Review 30:The apartment was well appointed and the fresh bread left at the door each morning was an added treat. We loved everything about it, the staff were very helpful and friendly and could not do enough for us. The view was spectacular and although a very old building it had the charm of being loved now and in days gone by.

Review 31:The staff were extremely helpful and kind. It is a lovely little place. Welcome pack on arrival and bread delivered every day and even some local port left out for us!

Review 32:Perfect location, very clean, apartment was huge, portwine as welcome drink, fresh bread in the morning, cheese, butter as a gift. Very nice lady in the reception, gave great recommendations.

Review 33:There was a bug......in the room. Shower so so. The check-in procese was extremely slow(more than 20mins of waiting :( as they seem to be short of staffs but she is nice. Very very hard to locate. Don't rely on your google map..and especially when you take your car..it's simply impossible to find your way to the hotel. but once you get there there are places to park.

Review 34:The staff gave us good recommendation on the nearby restaurants. The room was spacious and nicely decorated.

Review 35:some dump smell in the shower

Review 36:Location, the building, the view, the receptionst! the wine and juice that welcomed us, the loaf of bread in the morning.

Review 37:The only downside to the lovely room was that you could not open the shutters in the morning due to intense, blinding sun heating the room up. There was the usual hard bed we had everywhere in Spain and Portugal, but that is obviously the way in many European countries.

Review 38:We had a lovely view of the castle on the hill from our window.(Room 3) Also, the tiny kitchen with a frig, microwave, sink and dishes was convenient. They stocked the frig with juice and fruit as well as butter and jelly for the fresh bread they delivered to the door each morning. The bathroom was great, with lots of holders for the towels. Daniella was a most gracious host and helped us with anything we needed.

Review 39:The host was charming and extremely helpful - he parked the car in a difficult spot, told us where to eat, drink, what to visit in Sintra etc. The apartment was well-set up and comfy, and looked like the photographs and had been well thought through in terms of provisions. A very nice 'detail' was that although breakfast was not included, the owner left fresh bread on our doorstep in the morning.

Review 40:The rooms are very homely and comfortable, which made it pleasurable to unwind after a long day of sight seeing. The mountain view rooms showcase a lovely view. Fantastic location right in Sintra-10 minute walk from the train station. Nice touch by the hosts with offering some breakfast items and sampling home made tawny port.

Review 41:Nothing too obvious - at street level, so occasional early morning car departures, but otherwise very quiet.

Review 42:Very central, comfortable, reasonably quiet, and with helpful staff. Well appointed and additional provisions on arrival were thoughtful and appreciated.

Review 43:No clean towels (stayed 4 nights/ 5 days) Parking very difficult Bathroom tired looking Shower holder broken Rubbish not cleared

Review 44:Friendly staff and excellent location Liked the living/bedroom room Liked the starter pack including the Milk, Tawny Port etc 2 fresh rolls each day

Review 45:nothing

Review 46:Friendly service. Took the time to make recommendations on sights, dinner, and pastries. Our room had some local foods and snack, and we found fresh bread hanging from our doors in the morning. The room was nice, bathroom clean

Review 47:The shower. Being North American, I forgot to wait for the water toheat up. Lol.

Review 48:We loved the way it was. We are first time visitors to Portugal.Particularly charming were the fresh preserves in the refrigeratorawaiting fresh baked bread delivered to our door the next morning. Westayed in No. 7 which is a small house with courtyard.

Review 49:The receptionist is very kind, she explains a lot of things to see/do in Sintra (and cities near Sintra). The house is in the very city centre and is very very comfortable.

Review 50:Great location in a quiet spot in the town centre. Lovely big room with a nice view of the mountain. Although breakfast was officially not included, fresh bread was provided every day and butter, cheese, jam, juice and port were available in the room, included in the price. Loads to do in Sintra and around.

Review 51:- Too bad we only booked one night

Review 52:- Very friendly and enthousiastic hostess (Daniela) who takes time to give you information and recommendations of the city - Good location - Nice big room with some nice stuff such as Nespresso, Port wine, crackers etc.

Review 53:Accommodation a little damp caused electrical problems. Parking could also be problematic streets very narrow.

Review 54:Helpful staff. Very informative about the area places to visit and eat.

Review 55:Smell of old furniture

Review 56:Everything! Spacious apartment. Located in Centre of Sintra. Clean apartment. Friendly helpful staff. Well furnished and had all the facilities

Review 57:Staff was exceptionally helpful and the room had everything we needed. There was some port in the room to enjoy that evening, juice for the morning and even fresh bread delivered to the door for us to enjoy the next morning.

Review 58:We had a problem with one of our bicycles. Our very kind hostess helped us out by contacting her brother to make an emergency repair. We were and are very grateful!

Review 59:The room was a bit cold at night, and we didn't figure out how to warm up the place. Also there are noise from pipes, which may disturb a light sleeper. It didn't bother me, but my friend couldn't sleep well.

Review 60:Location was good, close to the main square and information center. Staff very accommodating and friendly. Liked the coffee and welcome basket in the room. I also liked the humble rustic decor. Loved Sintra.

Review 61:Since there's no staff in the hotel in the night time, they have a contact phone number in case you need anything - the problem is that when we needed the number was not working and we couldn't get through to anyone. But the next morning it was all sorted out and they didn't charge us for the first night.

Review 62:The staff was very friendly and attentive. We had a problem with one of our rooms in the first night but the next morning it was all dealt with and they didn't charge us for that night. They clearly pay attention to details, the port wine and nespresso machines in the rooms are wonderful, and the fresh bread in the morning is delicious!

Review 63:Nothing! It was terrific!

Review 64:Location was perfect. So close to the main part of town. Generally very quiet. Staff were informative and hospitable. We loved this place and would not hesitate to come back. The 3 bedroom was really spacious, especially considering we were a bit jet lagged and needed to space to sleep things off.

Review 65:Nothing

Review 66:We had a wonderful stay at casa de pendoa. We came for one night and were upgraided to the best suite of the place. An amazing apartment with 4 bedrooms and a beautiful view of the valley below and sunset. We had everything we needed. Free parking just in front of the place. Peter (the host) was really nice and welcoming.

Review 67:Excellent location in the historic centre and good views from the apartment. Very helpful and friendly staff offered suggestions of what to do and where to eat.

Review 68:The apartament was not ready for the predetermined schedule

Review 69:The location is central and easy to reach, in a very quiet zone. The apartament was very very clean and comfortable, provided by a large range of accesories to cook

Review 70:The location was minutes uphill from the National palace, TI office and buses. Service was wonderful - great recommendations. Had all that we needed for a great price. Not fancy but comfortable.

Review 71:The streets to get to the apartment. If one is not an experenced driver it can be tough to get there. Small winding streets.

Review 72:Ideal for visiting the surroundings of Sintra. Lots to see! Sintra isa place with a history.

Review 73:Difficult to find. Internet didn't work. Would have been really nice if the pool was working.

Review 74:Very helpful staff who went out of their way to give us what we needed. Very good washing facilities after 2 weeks of traveling. Facilities ok for overnight stay.

Review 75:Access with a car was tricky and parking was difficult (although made easier with help from the staff).

Review 76:The staff were extremely helpful with parking and information on Sintra, and having fresh rolls delivered in the morning was an unexpected treat.

Review 77:Shower broke during our stay but was repaired the same day.

Review 78:Very informative, pleasant and helpful staff. Nice bright and clean room and good location.

Review 79:My adult son and I had a fantastic stay here. The staff was so helpful, the location was perfect, and the guest house was very comfortable with a beautiful private patio. An oasis from the crowds. Fresh bread, fruit, Port, and nespresso provided. I had an issue with my rental car but the staff (especially the kind and patient Pedro) made calls for me and helped resolve the issue and my nervousness. THIS is the way to run a business, and I will definitely go back. Stay here, you won't be sorry!

Review 80:Very hard to bring luggage but it is everywhere in Sintra. Slight smell in bathroom I think fan needs to be stronger

Review 81:What a pleasant surprise when we entered the room & there were 3 large windows we could open & leave open all night. The owner & staff had great recommendations for restaurants and we went to almost all of them. The view from our room was great & we made use of the shared balcony & washing machine

Review 82:Advise not to drive in Sintra. Take the bus, train or a taxi. Very busy & hard to find parking.

Review 83:Staff was wonderful & very informative. The room was very well done & larger than I thought it would be. They even brought a free breakfast for the morning. Awesome place! Highly recommend staying here. Just don't drive.

Review 84:Lots of food left in the room for us, including fresh bread every morning. Very friendly welcome with lots of recommendations on sites and restaurants.

Review 85:Parking place may be difficult to find if traveling with own car.

Review 86:Location was superb, all the sights in Sintra are easily reached from here, beautiful old house and very friendly staff, who introduced us well to the surroundings.

Review 87:Very friendly and helpful staff who spoke very good English and couldn't do enough for us. Pointed out tourist spots to visit. Hot bread delivered to our door the next morning, tea and coffee, cheese and crackers included too.

Review 88:We had a little trouble getting to the address with out rental car, because the streets of Sintra are such a maze. But a GPS and some patience while circling the vicinity got us there in the end.

Review 89:A house with a real personal touch, and very friendly, helpful staff. We had the large apartment on the top floor, decorated with retro furniture. The kitchen table was lovingly set for breakfast, and fresh bread arrived at the doorstep in the morning. We were surprised to have so many great complimentary extras such as Nespresso capsules, cheese and jam, oil, washing tabs, etc.

Review 90:Washing machine in room not working, however I was shown to another property up the road and was able to use that one. If you are tall, the sloping roof in the room could be a bit of a nuisance. The bathroom was very smelly.

Review 91:Very professional, friendly and helpful staff. Lovely complementary bread for breakfast and snacks on arrival. Close to shops and restaurants, and easy to walk to see things. Excellent recommendations from staff for restaurants in the area.

Review 92:No place to cook your own dinner (like actually cook potatoes etc).

Review 93:Lovely designed room, nice shower for two, location 3 min walk from the city centre, every morning fresh bread. Host-Peter has offer us great places to eat dinner!

Review 96:The apartment had lovely views and was very clean and comfortable. We liked the little extras provided- breakfast, port cheese and rolls every morning. Thank you

Review 97:Very nice roomy apartment in a good location. It is close to the center and the Palace but far enough away to be quiet. The facilities very very good and we had a nice view of the Moorish Castle.

Review 98:Absolutely nothing to dislike.

Review 99:Peter at reception gave us a very good welcome and very good advice regarding restaurants and places to visit. The welcome food pack and fresh bread delivered each day was a nice touch as well.

Review 100:We had a room in one of the detached buildings and the view from our window was of the garden and main building, which was quite gorgeous. We forgot an ipad when we left, and returned to find it waiting for us, and the manager trying to call us to let us know. A very nice experience.

Review 101:getting lost driving around the little streets in Sintra- no fault of the Casa da Pendoa!

Review 102:helpful and friendly. The host talked us by phone of how to get there as we got lost in the streets of Sintra. we loved the wine and crackers left for us and the fresh bread left in the bag on the door for our breakfast. The advice to walk along to the Regularia Gardens was well worth it- a favourite spot of ours in Sintra.

Review 103:location slightly hard to find. Some of the deco elements (bathroom curtain, rug, etc..) can be changed to make the place absolutely flawless.

Review 104:Everything; especially love the big window with mountain view in the bathroom and the fresh bread left on the doorstep in the morning!

Review 105:The room was great! Very clean, charming and well located. We had a nice view with an amazing sunset over the ocean and a terrace where we could have a drink, quietly. We definetly recommend it!

Review 106:Very comfortable, well equipped, spotless, all the 'welcome' goodies and daily fresh rolls - felt spoilt. Staff were so friendly and helpful it felt like home from home. Would recommend without hesitation.

Review 107:The attic has a low ceiling, so I had to bend to walk around. But I am 6ft.

Review 108:Although many people say you can do a one-day trip from Lisbon, we decided to stay one night instead. The hotel staff is a friendly college boy and he gave us some useful advices. Our room is in the attic, but it is spacious with a small kitchen and washer. The hotel is in a very quiet neighborhood with small but old houses and narrow rock paved streets. We even found a place where we watched sunset.

Review 109:I do enjoy cotton balls for utilitarian purposes, really - I have nothing against cotton balls. All I'm saying is .. Don't grab a handful of them and put them in a pillow case and try to disguise it as a comfortable cloud of fluff to sleep on - because it isn't! It would be a recommendation of my own to perhaps consider a slight upgrade in the pillow department, and by upgrade I mean, out with the old in with the new..

Review 110:While possessing the mindset of an Aristocrat with the budget of a humble peasant, I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the very reasonably priced room. It was encapsulated in natural light every morning and a view of the most vivid shades of the organic landscape of beautiful Sintra.

Review 111:Nothing, this place is difficult to fault for the money.

Review 112:It's impossible to fault this place for the money. We had an economy studio that was brilliant - It's hard to tell from the advert but lots of space for 2, very clean and well equipped. Very friendly and helpful staff. Happy to answer questions and provide recommendations (food, sights, transport) for the local area. The welcome pack of butter, jam and cheese was a nice touch and the fresh bread delivered to our door in the morning was great. The location is perfect - 30s away from the centre, but being set a road behind the main square (separated by another hotel) keeps things quiet. You are close to sights, and restaurants, and the station is a 10minute walk away as well. For dinner, I would actually recommend heading away from the touristy centre back towards the train station as these are the best restaurants, less touristy and a fairer price than in the historic part. We were on the ground floor at the back and our apartment had it's own private entrance that opened up on to a quiet street. If a view is essential for you, go for one of the more expensive rooms, but we didn't go to Sintra to spend time in our room looking out of the window.

Review 113:For some mysterious reason, there was no hot water on the last morning of our stay and we had to take a cold shower. Worth noting that there are lots of stairs, which may be an issue for some.

Review 114:Staff were friendly and very helpful. We were given a long and helpful introduction to Sintra and its attractions when we checked-in. Our room was not situated in the main building, but in another house situated about 80 meters away. The size of the room was very good with a nice view towards the ocean. The mountain facing terrace meant we could have coffee in the morning sun, which was very pleasant. Although not easy to find at first, the location is very good, not too close to the very touristy centre and not too far either (about 3 mins walk).

Review 115:The only thing I didn't like was the fact that it wasn't mentioned in the description when booking that the outside space isn't private. There are washing facilities just a few metres across from the apartment which can be used by all guests staying at Casa da Pendoa. It was fine as they were rarely used but it would have been nice to know in advance. Also, it might be an idea to ask people not to use them after a certain time as we had some people doing there washing at 11pm which gave us quite a bit of a fright when we saw people looking in through the glass door of the apartment in the pitch dark.

Review 116:We stayed in the seperate apartment around the corner which had a little yard outside. It was really nice to be able to sit outside for breakfast or a glads of wine in the evening. Everything you could possibly need inside, coffee machine, toaster, hob etc. Also a really good wifi connection and some English channels on the TV which was nice to have at night as the town pretty much shuts down about 8 PM. Staff were incredible, really helpful and nothing was ever too much trouble.

Review 117:Nothing it was a very positive experience.

Review 118:Sandra was a really welcoming host. The room was lovely with a great view of the surrounding countryside. The little kitchen was well thought out as was the space. The bread bag in the morning was a great touch as was the port. Would highly recommend for a stay in Sintra

Review 119:The sheets were not comfortable

Review 120:The location and view if the moors castle. Pedro was very accomodating and recommended great restaurants and cites, especially the gardens tunnels to waterfall.

Review 121:Peter met us and showed us our room. He also gave us much information about Sintra including terrific restaurant recommendations. Before he left, he made sure that there was nothing else we needed.

Review 122:At my age there were to many stairs to go up to the apartment which was on the 3rd floor (last floor of the building). The room I stayed the sealing was very low and not comfortable because of the low sealing and the angels were low and I had to bend. Otherwise I believe that on the entrance or second floor it is much much better

Review 123:The location was in the center of the Historic area. The apartment was clean and we did not expect the small and nice things for breakfast. Jose and Pedro the management personal are extremeley nice and accommodating and as we came jose pointed out what are the important sites to visit in Sintre which was extremely important for us. They helped up to carry the luggage when we arrive and depart. was very important for me.
