Reviews for Brisbane City Backpackers

Review 1:The toilets are cleaned twice a day and everywhere gets cleaned everyday so it isn't dirty! You can change your bed sheets as often as you want! There is a pool and sun lounges over looking a good view! It's about a 3 minute walk from the supermarket, Coles!

Review 2:The add on booking fee The price I paid and what I got for private room - have stayed in much better for same price. The Room, 0ld dirty Bathrooms YUKKY Dirty kitchen Having to pay dep. for croc. and cutlery I just could not wait to get out of there...

Review 3:Nope, can't think of anything

Review 4:The staff was really rude, totally untrained and they didn`t know how to offer a simple answer as where we could park since the carpark didn`t have any spot for our car.

Review 5:The bar, the party and the location.

Review 6:- The place is never clean, even when the cleaners has 'cleaned', - The reception staff are either: desperate to be anywhere other than where they are or desperate not to serve you because in fact your interrupting their social chat/flirtation with other guests, - The mattresses are shockingly uncomfortable, - I was put into a room next to a main door that squeaked and slammed every time it was opened and closed, - Hooks to hang items on in showers are VERY VERY rare, - Toilet paper was often non existant in the toilets, - Other people in the hostel don't know how to wash dishes...thus the kitchen sinks were quite full of dirty dishes. - WIFI not great.

Review 7:- The views of Brisbane, - The space of the outdoor areas. There are plenty of places to sit/stand, - The facilities are quite good (viewing platform, pool, bar, movie room).

Review 8:The showers likened to the prison showers in OITNB Bit old fashioned and tired I couldn't wait to leave

Review 9:Good terrace and bar Friendly staff Good vibe

Review 10:No ensuite rooms available after booking one in March. Only one cotton blanket for 2 beds. No towels.

Review 11:Location was great for access to Liverpool Soccer game

Review 12:Only one broken kettle No drinking on the balcony after 10pm No Breakfast Rubbish WIFI There were boys sleeping in my all girls dorm room Not allowed to buy drink outside of hostel and drink inside hostel or they fine you

Review 13:Views of the City The pool although it was cold All the outdoor seating Gated parking On site bar & music Laundry room was well equipped Hairdryers downstairs Close to Coles supermarket

Review 14:Internet was limited to common areas and bit slow in peak use times.

Review 15:Room very clean and tidy, very helpful staff and other guests even carried down the stairs my bag for me.

Review 16:The swimming pool and bar are a good addition to the horrible rooms uncomfortable beds and paper thin walls. Some stag were friendly others were miserable. For what you get and mostly what you have to pay its not worth it! At all!

Review 17:The hostel was busy which is nice when you are staying in a place to meet people and enjoy a 'party' environment. The on site bar was also very cheap and the staff were all very informative

Review 18:Bit of a pain having to hire crockery and cutlery but seems to be the norm in Queensland, would be better if it was given out in a bag.

Review 19:The view, the pool, the roof terrace and actual pints in the bar :)

Review 20:The carpet in the room was stinky and disgusting . The kitchen dirty with no dry towel to dry crockery . Wifi really really slow . Overall nog z really nice place to stay but does have a nice deck with city view .

Review 21:The view , the pool

Review 22:The room was dark and smelt of damp. In a 4 share female dorm. Limited space for luggage. No secure lockers. Fair amount of working longer term travellers.

Review 23:The hostel has lots of different social areas to cater for all types of traveller. Outlook point at top had good views.

Review 24:the inconsiderate guests slamming the doors, one girl sneaking in a guy for the night in our room..thank heavens i thought i overslept and was leaving the hotel at 1:30 when i thought it was 4:30...stayed outside until i was actually ready to check out.

Review 25:view of the river and bridge, access to cbd and mall. location of property to train station, access to the lone pine from downtown. the view of the wheel and the skyline from the bridge, cannot believe i did all that walking, facility had mini club room and a pool

Review 26:They advertised a free shuttle but did not want to pick us up when we arrived and told us it was a short walk, with heavy bags it is quite difficult as it is uphill and about 15 mins from the train station. The website also advertises airport transfers but when asked they just told us to get the train. Beds were uncomfy and top bunk had no stairs or bar to stop you rolling out. It's not very sociable, feels more like a working hostel

Review 27:Kitchen was well equipped.

Review 28:Very noisy, especially your room is located beside the entry. Horrible taxi/tour driver will talk so loud in the midnight. The wall is like paper. Central air con, u can't control on or off. It's freezing. Free wifi is not available in room.

Review 29:None

Review 30:Needed a Chair in the bedroom to sit and get dressed as was on top bunk. and air conditioning needed in common room as was very sticky for all.

Review 31:The views, Pool, Movie room, Air Conditoning in the room. Staff and guests were friendly. was a nice place.

Review 32:Had a lot of difficulty checking out early morning for connecting train. Staff were quite rude, took large time to serve even with no other check-ins present. Would have been nice to see priority over phone services- especially when no booking from phone eventuated.

Review 33:Great facilities and atmosphere

Review 34:NO ALCOHOL? Yes, no alcohol is allowed in the rooms since they have a bar. Also, it's a 10 minute walk from the train station and a 20 minute walk from the city so this is kinda a big deal to me. We ended up catching a taxi to the valley and back when we should have found a location closer to the train station where we could have just caught the next train passing through.

Review 35:Got a bunk bed with a double at the bottom and single at the top, a mirror, lamp, dresser and a rack to put our clothes on and hang things off of. It was pretty bare. Everything was pretty clean, the toilets and showers were clean too considering how many people it serviced. I didn't check out the pool but the bar and view were pretty good too.

Review 36:Too noisy, the walls are thin like paper. The aircon cannot be turned up or down or off and is was freezing in the room. Beds are not comfortable, mattresses are too thin and some pillows are plastic ones > not comfortable, too big and noisy. Had to change room cause the first one we were given was next to an entrance door that kept slamming. Some persons in the staff were really rude and not friendly. No accessible parking before checking in and the indoor parking is on top of a super stiff hill, my car didn't make it to the top, it was not really convenient.

Review 37:Swimming pool. free internet. proximity. The young blond lady at the reception was very good: responsive, excellent problem-solving skills, friendly and funny. The kitchen Chef was very nice and kindly helped us out with problems we had with the car.

Review 38:The bathrooms were not cleaned well as they were dirty when needed to be used. Could not sleep at all with all the loud sounds and noises on the floor we were on. People were not considerate of others and were making noise every hour of the early am between 2-5am. The sudden room check that happened the next day was a little disturbing. Also not being able to spilt the total cost of the hostel onto two Visa cards.

Review 39:Rooms stuffy and messy. (Though that's the people staying there) very noisy don't expect toget much sleep party never stops. Ideal for young party travellers

Review 40:Price, friendly staff

Review 41:Staff were not friendly. Room was dirty and small for £50 per night I'd expect a lot more. Wifi was non existent in the place, had to go to another backpackers to use wifi. Showers stank of bleach - couldn't breath

Review 42:Nothing

Review 43:It was hard to use free wifi very week. Kitchen was too small and many guest didn't wash pans or tongs after they used them. The card key didn't work sometimes so I had to go to the resection many times.

Review 44:They have roof lookout so I could see beautiful sunset. Girls only doom was comfortable and provided hair dryer.

Review 45:This hostel had a very laddy feel that made me feel uncomfortable. Sexist T-shirts on sale in reception and advertising topless waitresses at the hostel bar made me feel very uncomfortable and even unwelcome. Surely a hostel should be a place where every guest can relax and feel safe, and this is an easy thing to change.

Review 46:Good location, with a great view of the city, clean enough and good showers.

Review 47:mattress too soft the dryer not dry my clothes I paid 2 times $4 , and I press hot button . my clothes still 40% wet

Review 48:big kitchen ; clear glass window we can see outside from the room

Review 49:The music from the club is too loud at night till 12 something! The room is small and I can't find my pillow and blanket(or there is not?)but too late to talk to the counter.

Review 50:toilet is clean with hairdryer available. The balcony is spacious so suitable for friends to meet. The location is not so bad, 7mins from the Roma street station.

Review 51:Too noisy at night time When cleaners clean the bathroom I took a shower suddenly the bathroom cleaners swearing yelling at me and hit the door I was really shocked

Review 52:Clean

Review 53:Very noisy - arguments outside my room on two nights and police called. Don't provide or loan towels so only option is to purchase

Review 54:Got upgraded

Review 55:Bad smell all over the halls and room

Review 56:Everything

Review 57:Staff, location

Review 58:Location was good. Value for the price we paid. Totally fine for a night or 2

Review 59:Location and cheap

Review 60:The room was we quite small for us with out bags.

Review 61:It was a great location for the transit centre.

Review 62:Limited off street parking for a large vehicle

Review 63:Conveniently located to the convention centre and reasonable tariff

Review 64:No where to put anything, like a shelf when using the wash rooms.

Review 65:It's all good

Review 66:Staff very unfriendly not aware that guest pay their wages. Thirty mattress (bed bugs)

Review 67:The view across the river was great. Roof top.

Review 68:Pillows

Review 69:Kitchen not open for breakfast

Review 70:wifi would come and go

Review 71:great place to stay, great location, great people! Would definetly recommend

Review 72:Worst bed I've ever seen let alone lay on

Review 73:Good location,

Review 74:no air con, small rooms

Review 75:the upper story rooms are great

Review 76:Soooo noisy;(((

Review 77:Staff is so friendly and kind!!!

Review 78:Our room was on the corridor to the bar bit noisy

Review 79:The view and friendly staff

Review 80:no place to store luggage in the rooms, staff had other stuff to do than actually helping me

Review 81:Good, nice personal, clean

Review 82:The Beds are too Flat, it seemed to sleep on a table

Review 83:Great Services, Cleaning, Helpful Staff

Review 84:Peoples doors slaming thoughout the night~

Review 85:Private room was too small and there was a condom the shower... Shocking!!

Review 86:Outside facilities were fantastic

Review 87:No bath towels

Review 88:No changing bookings within a week of stay yet the staff did not answer emails about the place to provide info, so I had to book and take a chance. It states that there is car parking but really you are lucky to get 6 cars in and the streets around are no parking in most areas with big fines and tow away areas. I ended up booking 3 nights but only being able to stay 2 because of this with no ability to change my booking. Rooms had aircon but they don't run automatically so you have to rely on everyone else to want it meaning the rooms were hot and stuffy with no air circulation. Length of the beds with bars at the end mean for anyone over 6 foot it can get uncomfortable. Parking at the back of the facility meant you had to walk around the entire block to get to the entrance late at night, and they would not book you in without you back pack there so you have to carry this the entire distance rather than park, check in and then take a short cut through the facility with your key.

Review 89:You could stay 1 night. Is conveniently located near public transport. All wings have their own security doors. Bathrooms in each wing and hair dryers are supplied. Staff were helpful though can get distracted. Late check in available. Place was pretty clean.

Review 90:For 1 person. I thought the TINY room was overpriced. I,ve never met a more UNCOMFORTABLE bed anywhere in the world

Review 91:The location and outdoor areas, including the bar, werte excellent. Love how close it is to Roma Street station. The views over Brisbane were also excellent

Review 92:Cleanliness- someone vomited in the sink in the bathroom overnight and it took until the next evening to get it cleared up. I opted for a private room (there are no lockers) but twice during my 2 night stay did a member of staff (presumably!) walk into my room - once as I was about to get changed and once at 12:30am!! Not so private and secure... Security: No lockers. Wifi very slow and difficult to connect, but it is free so can't really complain!

Review 93:Good location, 5min walk from Brisbane transit centre. Free Wifi. Reasonable price. Nice view from balcony. Sure the pool would have been nice if the weather had been!

Review 94:We booked our room here about four months in advance and had just one request, to have a double bed. I called up a week before to check that our room had a double bed and was told we definitely would. We were also told that parking was first come first serve, but assured that it shouldn't be a problem. We arrived to find no available car parks and to see that our double room was a bunk, two single beds in what seemed to be a linen closet (2x2 metres for $75 a night). The air conditioner was set to absolutely freezing with no way to change the temperature and as it was summer did not plan to bring PJ's. There was a window and at night time a very bright light shone through with no blackout curtain which made the room very bright and hard to sleep in the very uncomfortable beds. Price was exuberant compared to other backpackers we have stayed at. My family owns a backpackers with 200 beds and will be putting a notice up to avoid this place. Hangout area was pretty cool however and a handy location.

Review 95:Not much at all. Only the location and common area.

Review 96:I stayied for three days. first day I booked before got there,so I paid by visa card $25.20<its for 6 female room> then next day I paid by cash $ 28 . I asked why its different pay, the worker said if I book first ,its DC 10% so I just paid.but the next day I booked then I visited reception again for pay ,but they was charge by visa $ 29 .it means plus $ 1 i wonder why I paid like this even I booked already .they didnt give right answer and I couldnt talk anymore.because I am asian girl and I didnt want to like crazy . but I can tell this if u use visa or master like credit card , they just charge more $ 1 .. it doesnt make sence and look like nobody doubt about that and asked why?I can see the owner makes more money like that way ,because the ppl are from oversea so nobody care about the rule.. I want to report this to police :) and the place has three buliding there are many ppl and if it is weekends,it will be there some crazy ppl..drunker and smoke weeds..and scremming..and dirty bathroom and bad smell in basement rooms..else....

Review 97:brisbane city backpackers is good location in city and its next central staion.and there has swimming pool and nice pub and good mood.I could met many young ppl who from many different countries.

Review 98:Check in took upwards of half an hour, longest I've ever had in any accommodation anywhere, and we were first in line. Bathroom facilities were shared (combined male/female) which made us uncomfortable, and doors were sticky and creaky. Signs around the place advertised three different closing times for reception, (7PM, 9PM and Midnight) which was confusing. Mattresses were foam and rather uncomfortable, only one pillow and no blankets provided for each bed unless you waited in the slooow line to ask reception for extras. Price was pretty steep for what we got, I've stayed in a far better and friendlier place in New Farm for less. I noticed several very pushy signs on other residents doors that informed them their rooms were getting cleaned the following day, and if they didn't move ALL their belongings onto the beds, they would be removed. Lastly, during the one day that we stayed in our room for most of the day, random staff members kept entering our room without warning - no knocking or anything, even though the room was locked. After noticing we were in there, they either left immediately or did something menial like change the rubbish bag, which was mostly empty to begin with - not good for privacy.

Review 99:Good location, close to a supermarket and great restaurant. Provided bar was really cheap and closed at 12 every night, so was easy to get some sleep when not planning on heading out. Had a great rooftop pool and noise levels were fairly decent for a backpackers. Air conditioning was very functional.

Review 100:The air conditioner was too strong At night . . So that we couldnt make it a good sleep. . And after checkout they double charged again. Whats going on?

Review 101:Its clean and Neat

Review 102:In my room I was freezing because of the centralized air conditioning, there were about 15 degrees, which was crazy compared to the 35 degrees of the outside. When the air conditioning is centralized a standard and acceptable temperature should be kept and for sure 15 degrees is too low Sleeping with 2 blankets and still being cold gave a bad taste to my holiday, especially considering I went to Brisbane looking for summer.

Review 103:The hostel has a lot of space and a beautiful terrace with pool and bar

Review 104:The guy in reception was kind of rude, he shouldn't work there if he can't deal with people. The girl in reception was way more friendly.

Review 105:The facilities, the pool, the pub, the views.

Review 106:Constant, blaring, loud music which makes normal conversation difficult. Hardly peaceful and relaxing. The wifi is inadequate. These days wifi is a necessity, not a luxury, especially as many people carry their own devices. At peak times, which is much of the time, there were too many users for fast internet speed. Small, inadequate routers just don't do it anymore. The hostel needs to invest in higher powered wifi. Ideally this would be available all over the property and not just in the computer room and immediate environ.

Review 107:Everything bar what's in the other box.

Review 108:The only issue was the fridge space, there wasn't enough. Everyone's bags were mashed in making it very difficult.

Review 109:Everything was perfect, staff, nightlife, facilities, I will definitely stay there again. Great hostel.

Review 110:Car park has only got about five parking places. The window of our room was on ground level and eating/bar-area on first floor, so people were looking straight into the room; we had to keep our curtains closed for privacy.

Review 111:Nice view from the rooftop terrace, as well as free internet. The hostel is walking distance from the citycenter which is very convenient.

Review 112:Thought it was kinda weird that they did room checks in the morning and opened the door while we were still in the room, even though we had been checked in for the next night as well. But other than that, everything was good (:

Review 113:Clean rooms, beautiful view of the city from rooftop bar (cheap drinks), friendly staff, bathrooms were very satisfactory despite being unisex

Review 114:The rooms. Poor facilities. No A/C for the summer and bad isolation for the winter time - I was freezing. Too much noise in the late hours. Even in the weekdays.

Review 115:Pure party. Nice bar arena outdoor facilities. Open minded staff.

Review 116:The wifi was slow as many people using it in the lounge at once. The bed was hard and uncomfortable. The kitchen was big but so busy it was daunting to use with so many others.

Review 117:The location near the supermarket and cinema and restaurants. The roof terrace and lookout tower.

Review 118:Our room was next to the entry door into all the rooms. So we heard it slam every several minutes, hence didn't get much sleep on the only night we stayed.

Review 119:Good location and great staff

Review 120:Very dissapointing, ensuite not cleaned and room stunk very strongly of bleach. No towels available not even a hand towel or paper towels to dry hands after toilet. Corridors smelt like stale alchol, pee and spew. Would not stay here again and would not recommend it either.

Review 121:Staff could not find my booking for a start. Then staff told me one thingon the phone regarding payment then told me something completelydifferent when we arrived. There was no parking available - 12 carspaces for 300+ people is not nearly sufficient. Although I made itperfectly clear upon booking, when we arrived (with my one year old andmy mum at 9pm) they asked if "she" was staying (my little one)& proceeded to inform me that they don't allow children to stay! They were nearly going to deny us the room that I booked because of it!!For $79 we still had to make one bed, share a both gender bathroomfacilities and strip our own beds when finished. It didn't have afriendly feel to it at all. When booking out the staff wouldn't letme hand the key back in 30 seconds prior to completely vacating theroom. And even though we were clearly seen to be juggling luggage up anddown steps etc with a baby there was absolutely no offer of help.

Review 122:The location of the backpackers.

Review 123:Never separate bathroom/ toilet for male and female. Do not have staircase for double decker bed. Need paid deposit to rent the tableware from reception. No really close to Roma Station.

Review 124:The kitchen is big and well equipted. The room is clean and the security is awesome, there are security camera everywhere in public area. There is a wifi room you can use wifi which is great. The staff is very nice and the view on the loof is good too.

Review 125:1.Rooms are with bunk beds, a little noisy by the road and rail;2.Free Wi-Fi only avaliable in dinning room, and over 15 persons, the connection would not be working; 3.The directions to Lone Pine was not very clear.

Review 126:Rooms are air conditioned. Location is ok. Opposite is Coles. View fromroof is ok.

Review 127:No WIFI in room. Only available in open area. Moreover, after 11pm, WIFI broke down and no one can fix it. Must wait until next day morning. Don't take double room with washing room. Basically, it's a room for 4 people and they just allow two. Hence, you will pay for 4 people price to get a double room. Not worth. Maybe just take double room without washing room. No facility in the room. Well, I cannot complain this, as it's a hostel for backpacker. I just want to remind you about this point.

Review 128:Close to supermarket. Just go across the street. Not very far from train station and city center. 7-10 mins walking to train station. 20-25 mins to city center. Easy check in, check out.

Review 129:Bar very noisy and cramped after ten when you are no longer allowed to sit outside. Bed cramped for those over 6 feet tall.

Review 130:It was great having a pool and bar onsite, liked the rooftop view.Bar has outdoor seating with a view.
