Reviews for Quinta Das Murtas
Review 1:- the dampness, the fact it was not heated; there were heaters plugged but they didn't work - tight stairs with heavy luggage-the parking is down from the hotel ;you can park for the time you take your luggage out but it is very inconvenient -I fell ill because of the cold and dampness. She charged 2 nights even if we stayed only one.The trip was ruined. -the breakfast compared to other hotels in the area was not to par.
Review 2:- I loved the conservatory room with painting on the walls, the Portuguese feeling -she offered us an apartment so we wouldn't have to bring our luggage up the tight stairs
Review 3:It was the 4 of us and we stayed in the one bedroom apartment no.6. It was rather small for 4 people and they simply added two single beds in the middle of the kitchen/living room. To be fair, the pictures are not accurate: the place is not as good as it looks in the photos. After the first shower, the bathroom kept smelling very badly (it was probably due to the drain) and it wasn't very pleasant. Breakfast could be improved.
Review 4:The place is an historical house, very nice (although it would need some refurbishment). Good location: close to the historical centre.
Review 5:Nothing
Review 6:Top spot, lovely house and surroundings. Pedro was really helpful. Lovely walk into Sintra via the park. We would definitely stay here again should we return to Sintra.
Review 7:The condition of the accommodation was on the poor side; mould in the bathroom and old fashion bed covers. The breakfast was served 08.30 onwards; by any hotel standards this is quite late and people like myself who leave before that time to catch a plane would miss breakfast.
Review 8:Fabulous location, receptionist/host (Pedro) very helpful.
Review 9:It would have been nice to have dinner option as it is a little restricted in the nearby little town.
Review 10:The staff was absolutely incredible, made us feel at home and gave us orientations on what we could do over the weekend. Extremely nice people!
Review 11:Quaint, quirky place with odd bits and pieces not working, or not there at all, no mirror in bathroom, no bulbs in bedside lights, but, given these minor irritations, very good value & kind.
Review 12:We stayed in a separate apartment cottage (rather than the main house). It had a damp feeling, and at night when it rained the sound of the rain on the roof was loud and disturbed our sleep. The bathroom was small and poorly ventilated.
Review 13:Friendly and helpful staff. The included breakfast was good, but not incredible.
Review 14:Longish walk into the town, but we knew that from our first visit.
Review 15:Everything about Quintas is delightful, from the individually decorated rooms, the good breakfast, the helpful staff to the squawking parrots in the morning. The place had charm, comfort and style. This was our second stay and we're hoping for a third.
Review 16:All the pitfalls are so minor that are not worth mentioning, but I will try to be objective: - the place is rather old, and it shows. But it is really clean and held in good condition. - the breakfast was tasty, everything included in it was good... but I was a bit disappointed by the lack of hot dishes, such as sausiges or omelette, there was nothing like that and the whole breakfast was tasty and nourishing, but a bit of 'snack' type. - I failed to make friends with the white parrot :( - the price for the stay seemed a bit expensive for us, but I beleive it is because of the economic situation in our country, not the price itself.
Review 17:Oh, magical Sintra, a pleasure to remember! And Quinta das Murtas added to that pleasure, of course. We liked practically everything about the place. It is a bit detached from the center - but that is even an advantage, since it was always quiet there and the crouds of tourists which wander in the center do not reach here. The place is really cosy, has beautiful territory and unique interior. We enjoyed the atmosphere a lot. The interior has a lot of small details and one can spend an hour just looking at all those small things! The room which we had was in the mansard, which was even more cute - rather small, but with everything needed for a stay. The room service was good - it was a pleasure to return to the place and see that everything is fresh and clean. I cannot help mentioning the hotel staff member, I believe her name is Adriana. She is awesome person and awesome employee. She helped us with the food once and really saved our life because we were starving, then she saved me from the white parrot; she was always so smiling, hospitable, helpful and kind. She is in the picture attached, and I am very sorry that we were short for money and could not leave big tips. But our great memories about Sintra are always connected with this young woman.
Review 18:A few of the staff were rather curt. There was an exceptional one, Pedro, always helpful and well informed. Awful towels and lighting in rooms.
Review 19:Gorgeous grounds. Very generous breakfast. Colorful birds in back.
Review 20:This is not the fault of the hotel owners but we got lost on the way on steep roads, filled with terrifying hair pin bends
Review 21:We received a warm and hospitable welcome and the accommodation was satisfactory and in a beautiful setting near Sintra. We were impressed to be offered a 3 course dinner with Sangria for 15 euros
Review 22:Awesome, friendly staff! They were very helpful with suggestions for things to do in Sintra. Our room was spacious and comfortable. Breakfast was delicious as well!
Review 23:We booked 'the apartment', but it was more a bungalow that was a little run down. Absolutely beautiful location though.
Review 24:Fantastic location and quirky venue with a great vibe
Review 25:Nothing bad, but not quite sure about the parrots and view from the breakfast room!! Rooms were rather tired. Couldn't quite work out what was going on in the garden area, especially by the pool. Looks like work in progress!
Review 26:Good we could stay with our dog. Location close to Sintra and the old castles etc.
Review 27:The flow of the water in the bathroom and in the toiltet should be improved. Location is good when walking to city center. When driving, you need to take a 5-10 minutes detour.
Review 28:Nice apartment in a green back yard. Nice Breakfast. WiFi was excellent in rooms. New Air-condition.
Review 29:The windows would benefit from fly screens and the shutters did not fit the windows properly so didn't keep out the light well (bright outside security lights were on outside the window overnight). Attention to detail with cleaning the bathroom aswell as outdoor jacuzzi area/pool would be beneficial. The jacuzzi had insects in it and you could feel a layer of dirt/grit when you sat in it. Clarify what room/apartment you are actually booking - the outdoor apartments a few metres from the pool area looked 'interesting'. Wifi didn't work in our room, but was fine in the communal area.
Review 30:The breakfast room was lovely and we were provided with a variety of fruits, juices, breads and a couple of cereals. The room (upstairs and in a building adjacent to the the main building) was spacious - a rectangle room with 2 singles, a small living/dining area and a kitchenette, then a seperate double bedroom and bathroom. The daughter of the owner was friendly and obliging with info. Walking distance to the old town (10mins) and Regaleira gardens/villa (20mins). Overall good value for money.
Review 31:Bed feels humid. It is located between Sintra and Sao Pedro (?), to go by feet to a restaurant is punishing because it's very hilly.
Review 32:Comfortable appartment and nice atmosphere at breakfast (with parrots!). View to the garden from the appartment was beautiful.
Review 33:The house could be wonderful. The staff are very helpful but it's time for the owners to change tired old beds, worn furniture and peeling paint. No air con and single glazed. Such a shame as it could be stunning. Very poor sound insulation between rooms and our room was full of kitchen smells from below. This is the first time we've ever made negative feedback but hope it helps other travellers make their decision
Review 34:Good location but totally unsuitable for children or people with walking difficulties due to number of steps. 40 steps to car park!
Review 35:Our room had really bad plumbing - after showering, the bathroom smelled really bad. However, the smell did not go into the room when the door was closed & the bathroom (&room) were kept really clean. So generally we did not find this a big issue.
Review 36:The location of the property was excellent - just out of the city center but within walking distance of everything. Train station was also a 10 minute walk away. The breakfast served each morning was excellent, the staff was very friendly. And the breakfast room had a view on a small garden with parrots!
Review 37:Unfortunately the apartment was damp and smelled very mouldy. There were 4 dehumidifiers in the room but made little difference. The furniture was falling apart too with sharp screws sticking out in places. The breakfast was disappointing as well. The coffee was bad and the tea was cold. Poor selection overall
Review 38:The house and grounds are beautiful, as is the whole town of Sintra. We were placed in a garden apartment near the pool.
Review 39:Spa pool wasn't working and when we asked the staff they were unhelpful. Also WIFI was very slow or non-existent
Review 40:Breakfast and room really good value for money.
Review 41:bedroom dated, smell in the room, untidy garden. This is very nice property but looks like there in no one to do little diy especially in the garden what could be amazing with little care and work put into it. Garden is very large with small swimming pool and jacuzzi but it is not very inviting. There were left broken old sun chairs left around, broken pieces of large tiles.
Review 42:location, breakfast, nice bathroom, receptionist ( man) during check in gave us a lot of informations, maps, told us the best ways to walk around the hotel which was very nice and helpful, very quick check out, good internet connections,
Review 43:Nothing to complain about. A purely enjoyable stay.
Review 44:Excellent boutique BandB in a very old manor house refurbished with ultra modern bath rooms and full electrical facilities. Extremely friendly and helpful staff. Dinner offered several times a week was a real treat and fine value.
Review 45:Nothing really.... if I was being very picky.... The pool was cold and the plumbing reflected the age of the property.. but I had to really think of something negative to say!
Review 46:Great friendly property. Excellent breakfast and dinner. Lovely place to base yourself for visiting sintra and surrounding areas
Review 47:Great location. Quaint and pretty B and B in a historical building. Very clean. Comfy beds. Pleasant and helpful staff. Only half hour from Lisbon airport.
Review 48:A little lazy cleaning, minor things. Breakfast was carb heavy.
Review 49:Beautiful rustic manor house. scenic gardens, awesome location just a short walk to town centre. The staff were incredibly accomodating.
Review 50:No tea making facilities or bar meant often being thirsty
Review 51:Not many British! But English used as the default language. Beautifully placed for walking the area
Review 52:No service, cannot order food or drinks. Awkward if with small kids as shops twenty mins walk away. Hard for little legs.
Review 53:Beautiful house, menagerie of fun animals
Review 54:Great breakfast, with a view on a group of parrots. Swimming pool and deck chairs in a nice and cosy park. Nice walk to the centre, so there was no need to move the car into the not very car-friendly streets of beautiful Sintra
Review 55:The hotel consists of the old building shown in the pictures and several kind of pavillions located in the garden. These pavillons are in a desastrous condition - ugly from out- and inside, they look like being built by people who have never built anything before - rooms are mold-infested and dirty - bathroom is dirty and moldy too - the garden is a complete mess: old things and rubbish are laying around, the lake has only 50% water of its capacity, so you only saw black pool liner and a rest of mud. - the hotel needs a renovation very urgent and a pest exterminator. - they charge you with the full amount of money before you get the room key - we should have had an idea why, but we never had thought about what we finally got.
Review 56:-
Review 57:None
Review 58:The establishment has a certain charm to it. Staff really helpful The only suggestion I would make is to have a kettle and cups in the room, but it was not a problemas we could request it from the kitchen
Review 59:Only 20 minute walk from the Moorish Castle and 30-40 mins walk to Pene Palace. Excellent facilities and in a traditional building. Also enjoyed watching the parrots over breakfast.
Review 60:The bathroom is good enough but it's not like in a 3 star hotel. It's acceptable.
Review 61:A very nice small hotel in an old, beautifull and historical building, souranded by nature, plants and trees. Walking distance to the historical centre. Good to sleep, have a breakfast and enjoy Sintra, but also good for 2-3 days stay . Clean and good for families with children and for adults traveling alone. Very nice and helpful stuff.
Review 62:The noice inside the room from people walking upstairs. The bad quality of the liquid shampoo and soap in the bathroom and the dirty zakuzzi..They just have to love their job, nothing more...
Review 63:Not all rooms are in the main building. The rooms by the pool are extremely hot and unpleasant.
Review 64:The swimming pool and the Jacuzzi are nice. The location is very good. Nice views. Nice public spaces.
Review 65:The room was given in the additional house with no wentilation system, therefore we felt uncomfortably in the night.
Review 66:We liked the perots in the garden and the breakfast.
Review 67:Beautiful house garden and pool. Staff couldn't have been more helpful to my coeliac condition. They cooked me special boiled eggs every morning on request. The pool and the garden and the ambience are especially lovely.
Review 68:We had a fantastic time here. It was a great location as your in between the two towns and a good spot to hike up to the castles. It was great coming back and lounging by the pool area and Pedro went out of his way to make us feel comfortable and relaxed. I would definitely recommend to stay here.
Review 69:We love staying somewhere for a length of time to really get a flavour of a place and Sintra, and the Quinta were worth getting to know. We spent a full day in each Palace, Castle, Quinta, Convent, Cascais etc and then enjoyed returning to the peace of the Quinta das Murtas at the end of a hard day's sightseeing and walking!! The 10 days flew by and were just blissful. The location between Sintra and Sao Pedro was perfect for us. You do need to be (or you will become!) fairly fit if you're going to walk much here. HIGHLY recommended.
Review 70:Breakfast could include more selections like scrambled eggs. Another complaint on some nighttime noise of an unknown animal running on the roof of the backyard roof.
Review 71:I liked most about the helpfulness of the staff and the scenery.
Review 72:Old place, partially falling apart but it fits Sintra which is in the same condition. Needs lots of work in garden to be acceptable.
Review 73:Superb breakfast and free parking
Review 74:someone scratched our brand new rented car that was parked in the yard of the hotel. the rental made us pay 900 $ for that.
Review 75:the location is great. parking with a big car is bit challenging. the staff is extra nice
Review 76:Not a dislike, more of a note of caution: The hotel is a bit of a hike from town, so need to be reasonable fit and able.
Review 77:Friendliness of staff and willingness to give information and assistance. Hotel animals (parrots and dog) were an absolute pleasure also.
Review 78:The bathroom was ecologically built and the plumbing was a bit smelly...
Review 79:The house is like out of a fairy tale, and truly full of charm. It fits perfectly with Sintra's overall atmosphere... The bedroom was huge and with all facilities you light want or need. The location is great, only a short walk from Sintra's main attraction. We have had a heart warming welcome and the staff was really helpful and gave us precious advises on where to go and what to see. The breakfast was very nice and complete, there's a free parking at the hotel and its garden is just amazing. There's nothing not to like they have a swimming pool and spa it's great. Bedrooms are also in cottages In the garden, this place has a little je ne sais quoi... Magic. We loved it and recommend it warmly.
Review 80:Very tight parking, difficult to maneuver. (I have 30 years experience with car driving).
Review 81:Friendly staff. Great location, short walk from the main attractions.
Review 82:Plumbing could use an upgrade - which is scheduled for Winter 2014.
Review 83:Great location a short walk into town. Dinner in house was excellent - a bonus. The parrot!
Review 84:Bathroom equipment was a little bit outdated... Hair dryer was unsafely connected to elecrtrical socket.
Review 85:Amazing, very beautiful place, excellent breakfasts, not far from train station, and, of course, lovely parrots :)
Review 86:We were in one of the rooms without any kitchen area, it would have been nice to have a minibar/fridge to keep some beer cold to drink in the garden.
Review 87:The room was comfortable, breakfast was lovely, the garden was beautiful with a great pool and jacuzzi, staff were so helpful and friendly and all this a short walk from the main town.
Review 88:The garden apartments.
Review 89:Great location, authentic and unusual property, quiet spot with lovely gardens, quirky. Excellent breakfast and super helpful staff.
Review 90:No taxis in Sintra after 8PM! The walk back up to the place is tough especially if you have been drinking! PS. Having written this maybe I should have rang the accommodation to see if they could have organised a taxi.
Review 91:If you like parrots, dogs, frogs, dragonflies, a pool, sun-loungers, hot-tub/jacuzzi, nature and an organic flavour then this is the place for you. This beautiful old house has chard and character. The grounds are well maintained while ensuring that a natural organic ethos is preserved. The place has a wonderful spiritual feeling surrounding it. Excellent continental breakfast and WiFi. The location is excellent.
Review 92:No shops nearby eg water or fruit Town of sintra can get v busy but this hotel perfect escape from crowds
Review 93:Pool Breakfast Views and tranquility Parrots
Review 94:No wifi in the rooms. That is kind of annoying in the 21st century. Though I have to say that the common area where they do have a good connection is quite nice, with armchairs, a sofa and a view of the yard.
Review 95:The place felt like a nice retreat in the countryside. The smell of old wood in the room made me think of my childhood days spent at my grandma's house in the country. The location was great - between two parts of the town. The staff was very friendly and helpful.
Review 96:Really nothing
Review 97:Ideally located not far (600m) from the historical centrum. A excellent reception to give you all informations you need for your stay at Sintra The whirlpool and the swimming pool ! A great breakfast
Review 98:The historical part of Sintra is VERY hilly, and would be difficult for anyone with a disability. The access to the boarding house is very narrow, the car park is down the hill behind the property, also down a narrow lane. From the main house it is accessed by a long stone footpath, which is very slippery when wet. There is no lift in the main house and the staircase is quite narrow, and there didn't appear to be a male member of staff to help with luggage.
Review 99:Our room was lovely, it was more a suite than a room. The bed was comfortable and there was plenty of storage space in the antique wardrobe. The bathroom was spacious and well equipped, with a heated towel rail, and constant hot water. Breakfast to die for and definitely not for those on a diet! The dining room overlooked the aviary and the parrots were entertaining. The small swimming pool and jacuzzi were an ideal place to relax after a day out.Best advice is to leave your car in the car park and use local transport!
Review 100:The rooms were damp and old. Staff were a little rude.Pool was nice but not warm enough to use in August. The exotic birds outside looked sad and woke us all up at 6.30am
Review 101:Breakfast was great
Review 102:Breakfast could vary. No eggs, no pastry or bread varieties are offered. Some rooms need modernising!
Review 103:Excellent location, a little outside the touristy Sintra. Pool and jacuzzi were great.
Review 104:Our booking had been cancelled due to confusion with reducing number of days stay from 4 to 3. However Tanya and Elena went out of their way to move some bookings and give us the same pleasant room for 3 days.
Review 105:Within walking distance of old village, many palaces and main sites, and nearby excellent restaurants. A delightful, welcoming and restful place to stay and yet still see all of sites of the Sintra gem.
Review 106:Beautiful place in fantastic town!
Review 107:The room was full with humidity and with a very bad smell.
Review 108:Nice welcome and very detail explanation about the points of interest in the city.
Review 109:The entrance to the parking area is very tight.
Review 110:Beautiful old mason with greenery outside. Very nice place. Good breakfast. Good staff.
Review 111:The Hotel is very relaxed and the staff very helpful. Pedro is a diamond. So very helpful, but in fairness, all of the staff were.
Review 112:The evening meal at the hotel was fantastic and the staff helpful and friendly
Review 113:Comfortable room and cute hotel.
Review 114:The room was spacious and it felt like staying with friends
Review 115:Good breakfast. Availability of parking space.
Review 116:Breakfast room overlooked a bird enclosure with a nice dog in it. Around 15 dog poos not at all pleasant to look at while having breakfrast.
Review 117:Everything was perfect
Review 118:THE FACILITIES COLD HAVE BEEEN MAINTAINED BETTER - DIDNT REALLY LIKE THE SCUMMY JACUZZI !
Review 119:LOVED THE OLD HOUSE AND ITS SPLENDID SURROUNDINGS
Review 120:No elevator and lots of stairs
Review 121:Beautiful garden Tasty breakfast Parrots!! Atmosphere
Review 122:our cabin needed a few minor repairs but was comfortable with a nice view
Review 123:The unique setting and lovely breakfast.
Review 124:Excellent location. Beautiful place, nice and quiet.
Review 125:Great Location ! The staff was helpful and nice. Good breakfast . Get the rooms on the lake and pool they are big and luxurious
Review 126:The manor is simply stunning The swimming pool AND Jacuzzi The garden with its parrots! Especially Pacha 10 out of 10!
Review 127:Situated far enough from the centre to avoid the hustle bustle of the tourists. Nice facilities even if the pond area was a little unfinished
Review 128:Smell in the bedroom
Review 129:Quietness of the hotel Old style of the building Swimming pool/jacuzzi Parking spot
