Reviews for Lake Tekapo Cottages
Review 1:Initially the front door was slightly difficult to lock but we figured it out eventually.
Review 2:It was a comfortable stay and all the facilities were great. The kitchenette was complete as we needed it to be, even having soy sauce! Beds, showers and toilets were all in good quality. Location was in walking distance to the church and the lake, which is a plus. In the future when the bridge across to the town is completed, it would be easier to access the town.
Review 3:we book two bedrooms cottage. Our kids room is ok, but our room really need new heater.
Review 4:location is quite near to The Good Shepherd Church. The owner is helpful.
Review 5:Rather tired and a bit shabby which would have been fine had we been paying much less. The bathroom was not so clean and the deck still was wet and sticky from the oil applied just minutes before we arrived.
Review 6:When we explained our problem with the oven our hosts came to help straight away. We were also pleased with the spa tickets when we were told the spa at the house didn't work.
Review 7:None
Review 8:The location, the view, the place and the host. The most luxury place that we ever have during the whole trip. Spacious, comfort. I LOVE the mountain view.
Review 9:The 2 bed cottage had only a tiny common area in the middle of the 2 bedrooms which was the kitchen. Just enough room for the table and the window was up high so you couldn't look out. Felt like you were in a box. It was blowing a gale outside so no where else to sit. Just thought it a bit odd.
Review 10:The location was fine and the rooms clean.
Review 11:The unit was not roomy. The table and chairs were out on the verandah as they could not fit in the unit - fine in summer, not so great in winter. This meant it was difficult to eat a meal in the unit unless you brought in the table.
Review 12:The unit was a little cabin tucked away from any noise. It was very close to the Church of the Good Shepherd and not too long a walk into the village. The bed was comfortable and the shower hot. A lovely view to the mountains and pleasant to sit outside in a balmy evening. The host was very informative.
Review 13:If you are here for the stars. This is a very good place to stay. It is within walking distance to church of good shephard. To avoid the swarms of tourists, you could walk along the beach which is also very nearby. You can see the milky way with your naked eye from the balcony. Just make sure to book on the nights with a NEW moon (a full moon makes it harder to see the milky way).
Review 14:Loved the quaintness and the peacefulness. The views were terrific and free bikes a HIT! The check in gentleman was awesome too with his recommendations!
Review 15:Plates and dishes had been put away full of water! Hot tub had been re-filled and wasn't warm enough to use (it had snowed and was freezing - would've been lovely). We were sent on our way from office without key to access the house which was some distance away. A quick phone call and the managers bought key over. House was nothing like picture on this website.
Review 16:We booked Tekapo Cottages thinking we were staying by the lake shore however this is only the office. Our house was up the hill and in a completely different area. Despite this it was lovely and warm with all the things we needed for a comfy stay.
Review 17:- The cooking utensils are not very clean. - The footpath to the apartment is not paved requiring much effort to move suitcases. - There has been communication problem between booking.com and the apartment on the price. Luckily the problem gets sorted finally after explanation.
Review 18:- The apartment is spacious and located close to Church of Good Shepard which is excellent for star glazing. - The landlord is nice to give us a free ride to the bus station
Review 19:Extremely disappointed with the ridiculously high price particularly when compared to other accommodation we have stayed in across the South Island. The bedrooms had no cupboards or draws for storage. There were dirty marks and dead bugs on the walls and ceilings. The painting hadn't been finished on the inside on the doors or outside. The toilet roll holder was coming out of the wall in one of the bathrooms. The view was of a garden in desperate need of attention looking out to a field with construction materials in it. When we approached the manager about the issues we had he said we could have got a better price directly but couldn't do anything and that I needed to discuss the issues with Booking.com.
Review 20:The free Wi-Fi was great as was the friendly staff.
Review 21:The weather wasn't great but can't blame the owners for that!!
Review 22:Good facilities. Bedroom, bathroom & sitting room were comfortable & roomy.
Review 23:well situated with a easy distence to town centre and the church. very nice friendly and helpful hosts and lovely cottages. wild harmony at Lake Tekapo.
Review 24:One of the gas hobs wasn't working and there was no oven.
Review 25:Lovely self-catered rooms. View across to the mountains. Surrounded by greenery, perfect for children. 5 minutes walk from Tekapo 'town centre' and also The Church of the Good Shepherd.
Review 26:Situated closed to the to the Lake Tekapo and Church of the Good Shepherd (5 min walking distance). The studio was spacious, comfy and clean. There was a living area with kitchen, sleeping area, bathroom and a spacious private terrace. The kitchen was well-equipped. There is free wifi and free parking spot available. We had a nice stay!
Review 27:We only stay one night at Lake Tekapo, Not enough time to enjoy the facilities provided.
Review 28:Very nice place to stay for big group. It has a outdoor Jacuzzi and BBQ Pit. Nice Kitchen and well equipped. Love it
Review 29:In general we found standards of hotels & restaurants around Tekapo quite poor compared to other NZ places we have been. No breakfast available more like a self contained "camping" cabin.
Review 30:Compared to lodges around it is similar standards. The lake is beautiful and the hotel is next to the church for some less crowded time for yourself. Definitely go to the observatory to take on the view.
Review 31:The small cottage is cute but not for an extended stay. Need more room for clothes and cases. Table rather than coffee table more useful.
Review 32:Quiet location, owner helpful.
Review 33:The cold tub faucet came out when turned on. It spayed cold water all the way to the ceiling. However, when we called, the owner came in immediately to stop the problem.
Review 34:Like the privacy of our own holiday home. The spa saved us money as there was no need to visit the hot springs which would have cost us $210 for our family of 6.
Review 35:The bed was not as comfortable or supportive as we would have liked, and we were hoping for a view across the lake, but the cottage was not oriented that way.
Review 36:The layout of the cottage was perfect for a couple, the shower was wonderful, hot and strong! It was a little 'home away from home', and had all the amenity you could possibly need.
Review 37:Loved the fact it was so close to the church - not for religious reasons, but so we could get some great photo's of it in the early morning (google the church - stunning backdrop!). Owner was very friendly and we couldn't fault any part of our stay (cottage was so well equipped). Plus the little dog was so cute!

Review 79:The bloody neighbours leaving lights on and so denying us the best night sky.
Review 80:The cottage concept is good. Each unit is unique and stand alone.
Review 81:nothing
Review 82:Quiet location close to the lake, easy walk to town, very helpful owner, beautiful night sky from the verandah
Review 83:Bathroom was a bit small, but overall a nice place to stay.
Review 84:The BED
Review 85:Colour oft the lake Stars at night
Review 86:Facilities are simple, room too small.
Review 87:Walking to the lake and the church.
Review 88:I didn't like the fact that I got a phone call the night after we checked out stating that they were waiting for us to arrive and we hadn't contacted them to say we would be late. This annoyed me as I had to use my own money to phone them back and explain that we had already stayed, paid and checked out and they were obviously mixed up with someone else! Other than that we had a lovely stay.
Review 89:I loved the location of the Cottages and the unit we had was very homely. The staff were happy to help us assemble the porta cot for our baby and the heating in the unit was excellent. Would definitely stay here again.
Review 90:The only rude, unpleasant New Zealander I met in 3 weeks of travel was the (male, not female) proprietor here. I would never go back.
Review 91:comfortable, convenient setting. Quiet. Clean.
Review 92:Nothing.
Review 93:The location was superb, the cottage had everything we could need for an overnight stay, staff very friendly & helpful, absolutely smashing place to stay.
Review 94:It's not so easy to find a place with free wifi access available at this price around the same area. Location is perfect for star gazing. Only a few minutes walk to the church and the lake. Staff was friendly. Well equipped cottage. Highly recommend to couple travelling for their honeymoon.
Review 95:the sofabed is broken so very uncomfortable for my husband, the price seem not competitive compare to other of my bookings
Review 96:very good location, just beside Lake Tekapo.
Review 97:These are cabins, so they can be a little difficult for someone with mobility issues to access.
Review 98:We enjoyed our stay. The owner was very helpful and even loaned us a flashlight to help us get around after dark.
Review 99:Place was not like it seemed in the pictures. Quite expensive for what you got.
Review 100:Reasonably central location walking distance to everything and nice and close to the lake. Good facilities
Review 101:Cooking smells in the room from previous guests.Difficult access to ourcottage though help was given with luggage when asked.Attitude atreception and on leaving could have been better.
Review 102:Quiet location within walking distance of local facilities.Nicemountain views.
Review 103:For the price of $320 a night it does not compare with anything we havestayed in here. It was shabby, furniture from op shop nothing was colourcoordinated, no lounge area, no view, old tv that had one channel. Rudenotes about being clean, badly spelt. In Mt Hutt we had a 3 bedroomhouse with views over the river and mountain superbly decorated for thesame price! Same in Akaroa and Kaikoura (half the price here!!) Nocomparison to anywhere else we stayed all over nz. We have told all theplaces we have stayed at since as well as the Info place in Geraldine.
Review 104:The owner was understanding and gave us our money back on the secondnights accommodation.
Review 105:Might be a bit less attractive for a longer or bad weather visit.
Review 106:The seclusion, sitting on the balcony in the sun with roses and flower garden round us, drinking tea and reading. A few minutes walk from the lake and village. Made one appreciate simple pleasures.
Review 107:Free wi fi dropped out a lot. But everything else was fine!
Review 108:It was close to everything we needed and still gave us privacy. Just ashort walk to the local shops as well as the Church of the Goodshepherd. The room was excellent and had good self catering facilitieswhen we needed them. Highly recommended.
Review 109:Nowhere to put stuff in bathroom, a bit cramped with no vanity top space.
Review 110:Lovely comfortable bed, clean and quiet location. Great shower. Friendly staff.
Review 111:A little distance from the main centre, but still walkable.
Review 112:A friendly host and a quiet location. A good bed providing a good night's rest. Free wifi.
Review 113:The service was poor, we have 3 adult stay in one room. He aid he willget bedding for us, actually, we didn't get anything. It was bloodycold. He gave a bottle of milk which already expired.
