Reviews for Baan Koh Mak
Review 1:We came in low season - was that our fault? Our trip almost turned intoa desaster... We were the only guests at baan koh mak, "staff"was only one man who picked us up at the pier and then told us that therestaurant, the beach bar, and everything else was closed due to lowseason (you cannot read or see that anywhere on booking.com or otherbooking websites!). The beach was dirty, the resort was also dirty inthe beginning. Our room was not really clean (dirt under the bed, on thewall, in the bathroom...). The whole atmosphere felt uncomfortable forus, as we felt not really welcome there. We changed our booking and left3 days earlier, spent our days relaxing, reading and swimming at a beachabout 500m northwest from baan koh mak. To sum it up - this place can beparadise, when the facilities are open and useable, the beach is cleanand the weather is good. But we definitly would not recommend goingthere in low season! You may be very disappointed.
Review 2:The island! Its beautiful, and in good weather conditions it must beparadise! Resort is located directly on the beach. Changing our bookingwas no problem.
Review 3:German host was terrible - rude, barely could be bothered to speak. The beach is not clean. The wifi worked rarely - and when we complained, we were told "The technician may come tomorrow". At one point, there was not even water in the room for a shower or toilet! When we asked, we were told, "Yes, it's a busy time. Maybe in 30 min." After 1 hour of waiting, when asked again, the response was, "I'm busy cooking. Too bad. Just wait". Unbelievable for a place costing 55 euro/night. The room was never cleaned for 5 days.
Review 4:Nothing. The island is amazing - but there are many places much nicer and friendly for about the same price.
Review 5:Poor food selection on menu. For ex. No normal egg and bacon breakfast. Bar Closed too early. Not possible to get one beer after 21 even they claimed it should ve open to 23. Had to go up to abother resturant to buy a couple of beers to enjoy at beach at night.
Review 6:Location. Beach. Price and value for money. In general the bungalows were very nice. Cheap an good rental of kayakk. nice facilities.
Review 7:The staff were a mixed bunch and didn't speak much English..which at times made communication a little awkward...I often got cool responses to questions and couldn't get my point across easy. The café was really bad too....very small portions and not great food...when you can walk out onto the road behind and get some great food for less. The room is basic and there is no fridge (they charge for ice - 30 baht - go to the shop outside - its 10 baht). Overpriced for what it is. Either go budget or spend a bit more on one the neighbouring places. Sandflies.....yup..lots of em..get that coconut oil on.
Review 8:The beach, the hammocks.
Review 9:The Massive spider that shocked me in the bathroom. Shower pressure could have been better, but you are on an lsland.
Review 10:Location to beach and bar. 5 mins by free shuttle to bungalow from pier. Very reasonable menu prices.
Review 11:no extras at all. very basic. not good value for the cost. beach front not well kept, compared to several other beach hotels nearby
Review 12:location on the beach. the lawn and garden area was welll kept. quiet.
Review 13:No sunbeds on the beach, just chairs. Food in the restaurant is less tasty than in any of the neighbor resorts, the restaurant os not cozy to have a romantic dinner as there are too many bright lights. No privacy - as all the bungalows are located close to each other and you can easily see what going on in the room through the glass walls, otherwise you need to keep curtains closed all the time. No mosquito net or special anti-mosquito chemicals in the room - almost impossible to sleep because of mosquito bites. But most importantly, the staff didn't say a word when we arrived about the local disaster - sand flies. They sell some sprays on the reception, but don't say you HAVE to use them. As the result we all were just covered but big and painful red dots on the skin, from head to legs. By the way, you may just use coco oil for protection.
Review 14:Free transfer from the pier to the resort and back; well done bungalows, though, too much concrete and glass for the beach resort. Clean water and the beach.
Review 15:No fridge in rooms, no replenishing or cleaning of rooms unless asked for.
Review 16:The resort is attractive, clean and beautiful on the beach. Great swimming location less wind than other parts. Reasonable in price and nearby shops. Western food made at the hotel is recommended! Free unlimited wifi. Easy kayaking to nearby islands. Beautiful room layout esp bungalow #1.
Review 17:Quite a lot of rubbish washed up and accumulating on surrounding beach areas. Although this is NOT the fault of this place as they keep their property spotless.
Review 18:Helpful, friendly staff. Peaceful and relaxed atmosphere. Fresh and clean setting.
Review 19:nice beach and cosy bungalows. Not a lot of people there (early November).
Review 20:Friendly staff, clean and pretty bungalows and set on the beach. I'd absolutely recommend it!
Review 21:Staff not interested. They were over worked and obviously poorly motivated
Review 22:Beach access and local area
Review 23:Beds a little bit hard.
Review 24:Beutiful resort on the best island ever. Very quiet after 21 pm Value for money.
Review 25:Nothing to complain about. You can't go wrong at this Place.
Review 26:Location, quality of bungalows, cleanliness
Review 27:No fridge and no watercooker in the room. This would make it perfect.
Review 28:One of the best resorts on the Island.
Review 29:Seaview area perfect everything
Review 30:I've stayed at Baan Koh Mak before, and now the bungalows has been renovated and are now top notch! They are really modern! The staff are very friendly and helpful. I really recommend Baan Koh Mak!
Review 31:Very modern and cozy bungalows, nice staff and great location just right to the beach! The food was also really good. And there are some minimarkets and many restaurants near to the resort. And you get a free transfer from and to the ferry!
Review 32:It is a bit expensive for what you get especially compared to some other nearby bungalows right on the beach which were 1/4 of the price. There seemed to be too many members of staff all of the time (which may account for the cost). Also not sure the bar on the beach is necessary.
Review 33:The setting was beautiful & having breakfast by the beach was lovely. The staff were great; really attentive & friendly. The room was good with very nice bathroom.
Review 34:Sea entry is covered with old corals and stones, so you have to be careful or use water shoes. Sand flies on the beach, but this is common on this island. Use repellent or coconut oil and you'll be ok :).
Review 35:Location is the best of the island, staff very kind and helpful. Beach bar with cocktails is awesome. I would definitely go back or recommend stay in this hotel. Really romantic place with no crowds...
Review 36:the profit-oriented policy e.g no daily complimentary bottle of water, surcharge of credit card for 5%.
Review 37:politeness and friendliness of staff and the location of the hotel.
Review 38:No sun beds at the beach. The rooms are pretty small and we missed some place to leave your belongings and a safty box. Room cleaning upon request.
Review 39:Clean, aircon bungalows, great views, central location. The beach is superb and so quiet hardly any people (just be a little careful about the sand flies). The staff are friendly, helpful, and able, and they made us feel very comfortable.
Review 40:Not possible to open the windows with a "lock" system. Windows open "big" or not at all. So possible intruders could come in if you ventilate your room when away (or when you are there)
Review 41:Nicely situated. Lovely beach. Very clean. Nice atmosphere.
Review 42:The beach and the water was very rocky so we had to walk some distance away to find a better beach, if we wanted the room cleaned, you had to leave the key but they never change sheets. One evening we found a very large spider in the bathroom but they came right away and took it away, had trouble sleeping that night :)
Review 43:The staff was very nice and helpful, BBQ that they had every night was super tasty and affordable. the rooms were nice and it was really nice to sit on the patio in the evening!
Review 44:Nothing. I loved no TV, adequate wifi for short uses, and not being bombarded by media. Thank you.
Review 45:We very much enjoyed our 4 day stay at Baan Ko Mak! The bungalows we elegantly simple, well maintained and tastefully arranged. The open air cafe, sitting spaces and bar invited an entrance onto a south facing beach, with stunning viewing for both the sunsets and sunrises. Baan Ko Mak's transformation to cafe on the beach complete with adjacent BBQ finishing with a nightly fire show, was a special experience here. The beach here is narrow, sheltered and good for swimming and relaxation. A great quiet get-away with high quality, friendly service and less developed distractions.
Review 46:Best staffs and clean room
Review 47:Sand fleas on the beach (everywhere on koh mak)
Review 48:Nice rooms - nice bath room - excellent cocktails - very nice staff
Review 49:Service was excellent and the beach was excellent.
Review 50:Our house has the most beautiful bathroom we have seen. Staff was very helpful. Location is very good.
Review 51:Four or five dogs straying at the beach
Review 52:Beach and water were great Friendly personnel
Review 53:a bit expensive, but maybe because high season and booking done only 4 weeks before
Review 54:Quiet, not a lot of traffic, bike tour on your own all around
Review 55:Sandflies.
Review 56:Nice, quiet beaches and quiet nightlife.
