Reviews for Hotel Chocolate

Review 1:Probably the long way up to get to the hotel. would be nice to get some help from the hotel staff

Review 2:this is a really nice hotel. staff are really friendly and the place is really clean and the best view for anyone who likes to see the colors of Guanajuato

Review 3:It's a steep climb to the hotel. It didn't bother me because I've been to Guanajuato many times, but I could see that being a challenge for some travelers.

Review 4:The location was perfect. The view was spectacular, and the staff was friendly and very helpful.

Review 5:The price was way high compared to others.

Review 6:The view was amazing. The service was excellent everyone was very accommodating. Im not sure if the sewer system from the city down below vents towards the top of the hill through the hotel but the smell was very strong in the morning. The bathrooms could use better cleaning like with some bleach. An extra blanket in the beds and better cable T.V. sirvice, include English channels or world news. It was hard to find several signs needed at the beginning of the stairs or street level.

Review 7:Bring ear plugs if you come on the weekend as the merry makers down in the town take a while to go to sleep. Not a problem if your young , that's under 60, and its you that's down in the town making a noise enjoying yourselves. Lucky you!!!!

Review 8:The view was worth the tariff and the 125 steps from the street up to our top floor room! Reminded us of Siena in Italy, only better. On the last night we were presented with hot chocolate drinks and a chocolate each while out on our terrace enjoying the view. The staff were sweet, one at the desk even spoke English, and even those that didn't did their best to be helpful. We had the best experience but suggest you come early in the week before the tourists on the weekend.

Review 9:There was a sewer gas smell in the bathroom on the second day. Also there were 115 steps to get from the street to our room.

Review 10:The room was comfortable and had a nice terrace outside the door where we had breakfast overlooking the city. The staff was very helpful and friendly.

Review 11:Stay there for the view, the room was good size and fun furniture, breakfast not huge, so order off the menu which is very reasonable. Views from all the rooms and easy access to the rooftop balcony to watch the sunsets. Staff very accommodating.

Review 12:The site stated that there was free parking on own terrain. What if failed to mention was that this own terrain was about half an hour driving away from the hotel. As the address of the parking lot was not listed on the site we also wasted an extra half hour going from the hotel to the parking lot. This was annoying. When we mentioned this to the crew, they did not seem to care much. Breakfast was really frugal.

Review 13:The room is clean, big and comfortable. The view was stunning

Review 14:The Hotel Chocolate is located slightly up the hill behind the Juarez Theatre. There are several bars, restaurants etc that party until at least 4am any day off week. The noise and booming flows right up the hill and into your room. I couldn't believe that no one had reported on the level of noise! The staff moved me further up the hill to the Chocolate Suites which was quiet one night (besides the barking dogs and roosters) but the next night someone must have been having a house party or karaoke night until the wee hours of the morning. If you want the view stay outside of the city. You can easily have a taxi take you up or take the funicular. Bothe are inexpensive options if you need a good nights sleep. The room had a safe but it is not secured to anything and it weighs 2 pounds... There is a restaurant that only serves breakfast. The free breakfast is cold dry toast, filter coffee and chopped mixed fruit. Overall it was a terrible experience that was only saved by the excellent staff, in particular the staff at the front desk.

Review 15:The panoramic view. The staff was very friendly and helpful.

Review 16:It was cold and the only heating was a small electric heater, which was not enough to sleep as warm as would have liked. Also: The free Parking is located at a different place, takes 10minutes to get there (plus 15min to wait for the chauffeur) and be driven back to the hotel...

Review 17:Location, views of the city, value for money, free wifi free breakfast, free parking

Review 18:The rooms are very cold, there is a small heater which couldn't heat the room. Extremely cold. The breakfast is very poor. You need to pay for more which is not fair. Better to say there is no breakfast included. Actually there is no parking, they take you to another one which is far away and then take you back to the hotel with a shuttle or taxi.

Review 19:The location is good if you don't count the stairs. The staff too.

Review 20:Signage at the bottom of the hill would be SO helpful (we fortunately found a helpful person who understood my poor Spanish). Maid didn't restock shampoo and other toiletries for our 2nd night. Bottled water for drinking wasn't sent to our room until 10pm. No chocolate in our room (apparently that had been a procedure for the folks who recommended this property)

Review 21:Fabulous view, balcony and comfortable bed, large room

Review 22:Lack of parking lot. The hotel is a little hard to get to, but it was not an inconvenience. That was part of the fun. My son and I had a wonderful time. Thank you.

Review 23:The whole experience was excellent. The room, the service, the food! The only inconvenience is that the hotel doesn't have a parking lot right there. However, that's not a big deal. The rest of the services is very very good. We were very happy to be there. The best view in town!!

Review 24:Bathroom windows need to be repaired. Locking mechanisms are broken.

Review 25:The rooms terrace allowed for a nice spot to take in the view and sounds of the city. The breakfast, which was included in the price was very good and the staff was excellent.

Review 26:In addition to the 16%IVA they charged another 18% for using the credit card which is outrageous, and means that the advertised price and what you pay are unrelated.

Review 27:Most room have outdoor terraces that allow you to sit out and take in the spectacular views. It was quaint.

Review 28:The hotel warns of the many steps up to the hotel, but we were still shocked! and the high altitude didn't make it any easier. Still the staff carried our luggage, thank God!, making it possible but not easy. Not recommended for seniors! But if you're young and healthy, go for it.

Review 29:Comfortable room, and great staff. Very clean and beautiful views. Very close to historical center. Breakfast was included and delicious.

Review 30:Dirty bathroom, no hot water, insecure room that couldn't be locked and led the maid to invade the room while we were sleeping. Poor and greasy breakfast. Unpolite staff that mocked on us when we asked for help. Not to mention the awful stairways. And it's expensive comparing to much better options in Guanajuato! We don't have a single good thing to tell about this lousy hotel. The worst hotel experience of a lifetime!

Review 31:Breakfast

Review 32:Location

Review 33:It was dirty smells bad Continental breakfast not so good

Review 34:The view

Review 35:no

Review 36:Very good view, 200m to center of city, nice balcony, extremely helpful staff, spacious room, not far to Pipla hill to look at whole town.

Review 37:Dead bugs at the bath, dirty bed clothes, cold room

Review 38:View, Staff (except the cleaning Lady)

Review 39:Too many steps

Review 40:wifi is poor, it's very cold at night and the sheet seems not clean

Review 41:location, location, the view is amazing, room is spacious

Review 42:The rooms were very cool and you have to climb a lot of stairs to get to your room.

Review 43:Beautiful view. The staff was amazing.

Review 44:Walking the stairs, a lot of them, with luggage, and the parking

Review 45:The view og the city

Review 46:The steep stair to climb to get to the hotel, will be very hard for people who does not move easly.

Review 47:The view!

Review 48:Has very helpful staff! Good breakfast Very nice View Cute rooms

Review 49:Free parking, but located far away from the hotel. We need to walk to the parking. For luggage, it's recommended to have light luggage as you need to carry it up with around 40-50 steps yourself before reaching the hotel reception (there, porter will help you).

Review 50:Excellent view from the room, with terrace or balcony! Centrally located with the major attractions. Good choices of breakfast. Good decoration inside room with free chocolate! Very large room!

Review 51:The only thing I would suggest, to try and place a sign at the bottom of the street/alley as it was a bit confusing trying to find the hotel.

Review 52:We truly enjoyed our stay. The staff was very attentive and the room had excellent views of the city.

Review 53:The staff doesn't speak english, the concierge service is not really efficient, although they try to help

Review 54:The view is stunning. The location is perfect, really close to the center

Review 55:sometimes it is tiring to climb up the stairs for older people. but as a younger person and in reasonably good health, it was ok.

Review 56:picturesque view of the place.

Review 57:Perhaps it would be good to have a better explanation of the breakfast options for the foreign visitor.

Review 58:The climb up the stairs was well worth while in exchange for the view from our room, that was also comfortable and tastely decorated.

Review 59:Small bathroom, plastic thing iso towel on floor so bathroom floor stayed wet and dirty. Onl 1 towel each. Room doesn't block noise and light (small curtains which do not cover all windows) so sleep quality is really bad. Steps to go up to hotel.

Review 60:View, breakfast

Review 61:Rooms were ok just definitely not the standard I would expect from a so called boutique hotel. The beds were not great, side light did not work, furniture felt cheap and bathrooms poky and in need of an update. Breakfast was also poor.

Review 62:Great location and friendly staff.

Review 63:The stairs where a killer.... you have to plan so that you don't do them to often. There for you are either planning on staying in the room or you go out and stay out until you want to do a 110 stairs to get back to your room. We where with people that had breathing problems so.....

Review 64:Everyone liked the view and the room was very comfortable and clean. It was in a good location, but it wasn't like you would just run back to the room if you forgot something.

Review 65:I have to agree with everyone else, the climb and stairs are a bit much. Exhausted after we got to our room. But the view was spectacular.

Review 66:The hotel was nice.

Review 67:The room's amenities, cleanliness and features were at best equal to a 2.5 star hotel in the U.S. The bathroom was old and the smell of sewege was very noticable from the drain hole in the shower. The beds were OK but the mattresses were on the low end, with lots of hard springs and not enough cushion. The safe was just sitting in the cabinet, not attached nor tied down to anything, so if someone wanted to, they could just take the entire safe without problem....in essense this made the safe useless.

Review 68:The staff was great! Very kind and attentive. We felt truly cared for. Breakfast was very tasty and generous, with good options for the included breakfast. The chocolates were delicious. The location was perfect. And although there were a whole bunch of steep narrow stairs, the workout was welcomed to help burn off the delicious treats in town.

Review 69:I had to climb over 130 steps from the street to my room. The parking was far away, and involved more climbing. To be fair, most hotels in the centre of Guanajato have the same problems.

Review 70:Fantastic place

Review 71:A couple of times the shower had a smell from the pipes. I am notcomplainting, I understand it is something that happens a lot in Mexico, but, I thought It would be good that I tell you. I loved everything

Review 72:The honesty, everythin was just like it looked on line

Review 73:There are 85 steps at 7000 feet to climb to get to your room, and stayed next to kitchen where woken up at 6 am each day

Review 74:The manager Carolina Vallejo Gomez was most helpful and professional

Review 75:free parking available on the other side of the city, 20 min downhill then uphill walk with all the luggage. Friendly staff but not helpful.

Review 76:great view of the city

Review 77:-Room was super chilly

Review 78:-Staff was very friendly! -Beautiful room with tiny pieces of chocolate everyday:) -AMAZING VIEW from room and the terrace next to it -Very close to the main square

Review 79:The location could not be any better, it's located only a few hundred yards from the city center. The view is spectacular. We felt the climb up the winding alleys contributed to its charm. The staff was friendly, helpful and spoke English. We would not hesitate recommending it to others...and the chocolate was delicious.

Review 80:I had to climb 133 steps to get to my room. This should be shared with people in advance. I understand there is little the hotel can do about this, but it just seemed unfair not to let a traveler know in advance.

Review 81:The city itself is fascinating. The hotel has a very pleasant staff. The room was large and comfortable with a truly wonderful view of the city from the balcony of my room. I liked the somewhat quirky décor.

Review 82:for persons with some problem to walk or climb stairs it is not very recomended. but the view is worth it

Review 83:the excellent attention of the staff. and the great view over guanajuato.

Review 84:Blankets were not in the bed. They were in the closet and they didn't smell nice. Bathroom window didn't close all the way and this made it very cold at night.

Review 85:Staff was VERY courteous and friendly. Breakfast was very homely and nice.

Review 86:If you're up in years and consider yourself in good shape that isn't enough. Getting up the stairs from the street is enough to give you a heart attack. I counted 60 steps. Factoring in the width of a high percentage of these steps added an additional 90 paces for a total of 160 steps. Once you got to the front desk there were an additional 30 steps.

Review 87:The rooms were nice and the staff was frirndly

Review 88:Booking.com didn't tell me they don't accept American Express somy reservation was originally cancelled.

Review 89:Karla was extremely helpful on finding a solution to a problem with myreservation. Hotel was clean and the location is perfect. Gustavo wasalso very helpful and friendly.

Review 90:loved, loved the service. the location requires walking upstairs, but that's the reason of the great views of the city. the staff is friendly, very helpful.

Review 91:The hotel was a bit difficult to find as there are no signs to the hotel and you have to choose the correct alley to go up to the hotel

Review 92:The staff ath Hotel Chocolate was really nice and always ready to offer a helping hand. I enjoyed my stay and would definitely come back.

Review 93:Leaky ceiling but the staff was very apologetic and accommodating. Thebeautiful view was offset by the roof of the first floor. Looked like agarbage dump. But, why look down when the view is breathtaking. Thishotel is not for those that can climb 30 yards of steps, straight up.Not difficult but if you knee or hip problems, probably not for you.

Review 94:The staff our room and the view. For the money no view that competesin the city.

Review 95:Staff and location was amazing!!!

Review 96:Too many stair to get to my room

Review 97:The view was excellent

Review 98:Subir muchas escaleras

Review 99:El personal fue muy amable todo el tiempo

Review 100:Bathroom

Review 101:Panoramic view Location Staff Room

Review 102:So many stairs! Be prepared. The service was good but feel like it could be better

Review 103:Loved the location. Loved the view.

Review 104:a bit too high

Review 105:the view from the room is excellent. and I really enjoyed the stay.

Review 106:The climb was steep, but the view from our terrace was beautiful!

Review 107:The total Mexican flavour to the hotel!

Review 108:So many steps up.

Review 109:The views and terraces.

Review 110:nothing to complain

Review 111:hotel stuffs are very very helpful the room is clean and exotic location nice, the view is awesome breakfast is good

Review 112:Nothing. Be prepared to climb stairs vertically.

Review 113:Location! Cleanliness! Staff - going above and beyond!

Review 114:We had a great time and enjoyed all that the hotel had to offer.

Review 115:It was very difficult to reach the hotel bacause there are a lot of stairs and not elevator

Review 116:The vew was excelent

Review 117:Very noisy at night. Not sound insulation to stop music from the bars down the hill. Average breakfast.

Review 118:The view from the room. Central location.

Review 119:Great people

Review 120:noise. You can hear any conversation from front desk to the dinning room.

Review 121:Ubication

Review 122:great staff, wonderful vista, clean, good breakfast, great price.

Review 123:nothing...

Review 124:The view of the hotel is fantastic...and the staff is very nice, trying their best to help us.
