Reviews for Tropicana Hotel Puerto Vallarta

Review 1:Aggressive front gate staff, yes I know its for security. Horribly hard Beds!!! Food was poor to average in onsite restaurant.

Review 2:nice pool and beach access

Review 3:The rooms are basic. Ours had no dresser to put your clothes. They offered us a table (not quite the same thing.) Also there is no wifi in the rooms, only the lobby.

Review 4:The view is really what this hotel offers first and foremost. The location for a gay traveler is great, since it's close to the gay beach.

Review 5:The fact that if one wasn't a guest they couldn't visit - I practically had to beg to let my other friends staying at other places in onto the grounds - didn't like that I couldn't have a non guest meet me for a drink at the hotel - if youre a non guest forget trying to meet up if you have a friend staying at the Tropicana Hotel -

Review 6:Location location location !! The beach front the two pools the Wait Staff and ALL STAFF -

Review 7:initially was given a poor room but they changed it upon request.

Review 8:the front desk and housekeeping and doormen/baggage handlers all very professional and interactive

Review 9:My family members couldn't visit, they were always stopped our entire 3 week stay, we had to always go over to their condos, there were 10 of us and none would stay here because of it No tissues or kleenex

Review 10:Location, two beach towels daily each, restaurant on site, Happy Hour 5-6pm, pools, shade on the ocean beach, padded pool chairs, internet, suite kitchen, daily fresh water supplied

Review 11:Nothing Bad at all!

Review 12:The location is perfect! The pool area and new pool bar is amazing! Great beach location! We love Enrique, Humberto, and Jesus (the waiters)! Looking forward to seeing you again in May 2016! Hello to Irma!

Review 13:One specific desk person seemed too moody... enuf said.

Review 14:the room was nice with a great view. hotel close to anything we wanted. pool nice, but busy Saturday and Sunday, otherwise quiet.

Review 15:The staff at check-in were incredibly rude - beyond belief, frankly. I'd prepaid and both women at the desk acted as if I was a clueless idiot. I attempted to pull up my confirmation of receipt and one just continued to literally - roll her eyes demanding pesos. Upon finally realizing I was being honest and indeed HAD prepaid? ... There was no apology. My travel companion and I both were astonished by how rudely we were treated and that colored our experience. There was simply terrible communication, not with language but in telling us what they were doing/what was happening. The safe didn't work nor the tele but TV wasn't desired. Was only worried they'd try to charge for that. Overall, great location for our needs, hot shower, decent comfort, air - but the rudest staff I've ever encountered on any travels.

Review 16:Location to the pier, which we needed in the early morning. Lovely ocean view with balcony.

Review 17:Got charged incorrectly and was told I now have a credit ! It took two days to get it corrected with me not accepting this unprofessional way of doing business .

Review 18:Location

Review 19:Pushy staff that grabbed your bags when you didn't want them to. Reception charged us a different amount to what booking. Com quoted by several hundred pounds. Swimming pool out of use. Rooms dirty. Treated like prisoner. Food in restaurant was unacceptable. Very very poor hotel and staff. Was told we would get a late book out being a genius Booker, however hotel refused even though they had plenty of rooms.

Review 20:Nothing at all.

Review 21:The staff was friendly, awesome location and the pool was so relaxing , booked all our excursions in the lobby, it was annoying to not get wifi in the room but it worked great in the pool area and lobby

Review 22:Day pass people. This beach area has been very laid back and not over-crowded long time. Now with the many day pass people is can get crowded and noisy. One gets a palapa, and 6-8 come and hang out, spreading towels and blankets where ever they want.

Review 23:Most of the staff is friendly and wants you to have a good time and a positive expierence. The location, the beach and palapas are really nice.

Review 24:Beds could have been more comfortable. Biggest challenge, no wi-fi in rooms, just in lobby, and it was Slowww

Review 25:Loved the employees/service. Cocktails were great. Awesome location.

Review 26:Beds are still hard but the extra blanket under the sheet worked well. Need coffee before 8 am.

Review 27:The renovations are just beautiful. For the price and location I'd never go anywhere else. The new bar area is fantastic and the staff is wonderful. You can't beat the short walk to everything the South Side has to offer.

Review 28:Poor WIFI only available in lobby. Weak and slow. Microwave would have been handy. Poor quality utensils and pots and pans.

Review 29:Location & view. Nice pools.

Review 30:Wifi is only in lobby and is flaky

Review 31:facilities are great. Not Luxery .. No fridge in room for example.. but better than decent. Lots of rooms with balconies facing the ocean Very reasonably and serviceable resteraunt

Review 32:WiFi inadequacy. Balcony is nice but spartan.

Review 33:Terrific rooms and suites. VERY poor WiFi. Had to go to lobby to use it. Why not provide it in the rooms?

Review 34:It took three tries to get our room. The suite we ordered was on the 4th floor without an elevator and no view. They corrected the situation by giving us a room on the 9th floor and brought in a small fridge, blender, coffee maker and toaster.

Review 35:Could walk to everything. Hotel is clean with a new palapa bar by the pool area.

Review 36:Have to always wear your wrist band to enter property. Very strict aboutreservations, you have to bring your printed confirmation. Period. Wi-Fionly in common area/lobby. Very basic accommodations. Ac unit inroom had 2 settings,on or off. That's it.

Review 37:Prefect location. Great pool! Clean and well maintained. Veryaffordable. Polite friendly staff. Good food.

Review 38:I kind of hate to call this a bad experience, but the staff in the restaurant can be a little cranky, but I believe it's because, in my opinion they are understaffed.

Review 39:Liked the location and the staff, especially Marcella, the day time security person, and the guys supplying the chairs for the pool and beach.

Review 40:The food and beverage department needs attention. Some of the wait staff are unfriendly and some just don't care. The menu is limited and the dining area is closed for dinner. If the Tropicana wants to continue to be a major hotel in P.V., the food and beverage issue should be addressed.

Review 41:The hotel is in a great location. The hotel staff are nice and accommodating (the hotel staff....food and beverage staff is another story). Our maid was incredible! She worked so hard to keep our room really clean! The hotel is older and showing it's age; still a grand place to stay.

Review 42:wi-fi only in the lobby and not always working. also didn't have drinkable water so they supplied water in the room from a large jug in the hall.

Review 43:great location. 5 minutes walk to the Malacon. Staff was great, everything was immaculate and it's on the beach.

Review 44:Our bathroom was terrible. The shower dower leaked badly and the shower head sprayed everywhere but on your body, Toilet over flowed twice. Wen we told the desk about it they said there was no problem and fixed our ceiling fan which we did not have an issue with.

Review 45:Location is excellent and Bar,pool area and beach area are very nice.Security was also good.

Review 46:i am a male mid sixties. it is to close for comfort to blue chair and others.

Review 47:nice beach and when you have a kitchen you dont have to depend on restaurants

Review 48:Hard, hard beds, no guest visitors policy, no wifi in rooms, no ice machines anywhere, 200 pesos to replace lost wristband

Review 49:Location-in Zona Romantica, walking distance to a multitude of shops and restaurants, extremely friendly staff, very clean, direct access to Los Muertos beach with food and beverage service, plenty of palapas and loungers, quiet in the evenings, nice pool area with a small waterfall, turtle pond

Review 50:Bed is hard. Kitchen is only partially equipped.

Review 51:Staff is helpful and friendly. Location is perfect to the rest of the beach and old town. This is our 2nd stay and we will be back.

Review 52:I requested a non-smoking room and got a room with ashtrays; smoke odour leeched into the room through the bathroom pipes; smoking occurred everywhere; WiFi was available in the lobby, many times WiFi was limited or no connection was achieved, plus people smoked all around you; the rooms were very basic and the mattress was rock hard

Review 53:WiFi only available in lobby and it was pretty weak most of the time. Needs some kind of coffee service for mornings.

Review 54:Lots of hot water, cleaning was very good, good quality towels. Bar and food service good. Nice beach towels and beach service. Best of all was the location.

Review 55:Junior suites (refrig, stove, utensils) need a lot of upgrading. Eg; TV, microwave, crockpot. Typical Mexican hard beds.

Review 56:Good location, close to downtown restaurants. If you want to vacation in downtown PV, this is the place. Mostly couples, gay and straight, from Canada and usa. If you want solitude, this is not the place. All junior suites have great ocean views.

Review 57:Uncomfortable bed, dated decorating, WiFi slow, very noisy street at night. Would have liked ice cube bucket with provided water in room. Staff at check in did not come over as knowledgeable.

Review 58:Beautiful lounging areas with cool breezes, beautiful ocean view, very good cleaning services, walking distance to restaurants and shops. Restaurant staff very friendly.

Review 59:There was music somewhere that was loud until late at night on several nights. The beds are hard. The wifi is only in the lounge area and people smoke in the lobby.

Review 60:We love the location, the people, and the sound of the ocean. Even though we are writing some dislikes, we will definitely stay there again.

Review 61:All guests required to wear identity bracelet for duration of stay. We can only assume this is for a good reason, and no one should have any doubts about how safe the property is!

Review 62:Bathroom very nicely laid out; good counter space around the sink

Review 63:The mattresses were a bit hard and Not having wifi in the room was disappointing. It's evident by the rooms that the property is older, but it had all the necessities. Just FYI rooms not equipped with alarm clock.

Review 64:The Ground floor where the lobby is, is beautiful. Restaurant breakfast buffet very good. Service around pool wonderful

Review 65:The wifi was available only in the lobby and took a long time to connect.

Review 66:Fantastic location on Los Muertos beach in romantica zone of Old town. The staff at the hotel were very friendly and nice.

Review 67:Requirement to wear wristband Wi-fi only in lobby, uncertain signal Hard bed Some grumpy, impatient staff

Review 68:Ocean view from room Large room (a junior suite) with kitchenette Nice pools Nice beach area Good location, walking distance to everything

Review 69:Beds are extremely hard.

Review 70:Size of room, very clean, well-run property, high security with no guests on property without ID, excellent staff, generous low-charge breakfast buffet

Review 71:The rate guaranteed by Booking.com is in USD , however, the rate charged by Tropicana is in Pesos with the Hotel's exchange rate of 12/1 vs. the official exchange rate of 14.85/1, thus, 23% higher than Booking "Guaranteed Rate" which guaranteed basically nothing.

Review 72:loacation and common areas were great. Rooms were good.

Review 73:there was construction going on right below our room, person at lobby not really predispose to help out but to charge more money if I wanted to relocate

Review 74:beach is located on front of hotel

Review 75:WiFi is only offered in the main lobby. It seems a hotel as large and with such history (one of the first hotels in PV) should have WiFi available in the rooms. The kitchenette in the Jr. Suite was well provided with dishes and utensils, coffee-maker and toaster, but it did not have a microwave.

Review 76:The Tropicana is near everything that is traditional Puerto Vallarta: on the beach, steps from the shops and restaurants of Olas Altas and the Romantic Zone, at the southern end of the beach sidewalk "Malecon." The staff are exceptionally friendly and eager to please----they treated us and each other like family. The kitchenette had a large refrigerator and regular-size stove, great for guests who want to save money and cook their own meals.

Review 77:Everything was great!

Review 78:The beach in front of Tropicana is excellent. The waiters work very hard to bring food and drinks to the guests relaxing on the beach. We have stayed at the hotel many times and always enjoy our stay. The staff go way out of their way to ensure everything is the best it can be for the guests. We love the feel of the place - the spaciousness and the cleanliness. The prices are also excellent for what you get.

Review 79:I thought I was being scammed to buy a second key - the clerk said tothink of it as a 'donation'. I didn't bother, so we had tojuggle one key. Turns out the other hotel we stayed at only offered onekey also - guess it was a cultural thing. Tons of vendors on the beach

Review 80:The view from the room was great (fifth floor sea view!). Most of thedesk clerks were good. Housekeeping was amazing! I liked the restaurant- stuck to the menu and avoided the buffet. On the beach, the drinkswere overflowing! Good thing, because the hotel bar was closed.

Review 81:As we were only staying at the Tropicana for one night (we had to wait until Saturday to check into our time share in Puerto Vallarta) we just needed a standard room. The bad part was that the ceiling fan in the room would only run on one speed which was on very, very fast. The other speed settings were not working. Also, there was a burnt electrial smell coming from the switch when the fan was on; therefore we could not use the fan in fear of staring a fire. Also, as the fan speed was so fast, we were afraid the fan would come off of the ceiling and fall on us as it was positioned over the bed. There were two windows in the room (our room was located in a downstairs hallway with no ventalation) but the one window we did not open for security reasons as it opened on the hallway - so no fresh air in the room. The room was very warm and stifling as the fan was too dangerous to use. We did not sleep very well. It was very noisy also. Apparently the pool pump motor was underneath the one window we had open and was very loud. It went on every 20 minutes all night long. As it was rather late when we arrived, we were too tired to request another room. Upon checking out the next day, we told the woman at the front desk about the dangerous fan, but she did not seem too concerned about it. We will not stay here again. Tip: If you request a standard room, check the ceiling fan to make sure it works correctly and that the pool pump is not outside of your window!

Review 82:The swimming pools were very nice. The staff was pleasant.

Review 83:Rock hard beds No kitchen cleaning supplies Rude lady in the office, no help at all Construction in pool area all day long No ice machines

Review 84:Great location and large kitchenette. Great view of the ocean if you look over the tattered rooftop. Front desk people great, Excellent entrance with super efficient doorman/valet

Review 85:Very hard beds.

Review 86:Doing construction to the outdoor bar area when I was there. Should be opened shortly. They had a second bar closer to the beach that was for ordering and leaving no hanging out, but great drinks at fair price. The 2 pools were nice. Location wAs great.

Review 87:-nothing- all good for those not needing fancy 5 star hotel

Review 88:-the best section of the beach -lots of beach palapas -nice pools although unheated -no loud music -best ocean view rooms for the money -clean and well run -great Old Town location close to many restaurants

Review 89:It took a long time to check in and to check out. There is a lot of lobby space but it is not well appointed, comfortable for useful. There was little or no shade around to pools so it was hard to spend much time there.

Review 90:Good location right on the beach in Old Vallarta. The two pools are quite nice.

Review 91:No air conditioning. Bar is closed for renovations. Lots of construction in area. I know things need to keep being built but as a traveller we shod be notified of this, I can listen to jack hammers, cement trucks etc at home.

Review 92:Ocean view

Review 93:The wifi in this hotel is terrible. The washrooms can use an update. Bed is a bit hard.

Review 94:Great value for your money. Best hotel in the Romantic Zone. A lot of good restaurants in this area. This hotel has the best area to sit at the beach. It's not over crowded like the rest of the hotels.

Review 95:I committed to a junior suite so I could have coffee and toast in the morning but they don't supply a jug? So had to use pot. They also don't supply you with a tea towel or washing liquid. Plugs were not the US ones but old style Mexican which was resolved by an adapter but felt like I was putting them out by asking. Last day i checked out waiting for a taxi to come by in an hour, rude woman on the beach wouldn't even let me sit in a deck chair so rushed over and told me I wasn't allowed even though the woman at reception said it was ok. Seems very in personable after I had just stayed there 5 nights!

Review 96:The view from the room The service at the pool Good location

Review 97:There is a new front desk clerk a young man who is extremely rude and not at all helpful. I wish I had gotten his name so I could report him. Its so unusual for the Tropicana to have someone like that on staff. Hopefully he will learn from Anna that the guests deserve good customer service or he moves on to somewhere else.

Review 98:Anna at Front Desk, Feliciano the Bell Man, Rosario the maid and Maricella the beach assistant are absolutely wonderful so helpful and friendly they are like family. The location is great on the beach and the hotel is very clean. The best spot on Playa de Los Muertos.

Review 99:When we arrived the man at the front had an attitude and kept wanting a copy of our confirmation. He wouldn't help me print this paper and was rude. All the other front desk staff were wonderful and sweet. I ignored him and all was good. Also there was construction but not too bad. Didn't like to have to ask for a coffee pot

Review 100:Room was clean, staff kind and friendly. Food adequate and near many good restaurants felt very safe and cared for. The pools were wonderful.

Review 101:Wished we could have had a fridge in our room.

Review 102:Love the location in the old town. So close to everything. The pools are wonderful. Our room was really nice.

Review 103:The property is a bit dated, but it is super clean so you can't complain.

Review 104:The beach located outside the hotel was great. The beach was clean and the waves were fun to play in. I also liked that the Malicon was within walking distance to the hotel. The staff was great! Super friendly and accommodating.

Review 105:There were bed bugs

Review 106:Problems at check in and old bathrooms!

Review 107:Location and very clean.

Review 108:the pools were dirty and full of screaming children . You have to wear wrist bands and sign your tv remote back in. It felt like a hospital.

Review 109:Personal muy despota con mal trato, no te brinda informacion, Not Friendly

Review 110:la ubicacion old town vallarta

Review 111:Wifi in the lobby areas only. It would be better to have wifi in the room.

Review 112:Great location, friendly staff.

Review 113:Need to clean big pool.

Review 114:Ana and Carlos at the Front Desk are great. Bell staff is helpful and friendly.

Review 115:Everything was good

Review 116:The beds are horribly uncomfortable. I scraped my shins on the bed frame daily.

Review 117:The location is optimum. Staff are very friendly.

Review 118:Big pool didn't look clean.

Review 119:Ana and Carlos the desk clerks were very efficient, helpful and very nice.

Review 120:Showers were disgusting. Rooms needed updatws

Review 121:Location was great

Review 122:It's ok

Review 123:Close to Ocean

Review 124:No wifi on the toom

Review 125:Front desk staff was very rude on check-in

Review 126:Weak wi-fi Many men homosexuals

Review 127:Temperature Many restaurants, stores and boutiques near by

Review 128:What's not to like? Place is great!

Review 129:Pleasing architecture, friendly, helpful staff.

Review 130:Nothing

Review 131:I liked all aspects of the area, hotel, staff and food.

Review 132:My room sucked. No balcony. No air conditioning.

Review 133:Not crazy about wearing the "bracelet" but I do understand why they're needed.

Review 134:Puerto Vallarta always is my perfect escape.

Review 135:Great location and lots of restaurants within walking distance.

Review 136:No wifi in rooms.

Review 137:The staff was so nice, always helpful; and the whole place was beautiful and immaculate.

Review 138:No WIFI in the room, had to walk down to the lobby

Review 139:Liked the short walk to the beach
