Reviews for Ao Pong Resort

Review 1:There is nothing I can say that I didn't like.

Review 2:Wonderful place, right at the beach. The owners are very helpful and friendly. They gave me a ride when I needed it. There is a lounge/restaurant (30 second walk) with wifi and they have lovely music. The view from the cabins is beautiful. The beach is rocky, but that's no problem when you wear shoes. Also great for snorkeling. You hear all kinds of birds/insects during the day and night and there are 3 lovely dogs. At night the island is totally dark, so bring enough light. Also, the people on the island are all very helpful. I've had lots of rides home (when it was dark) on scooters and trucks. I had a cabin with a fan. It was cool enough for me. Some new more luxury bungalows are being built. They looked almost finished.

Review 3:Lack of service,e.g.no pick up arranged for us and transfer back to port has to be paid by us (all the other places/resorts arranged and paid it for the customers). We felt overlooked and unwelcomed. The resort is very close to pier and so there is a boat traffic. The athmosphere of the place is gloomy compared to anarher places on the island.

Review 4:it was beautiful stay. Love the private pretty beach and the location, it was wonderful, the owner was just so nice :) she helped us with everything :)

Review 5:On the Ao Pong site they advertise with free pickup and dropoff between the ferry and Ao Pong Resort. That´s not true, we must pay our own taxi dropoff.

Review 6:Nice,clean bungelow with a nice view with a big balcony. A privat and quit beach.

Review 7:Minor gripes..WiFi only in reception area..some bungalows are a little dated..tricky to get into the water without stepping on rocks..creaky floorboards..try and get to the bathroom without stepping on one.

Review 8:Location on its own stretch of beach, hammocks, relaxedvibe, clear sea, friendly dogs, local wildlife, staff,"vintage" style bungalows, away from main tourist areas, close to koh mak seafood restaurant and local temple, convenient for catamaran ferry to mainland.

Review 9:Nice and hospitable hosts, good food, almost nobody around, good sleep at the sound of the see, good snorkeling. The rest of the island is easily reached by bike or bicycle. It is not white sand beach hotel, special shoes are very useful. The beach is full of life and shells, kids are never bored.

Review 10:The water was not as gorgeously turquoise as on the other side of the island.

Review 11:The location has a real homely feel, like having your own self built hut by a private tropical beach and coral reef, rather than in a holiday resort. A beautiful view from your own patio, nice restaurant on your doorstep, very handy for the pier and with an additional two good restaurants nearby. We walked or took taxis to other parts of the beautiful island and were quite happy to walk home along ‘our’ small dirt road at the end of each day. Remember to bring torches!

Review 12:There were bugs in the room - many ants in the bathroom.

Review 13:this is the best value resort I have ever seen. You should book here if you don't care about all the trappings. If you want wifi in your room and a mini fridge, look elsewhere. The beach was lovely and secluded but very rocky - water shoes would be a good idea. The owners are friendly and speak excellent English.

Review 14:This place is too far away from Koh Mak's beautiful, sandy beaches, you had to take taxi everyday. Wifi didn't work in bungalows, it only worked on reception/restaurant area. They didn't rent bycycles. If you are afraid of big bugs, this might not be your place to stay...

Review 15:Good breakfast and food. Friendly staff and nice dogs. Simple cottages on the hill, nothing fancy, but ok. Bed was big and comfortable. Hammocks on the beach. Great place to see the sunrise at 6 am!

Review 16:The owners and the staff are very kind and provide useful info about things to do in the island. Furthermore, we were very comfortable and felt like special guests.

Review 17:The beach is ok but not great

Review 18:The staff was really friendly and the place is really pretty.

Review 19:everything was amazing, if you want to rest in a quiet place this is the best choice!

Review 20:Ship wreck for snorkeling right on the beach Close to pier Very friendly owner

Review 21:WiFi wasn't working

Review 22:Staff, food and location

Review 23:The beach isn't soft sand so don't be disappointed if that's what you want.

Review 24:Li-am the lady who runs this beach resort is one of the friendliest and most helpful I have met in recent travels in Thailand. The hut was spacious, and the bathroom has sink and shower etc. I found the bed comfortable, and felt welcome at at home. The resort is literally a few hundred yards from the arrival pier, and given that I was ill that was a great plus. The resort has some lovely plants and flowers around it, and is very quiet, with a pebbly beach and lots of rockpools.

Review 25:bathroom smel bad no net in front of the windows beach sandy but to walk in you need flip flops because of the rocks

Review 26:cheap god food very nice owner nice private lonely beach close to the pier clean for this value of many it was perfeckt accomandation

Review 27:Some equipment is lack of maintenance Should install mosquito net on windows

Review 28:Great service Friendly and helpful staff Beach is not pure sand but I like it. Food taste is quite good. Very close to ferry pier (only one pier in Low season)

Review 29:I just have to say that the bed was awful. The matras was thin and the bed was sloping to the middle making you roll together in the heat... I'm not one to complain about a firm bed, but this was a little bit too much. When lying in the middle of the bed I was wondering if it would be more comfortable to sleep on the ground. We slept in other places with the same price range and much better beds. So I wouldn't say that you get what you pay for when it comes to this.

Review 30:The lady who runs the resort will always try to find an answer to your question. We found her amazing. She arranged ferries, hotel and taxi's and even borrowed us her own motor bike when all the bikes where rented out. The kitchen at the hotel is amazing and the prices are good. You will enjoy having your breakfast here. The beach is really nice and quite and you will defenitely find your peace and quite here. The bungalows are right at the beach on a hill giving you a spectacular view from your balcony.

Review 31:The beach was a bit too quiet for us, and shady during the day (thats why we moved), but the owners of Ao Pong did a great job to furnish it, swings and hammocks and a couple of chairs, really nice and really romantic!!

Review 32:I think the woman who runs Ao Pong was the nicest Thai I've ever met, always helpful and giving advice, and when we told her we had found something else (Ao Pong was only available for one more night when we needed three) she wanted to give us our money for the room back right away, with no charge-that has never happened, sorry to say, but usually people in Thailand rip you off where they can, for my experiences. She was really really nice!! I would stay there again and do highly recommend it!

Review 33:Wi-Fi is only on reception

Review 34:Peaceful and quiet place on beach, great prices, near to harbor and free transport (to the resort) from further harbor. Rooms are basic, but clean

Review 35:Bathroom facilities were too basic - my first experience of a bathroom with a shower and toilet but no washbasin. However we were told that this is about to be remedied

Review 36:Lovely, helpful staff, relaxed, friendly atmosphere. Excellent snorkelling on corals straight from the constantly swept beach.

Review 37:the bed was hard for me,wi-fi only works in bar/reception

Review 38:very friendly and helpful, food good and well priced, the place was kept spotless everwhere, only sorry that we could only stay for two nights as it was fully booked up,looking forward to returning next year

Review 39:It is a little far from the west beach that has all the resorts and a few bars. It gets dark early but we had torches and walked back both nights- it takes about 20-25 mins. We found it OK but I can understand some wouldnt enjoy the walk back. Theres a bar closer where you can watch the sunset but you would still need to walk 10-15 mins back to the resort. Nothing else to do at the resort at night except have a meal and relax on your balcony listening to the sea. There are nicer beaches elsewhere on the island but still this one isnt bad. There were no sandflies (although didnt see many on other beaches either).

Review 40:The location is perfect if you want to wake up to the sound of the waves. Really peaceful, hammocks on the beach to relax. Really friendly and helpful staff. Great food. Ao Nid pier really near. Motorbike rental available. You can walk to Ko Mak temple from here which is well worth a visit. There is a sunet viewpoint 10-15 mins walk away. Really relaxing place.

Review 41:The room was basic for the price the mattress was a bit old and uncomfortable

Review 42:Location and small place very quiet and peacefull ideal for people in love with the beauty of nature and isolated untouched areas

Review 43:Insect screens made the room a little dark as there were no windows, only shutters otherwise.

Review 44:The rooms were simple but comfortable. The owner was very helpful and easy going, picked us up from the pier and helped us with whatever advice we needed. The beach was very private and being cleaned constantly, with hammocks by the sea.

Review 45:Bathroom full of ants, but well, when you are in the middle of the nature you can expect that. I think the price for the meals and drinks in the restaurant, are a little bit expensive. Advice, if u want to get into the sea, in the private beach, take shoes..

Review 46:Location, It has a private beach, really nice, full of palm trees and nature everywhere. Bungalows are okey, big enough for 2. Nice place, if you want to relax and do nothing, is perfect, I recomend this...

Review 47:The position is perfect!a little paradise where you can take relax infront of the ocean!the owners are a kindly people and so friendly. Thebungalow is big and clean with a terrace front sea!good food andcheaper prices!

Review 48:The bed was hard (however this is not uncommon in Thailand as Thaimatresses tend to be)

Review 49:The resort was wonderful, pure natural luxury! The rooms were simple yetclean and tidy. The view however and the service we received from KhunRian was outstanding. There are only 8 bungalows on the beach so it feltvery much like our own.I felt very much that whatever could be done to make our stay better would be done. Rian happily went out and bought extra things on request for us (diet coke and yogurt drinks) and would prepare whatever meals we wanted (however odd!) Thank you K Rian, we had a great time.

Review 50:The mattress is far too old, but anyway, I slept really good.

Review 51:I stayed here one week and I will surely come again! Small clean privat beach. Good snorkling spot. Here you can lie in one of the hammocks close to the water, snorkel or doing just nothing :-)

Review 52:Beach water not as clean as others.. No hammock on balcony

Review 53:Great staff and motorbike rental

Review 54:Right on the beach , peaceful . Lovely island , lovely people .

Review 55:Having to leave after only one week.

Review 56:Having a bungalow on a private beach on a beautiful small island is priceless. And the food was excellent too.

Review 57:Everything. Just everything. It's amaizing place to chill out and have your best calmest holiday.

Review 58:It's a really calm place to relax.
